Stack a DX7, a keytar, and enough rack-mount synths to power a small city, and you get one of the most iconic – and polarizing – jazz fusion albums of the '80s. This week, we dive into The Chick Corea Elektric Band (1986), the record that inspired a thousand copycats and split the jazz world. From the jaw-dropping virtuosity of “Got a Match?” to the neon-lit grooves of “Rumble,” we ask: does the tech overshadow the music? Is there too much production polish and not enough stank? Peak fusion or synthmania gone overboard? Join us as we unpack one of the best fusion bands ever assembled.
The first guest from Italy on "Let's Talk Synth... Seriously!!" is the master of Horror meets Comedy meets Synthwave, maestro Vincenzo Salvia! He's gathered millions of streams on Spotify and his track "Italian Gigolo" was featured on Season III of Netflix' record breaking series "Stranger Things"!! So, how did he do that? Learn about it in this episode, along with endless philosophizing about the beauty of Italian Home Organs, the origins of Italo Disco, Movie Soundtracks from Goblin and the Oliver Onions, and why Vincenzo Salvia has arrested a DX7 in his basement.
For this episode we're joined by the Brooklyn-based Andrew Smith, author of the bestselling Moondust, the "dotcom swindle" saga Totally Wired and the brand-new Devil in the Stack. We start by asking Andrew about the peripatetic childhood that took him from Greenwich Village to Hastings via San Francisco's summer of love. A riveting account of auditioning to replace Mick Jones in the Clash leads us to our guest's recollections of writing in the '80s and '90s for Melody Maker and The Face — and eventually becoming chief pop critic at London's Sunday Times. Jumping to Andrew's new book — with its subtitle A Coding Odyssey — we ask him about music's "digital revolution" in the mid-'80s, with particular attention to the ubiquity of Yamaha's DX7 keyboard. From there we revisit his 1995 interview with Björk – an artist who overtly embraced electronic sounds in that decade — and then listen to two audio clips from David Toop's absorbing encounter with the Icelandic maverick six years later. After a fascinating discussion about A.I. – its upsides and its threat not merely to musicians but to humanity at large — we return to the mid-'90s to celebrate the all-too-short life of the Notorious B.I.G., hip hop's "King of New York" in that all-too-violent decade. Mark provides quotes from recently-added library pieces about Captain Beefheart (1969), the Sex Pistols (1978) and oddly Francophobe goths Sisters of Mercy (1987), and Jasper wraps up the episode with his thoughts on articles about pop fanzines (2003) and writer, photographer and recent podcast guest Val Wilmer (2024). Many thanks to special guest Andrew Smith. Devil in the Stack: A Coding Odyssey is published by Grove Press and available now. Visit Andrew's website at andrewsmithauthor.com for more details. In May of 1983, the world of synthesizers and electronic music as we knew it would change forever with the launch of the Yamaha DX7. To celebrate 40 years since its launch, Rob Puricelli spoke to Dr John Chowning, the developer of FM synthesis, Dave Bristow and Gary Leuenberger, sound designers for the original DX7 and Manny Fernandez, who has worked on all Yamaha's FM projects from the Mk.II DX7 through to today's Montage M series.See the Show Notes for further details.Chapters00:00 - Introduction01:55 - First Experiences Of The DX712:49 - Did The DX7 Meet Expectations?16:57 - The Feedback Loop17:51 - Creating And Sharing Sounds22:47 - A Career From Creating Patches27:55 - Sound Design Using FM31:36 - Hearing Your Own Sounds34:26 - Working With Don Lewis44:26 - Demonstrating The DX757:00 - FM Synthesis 40 Years On01:07:12 - Formant Shaping And The Future Of FMDr John Chowning BiogBorn in Salem, New Jersey in 1934, John Chowning spent his school years in Wilmington, Delaware. Following military service and four years at Wittenberg University in Ohio, he studied composition in Paris with Nadia Boulanger. He received a doctorate in composition (DMA) from Stanford University in 1966, where he studied with Leland Smith. Chowning discovered the frequency modulation synthesis (FM) algorithm in 1967. This breakthrough in the synthesis of timbres allowed a very simple yet elegant way of creating and controlling time-varying spectra. In 1973 Stanford University licensed the FM synthesis patent to Yamaha in Japan, leading to the most successful synthesis engine in the history of electronic musical instruments. He taught computer sound synthesis and composition at Stanford University's Department of Music. In 1974, with John Grey, James (Andy) Moorer, Loren Rush and Leland Smith, he founded the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), which remains one of the leading centres for computer music and related research. Although he retired in 1996, he has remained in contact with CCRMA activities.Chowning was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1988 and awarded the Honorary Doctor of Music by Wittenberg University in 1990. The French Ministre de la Culture awarded him the Diplôme d'Officier dans l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres in 1995. He