Dr. Michael Stracener is currently a Visiting Professor in social welfare policy at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He has 40-plus years' experience as a clinical social worker and doctor of public health, retiring to Las Cruces in 2021 from Federal service with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr. Stracener is married to Larry King, a clinical social worker who also retired from Federal service with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Due to the increasingly conservative political policies in their home state (Arkansas) and the overturning of a city ordinance in place to protect employees on the basis of gender identity and expression, the couple decided to leave Arkansas for retirement. Upon retiring from Federal service, the couple researched things such as economics, political climate, cost of living, access to healthcare, and climate in New Mexico, Arizona, California Colorado, and Oregon. The couple narrowed the options to California, Arizona, and New Mexico and made several trips to each to get a feel for where they wanted to live. Climate, moderate cost of living, progressive political climate, and the friendly and diverse cultural community drew them to Las Cruces, New Mexico The presence of a university or college in their retirement community was important and Las Cruces is the home of New Mexico State University (NM SU), a university with enrollment of around 22,000 students. Surrounded by beautiful mountains, Las Cruces looks very similar to Palm Springs California terrain wise, but does not have the high Palm Springs cost of living. He began teaching in January 2023 and continues to teach online courses for the School of Social Work at NMSU, focusing on social policy. SEASON 2 EPISODE 18: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump needed just four hours and 25 minutes to violate the terms of his bail. Lock him up. Trump was granted pre-trial release on 200-thousand dollars bond in Atlanta at 3:30 PM yesterday and at 7:55 PM he violated the terms of that bail and now let's see what Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee is made of. “The Defendant shall perform no act to intimidate any person known to him or her to be a co-defendant or witness in this case or OTHERWISE OBSTRUCT THE ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE. This shall include, but is not limited to, the following: ” Paragraph E: “The above shall include, but are not limited to, posts on social media or reposts of posts made by another individual on social media." He didn't even last four-and-a-half hours. Confirming CNN's report that he will be booked in Atlanta on Thursday, Trump called the prosecutor a quote “radical left district attorney...who is overseeing one of the greatest murder and violent crime disasters in American history… she campaigned and is continuing to cmapign and raise money on this witch hunt. This is in strict coordination with…Biden's DOJ. It is all about election interference”unquote, none of which is true and all of which is an attempt to obstruct the administration of justice and was made via “posts on social media or reposts of posts” and which should be greeted Thursday by the booking officers at Rice Street Jail in Atlanta by an order from Judge McAfee to detain him. Period. Trouble afterwards? Lindsey Graham's “riots in the street”? Trump's own threat of “death and destruction”? The countless bleatings of the sheep like Trump whores like Tim Pool about “civil war”? I'll quote another Trump flunky, Jeffrey Clark: “That's why there's an insurrection act.” Trump is now out on bail… in three different states and the District of Columbia. He has CERTAINLY violated the terms of that bail with his spasm of threats against Judge Chutkan and Special Counsel Smith. Now, he has CERTAINLY violated the terms of that bail in Georgia. And soon or late, the remaining sane people in this country are going to have to reestablish the rule of law – or to call it by the name that Trump and his cult actually perceive it: the rule of being-afraid-you'll-get-caught-and-sent-to-prison. We are GOING to HAVE to take the action without fear of taking the consequences, or the very MEANING of law itself in this nation will not just be erased, but will be rendered impossible to restore. Trump's supporters have forgotten that even if - like them - you DON'T have morals you are supposed to have a healthy fear of getting caught and going to prison. It's goddamned time that we remind him. And the opportunity to do so falls to Judge Scott McAfee. You wrote it, Judge. And Trump broke it. He's already in your jail on Thursday, Judge. Keep him there. Enforce the goddamned law. B-Block (21:38) IN SPORTS: No, Dodger Stadium did NOT flood when Tropical Storm Hilary hit L.A. The New York Knicks add to their popularity by suing another team over analytics. And Gannett is trying AI for writing high school sports. If this is the best AI can do mankind has nothing to worry about. (26:50) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Michael David Fox of Las Cruces NM is charged with relying on a QAnon video to tell him which Congresswoman to threaten to kill; Howie Kurtz appears to be sending out hostage messages via twitter; a Democrat votes with Republicans to approve a recall move against a Democrat. The other Democrat doesn't even show up for the vote. C-Block (32:46) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: MSNBC fired Rachel Maddow! Not recently, mind you. But they can only bury the ugly past so long. They offed her in 2005 because they thought it would make the Tucker Carlson show - on which she was a regular - better.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

I returned home late last night (June 27) after spending a whole month on the road. Of all the cities I visited during this trip—Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Francisco, El Paso (TX) and Las Cruces (NM), the most significant place has to be Silver City—a small town in eastern New Mexico—that I first visited in 1981, that is, 42 years ago. So why is this city so personally significant to me? Well, that's what this vlog is about. Enjoy.
