Ever gone from smiling sweetly through discomfort… to fantasizing about slapping someone in the face?Yeah. Same.In this episode, I break down the people pleaser to rage pipeline—what happens when your body has been stuck in a fawn-freeze loop for years, and then finally starts to thaw. Spoiler: it's not always cute. Sometimes, it's loud, messy, and full of backlogged “no's” that come out all at once.I share my own story of how learning French (and drinking cheap wine) unlocked a rage I didn't even know I was holding—and what it taught me about the biology of fawning, freeze responses, and unexpressed boundaries. We also get into:* Why rage is a natural part of recovery from people-pleasing* Why cathartic rage practices (like screaming or punching pillows) aren't always trauma-informed* How to work with anger in a way that's titrated, embodied, and safe* The power of translating somatic cues into real-life boundariesIf your body has been whispering “I'm not okay” for years—this episode is your permission slip to start listening.
Meet Professor Bryan Fry – Venom Scientist, Komodo Dragon Expert, and All-Around Adventure Seeker When your guest has an adrenaline molecule tattooed on his neck, you know you're in for a wild ride — and this episode absolutely delivers. Professor Bryan Fry is one of the world's leading experts on venom and Komodo dragons, and in this episode of The Fur Real Podcast, he breaks down the fascinating science behind what venom actually is (spoiler: it's not just poison!), how it evolves depending on a species' environment, and why the Komodo dragon's bite is way more complex — and deadly — than you might think. We explore how animals use venom not just for defense, but also for hunting, survival, and even communication. From snakes to sea creatures to the legendary Komodo dragon, Professor Fry shares jaw-dropping stories from his fieldwork that will make you see these creatures in a whole new light.

Alongside superheroes, supervillains, too, have become one of today's most popular and globally recognizable figures. However, it is not merely their popularity that marks their significance. Supervillains are also central to superhero storytelling to the extent that the superhero genre cannot survive without supervillains. Bringing together different approaches and critical perspectives across disciplines, in Supervillains: The Significance of Evil in Superhero Comics (Rutgers University Press, 2025) Dr. Nao Tomabechi troubles overly hero-centered works in comics studies to reconsider the modern American myths of the superheroes. Considering the likes of Lex Luthor, the Joker, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Loki, Venom, and more, Supervillians explores themes such as gender and sexuality, disability, and many forms of Otherness in relation to the notion of evil as it appears in the superhero genre.