was given the Doctorat Honoris Causa in 2002 by the Université de la Méditerranée, by Queen's University in 2010, Hamburg University in 2016, and Laureate of the Giga-Hertz-Award in 2013.Dave Bristow BiogDave was born in London and worked as a professional keyboard player recording and touring internationally with a variety of artists including Polyphony, Slender Loris, June Tabor, Tallis and 2nd Vision. Active in synthesizer development, he played a central role in voicing the Yamaha DX7 synthesizer and is internationally recognized as one of the important contributors to the development and voicing of FM synthesis, co-authoring a textbook on the subject with Dr John Chowning. He spent three years at IRCAM in Paris, running a MIDI and synthesis studio working with contemporary music composers and artists, then moving to the United States in the 1990's to work for Emu Systems, Inc. on sampling and filter-based synthesizers. In 2002, he began working again with Yamaha developing ringtones and system alert sounds for the SMAF audio chip series used in cell phones and mobile devices. He has been an instructor at Shoreline Community College teaching electronic music production and synthesis for ten years, but still finds plenty of time for composing and playing piano with RedShift jazz quartet and developing his interest in computer arts.Gary Leuenberger BiogGary started in music at a young age and, in 1975, founded G. Leuenberger & Co. in San Francisco. It soon became one of the world's largest retailers of pianos, synthesizers and electronic keyboards. In 1980 he started working with Yamaha as part of their product development team. It was through this that he was recruited, along with the likes of Dave Bristow and Don Lewis, to create the factory presets for the DX7. Gary's most famous, or infamous, patch was the legendary E.Piano 1 which became equally one of the most popular and despised sounds ever! Nevertheless, his association with Yamaha continued until 2000, at which point Gary went back into education, gaining his Bachelors of Music and Masters in Classical Piano Performance from San Francisco State University in 2007.Since then, he has taught electronic music at SFSU and gives private tutoring to budding musicians of all ages. Manny Fernandez BiogDr. Manny Fernandez has been involved in synthesizer programming and development with many manufacturers for over 35 years. Initially self-taught prior to traditional university study of analogue synthesis, in the late 1970's - early 1980's the emerging digital synthesis techniques caught his attention with their expanded timbral possibilities. He acquired a DX7 in the fall of 1983 and using Dr. Chowning's original academic articles as a guide began exploring FM synthesis in depth. In 1987 he began his relationship with Yamaha, programming for a wide range of their synthesizers through the years to the current Montage M. Acknowledged as one of the world's foremost FM synthesists and having extensive experience with physical modelling synthesis as well, his programming approach is to create unique and dynamic timbres with interesting yet useful real-time controller implementations.Rob Puricelli BiogRob Puricelli is a Music Technologist and Instructional Designer who has a healthy obsession with classic synthesizers and their history. In conjunction with former Fairlight Studio Manager, Peter Wielk, he fixes and restores Fairlight CMI's so that they can enjoy prolonged and productive lives with new owners. He also writes reviews and articles for Sound On Sound, his website Failed Muso, and other music-related publications, as well as hosting a weekly livestream on YouTube for the Pro Synth Network and guesting on numerous music technology podcasts and shows. He also works alongside a number of manufacturers, demonstrating their products and lecturing at various educational and vocational establishments about music technology.www.failedmuso.comTwitter: @failedmusoInstagram: @failedmusoFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/failedmuso/

The 2023 Seattle International Film Festival was held on May 11-21. Ron was able to receive press credentials and had the opportunity to check out several short films and a few features. One of the films that was a stand-out was The Unusualist directed by Mike Simses and starring Matt Gourley. Mike not only directed the film, but was also the cinematographer, editor and composer of the score! Matt Gourely researched script ideas and improvised much of his dialogue. The Unusualist is a humorous and light-hearted take on the classic 1970s TV show In Search Of....with Leonard Nimoy as the host. We hope that it somehow finds a way to have a home at the SyFy Channel as a series!A huge thanks to the SIFF Press team (Amie, Dana, Madison, Victoria, Jesse and Jordan) for handling all the logistics and communications to setup this interview! They even booked a Press Suite at the Grand Hyatt Seattle for Mike and myself! Thank you! Post interview corrections from Mike Simses: The Unusualist monologues (incuding th one heard in this episode) were written, rather than improvised, by Mike Simses. The dialogue was among the post production elements written by Mike (e.g. the re-enactments in the film).Other corrections: It's the EMS Synthi, not OMS; and the DX7 came out in ‘83, not ‘84.The 2023 Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF)https://www.siff.net/festivalThe Unusualist (2023)https://www.imdb.com/title/tt27663106/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1https://www.siff.net/festival/the-unusualistMichael Simseshttps://www.imdb.com/name/nm3205976/?ref_=fn_al_nm_2https://www.instagram.com/mikesimses/Matt Gourleyhttps://www.mattgourley.comhttps://www.imdb.com/name/nm13713693/?ref_=tt_cl_i_4Moxie Pictureshttps://moxiepictures.com/In Search Of....