Ahora incorpora head up display. Once again, the top-rated electric cars are the Tesla Model 3 for the premium electric vehicle segment, and the Kia Niro EV for the mass market contenders. based on a 1,000-point scale, is measured by 10 factors, including range, access to charging stations, at-home charging and cost of ownership. Acing many of the categories is the Model 3, which scored 777 points. The Model Y comes in second place Moving into the mass-market side of things, the Kia Niro EV ranks highest with 744 points, The study doesn't just look at the cars individually. It takes the temperature of EV newbies and EV "veterans," those who've owned a battery-powered car for a longer period of time https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/tesla-model-3-kia-niro-ev-jd-power-ev-study/ First-time owners of electric vehicles were reluctant to switch back to gasoline-fueled cars even as concerns continued to loom about the availability of charging infrastructure, a report from JD Power showed on Thursday. The 2022 US Electric Vehicle Experience (EVX) ownership study showed that satisfaction among owners who are new to BEVs averaged 754 (on a 1,000-point scale), which is comparable to 766 among BEV veterans (those who have owned a BEV prior to their current one). https://gadgets.ndtv.com/transportation/news/electric-vehicle-ev-car-first-time-owner-traditional-gasoline-fuel-car-jd-power-2734490 PORSCHE TAYCAN DEMOLISHES KIA'S EV CHARGING RECORD A Porsche Taycan drove from Los Angeles to New York City in record time — at least in terms of charging the EV. On Friday, the German carmaker announced it broke the Guinness World Record for shortest charging time to drive across the U.S. in its $87,030 battery-powered car: 2 hours, 26 minutes, and 48 seconds. Last year, Kia set the record (and grabbed it from Tesla) with a 7 hour, 10 minute, and 1 second charging time while making the 2,834-mile journey in its soon-to-be-released EV6. Now the title belongs to the Taycan, Porsche's first EV, which used Electrify America's ultra-fast chargers across the U.S. on the cross-country trek. https://mashable.com/article/porsche-taycan-ev-charging-record STOREDOT CLAIMS EV BATTERY LIFE BREAKTHROUGH Fast battery charging  battery specialist StoreDot has unveiled technology that it claims will enable a dramatic extension the lifespan of electric vehicle (EV) batteries. The Israeli firm, whose core  XFC battery technology is said to provide a 50 per cent reduction in charging time, claims that this latest innovation will extend the lifespan of EV batteries thereby reducing their environmental impact and enabling drivers to maintain performance of their vehicles for many more years without compromising on range. It claims that the technology enables batteries to maintain a robust performance after 1000 cycles and 80% capacity, the point at which rival lithium-ion fast charging technologies start to rapidly deteriorate in performance.  Indeed, even after 1700 cycles, long after the accepted industry norm, StoreDot's batteries are said to maintain 70% of the original capacity. This potentially makes them effective  for second life usage in applications such as energy storage and grid load balancing. https://www.theengineer.co.uk/storedot-claims-ev-battery-life-breakthrough/ CONNECTICUT LAUNCHES 'COMPREHENSIVE' AND 'COMPLEX' CHARGING PROGRAM Connecticut utilities kicked off 2022 with the launch of a new electric vehicle (EV) program designed to spur the deployment of more than 60,000 charging ports by 2030, along with rates and demand response solutions to help manage the growing load. The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) approved the nine-year program in July, clearing the way for Eversource and United Illuminating (UI) to offer $500 off the cost of a networked residential charger along with incentives for fast charging, fleets, multifamily buildings and other EV market segments. Connecticut finished 2021 with 21,382 EVs registered in the state, according to the group's web site, representing an almost 55% year-over-year increase. The state's long-term transportation strategy calls for 500,000 EVs on the road by 2030. The new charging incentive program is targeting 50,000 residential installations by 2030, almost 5,000 "destination" chargers at locations like stores and shopping malls, more than 7,000 in workplaces and serving light-duty fleets, and 550 direct current fast chargers. Baseline incentives for DCFC are $150,000, rising to $250,000 in underserved communities. https://www.utilitydive.com/news/connecticut-launches-comprehensive-and-complex-charging-program-to-supp/617838/ NATIONAL MARKETING CAMPAIGN FOR HYUNDAI'S IONIQ 5 Hyundai is comparing its evolution to that of other human innovations in the new national marketing campaign for the all-electric IONIQ 5. The campaign's theme, "Your journey at its most evolved," comes to life in two new commercials starring Jason Bateman. The 60-second hero spot titled, "History of Evolution," finds Jason Bateman in different historical eras explaining how initial inventions got better over time. The ad showcases how the IONIQ 5 represents the advancement of the electric vehicle comparing it to the evolution of human language, navigation, phones, and televisions. "History of Evolution" will first air this Sunday during both of professional football's conference championship games. The second spot, "Campsite," is a 30-second ad that highlights IONIQ 5's vehicle-to-load function that can power equipment to make camping much more comfortable. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/national-marketing-campaign-for-hyundais-ioniq-5-illustrates-the-evolution-of-the-electric-vehicle-301470471.html OVER 10 PERCENT OF TESLA MODEL S EVS FAIL GERMANY'S STRICT INSPECTION AFTER 3 YEARS While Tesla has become one of the foremost players at the cutting edge of electric vehicle technologies, it has for a long time struggled to match traditional automakers in terms of industrial output and, crucially, quality. News from Germany brings the issue into clear focus, as Tesla's Model S has come out rather unfavorably versus its EV competition, as reported by Merkur.de. In Germany, rigorous automotive inspections are regularly carried out, first after the car has been in use for 3 years, and then every 2 years after that. The Smart Fortwo Electric Drive performed best of all, with only 3.5% showing any defects upon reporting for inspection. BMW's i3 was not far behind, clocking in with 4.7 percent having a notable defect. For comparison's sake, the average defect rate for all cars from 2-3 years old in Germany is 4.7 percent. However, other models weren't so lucky. 5.7% of Renault Zoes presented with defects in a below-average result. The worst by far, however, was the Tesla Model S. 10.7 percent of the model showed up for testing with a defect of some sort. https://www.thedrive.com/news/44068/over-10-percent-of-tesla-model-s-evs-fail-germanys-strict-inspection-after-3-years HENRIK FISKER TAKES ANOTHER SWING AT LUXURY CAR-BUILDING The Austrian manufacturer Magna Steyr is building the Ocean in front- and all-wheel-drive configurations. The base Ocean uses a 275-hp motor and offers a range of around 250 miles; all-wheel-drive Ultra and Extreme trims have two motors good for a combined 540 and 550 horsepower, respectively. Prices will start under $40,000. The Ocean is the closest to market, scheduled to begin deliveries in November. What's different with the Ocean? Let's say there are three fundamental things that I learned from the Karma. No, four. One, timing is everything. Number two, you've got to have enough money from the beginning to the end of the launch. I didn't want to really kick off this program until we had a billion dollars, which we raised last year. You can't build something start-stop. That kills you. So, number two, get all the money. Number three, you have to look at technology and assess the risk. Battery is the biggest risk in [electric] cars, so we spent a long time working closely on a deal with CATL [Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd., a lithium-ion battery manufacturer]. What's number four? The manufacturing of the vehicle—we need a solid manufacturing partner. https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a38870530/henrik-fisker-takes-another-swing-at-luxury-car-building/ LUCID AIR DREAM EDITIONS EMERGE ON EBAY: ALL PRICED OVER $200,000 The Lucid Air entered the market on October 30, 2021, but the initial Dream Edition of 520 cars (which equals the 520 miles/837 km of EPA range) have been fully booked for a long time. Hör henne utveckla i avsnittet. Hur Arla tog tag i kommunikationen hör du i avsnittet.