This week's episode takes us back to Tennessee, as Joel chats with Molly Lamb about the beer scene in Chattanooga! They discuss a variety of topics, such as many of the breweries being close to downtown, ChattBrew Tour, where the city fits into the state's beer puzzle, and much more! We do some state line hopping this week, as Joel talks with author Clint Lanier about the beer scenes around Las Cruces, NM and El Paso, TX. While close together, they discuss how the city's have different laws surrounding beer due to that state line, as well as other topics such as how the location near the border with Mexico impacts beer, what he has learned by writing multiple books, and much more! “If you break out the fungal hyphae and you disturb microbiomes, they won't be able to develop, establish, and flourish from that point on.…we realized how important it is to have the fungal community in the system.” David Johnson is a molecular biologist and research scientist in Las Cruces NM, investigating soil microbial community population, structure, diversity and biological functionality and their influence on plant growth and soil fertility development in farm and rangeland ecosystems. While working on a project that involved composting excess cow manure that needed a lot of turning, David brought home a lot of dirty laundry. David's wife, Hui-Chun Su-Johnson, says she grew tired of washing David's clothes from turning cow poop, and this changed their lives. David and Hui-Chun started to work on the idea of a compost system that was aerobic, yet did not require turning – a tall order indeed. Hui-Chun joined David in the field and the couple co-developed the no-turn, aerobic Johnson-Su Bioreactor (compost system) that provided a fungal-dominant, biologically diverse compost. The use of Johnson-Su Compost, integrated with land management, then became known as BEAM, or Biologically Enhanced Agricultural Management. What started off as an effort to reduce the laundry load in the Johnson household resulted in a unique compost with a global following (for example, see the Johnson-Su Facebook group)!! Given that ruminant animals are also “great composting machines”, the Johnsons turned their attention to examining the biological benefits of Adaptive Multi Paddock (AMP)Grazing Systems. AMP is based on the use of ruminant animals to mimic nature not unlike what we may have found a few hundred years ago as bison roamed the prairie in herds that constantly moved in search of food and were kept tight by predators, leaving behind urine, dung, and hoofprints and other animal residue that fed soil organisms. The leftover grass, trampled by bison hooves, covered, protected and fed soil microbes, especially fungi, facilitated the capture and incorporation of more organic matter into the soil profile. In short, this process of herds of ruminants moving through the landscape “inoculated the soil as the bison passed through each area.” Whether you call it Adaptive Multi Paddock grazing, or Adaptive Management, the watchwords for this process are: Observe, Adapt, Repeat. Each area is different. Each herd, each ranch, each pasture is different, and each day's weather is different. The key to moving this system forward in the regenerative process lies in observation and subsequent adaptation. In 2022, Johnson and colleagues produced another peer-reviewed article on the benefits of AMP grazing. This research, based on 5 paired across-the-fence pastures (one conventional pasture, one AMP pasture) in the Southeast, fit nicely with similar efforts across the country with a group of researchers that include Richard Teague, Steven Apfelbaum, Ry Thompson, and Peter Byck (also co-authors with Johnson). This group is conducting other across-the fence experiments, on real farms and ranches, in different parts of the United States and Canada, keep an eye out for their names, also see a list of some of their peer-reviewed articles at the end of this piece. Results from the Johnson et al. study showed (1) AMP grazing systems significantly outperformed their conventional across the fence counterparts in standing crop biomass (2) increased fungal/bacterial ratios and (3) increased predator/prey ratios. This means that ranchers converting to AMP grazing strategies will see improved soil structure, improved forage production, increased soil organic matter, improved nutrient efficiency along with increased resilience of their systems to weather extremes. To be sure, AMP grazing is an appreciable departure from conventional systems and what was considered “the right way” for decades. “But now that we have more information out there as tools for [producers], hopefully there will be more ways to show people that there is a more defined, more reliable path.” Says Johnson. He continues: “For [producers] to transition to regenerative and be profitable will only be positive and beneficial for everybody when they are able to make more money and be a better steward of land.. it's all positive feedback loop…and I think we just need to find a way to show people that OK, here is a path that you can go forward with or without having to take on so much risk of unknown.” More science like this is making its way to peer review literature, validating what some regenerative ranchers and farmers have known and practiced for decades. This science, paired with living working examples on farms and ranches across the country, across the globe, provides more evidence and incentive for producers to rethink their business models for the better.