(TV series 1977-1982)https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074007/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1During the interview Mike Simses references "Rinder and Lewis" who are the composers of the famous (or infamous!) 367 It is Finished, Good Friday It Is Finished, The last words Jesus spoke on Good Friday as he died on the cross to save Humanity. Greetings all my friends and today I am doing something a little bit different on the Dharmic Evolution Podcast I wanted to present a project that I worked on more than 5 years ago on Music Row in Nashville. The band is called “Mercy” and the project was the “I AM VICTORIOUS” Album. Its ultimate purpose is to become a theatrical musical experience, similar to West Side Story, or The Rocky Horror Picture Show, in that it's design is to include the audience as part of the presentation. However, at the time of putting the music together, we had no idea this was part of the plan. My writing partner Archbishop and Captain Chaplain Christine Mercy Johnson and I wrote and Produced this album with Kim Copeland as Music Producer on Music Row in the late Spring and Summer of 2016. I wanted to share 4 of the tracks with you today to give you a glimpse of the story and how important It is for us to remember what actually happened during those last days of the Lord that set up our Eternal spiritual possibilities for all time moving forward, I hope you will listen, and enjoy the story, And realize its importance on your life! AMEN The Lord wanted us to write a song entitled “Amen” that is all we got, just “Amen” I walked around In circles in my small humble studio in this tiny cottage I was renting at the time, it had a loft and fireplace it was perfect actually, I really lived in a small recording studio, on an 80 acre estate surrounded by nature. After being exasperated At the lack of direction, I turned on my DX7, plugged in a couple of guitars, and set up the metronome, and Just started tracking, the rest just came out, pretty much the same as you hear on the recording. The one Icing on the cake was that Christine had told me the Lord wanted her to do a voice over on top of the Recording, and it turns out The Lords Prayer fit into the space perfectly, we had not planned on this And I had no idea that was going to be part of the song, but it fit like a glove. The intro of this song starts with Christine reciting scripture from Revalations 22, its a moving and stirring Message, filled with dire warnings, but also with the promise of beautiful, revealing, and everlasting Light for us all, if only we dare to have the courage to claim it. As the scripture concludes, it moves Quietly into the song. The intro is real birds that I captured at the cottage, I woke up pre dawn one morning and put two hi quality Microphones out of my windows to capture the early morning song birds, then later that day I went for A hike in one of my favorite forests and brought with me a tiny hi quality recorder, my trusty Boss Digital Micro BR recorder. (I still use it today, its smaller than a peanut butter sandwich) I set it on a rock in the Middle of a stream to capture the real water sounds for the recording, and added them into the mix. I always thought of the piece as more of a prayer than a song, it is designed for you to put on in your Car, on the way to a stressful meeting, or uncomfortable situation, and is meant to help you find Peace through the prayer that you are communicating to the Father, Lord Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Amen~ Bless You This was a beautiful story about Jesus imparting to his disciples how to conduct themselves out in the World and how they can make an impact on society and care for their impoverished brothers and sisters. He spoke in parables not to be overly mysterious, however, he would alway try to trigger our creative minds using storytelling, and touching our imaginations in ways that would inspire thinking in new and prosperous way towards the good of humanity. This showcases what faith and hope really are when these men just left their previous life in a Moments notice. They intuitively knew that they were witnessing something so unusual and so Brilliant, and must have thought “how could we miss this”? I think the rolling piano riff in this song really glued the arrangement together. That is Nashvilles own Buddy Hyatt, with brother Jim Hyatt on Bass guitar. Shawn Fichter (from Tim McGraw's band) is on drums and percussion, James Mitchell on electric guitars, Glen Duncan on Acoustic Guitars and violin. Kim Copeland did a fabulous job producing along with Kelly Schoenfeld handling