Show #760   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 26th April 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   VW FACTORY IN CHINA PRODUCING AN ESUV "In China, according to a number of media sources, VW has begun the production of prototypes presented last year as an electric SUV concept called ID. Roomzz. The seven-seater is apparently first set for launch on the Chinese market in 2021, presumably as VW ID.6." reports Electrive: "The plant in Anting is operated in cooperation with joint venture partner SAIC and is the first plant from the German carmaking giant in China that is entirely focussed on electric cars. According to information available, series production was scheduled to start in October 2020. It seems the model will initially be available only with four-wheel drive, the power ratings are 225 and 300 kW. As battery options are mentioned the 77 kWh (the largest option available in ID.3) and the maximum configuration with 111 kWh."   https://www.electrive.com/2020/04/27/vw-factory-in-china-producing-an-esuv/   NISSAN DEALERS TO LOAN VEHICLES TO NHS WORKERS FOR FREE DURING CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC "Nissan dealers will loan more than 100 free cars to NHS workers in need of mobility during the Coronavirus pandemic." sayas AM Online: "The vehicles are those typically used as demonstrators or courtesy cars.  The vehicles will include complimentary insurance and roadside assistance. Only fuel or charging costs will need to be covered by the recipient.  Nissan has previously announced that key workers, including NHS employees, driving Nissan vehicles can access roadside assistance services free of charge, regardless of vehicle age or warranty coverage, to help them stay mobile during the coronavirus lockdown."   https://www.am-online.com/news/manufacturer/2020/04/22/nissan-dealers-to-loan-vehicles-to-nhs-workers-for-free-during-coronavirus-pandemic   NORWAY AND THE A-HA MOMENT THAT MADE ELECTRIC CARS THE ANSWER "Last month, in an economy hit by the coronavirus crisis, fully electric cars accounted for just under 60% of Norway’s new car market, and plug-in hybrids just over 15% — meaning three in four of all new cars sold were either wholly or partly electric. It still has some way to go, but the country looks on course to meet a government target — set in 2016, with full cross-party parliamentary support — of phasing out the sale of all new fossil-fuel based cars and light commercial vehicles by 2025." according to WhoWhatWhy.org:   https://whowhatwhy.org/2020/04/22/norway-and-the-a-ha-moment-that-made-electric-cars-the-answer/   Audi e-tron reaches 10,000 units registered in Norway after just a little over one year, is now in the top 10 best selling EVs of all time (Nissan Leaf still ahead with over 60k). Then it's the eGolf, BMW i3, Model S, Kia Soul, Model 3, Model X and Renault Zoe.   QUESTION OF THE WEEK   LEE BROWN “I have to sit on the fence with this one. Our first EV is a 30kWh Leaf which was purchased used and for the small commutes the right prices compared to buying new. But we have an eNiro on order as our second EV which should arrive within the next few months. We had to go new for this as there’s not much second hand for that price range that’ll do almost 300 miles with a 7 year warranty”   JOHN FRUHWIRTH To answer this week's question, I have always bought used vehicles. I did the same with my Tesla. Being a cheapskate, I had always wanted to avoid the steep depreciation associated with buying a new vehicle. All I ever wanted from a vehicle was economy, reliability and functionality. That's why I had been driving mini vans. That was the case until I was soon to turn 70, felt my mortality and learned about Tesla. So, I decided that, at this time in my life, I would get the best car I could get for $100k (some cheapskate, eh?). I bought my dream car, a 2016 Red Tesla Model S P90D. By the time I got it, it was 2 years old and $65k cheaper than when it was new. It is now technologically obsolete but I don't care. It is everything I could want.   JOHN HARCOMBE IN GLASGOW NEW of course, as everyone loves that new smell. That is if you can afford new. Education is main thing with EV- Goggle- Tesla Incentives Shows all ev manufactures incentives of buying EV weather staff threw salary sacrifice and free charging, or company savings of total cost of ownership which the bean counters love.   RAJEEV NARAYAN I bought my two EVs new because, as you alluded to recently, we often buy cars with our hearts and not our heads. That being said the best value for money is probably a used lightly used EV . A lightly used Tesla or even a Chevy Bolt could be a very good deal. I might be cautious with an older Nissan Leaf given what I have heard about their air cooled batteries and degradation.   DAVID GUERRIERO I currently drive a 2012 Audi A5 convertible, bought used with low miles. LOVE IT!  Will they ever build a convertible EV?  I buy my cars lightly used. My next car will be an EV or high ev miles PHEV.  I can not afford to buy a brand new car/EV that I like. My EV will be used unless I hit the lottery!   UNDERSTAND THIS  Used car for sure. We always pay cash for cars and the price must not exceed 2% of our net worth. In 2 or 3 years we can buy new...for now used only. Even then we may not, as the value of a 3 to 5 years old car is so much better than new :)   MICHAEL ARBER I'm soon to retire so I am expecting to do less that 5,000 miles a year.  In which case there is no way I can justify a new electric car as, the cost saving will never cover the high cost over a ICE.  The most sensible would be a high mileage used recent model.  Perhaps a recent battery lease Zoe then buy the battery (as I understand you can now do).  Any thoughts?     QUESTION OF THE WEEK   What car have you driven in your lifetime you would love to be able to convert to EV?   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 235 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. Leasing.com: "Renault Captur E-Tech, uses the same 1.6-litre engine which is mated to a plug-in hybrid system with an increased 9.8kWH battery pack and 400v electrical system. It can run at 100% electric for 30 miles with a top speed of 85mph. Renault claims the Captur E-Tech can offer 188mpg and emits 34g/km of CO2. Unique driving modes such as ‘Sport’ allows both the petrol and electric engines to combine to take full advantage of available power. ‘E-Save’ on the other hand limits the use of the electric motor and can save at least 40 percent of battery power by drawing it from the combustion motor.   https://leasing.com/car-leasing-news/renault-clio-hybrid-and-captur-plug-in-hybrid-to-debut-at-brussels-motor-show/   SEAT "Cupra is hard at work developing a plug-in hybrid version of the next-generation Seat Leon set to premiere on January 28." according to CarScoops: "The new Seat Leon will be based on an updated version of the VW Group’s MQB platform, much like the new VW Golf and Skoda Octavia and sold in a number of petrol and diesel-powered guises. PAssat GTE - again unavailable due to high demand.     