Thanks to a request from our Patron Joe Kolbenschlag, we get to focus on a show from 1995 that occurred during a small window of shows in that September. This one is Las Cruces, New Mexico, which may not be one of the many jaw dropping shows from 1995, but is still damn good in it's own right. We get to talk about lots from the Vitalogy era - a random rare appearance from Satan's Bed, a fully explosive I Got Shit (ok, noticed how bad that was two seconds after typing it. It's staying in.) and a killer Immortality that reigned king of the era with it's incredible, jammy outro. We'll also get to see a rare tag off of Daughter, The Who's "I'm One", a 10 minute Porch that ranges from bluesy to jammy all inclusive, and stunning versions of Corduroy, Not For You, Rearviewmirror and Blood. Also in this episode we'll talk about some end of the tour topics featuring a few things we can't wait to hear on bootleg, and some of our favorite moments from our travels. We'll also hear a story from Erin Mackay who had the version of Other Side that was played in Quebec City dedicated to her for her brother. Caution: story has themes of mental illness and suicide involved. If you wish not to listen to that part, skip over it at 9 minutes in and jump to 13 minutes in. Hello Everyone! Reminder that I am working on a book about Zelle due to come out really soon. Stay tuned for that. It's going to be funny, thought-provoking and hard-hitting all in one. In this podcast, I discuss a tweet from PGA Star Brian Gay who tweeted that his daughter was a victim of Zelle Fraud while at Bank of America with BofA doing nothing to help her. I discuss the misconceptions of FDIC insurance "protecting" you, how and why BofA should help solely off the success of Brian's golf career and discuss what we always do: How Zelle is the worst thing out there. Plus, I discuss my old BofA branch in Las Cruces NM having their lobby closed for the week last week, which was the first week of the month. I describe how all the fixed income people who needed their cash for the bills were unable to be helped. While a drive up lane was open to clients, BofA also removed 3 lanes of Drive Up a couple years ago, and on a busy 1st or 3rd of the month, about a 1000 people a day show up. They couldn't have helped more than 100 per day that week I discuss the weak leadership in that market! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thenotoriousbanker/support

How to manage your Facebook Market Place | Featuring Dawn Chadwell I am married to my best friend of 34 years Troy Chadwell, we have 5 wonderful kids and 1 grandchild. I was a Dental Hygienist for 30 years and then switched to Real Estate. I started Real Estate in Aug of 2011 in Las Cruces NM, and in July of 2012 my husband and our family got transferred back to Albuquerque, NM ( My husband was full-time Army) so instead of working for someone else- I decided to buy my own franchise- even though I was not able to be the Qualifying Broker yet. I decided after 5 years with the brokerage- and AFTER being introduced to the Craig Proctor System in October of 2016 at the EXIT Realty Franchise annual conference that I would go all in the CP System, and not renew my franchise- I went independent. Your Home Real Estate was formed, and I focused on building my business. 2017 proved to be a very difficult year, and both my dad and my husband's dad went home to be with the LORD. So we really got busy with the CP system in mid-2018. My business doubled every year. My husband and I decided to move to Texas, as my husband would be retiring. I thought I would close my business in New Mexico, so I decided to stop all advertising in Jan of 2021. But my business continued at the same pace as it had the year before. We moved to Texas in May of 2021. I actually took a break from the CP SYSTEM FOR 5 MONTHS- AS I THOUGH I WOULD CLOSE MY NM OFFICE, AND OPEN A TEXAS OFFICE. I asked for a 5 month break to be able to get my license. They granted the time. I started back up in late September 2021. I decided upon starting back up that I would open a YOUR HOME SOLD GUARANTEED REALTY-- and keep my NM office. NOW I have a YHSGR in Albuquerque, NM. I am also opening my YOUR HOME SOLF GUARANTEED REALTY IN THORNTON TEXAS. The BEST thing I ever did was 1. hear about Craig Proctor and his system. The second best thing I ever did (business-wise) is sign up for YHSGR. My biggest regret was thinking I would close my office in NM and stopped advertising-- although the system allowed for deals to continue coming in I would be a quantum leap ahead if I had not stopped as I did. Alfonso Marquez writes: "I was