all Of the highly skilled and challenging engineering, as this was no easy feat to incorporate spoken Scripture with music. I'M AFRAID I'm afraid records the last night that the Lord Jesus has of earthy freedom before the soldiers come To take him away. How torture with the whipping was just brutal, they beat him and scourged him For hours on end before forcing him to carry his own heavy wooden cross up to Calvary where he Was to be crucified. The main beam of the cross was stretched across his shoulders and weighed 80-100 Lbs, he had To carry this more than 600 yards uphill, he was beaten so badly and lost so much blood and bodily fluids, it has been said he barely looked human. I think it was astonishing that he even survived the brutal beatings to get to the crucifixion. As Jesus was in the Garden of gethsemane praying to his father, he had asked his disciples to stay Awake and keep watch while he prayed to his Father. These last hours were so terrifying for him that he began sweating blood as he could see the horrible and brutal torture he would be suffering over the next 24 hours. He returned to them several times to find them all asleep, which must have been even more exasperating for him. He was so terrified that he asked his Father, “If it be possible please take this cup from my Hand, but I serve your command, although I'm Afraid” Everyone played so well on this track and the featured violin playing by Glen Duncan was really Sweet and special. Shawn also added so many elements of drama with the swelling symbol Effects as well. IT IS FINISHED Captures the last moments of Jesus speaking to his Father as he is about to die a brutal Painful physical human death. The hours that led up to this had Jesus in court with Pontious Pilate, the Roman Governor of the province of Judea. Pilate knew this was a very highly Charged political situation and even his wife was trying to influence him not to punish Jesus As she had dreams that he was indeed the messiah. The Jews hated the fact that Jesus was being called the Son of God, and wanted know part Of it, they were screaming “Crucify him” in the town square where Pilate was presenting them A choice to free one prisoner as is customary before passover, he asked “do you want me to Free Barabas, or Jesus”? We were having a bit of trouble with this one, as Christine suddenly said after tracking that it Was not sad enough, James Mitchell suggested to me to change up to a minor 6th and that Was exactly what it needed to give it that sad temperament in all the right places. I remember writing this on my Strat and using a capo up around fret 4 or 5, just really Tore into it without any though whatsoever. Its amazing how all the musicians picked up on the dynamics of the song just from that One very sparse and simple demo. Its another song completely run by the Holy Spirit, All we needed to do was hang on and enjoy the ride! After the vocal on this, I could not even come into the control room for a minute or two, It was almost an out of body experience. Be blessed, and Happy Good Friday, James~
Like the best part of an '80s pop song, this Sleep Song celebrates the Yamaha DX7 synthesizer, and answers the question: What would happen if a song like "Boys of Summer" was stretched like taffy and transformed into an extended soothing melody? The throughline of this piece stems from one sound, a chord reminiscent of pastel sunsets when you cycled until the dinner bell rang. From there, pads, bass, and those classic DX7 chimes will have you drifting off into nostalgic bliss.Original music from composer Eduardo Rivera.Meditative Story combines extraordinary human stories with meditation prompts embedded into the storylines — all surrounded by breathtaking music. Endless possibilities can lead to a horrible user experience, and when it comes to musical instruments in particular it can be hard to find the balance between functionality and how cumbersome is the interface is. What might have been a nightmare in synths like the DX7 can be avoided today, thanks to touch screens and large screen interfaces. In this episode, I'm discussing the topic with Loki Davison from @polyeffects. We cover a lot of ground, from his creative process, failed experiments, and a brief dive into convolutional reverb all the way to the screens of Beebo and Hector. This week, we're excited to present a synth-laden, 80s-inspired mix by special guest @simfossil: “The theme of this mix is a certain new age sound and flavor from 80s recordings. I traced this sound through the work of many Japanese artists (hence the Shibas on the cover) and I would say this became the backbone of the mix: music by the legendary Haruomi Hosono, Yuji Toriyama and many more. The vibe is unique and experimental, a new age-y, jazz-rock-y type of deal. I've been quite inspired for a long time by the character and creativity of this era; something about the guitar and instrumentation gives it that special touch. Personally, as a producer, I'm a big fan of Yamaha instruments, in particular the DX7, which I've come to associate with this time in music. Though Japanese artists are the central thread, I've made a kind of fusion of many different things that to me capture this special flavor.”