Other honourable mentions: Volvo XC90 T8 four-cylinder petrols. The Cayenne S E-Hybrid V6 petrol. Mitsubishi Outlander  for 30 miles of range. Hyundai IONIQ PHEV starts at £26,000 but 39 miles of range.  Mercedes-Benz C-Class C350 E Saloon and Estate have a 6.2kWh pack.     TONY BULLOCK I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have and provide some perspective as an owner of a Niro PHEV since August 2018 - one who fully intends to get a BEV as his next car. So far I've done just over 9,400 miles and the vast majority of that has been on battery. Why I chose the PHEV: I had a 63-plate Toyota diesel that I hated driving for environmental reasons. We needed something bigger for the family to take luggage, guitars, friends etc. around. There wasn't anything in my price range that was suitable. The eNiro would have fitted the bill for practical reasons, but it's still pricey. Toyota salesman tried to sell me a hybrid. One Kia salesman tried to sell me a Sportage diesel to clear stock. The same dealer subsequently let me drive their eNiro which he absolutely raved about! :-) I picked up the PHEV from the Midlands and drove it back to Kent. It only took about a week to get it but it was the very last in the UK, otherwise it was a three month wait. If a suitable BEV for my family's lifestyle had been available and affordable in July 2018 then I'd have definitely got one. I certainly don't regret getting the PHEV, but I wish I could have got the BEV.   NEW QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week…   Which car company would you like to see doing more to embrace electrification? Show #429.   Can You Help Me Fight The Fossils? Read More About Patreon here EVne.ws/patreon   Read today’s show notes on https://www.evnewsdaily.com   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Friday 29th March 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today, and picked out the best ones to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   Hello to two new patrons of the show. Welcome to CLIFF BATES and PRODUCER GEOFF GATES   KIA SOUL EV 2020 REVIEWS CNET says: ”As for the all-important driving range, the Soul EV is extremely competitive. The EPA officially rates the Soul EV at 243 miles of range, which bests the Chevrolet Bolt (238 miles), Kia Niro EV (239 miles) and Nissan Leaf Plus (226 miles). Only the Hyundai Kona Electric can go farther than the Soul, with its EPA-rated 258-mile range. Paddles on the steering wheel activate different levels of brake regeneration, with the maximum Level 3 offering for the sort of one-pedal EV driving characteristics that many people (myself included) love. That said, the Soul won't regeneratively brake to a complete stop like some other EVs, though if you press the Auto Hold button on the center console, you can let go of the brake when you're stationary."   Autocar were impressed by the tech: "Adaptive cruise control and lane following afford a useful amount of autonomy in heavy traffic, there’s an extensive suite of electronic safety systems, a head-up display and various features designed to maximise the battery pack. These include cooling and heating the 64kWh battery with liquid rather than air, while a button enables you to control heat or chill only the driver’s portion of the cabin if you’re one-up and need to eke. An in-built heat pump recovers waste heat from the coolant, while driving modes that include Eco and Eco Plus help. If you want one, your chief issue will be the wait – orders for the e-Niro stretch to 2020, and the Soul EV does not go on sale until late this year. But by that time, Kia’s plans to increase production of its EV powertrain may well have been realised."   Steve Fowler at AutoExpress: "We’re big fans of the Soul EV’s bigger brother, the eNiro, so it stands to reason that we’d love the similarly–powered new Soul, too. However, the Soul seems have a more youthful spirit and more character, in keeping with the car’s slightly smaller size and funkier design. And Kia hopes it will be cheaper than the eNiro. A lot can happen between now and when the first cars arrive at the end of the year, but Kia would like it if the first cars could come in at just under £30,000 including the current government EV incentive."   LIGHTNING INTRODUCES THE ALL-NEW $13K STRIKE "After two months of teasing, Lightning Motorcycles has finally lifted the veil off the all-new Strike, its long-range, low-price model." Says Sabrina at RideApart.com: "Lightning announced that the model will be available with three battery options. The entry-level “Strike Standard” receives a 10kWh battery with an estimated range of 70 miles on the highway and 100 miles in the city—this is the model the manufacturer has been announcing at the highly appealing price point of $12,998. The “Strike Mid-Range” is powered by a 15 kWh battery able to power the vehicle on 105 highway miles and 150 city miles. This version of the Strike has been priced at $16,998. Last but not least is the long-range “Strike Carbon Edition” which 20 kWh battery allows the bike to travel up to the much-advertised 200 miles in the city—this version is offered at $19,998. It isn’t the under-$13k price Lightning has been teasing for two months, but it is still a lot more affordable than a number of electric motorcycles currently on the market.Lightning is expected to start rolling the first Strikes out of production in July 2019 in the United States, starting with the top of the line Strike Carbon Edition. The company will announce its plan for international expansion later this year."   https://www.rideapart.com/articles/315837/lightning-strike-electric-motorcycle-launch/   10,000 ELECTRIC CARS REGISTERED IN NORWAY THIS MONTH: HALF ARE TESLA "According to the latest registration data (as of the end of March 28, 2019), new all-electric car registrations in Norway already reached 10,000 for the month (probably including a three-digit number of imported used BEVs). The official results will be announced inthe first days of April, but it’s already certain that we are watching a groundbreaking record of records." Reports Mark Kane for InsideEVs.com: "The biggest splash in March was done by Tesla, which reportedly noted 5,000 registrations, including over 4,500 Tesla Model 3. It was just 4,000 recently! With many new compelling plug-in models on the horizon, Norway could be just a year or two from almost entirely switching to electric cars."   https://insideevs.com/10000-bev-registered-norway-half-tesla/   PROGRESSIVE BRAKES ADDED TO MODEL 3 New release notes for Model 3 in Europe: "If you are driving over 50 km/h and brake forcefully, the brake lights will now flash quickly to warn other drivers that your car is rapidly slowing down,” reads the description for Tesla’s Dynamic Brake Lights feature. In addition to flashing the tail lights in situations that call for unexpected heavy braking, the vehicle will also flash its hazard lights. If your car stops completely, the hazard warning lights will flash until you press the accelerator or manually press the hazard warning lights button to turn them off."   