born in Juarez, Mexico on December 27, 1961. I grew up there until the age of 17 when I received a scholarship to go to study at a Normal School (School to prepare Teachers). I finished and practice for only 6 months in Mexico City. I returned to Juárez on December 1979. In January 1980 I decided to get across the border to work in Las Cruces New Mexico and at the same time studied at Las Cruces High School. I tried to enroll with the US Navy, but because of my status (undocumented) I was not able to serve. I travel around the US looking for opportunities to experience the American Dream. In March 23, 1983 I met my now beautiful wife Martha in Juárez. I used to go back to Juárez every Christmas. Martha and I decided to live together in the US Elizabeth was only 3. In September of 1983 we come to live in the Rio Grande Valley in a little town name Weslaco from there we travel to west Texas, to south Colorado and back to the Valley of Texas following the seasonal work harvesting crops. Our daughter Martha born in Hereford, Texas in July 1984. In 1988 we moved to Laredo Texas I received an offer to have a steady job and Martha was tired of moving from place to another, she wanted stability. Alfonso Jr born in December 1988. In 1992 after been working and managing a business for someone else, I decided to start my own business. In August 18, 1994 I got saved and our lives really turn 180 degrees. Abraham born in 1996 in a Christian home. In 1997 we received Christian and Claudia two kids from Martha's sister who got very sick and could not care for them we decided to help and latter we adopted them legally. In 1998 I started driving for CFI out of Joplin MO. In May of 1999 Alfonso Jr and I met Rev. Leonard Turner at the Petro Truck Stop on exit 369 on I-40. He invited me to start a Hispanic ministry because God put in his heart to outreach the Hispanic community, after talking with the NCD director Lynn Thomas he was told that he can not start a Hispanic ministry so he needed to pray for a Hispanic leader, and here we go again. After we met Leonard at the truck stop Leonard invited us to worship at Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church, after the service Leonard took us around the community and to a Mexican restaurant in Kingston Pike named Monterey. We ordered good authentic Mexican food and talked to the restaurant personal. When Pastor Leonard took us back to the truck stop, he noticed my nickname was “Preacher “ Leonard asked why I had that nickname. I told him that i thought God was calling me to the ministry but I didn't have a place. Leonard told me you might have a place here in East TN. I told him that I didn't have theological preparation I only have the desire to serve. Leonard told me we may send you to school, he was talking about PAS. We left to delivered our load to Ohio and return home to Laredo. Two weeks later I received a letter from Pastor Leonard inviting me to be interview by East TN presbytery Board of Missions (BOM), then I took it seriously and shared that with my home church Pastor in Laredo we were and still members of ICM Iglesia Cristiana Misericordia of Laredo Texas an Assemblies of God a 3000 church members congregation (Pentecostal). I talked to my pastor about the possibility to moved to East TN and start a Hispanic ministry but I didn't know anything about Presbyterianism, neither Cumberland Presbyterians. My Pastor asked if I had shared that call with Martha and my 6 children because the ministry covers the whole family even our dog. I was concern about the liberal way of Presbyterians and as Pentecostals we were very conservative. I remember my preacher's wife saying “go and do it like Paul, be Greek with Greeks, Roman with Romans and Jew with Jews, and don't forget the gentiles. In September 1999 we receive a letter with a couple of plane tickets on a weekend because the Presbytery BOM wanted to interview us. We came and experienced great things and later on about in November we received an approved letters from East TN Presbytery's Task Force form by session members of Union and BOM to start our ministry immediately after 2YK. We left Laredo on January 19, 2000 and arrived to East TN on January 21st. I attended Program of Alternate Studies (PAS) from 2000-2004 got ordained on April 2004. After that I translated for new Hispanic PAS students from 2005-2006. Under the leadership of Dr Thomas Campbell asked me if I was willing to coordinate the Hispanic PAS and called me Hispanic PAS coordinator from 2007-2012 I taught several courses and help Dr. Robert Rush ask me to translate our Confession of Faith to Spanish we