- Robin Riccitiello Episode : Konbini Radio Mix S05E14 Artist : Saint DX Release date : 30 septembre 2021 Radio producer : Robin Riccitiello

EAGLE SESSIONS #329 Eagle Sessions Number 329 is out now. This time with a fun guestmix by a good buddy of mine. Say ‘Hello' to DERALINEA! He himself describes his musical development as that of house music: from disco to R'n'B to Kraftwerk. At the age of 14, he stocked his vinyl collection with disco, soul and funk. Artists such as Gloria Gaynor or Earth, Wind & Fire were pioneers who determined his sound when he frst started playing in public at the age of 16. To this day, the musician is fascinated by the wide range between Detroit, Chicago House and Techno. On his musical journey, he pursues a clear goal: to always remain open to all electronic genres. DerAlinea stands for a cross-genre style mix of house, techno, deep and minimal techno. The focus, however, is on quality, which is not measured by genres but by thinking outside the box. "For me, the value of good electronic music lies in the fact that tracks dare to do something," the artist defnes it. "In my case, that also means moving back to the (analogue) times of the 303, 808, Moogs, Jupiter's and DX7's" After times of reinventing himself, all his concentration is now on what he loves: the music. "DerAlinea" was born, a name as a programme - after all, "Alinea" marks a paragraph, a new beginning. The essence: sustainable productions, releases and the booking business. As an artist and booker, DerAlinea is now part of the Swiss Nervoes family, resident and musical idea generator at Club Frau Holle in Hamburg. He never let himself be diverted from the path of making his own sound, remaining unpretentious and multilayered. DerAlinea wants to introduce people to music that is perhaps unknown but exciting. As a DJ, he sees himself as part of an event, drifting and musically engaging with what is moving at the moment. "I prefer to play long sets where I become one with the audience and follow the dynamics. I want people to go home happy at the end of a long night. "Chicago House, especially Frankie Knuckles, is his lasting inspiration. He is also inspired by the innovative production techniques of Alan Wilder, the unorthodox of Ricardo Villalobos, and artists who creatively bring music to the forefront. Emotionality and passion for inspired creation are omnipresent and also allow the thoroughbred musician to grow constantly. "Life is too short to do something without passion. Welcome to the Murder Booth! From his shallow grave, a fully organic Jon has been braving slugs and worms to bring you his best mycelium impression, with a penitential side-order of Kentucky-fried Huapango. Meanwhile, Mike's gone full Karate Kid in a world of Don LaFontaine's chewy syllables, while slapping himself with his own gauntlet and pinch-zooming a perspex shield. Initially self taught on an ARP Odyssey and Sequential Pro-One, he also studied academically on Buchla modular systems in the early 1980's. With that solid background in analog synthesis, he transitioned into digital synthesis with the release of the original DX7.Manny has been heavily involved in development & programming for Yamaha and is best known for his FM and Physical Modelling work. He says he was “really fortunate” to be with Yamaha through their glory years of developing new synthesis technologies in the DX7II, SY77/99, VL1 & VP1, EX5, AN1x and FS1R. More recently he has been working with the Reface DX and Montage, doing development work for the various Montage firmware & feature updates, including the new realtime FM ‘SmartMorph' AI control of multiple FM parameters.Way back in the 90's, he also did development and factory programming work for Kurzweil (K2000), Kawai (K1, K4, K5), Korg (Wavestation, O/1W), Alesis (Quadrasynth), Ensoniq (TS10), Peavey (DPM3) & E-MU (Proteus 2000). He was also known for his work with Sound Source Unlimited and their many sound libraries.Around 2005 he returned to programming to explore advanced FM techniques; for the last 15 years he's been hacking every nook and cranny of the AFM implementation within the SY99, exploring the interactions of operator phase, multiple patchable feedback loops and ‘zero frequency” waveshaping. He has developed methods for creating FM models of analog oscillator and filter behaviours along the way, as well as mimicking physical modelling and the abstract electronica of his college Buchla days.Manny has contributed many FM synthesis programming tutorials on YamahaSynth.com and YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/DrSynthSoundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/manny-fernandez-4856421 Credits Incidental music clips performed by Rob Puricelli using a Yamaha DX5. It's now always a late 1970's Sunday afternoon in the in the days of the contemporary Pest A mechanical timer prised from a discarded kitchen in a Bruxelles back street, provides an analogue rhythm around which we build today’s program. Camus provides some words, we tune in to some intercultural networked improvised music from The Ethernet Orchestra, sample a new livestream sound work from Matthew Olden, and all as we gently muse on our world spun upside down on an unfamiliar axis. 7-8PM UTC+01:00 resonancefm.com Ethernet Orchestra is an Internet-based musical ensemble that explores intercultural improvisation through musical performances in located venues and on the web. Founded by trumpeter Roger Mills, the ensemble was formed to address the underrepresentation of the diverse musical cultures in online music making. The group combines electronic and traditional instruments, including Mongolian moron khuur (horse fiddle) and throat singing, tabla, Persian tanbur, tar, balaban, and the Japanese shakuhachi, blended with Buchla synthesizer, DX7, Ableton, voice, guitar, trumpet, and sax. Oceans between Sound is the second album by Ethernet Orchestra and covers a 4 year period of the groups performances and online jam sessions. It is free to download with artwork and CDR disc prints from the Chilean net label Pueblo Nuevo https://pueblonuevo.cl/catalogo/oceans-between-sound/
#Frequencymodulation synthesis (or FM synthesis) is a form of sound synthesis whereby the frequency of a waveform is changed by modulating its frequency with a modulator. The frequency of an oscillator is altered "in accordance with the amplitude of a modulating signal". (Dodge & Jerse 1997, p. 115) FM synthesis can create both harmonic and inharmonic sounds. To synthesize harmonic sounds, the modulating signal must have a harmonic relationship to the original carrier signal. As the amount of frequency modulation increases, the sound grows progressively complex. Through the use of modulators with frequencies that are non-integer multiples of the carrier signal (i.e. inharmonic), inharmonic bell-like and percussive spectra can be created. #FMsynthesis using analog oscillators may result in pitch instability. However, FM synthesis can also be implemented digitally, which is more stable and became standard practice. Digital FM synthesis (implemented as phase modulation) was the basis of several musical instruments beginning as early as 1974. Yamaha built the first prototype digital synthesizer in 1974, based on FM synthesis,[1] before commercially releasing the Yamaha GS-1 in 1980.[2] The Synclavier I, manufactured by New England Digital Corporation beginning in 1978, included a digital FM synthesizer, using an FM synthesis algorithm licensed from Yamaha.[3] Yamaha's groundbreaking DX7 synthesizer, released in 1983, brought FM to the forefront of synthesis in the mid-1980s. FM synthesis had also become the usual setting for games and software until the mid-nineties. Through sound cards like the AdLib and Sound Blaster, IBM PCs popularized Yamaha chips like OPL2 and OPL3. OPNB was used as main basic sound generator board in SNK Neo Geo operated arcades (MVS) and home console (AES). The related OPN2 was used in the Fujitsu FM Towns Marty and Sega Genesis as one of its sound generator chips. Similarly, Sharp X68000 and MSX (Yamaha computer unit) also use #FM -based soundchip, OPM. An analog (or analogue) synthesizer is a synthesizer that uses analog circuits and analog signals to generate sound electronically. The earliest analog synthesizers in the 1920s and 1930s, such as the Trautonium, were built with a variety of vacuum-tube (thermionic valve) and electro-mechanical technologies. After the 1960s, analog synthesizers were built using operational amplifier (op-amp) integrated circuits, and used potentiometers (pots, or variable resistors) to adjust the sound parameters. Analog synthesizers also use low-pass filters and high-pass filters to modify the sound. While 1960s-era analog synthesizers such as the Moog used a number of independent electronic modules connected by patch cables, later analog synthesizers such as the Minimoog integrated them into single units, eliminating patch cords in favour of integrated signal routing systems. #synthesizer weki --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/vegansteven/message