PORSCHE TAYCAN ENTERS FINAL TESTING PHASE AHEAD OF SEPTEMBER REVEAL Simon at Teslarati has the lowdown on the final testing stages of the Porsche Taycan: "Porsche engineers are currently taking advantage of the summer in the Southern Hemisphere to test the Taycan’s driving dynamics in warm temperatures. At the same time, teams from the company are also testing the vehicle in Scandinavia, just a few miles away from the Arctic Circle, to evaluate the electric car’s performance in frigid temperatures. Porsche notes that the Taycan’s testing spans 30 countries, in temperatures that range from -35 to 50 degree Celcius (-31F to 122F). Porsche initially plans to start the Taycan’s production at 20,000 units per year, though positive reception from reservation holders have encouraged the company to raise its estimates for the all-electric car’s manufacturing. "Cannis confirmed that Ford’s crossover EV will have at least 300 miles of range in E.P.A. testing, but he declined to commit to target numbers for horsepower or acceleration. Cannis said that “most interest from consumers [for EVs] is in performance vehicles.” When asked how Ford is striking the balance between power and driving range, he conveniently replied, “We will not sacrifice either. The company will continue to include hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and pure EV in its electrification portfolio. For regions and specific customers not wanting to go “cold turkey” (as he put it) on combustion, hybrids with and without a plug will serve their needs. Talks with Volkswagen about sharing EV platforms and tech are focused on filling in gaps in overseas markets. “We’re looking at efficiencies around the world so we can get more scale,” he said. Cannis mentioned the impact of local incentives on EV adoption.”   https://insideevs.com/interview-ford-chief-electrification/   NISSAN COMPLETES SALE OF BATTERY BUSINESS TO ENVISION GROUP Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has completed the previously announced sale of its electric battery operations and production facilities to Envision Group, a world-leading digital energy company. Under the deal, Envision has completed the acquisition of Nissan subsidiary Automotive Energy Supply Corporation and battery manufacturing operations in Smyrna, Tennessee, owned by Nissan North America Inc. Long time supporter BARRY PENISTON has gone increased to EXECUTIVE PRODUCER level. New EXECUTIVE RODUCER ENRICO STEPHAN-SCHILOW.   NISSAN LEAF IS WORLD’S # 1 SELLING EV, BUT #2 MIGHT SURPRISE YOU "The Nissan LEAF is (and will remain for quite some time) the best-selling plug-in electric car with more than 360,000 units worldwide, according to data released by Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg." writes Mark Kane for InsideEVs.com: "The second best-selling model globally is Tesla Model S with more than 240,000, followed by another BEV – the BAIC EC-Series – with over 170,000 sales. The results are similar, although the numbers are slightly different, compared to EV Sales Blog report."   https://insideevs.com/nissan-leaf-is-worlds-1-selling-ev-but-2-might-surprise-you/   GEELY TO LAUNCH NEW EMGRAND GSE BEV WITH MORE RANGE Staying with InsideEVs: "The Emgrand GSe is an all-electric SUV that was launched by Chinese automaker Geely in June 2018. Compared with the outgoing Emgrand GSe, the combined range of the new model will be increased to 450km from 353km. Besides, the maximum power and peak torque of the new SUV’s electric motor will be upgraded to 130kW/270N·m from 120kW/250 N·m. The acceleration time from 0-100km/h is expected to be further shortened from the current 9.9 seconds."   https://insideevs.com/geely-new-emgrand-gse-bev-range/   AUDI BUILDING EUROPE’S LARGEST PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM AT ITS HUNGARY PLANT Together with E.ON, Audi is building a solar energy park on the roofs of the two logistics centers of its plant in Győr covering about 160,000 square meters. This will create Europe’s largest photovoltaic system installed on a building at the Audi Hungarian plant in Győr. It will have a peak output of 12 megawatts. Construction work will start in August 2019 and renewable energy generation will start at the beginning of next year.   https://electriccarsreport.com/2019/02/audi-building-europes-largest-photovoltaic-system-at-its-hungary-plant/   APPLE 'PROJECT TITAN' VEHICLE COULD TURN OUT TO BE AN ELECTRIC VAN "Speculation and rumors over the years has suggested Apple has worked on producing its own self-designed vehicle, sometimes referred to as an "Apple Car." So far, all of the rumors and reporting reference it being a car of some description, but there is the possibility it could be something else. according to Apple Insider: "According to multiple unnamed sources of Manager Magazin, prototypes of Apple's work have been seen painted in black and silver. While few details are provided by the publication about the vehicles, the main highlight is that vans are being tested, rather than cars. The report also claims Apple's engineers are now working on the interior of the vehicle.  The "Apple Car," thought by some to be arriving between 2023 and 2025 at the earliest, has undergone development at Apple in a variety of different ways under the name "Project Titan." Originally working on an entire vehicle, the project changed its focus towards self-driving vehicle systems, though there are some signs it is shifting back towards overall vehicular design."   https://appleinsider.com/articles/19/02/21/apple-project-titan-vehicle-could-turn-out-to-be-an-electric-van   DELIVERIES OF KIA E-NIRO DELAYED DUE TO SHORTAGES From the Industry news source Electrive: "Buyers of the Kia Niro EV in Europe must be patient as they are currently looking at delivery times of over a year. Thus states a letter to dealers in which Kia explains that “Europe-wide demand clearly exceeds expectations and current battery production capacity” writes Chris Randall: "The letter to dealers was made available to electrive. In the letter, Kia further states that the delay applies both to new orders of their electric car and to already concluded orders for the e-Niro. Accordingly, it is recommended for dealers to adjust the generally communicated delivery forecast from “6 months from order” to “at least 12 months from order”. According to the document, vehicles that were advertised for delivery in spring 2019 will not be available until significantly later."   https://www.electrive.com/2019/02/21/kia-niro-ev-customers-have-to-wait/   KIA TEASES NEW ELECTRIC CONCEPT AHEAD OF GENEVA MOTOR SHOW "Kia wants to show what the future of its electrified car range looks like with a new concept that will debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Though there are no details on the car so far, aside from this lone teaser image released Thursday, it sounds like the concept will have a more exciting design than Kia's current electric cars."   https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/kia-electric-concept-2019-geneva-motor-show/   MODEL 3 GET ACKNOWLEDGED BY US AUTO DEALERSHIP EXEC "The president of Sonic Automotive Inc., a prominent auto dealership in the United States, recently acknowledged Tesla’s disruption of the country’s car industry as a reason behind headwinds faced by the network in the past quarter." says Simon at Teslarati: "While answering inquiries during Sonic’s Q4 2018 earnings call, Jeff Dyke, the company’s president, noted that Tesla and the rise of the Model 3 played a role in the weakening sales of brands such as BMW, especially in areas such as California."   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-3-us-dealerships-disruption/   ANALYST DOUBTS MUSK "At least one auto industry analyst is skeptical about Tesla CEO Elon Musk's bold claim that the electric car maker will have all the features necessary for full autonomy by the end of the year." reports CNBC "In fact Musk may be misleading the public over how capable Tesla's cars are, said Karl Brauer, executive publisher at Cox Automotive."   