did it with the help of other Colombian brothers and sisters. I served as consultant for the BOM of our denomination to start and register our Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Mexico from 2007-2012.I had the blessing of watching many of my Hispanic brothers and sisters in Christ graduating from PAS. I served as board member of the Children's Home three times 9 years. I resigned in 2012. I been serving our community for 21 years now. I teach ESL, GED, help with Immigration documents, IRS, Social Security and many, many other things, just to stay busy."Music is provided by Pierce Murphy, Caldera Blue. The nation appears to be on the brink of civil war, if not already in it. With polarization as bad as at any time in our nation's history, how can we stop the violence? Discussions about “law and order” ordinarily end up promoting division and triggering historical trauma. Is there a way to stop the cycle of violence and heal victims and perpetrators alike? Can the truth set us free? If so, how do we go about telling the story? And who gets to tell it? As challenging as this time is, with the underbelly of America exposed, there is also an opportunity to see America as it really is. The first step in changing anything is to see it for what it is and then to create a new story that acknowledges the truth and envisions a better future. One obstacle to change is that systemic racism is not always easy to see, or understand. It is both complicated and deeply enmeshed in the American psyche. It is not a black and white issue (in more ways than one). Structural racism affects everyone, and prevents America from achieving its sacred purpose: unity in diversity. This purpose is enshrined in our Great Seal: E Pluribus Unum, “Out of the many, one”—a beautiful idea, but one that has yet to be realized. There is some good news today. More and more people of all colors are coming together to speak out against racism. The other good news is that white Americans are beginning to change their thinking, and in a compressed time frame. Just months ago, two-thirds of white Americans thought that police mistreatment of people of color was only “a few bad apples.” Now, more than half of white Americans recognize that there is systemic racism in police enforcement. As volatile and ugly as today is, more people see the need for change. Many unanswered questions remain. Now that white America is beginning to see the extent of systemic racism, how many will act for change and how many will seek to hold onto their privilege? Who will win the next election and how much effect will that have? In a representational republic, politicians are always a reflection of the people. Is this the time we finally make real progress? Join us as we delve into all of this with our guests Oscar Edwards and David Boje. “When we share all our stories, they are all stories, it's like water, it's one, and it can flow like water. Right now we lack the collective wisdom to do that. Even though (our stories) come from different streams, it is one source.” ~ Oscar Edwards “Why are we doing true storytelling? Because I discovered I grew up in a false history, a false narrative, of what is going on in America, and in the world” ~ David Boje Glenn Aparicio Parry, PhD, of Basque, Aragon Spanish, and Jewish descent, is the author of Original Politics: Making America Sacred Again (SelectBooks, 2020) and the Nautilus award-winning Original Thinking: A Radical Revisioning of Time, Humanity, and Nature (North Atlantic Books, 2015). Parry is an educator, ecopsychologist, and political philosopher whose passion is to reform thinking and society into a coherent, cohesive, whole. The founder and past president of the SEED Institute, Parry is currently the director of a grass-roots think tank, the Circle for Original Thinking. He has lived in northern New Mexico since 1994. www.originalpolitics.us Oscar Edwards is the Managing Member/CEO of Higher Growth Strategies, LLC (HGS) and also an acclaimed speaker, consultant, trainer, advisor, and business coach with the ability to make complex subjects understandable and fun. In other words, he is a good storyteller. Oscar goes way back with fellow guest David Boje to their days in the early 80s at the UCLA Anderson School of Management (where Oscar received his BA in Economics and an MBA in Finance & Marketing). They worked together first at the Joint Center for Community Studies with Dr. C.Z. Wilson and they also worked with the late Leroy Wells on the development of a university student quality of life index Oscar has hands-on experience in management, business modeling, strategic