https://www.cnbc.com/2019/02/20/industry-analyst-doesnt-buy-musk-claims-about-tesla-self-driving-tech.html   TESLA POWERWALLS ARE IN HIGH DEMAND "Only 12 percent of solar installers carry Tesla’s Powerwall, according to the latest findings in a report from EnergySage and the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners. " says GreenTEchMedia: "The report, a nationwide survey of U.S. solar installers, noted that one in three customers are now expressing interest in energy storage solutions for their home. Of that subset, installers reported that 56 percent of consumers ask for the Powerwall. A much smaller portion are actually getting the product, according to the survey’s results. For Tesla, the problem has largely been prioritizing its vehicle manufacturing, with a push to meet production targets on its Model 3."   https://www.greentechmedia.com/articles/read/tesla-powerwalls-but-installers-dont-have-them?utm_campaign=GTMsocial&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_content=1550780316#gs.t1c8vzCC     COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. They had previously said (Bjørn Nyland has confirmed):- "Norway is allocated 2000 Kia E-Nero's for delivery during 2019. But this may change?" They stopped the reservation program when it reached 6000. I think Nov.2018 and have refunded all deposits made ( 7,777 NOK)   I got a text from Kia Norway on 16.Jan.2019:-   It states they will deliver 356 Cars by 23 Feb.2019. So for me at 5605, well when then, 2020 if I'm lucky?   Translated to English:- "Delivery of the first e-Niro will soon start. The first customers on the reservation list have now signed a contract, and the delivery of these cars starts at the end of January / February, and beyond in February. We are pleased to announce that we have managed to get a good allocation of e-Niro at the beginning of the year. Here are the next shipments we have an overview of with arrival Drammen: (From arrival it takes from 1-3 weeks until the cars are out at the dealer, depending on where in the country they are sent) January 29, 83 cars arrive. On February 9, 24 cars arrive. On February 23, 249 cars arrive In these shipments there are cars with a total of 9 exterior colors and 2 interior colors. This differs from the colors we have initially set up for "First Edition". During January, we will contact the next customers on the list, 50-100 at a time, for car allocation. They choose a car and sign a contract with their dealer. If color originally selected is not on this delivery, one will be able to choose a different color, or wait for the next shipment."     AUDI TO UNVEIL NEW PLUG-IN HYBRIDS IN GENEVA Audi announced that at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March, the company will unveil new plug-in hybrid models. The plural form indicates that there will be at least two new PHEVs. Martin Sander, currently in charge of operations at the Marketing and Sales division of AUDI AG, said that the expansion into PHEVs will be substantial" reports Mark Kane for InsideEVs.com: "Audi BEV models: Audi e-tron (already in production, deliveries in early 2019), Audi e-tron Sportback (to debut in 2019), Audi e-tron GT concept (from late 2020), Audi A3-sized EV concept (to be unveiled soon), Audi SUV BEV based on MEB platform (from late 2020) (to be unveiled soon), 5 more SUVs"   https://insideevs.com/audi-new-plug-in-hybrids-geneva/   REPORT: AUDI E-TRON FACES BATTERY-RELATED DELAY IN EUROPE "Audi's e-tron SUV was scheduled to go on sale in Europe by now, but its rollout in Europe has been delayed to next month, according to a report today from Automotive News Europe. Back in October, Audi told the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag that it was working on "improvements in the interests of the buyer." Sources then told Bild that it had to do with battery software." according to Eric at Green Car Reports: "The newspaper had reported a bottleneck in battery supplies as battery supplier LG Chem is seeking a 10-percent price hike for the car's 95-kilowatt-hour battery. Citing sources close to Audi and/or its suppliers, it anticipated the software and battery pricing issues could delay the car for months. Audi spokesman Mark Dahnke said in an emailed statement that the launch schedule in the U.S. remains in the second quarter (of 2019) "as we have been targeting from the beginning."   https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1121399_audi-e-tron-faces-battery-related-delay-in-europe   HUBJECT AND GREENLOTS COLLABORATE TO BRING APP-FREE AND CARD-FREE CHARGING TO EV DRIVERS "Hubject is collaborating with Greenlots to deploy its ISO 15118 Plug&Charge technology (earlier post) in North America. Customers with new, Plug&Charge-enabled vehicles will no longer need to worry about using an app or card to pay for their charge."This achievement is the result of a partnership between Hubject and Greenlots, a US-based provider of EV charging and energy management software and solutions and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shell New Energies."   https://www.greencarcongress.com/2019/02/20190208-hubject.html   EVGO SWITCHES UP ITS DC FAST CHARGING PRICES: LOWER MONTHLY PAYMENTS BUT HIGHER PER MINUTE Seth Weintraub at Electrek brings us the next story "US fast charging network EVgo has again decided to switch up its charging prices. The DC fast charger network that operates in 34 states charges its users on two tiers: Pay-as-you-go and Membership. EVgo charges based on time rather than electricity transfer and as of next week, prices are about to change. This week’s pricing update, called the ‘2019 prices‘ seems to affect membership prices, upping the costs significantly, almost to non-member prices. EVgo however, lowers the membership fee to $8 from $10/month but now includes few free minutes (only 29 minutes of free charging per month from 52 in New York for instance)."   https://electrek.co/2019/02/08/evgo-switches-charging-prices/   TESLA SHOWCASES MODEL 3 AT ONE OF EUROPE’S BUSIEST INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTS Tesla is making its Model 3 presence in Europe known with the latest display of its all-electric sedan in one of the world’s busiest airports for international passenger traffic." reports Teslarati today: "In an appeal to potential customers in the European region, Tesla proudly displayed its newest vehicle in Lounge 1 of the Schengen area of Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. A photo posted of the Model 3 in the airport showed the car covered from view by a cloth; however, according to observations noted by other users on the site, the cover was being removed periodically and concealing a red Model 3."   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-3-europe-amsterdam-airport-display/   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. Can You Help Me Fight The Fossils? Read More About Patreon here EVne.ws/patreon   Read today’s show notes on https://www.evnewsdaily.com   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Saturday 9th February 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I can find today, and picked out the ones I think you need to know about.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   AUDI CONTINUE ADVERTISING E-TRON I’m not a fan of ads, but in my Twitter timeline I was very happy to see Audi spending money on social media with a 12 second video of the Audi e-tron in action. "Join the electric revolution. Order your #etron now" The link goes to beta.audi.co.uk/electric-car/e-tron.html with the heading "Electric Goes Audi". On the page the sections are The e-tron, Charging, Grants and Benefits, Finance and Service Plans, Technology, Pod Point and Formula E. THe e-tron from £71,490. The e-tron launch edition £82,240. "The special Launch Edition adds even more allure to the already stylish e-tron. 21” alloy wheels, black styling details and full body-coloured bumpers give the car an immediate and dramatic presence. Many advanced features, such as Matrix LED headlights, come as standard; others include the unique virtual door mirrors, Adaptive Cruise Assist and Comfort remote preconditioning. And for an extra sense of light and spaciousness, there’s a panoramic glass sunroof that displays the skies to all occupants. Image includes optional Catalunya red, metallic paint and black roof rails."   CCS COMBO CHARGES TESLA MODEL 3 The very first European-spec Model 3's in Europe are in the hands of customers and immediately they headed not to Superchargers, but to the High Powered Chargers like Fastned and IONITY. Now some of them can't charge at the full 350kW because they're waiting for liquid cooled cables but they'll certainly do 150kW I gather. This is interesting because Tesla has always has its own connector but in Europe they're fitting the CCS Combo plug. So no more CHAdeMO adapter to purchase. The previous spec of CCS was limited to 200amps but the new protocol CCS2.0 allows for a lot more juice, and that's what I mean by High Powered Charger. And so the Netherlands-based Fastned, who tweeted a graphic with the charge speed they had recorded on their system. The MOdel 3 went straight to 125kW and stayed there to 50% state of charge, dropped down to 50kW at 75% and gradually went down from there and it tapered off. What I thought was interesting was that at 50% it drops off quite quickly. But is that unfair, because my experience of Supercharger a Model S it doesn't hit peak speed for that long, but the taper off seems more gentle. Let me know!   (Explanation of why charge speed tapers for beginners)   ELON FLIES TO EUROPE And isn't it weird what the internet can show us. As I was working today I saw tweets from people with plane tracker apps saying Elon Musk had taken off in his Gulfstream jet and was headed East, crossing the Atlantic. It soon because clear he was heading to Europe. It’s interesting because he asks for his callsign to be blocked so this was an aviation expert who worked out the route of the N628TS. He landed around 1715 local time in Ostend, near to where the cars were delivered to Zeebrugge. Not only is he very hands on with any issues, but also it’s fair that over the weekend he sees for himself the logistics on the ground.   RENAULT ZOE TO GET CCS COMBO AND 22KW ONBOARD AC A story I came across because I follow Eric Feunteun, he's the Electric Vehicle Program Director for Renault: "The European passenger plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) market ended the year on a positive note, registering a near record 40,500 units in December with the 2018 count ending at a record 386,000 deliveries" according to CleanTechnica. The Zoe was the December winner with 5,382 in the month, well ahead of the LEAF, the I-PACE and any Tesla. On the year 2018 the Zoe sold 38,538. "This positive score is the result of LG providing more batteries to the French carmaker, thanks to the ramp up of its European factory in Wroclaw, Poland. Without the battery bottleneck, we should finally see the real demand for the Zoe."   And late last night I also found an article in French, so I was relying on Google Translate with this one. It's on largus.fr. The new Zoe is being revealed at the Geneva show soon, and will be based on the new Clio. Inside the main dash will be 7 or 10 inches, with the 10 inch dash also showing the sat nav just like the latest VW system. THen the centre screen will be 7" or 9.3", and have all the controls including climate. There's adaptive cruise and Level 2 self driving, so Lane Keep Assist and Traffic Jam system. The battery was upgraded in 2017 to a 41kWh. That stays although more power will be on tap, but they add CCS Combo plug AND 22kW onboard AC charging. That's the perfect combo. DC Fast Charging or AC Semi-Fast. One of my listeners Mike Winter explained it's because of the sheer amount of 22kW posts in France. Production starts in Q2 and marketed at the end of Summer. Production will be 440 a day.   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/02/03/europe-ev-sales-renault-zoe-wins-in-december-nissan-leaf-takes-2018-title/   https://translate.google.com/translate?depth=1&hl=en&nv=1&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&sp=nmt4&tl=en&u=https://www.largus.fr/actualite-automobile/renault-zoe-2-2019-tout-savoir-sur-la-nouvelle-zoe-electrique-9620390.html&xid=17259,15700021,15700186,15700190,15700248   POLESTAR 1 SPIED PLAYING ON A FROZEN LAKE "Polestar’s big debut on the automotive market will soon become a reality. The brand from Sweden is putting the finishing touches on the Polestar 1 which should go into mass production before the end of 2019. Still, apparently, there are several things that need to be refined before the sports coupe reaches the production phase." reports Anthony Karr for Motor1.com: "[Spy photographs show] a prototype of the car doing some high-speed tests on a frozen lake somewhere in Sweden. Almost every part of this trial car looks ready to be put on the assembly lines but the test drivers are probably gathering more data about the vehicle’s behavior under certain conditions."   https://www.motor1.com/news/304493/polestar-1-spied-winter-testing/amp/   ALL-NEW 2020 KIA SOUL ELECTRIC SPOTTED IN NEW COLORS InsideEVs is talking about the new Kia Soul EV: "When it debuted in LA, the all-new Kia Soul EV was seen in just a color or two, but now we get to see the long-range electric in a plethora of new hues. These new images, captured at the Kia Irvine site, show us what the Soul EV looks like in colors other than that neon green. There’s a graphite Soul EV with a tan roof. A black version with a red roof and more." From Kia: The next generation Kia Soul EV celebrated its world premiere at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. One of the most upbeat urban compact crossovers is back with even more appeal & upgrades. The vehicle will be powered by a next-generation, state-of-the-art liquid-cooled lithium-ion polymer 64 kWh battery. That’s the same as what’s found in the Kia Niro EV, which goes some 301 miles per charge (WLTP) or an estimated 260 miles EPA. Considering that the current Soul EV, with its 30-kWh battery pack, is EPA-rated at 111 miles, we figure this 2020 Soul EV, with 64-kWh on board, will travel close to 240 miles per charge, maybe even more. Sadly, since its Kia, this will be a limited offering in the U.S., so availability will be an issue. The 2020 Kia Soul EV is set to utilize a 201 horsepower electric motor, delivering 291 lb-ft of torque. However, the new battery is currently being tested to ascertain precise EPA-estimated range. Results are expected early in 2019 and will be announced at a later date." The curb weight of the Soul EV is a lot less than the eNiro, so that range might be good!   https://insideevs.com/2020-kia-soul-electric-spotted-new-colors/   TESLA AUTOPILOT APPROVED EUROPE "The Tesla Model 3 was officially approved for sale in Europe, but as it turns out the original Type Approval from RDW in the Netherlands doesn’t include the Tesla Autopilot" reported InsideEVs this morning, but then added: "Tesla has reportedly gained European approval for Autopilot." The approval for the feature arrived early on Friday from the Netherlands Vehicle Authority RDW. "The first Model 3 delivered to customers in Europe has disabled Autopilot feature, which according to Tesla is expected to be enabled in Europe next week, when a separate approval will be issued. The slight delay between car sales and enabling Autopilot is apparently caused by the requirement to additionally test the Autopilot for Model 3 (it has different hardware than Autopilot in Model S and Model X)." Meanwhile: "Tesla has opted to offer Enhanced Autopilot as standard for the electric sedan. As could be seen in Tesla’s order pages for China, the offer appears to be available only for Model 3 purchases. Pages