planning, managerial accounting, and finance for a host of industries, including construction, sports & entertainment, media, telecom, public works, public transportation, public safety, and public health industries. He is on the finance faculty for Los Angeles City College. He is also a curriculum designer and instructor for a number of other entrepreneurial eco-learning systems focused on women, minorities, and veterans in Southern California. Oscar has been recognized for his work with small businesses and his community volunteerism by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, California State Assembly and Senate, the United States Congress, United Way of Los Angeles, and many other civic and community organizations. He received recognition early, winning the Outstanding Young Man in America award in 1984, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Black Business and Professional Association in 2000. Oscar is currently working with many community based organizations to enhance their organization capacity, including cultural centers, churches, financial, and educational institutions. He strives to empower communities of color to be self-reliant and yet embrace the intercultural dynamic that is the norm in today's families and households. David Boje is what Michel Foucault calls a ‘specific intellectual', an international scholar confronting and deconstructing the ‘regimes of truth' with his own storytelling paradigm. He has written 16 books as well as a myriad of book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles and been cited in over 5000 books and articles. His most recent books are: True Storytelling (Routledge, Francis & Taylor) with Jens Larsen and Lena Bruun, Doing Conversational Storytelling Interviewing for Your Dissertation ( Edward Elgar Publishing Ltd.) with Grace Ann Rosile. He created the field of “ante-narrative” research, which analyzes all that is antecedent to the creation of western narratives and indigenous living stories. David Bojeearned his Ph.D. from University of Illinois in 1978, and became assistant professor at Anderson School of Management, UCLA, then became full professor at Loyola Marymount University, earning six teacher of the year awards. He retired in 2018 from New Mexico State University, as Regents Professor and is currently Professor Emeritus. He also teaches qualitative storytelling science methods at Cabrini University in Philadelphia. He helped form the ‘True storytelling' rock band which teaches a loyal fan base of global participants on ‘true storytelling ethics, ensemble leadership and sustainability. Their newest seminar theme (with Oscar Edwards, co-hosting) is “Intercultural Conversations: A Community-Centered Storytelling Experience to Re-story Narratives on Racism.” Their hope is for a more cooperative, equitable, and just society: find out more on https://true-storytelling.com; https:truestorytelling.org He also convenes the annual “Quantum Storytelling Conference” each December in Las Cruces New Mexico with NMSU Emeritus Professor Grace Ann Rosile. New Mexico is underrated but that allows it to be appreciated by the ones who truly admire and care for its beauty. As a kid, I would always visit New Mexico during the winter months, that tradition sort of ended when I began college... until one unexpected day in March where I made a 10-hour drive to New Mexico as a “study break.” This trip was more than a refresher, it awakened me to the first time I felt a true sense of awareness towards myself and what exists around us. Nature has relatable ways of showing its reflection in ourselves. Join me as I tell the story of my transformative study break and after listening, I encourage you to seek different ways of learning that incorporate nature into it.

Ben & Daniel talk with Carmen Giménez Smith, writer, poet, and professor of Creative Writing at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces NM. She talks about how her writing style is conducive to her busy life as a professional and a mother of two. She also talks about how she blends her careers as a writer and teacher, and why she sometimes has to teach what she personally doesn’t like because it presents a teachable moment. Gimenez Smith also reads one of her poems for the Poem of the Week – “Photo of a Girl on a Beach” from the collection “Odalisque in Pieces.” Amit Ghosh, publisher of the literary journal BorderSenses, contributes to this week’s Poetic License, with a reflection on his struggle to break away from his culture’s expectation to be a doctor, engineer, scientist, or lawyer, and follow his passion as a writer.