for the Model S and X still list the driver-assist suite as a 46,300 yuan (around $6,800) addition." according to Simon at Teslarati: "The inclusion of Enhanced Autopilot is available for all Model 3 orders in the country, meaning even reservations for the Long Range RWD Model 3 –currently the most affordable Tesla available in China — include the driver-assist suite for free. "   https://insideevs.com/tesla-autopilot-approved-europe-next-week/   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-enhanced-autopilot-standard-model-3-china/   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   MODEL 3 IN EUROPE – GROWING PAINS, FIRST DELIVERY Simon at Teslarati kicks us off with an Elon tweet about the logistics challenges of unloading thousands of TEsla's from a ship in Belgium and getting them to customers: "The arrival of the cargo ship Glovis Captain on the port of Zeebrugge earlier this week heralded new opportunities and challenges for electric car maker Tesla. The massive vessel is estimated to be carrying around 3,000 Model 3, which are expected to start an electric disruption in Europe’s passenger car market. At the same time, the arrival of the highly-anticipated sedan also means that deliveries to reservation holders in the region are about to begin. Soon, social media posts from the Tesla community revealed that the first Model 3 deliveries in Europe were already underway. That said, it did not take long before Tesla became unable to deliver as many vehicles as they estimated." On Wednesday, Elon Musk took to Twitter to apologize for the delivery delay in Europe." elonmusk: "Sorry, many unexpected challenges with cars coming through Zeebrugge first time. Cars will start moving out in volume tomorrow." Look, it's a three year wait, another day is fine. People just like to have a moan online because they got bumped by a day. Also this was a self-made problem. Tesla brought forward the delivery dates, some by quite a way, and then had to delay by a day causing disappointment. In on a way Tesla could and we love them for it.   Meanwhile Kyle Field at CleanTechnica was one of the first to pick up on a Tweet from the first owner to get his car: "The first European customer has taken delivery of his Tesla Model 3 today after what felt like an endless stream of delays since it was first announced nearly 3 years ago. Fred is from Oldenzaal in the Netherlands and has been a long-time supporter of Tesla, even going so far as to travel to the Tesla “mothership” at its automotive factory in Fremont, California, to lobby for the Netherlands. Opening up its higher end configurations of the Tesla Model 3 to European and Chinese customers allows the company to continue building higher margin vehicles as it puts the finishing touches on the Standard Range vehicle."   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-3-logistical-challenges-europe-deliveries/   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/02/07/the-first-european-customer-takes-delivery-of-a-tesla-model-3/   GM ELECTRIC VEHICLES COULD BE PROFITABLE EARLY NEXT DECADE, SAYS CEO "Incentives, credits, and compliance schemes can only get the electric vehicle market so far. The real test of its success will be when large, established automakers can get to a point when they can call them profitable." says Green Car Reprts: "On Wednesday, on a call with analysts to discuss the company’s fourth-quarter 2018 financial results, GM CEO Mary Barra said that’s a distinction could come in the early 2020s.Barra reiterated yesterday that GM believes in an all-EV future, and noted that the company is being repositioned “from one that was trying to be all things to all people in all markets to a very strategic, agile, and profitable company.”"   https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1121379_gm-electric-vehicles-could-be-profitable-early-next-decade-says-ceo   ARCIMOTO STARTS TAKING ORDERS FOR ITS THREE-WHEELED EV "Arcimoto has started taking orders for its three-wheeled electric vehicle. The Fun Utility Vehicle (FUV) Evergreen Edition will set you back $19,900 before tax credits and rebates, which is a far cry from Arcimoto's target of $11,900, though it aims to push down the price over time." reports Engadget: "Arcimoto plans to deliver 100 Evergreens by the end of June in Oregon, California and Washington. It will later expand delivery to other states, and hopes to fulfill all US pre-orders (more than 3,000 of them) by the end of June next year. It's requiring a non-refundable $5,000 deposit from anyone who orders one now. The Evergreen offers a 75 mph top speed and a range of 100 miles of city driving on a single charge"   https://www.engadget.com/2019/02/07/arcimoto-fuv-evergreen-edition-orders-open/   KIA NIRO EV ELECTRIC CROSSOVER SELLS OUT IN UK: NEW DELIVERIES DELAYED "The number of e-Niro allocated to particular markets is limited while deliveries could be significantly delayed, according to the latest news In the UK, for example, the initial batch of 900 e-Niro was ordered within several weeks and customers probably will need to wait until the end of the year to order some from another batch (probably for delivery in 2020)." accrding to Mark Kane for InsideEVs. AutoExpress said: "“Deliveries for the new Kia e-Niro were supposed to commence in April. However, as a result of the e-Niro’s popularity and the production bottleneck, buyers who managed to snag one of the initial 900-model run may have to wait until the end of 2019 before taking delivery. John Hargreaves, Kia’s head of fleet and remarketing, said the battery pack supply chain issue is likely to remain “a restraining factor for at least another 12 to 18 months.”"   https://insideevs.com/kia-niro-ev-e-niro-sold-out-uk/   KIA STUDY REVEALS FLEETS READY FOR EV TIPPING POINT Meanwhile, and you really couldn't make this up: "Demand for electric vehicles is reaching a tipping point for fleets, according to a new study by Kia. Furthermore, it seems as if public perspectives are also having a huge impact on fleet decisions, with 71 per cent of respondents saying that their organisation is nervous about purchasing a petrol or diesel car that isn’t EV/PHEV up five percent from the previous report."   https://fleetworld.co.uk/kia-study-reveals-fleets-ready-for-ev-tipping-point/   DRIVENOW TO BOOST ELECTRIC CAR SHARING FLEET "Car sharing firm Drivenow has announced that 130 new BMW i3 electric vehicles (EVs) will be joining its London fleet. The company, owned by BMW Group, says the new i3s will join 50 older examples of the model until the latter are phased out in April." according to Business Car: "Drivenow says its aim is to have a fleet that is 80% electric by 2025. The new i3s - which offer a 160-mile driving range between charges - will take the company's total current fleet to 720 vehicles, operating in nine London boroughs: Barnet, Brent, Hackney, Haringey, Islington, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Westminster. "   https://www.businesscar.co.uk/news/2019/wc-feb-4/drivenow-to-boost-electric-car-sharing-fleet   BMW 530E TOURING WAGON PLUG-IN HYBRID SPIED First up from InsideEVs a PHEV story: "BMW is working on a plug-in hybrid version of the 5-series Touring – the prototype was spotted during winter test runs. The lack of camouflage suggests that the market launch is close. It’s a smart move for the German manufacturer, as BMW 530e iPerformance is already the best-selling plug-in hybrid model for the brand."   https://insideevs.com/bmw-530e-touring-phev-spied/   BMW I7 ELECTRIC WITH RANGE OF NEARLY 400 MILES IN THE WORKS And also: "One of the new all-electric models in BMW‘s pipeline is the BMW i7. That’s according to BMWBlog’s sources in Munich. There is no official announcement about the i7. However, at least the trademarks from i1 up to i9 were registered in 2012 and then renewed in 2018. It’s expected that the i7 could be an all-electric version of the next generation 7-Series. Furthermore, it’s believed that it will get an electric range of up to 600 km (373 miles)."     COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   Tesla earning call note: Chinese Gigafactory 3, Model Y unveiling, Semi Truck, Solar Tiles, new Roadster, Pickup, Model S and X re-design or use of new battery cells, Supercharger v3, Model 3 demand in US vs Europe, new Autopilot hardware, insane workforce growth and cuts, Full Self Driving and of course the $35,000 Model 3.   EUROPEAN TESLA MODEL 3 CUSTOMERS RECEIVE DELIVERY DATES "Tesla Model 3 buyers in Europe are receiving delivery date estimates." says Zach at CleanTechnica who has been keeping an eye on the TMC forum: “My Tesla Model 3 Performance will be ready to collect in Madrid on the week commencing 11th Feb. 3 weeks ahead of schedule!” "Aside from the good news from Tesla, the German state of Nordrhine Westfalia, which is the most populated state in the country, today approved new electric vehicle subsidies for companies. [Commercial] Electric car buyers can now get €4,000 rebates for fully electric cars they buy, and electric truck buyers can get €8,000."   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/01/29/breaking-european-tesla-model-3-customers-receive-delivery-dates-new-subsidies-in-nordrhine-westfalia-germany/   TESLA’S MASSIVE DISTRIBUTION CENTER IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA IS COMING TO LIFE "A recent aerial video of the Lathrop building, located 60 miles east of Tesla’s Fremont factory, shows the completion of the facility’s outer shell and glass installed on parts of the building." reports Teslarati: "Part of the assumption that this building will become a parts distribution center is based on...the numerous truck-sized loading bays denote shipping activity".   Job Ad! “Tesla is looking for a motivated and experienced Supervisor for our highly dynamic parts distribution center in Lathrop, CA. This position will provide supervision of day-to-day operations including receiving, stocking, shipping and all transactions related to said activities. The Supervisor, Parts & Service Warehouse, will also ensure efficiency and accuracy of stocking and organizing parts inventory.” reads a job description for Supervisor, Parts Distribution Center.   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-parts-distribution-center-lathrop-ca-video/   TESLA MODEL S AND X GET SOFTWARE LIMITED PACK "Tesla is instead going back to its old model of “software-limited battery pack” – meaning that it is only producing one battery pack for Model S and Model X, the 100 kWh pack, but it is offering two options and one of them is limiting the energy capacity accessible." reports Fred at Electrek: "The company is also moving away from using the energy capacity of its battery packs as part of its naming scheme."   All cars have dual motor AWD, premium interior and sound   Model S Price: $85,000 Range: 310-miles   Model S Extended Range Price: $93,000 (cheaper by $1,000) Range: 335-miles   Model S Performance (no Ludicrous) Price: $112,000 Range: 315-miles 0-60mph: 3.0 sec   Model S Performance (with Ludicrous) Price: $132,000 Range: 315-miles 0-60mph: 2.4 sec   If you want the Extended Range in the future you can pay for it, and they'll unlock it over the air. Ludicrous Mode also appears to be a software unlock too, so the Performance cars will have the hardware and you can opt to pay for it later.   https://electrek.co/2019/01/29/tesla-launches-new-cheaper-model-s-x-software-limited-battery-pack/   VW OPEN TO SHARING MEB EV PLATFORM WITH OTHER AUTOMAKERS "According to German paper Tagesspiegel, Volkswagen admits that the company is in talks with other manufacturers over opening its all-electric MEB platform." reports Mark Kane at InsideEVs: "Michael Jost, Head of Strategy at Volkswagen, said that the MEB platform could become “a standard not only for the VW Group.” First though we need to see VW actually selling MEB in volume."   https://insideevs.com/vw-share-meb-ev-platform-other-automakers/   KIA REVEALS DETAILS ON NIRO EV LAUNCH An InsideEVs Exclusive on this one for the Kia eNiro: "The first vehicles will arrive in the US in late February. The car will be sold in 12 states: California, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Texas, and Washington." Steve Kosowski, the manager of long-range strategy and planning at for Kia Motors America told InsideEVs: "volume is globally constrained because Kia Motors America can’t get the desired allocation from the parent company. “The truth is that demand in other markets around the world is so strong,” he said. Kosowski explained that regulatory pressures, especially in Europe, dictate that countries such as Norway are a higher priority than the United States. “We have this conversation all the time with our leadership about how we need more cars.” And some insight on battery supplier, which I had read as speculation before, but this seems firm confirmation: The all-electric Niro, Kona, and Soul share the same electric powertrain, with some slight modifications in the Niro’s transmission to handle the extra mass. SK Innovation provides the cells for Kia’s battery pack while LG Chem is Hyundai’s supplier."   https://insideevs.com/details-kia-niro-ev-launch/   EV TARIFF COSTS ARE ‘UNCLEAR TO CUSTOMERS’ "Research from Citizens Advice has found that a lack of clear information is making it difficult for electric vehicle (EV) drivers to work out the best electricity tariff to choose to charge their vehicles." reports Utility Week: "It found ten out of the 72 active domestic energy suppliers offer an EV tariff, with the number of such tariffs increasing from two in August 2017 to ten in September last year. Half of the tariffs analysed in the report offer a discount on a home charger or public charge points, however the value of this discount can vary. Interestingly the research highlights that EV-specific tariffs do not necessarily offer the best rates for EV users." In response to the report Fiona Howarth, chief executive of Octopus Electric Vehicles which provides the Octopus Energy Go tariff, said: “This report demonstrates that time of use tariffs are great for EV drivers, and we need to see more of this sort of innovation.   https://utilityweek.co.uk/ev-tariff-costs-unclear-customers/   2019 NISSAN LEAF PLUS GETS LONGER RANGE IN CHEAPEST TRIM "New California regulatory compliance documents hint that lower trim levels of the upcoming 2019 Nissan Leaf Plus will be the ones with the longest range." says Green Car Reports: "To get the maximum range of 226 miles that Nissan estimates, buyers will likely have to stick to the base S trim level, according to documents, based on California emissions tests and obtained by Automotive News. Higher-trim SL and SV models are likely to have shorter range estimates, which Nissan estimates at 215 miles. In the tests, the base 62-kwh Leaf Plus went 364 miles on the EPA's notoriously gentle Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule. On the California UDDS test, the Leaf SV Plus and SL Plus returned 330 miles. It's unclear why there's such a discrepancy between the Leaf S Plus and higher trims. Nissan specs show the SV and the SL weigh about 75 pounds more than the base S."   https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1121208_2019-nissan-leaf-plus-gets-longer-range-in-cheapest-trim   RENAULT ZOE S EDITION NOW AVAILABLE IN THE UK Renault has introduced a new version at the top of the Renault ZOE range. The new Renault ZOE S Edition replaces the previous Signature Nav version and brings a host of equipment at a small premium over the Renault ZOE Dynamique Nav. . Hør interview i MediaCast.
