Read OnlineWhen the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, Mary and Joseph took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord,” and to offer the sacrifice of “a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons,” in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord. Luke 2:22–24The Presentation of the Lord reveals two beautiful paradoxes: the purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the ritual redemption of Jesus, her firstborn Son. Both actions follow the Law of Moses, yet each unveils a deeper mystery about Christ and His Mother, offering us a mystery to enter and an example to follow.First, we ponder the Blessed Virgin Mary's purification. The Law stated that a woman who gave birth to a son needed ritual purification (cf. Leviticus 12). Yet Mary, being immaculately conceived and preserved entirely from all stain of sin, had no need for purification. Nevertheless, she fulfilled the Law, setting before us a model of perfect humility and obedience. Knowing her own interior purity, she could have objected, but she did not, because she valued obedience to God's law above her own justification. She teaches us that true holiness embraces humble submission over self-assertion. Humility, in its beauty and holiness, always conquers pride's selfishness and self-elevation. Our Blessed Mother knew and lived that. The second paradox is found in Jesus' presentation. The Law required every firstborn son to be presented to the Lord and redeemed in remembrance of the Passover (cf. Exodus 13; Numbers 3 and 18). Yet Jesus is the eternal Son of God, the true High Priest and Spotless Lamb who takes away the sins of the world. He needed no redemption, for He is God Himself. Still, Christ was presented in the Temple so that we might be presented with Him to the Father. In His humility, He united Himself to our human nature—without sin—so that we might be truly consecrated to God through Him. Again, virtue wins out, as Christ invites us to share in His humility. The Presentation also foreshadows the other ways Jesus would redeem us through His human life. In His Baptism, though sinless, He submits to a rite of repentance so we might be sanctified through baptism ourselves. In His Passion, though innocent, He suffers for us, paying our debt—a debt we must humbly admit that we cannot repay on our own. In His Resurrection, His humility is crowned with eternal glory, opening the way for us to share in His divine life—if we humble ourselves with Him.Like our Blessed Mother, we are called to submit obediently to God's will, rejecting the pride that tempts us to think we are above certain duties or sacrifices. True holiness embraces sacrifice freely out of love, rather than seeking exemption from it. Even undeserved hardships bear fruit when endured with Christ. True holiness also perceives the beauty of joyful obedience to God's will, rather than asserting our own.Like Jesus, we are called to offer ourselves completely to the Father. As Jesus was ritually offered in the Temple, we must see ourselves in that offering. He was offered for us. By uniting ourselves with Him in His humility, we are redeemed through His offering to the Father. We become children in the Son, received by the Father who accepted Christ's perfect offering. In Him, our offering becomes perfect, and we find our eternal home with the Father. Reflect today on the hidden ways God invites you to imitate these paradoxes. Are there areas where you resist humble obedience, preferring your own will over God's? Are there sacrifices you are tempted to avoid, forgetting that true love embraces the Cross? Offer yourself to the Father with Mary's obedience and Christ's perfect humility so that your life, like theirs, may become a pure offering of love. Most humble Lord, You were obedient to the Father's will in all things. From the mystery of Your Incarnation, to Your humble birth in a cave, Your ritual presentation and redemption in the Temple, and Your sacrificial Death and Resurrection, You acted with perfect holiness, humility, and obedience. Please draw me into Your life—into Your Presentation to the Father, Your Death, and Your Resurrection. Live within me, dear Lord, so that I may live in You, sharing in the glory You desire to bestow. https://wels2.blob.core.windows.net/daily-devotions/20260201dev.mp3 Listen to Devotion It pleased the LORD for the sake of his righteousness to make his law great and glorious. Isaiah 42:21 A Gift Worth Opening You receive a gift. You open it up. The gift may tell you something about the person who gave you the gift. Are they a big spender? Do they have a solid grasp on current fashion? Do they know you well or not? The same happens when you open God’s gift to you–his Word found in the Bible. Each day as you open that gift, what will you learn about your God? You will learn that he is wise and powerful and loving. And, as the prophet Isaiah writes in our Bible passage today, you will see that the God who loves you is righteous. God wants you to know his righteousness. So, God made his Word great and glorious. He did this, not to make it a “great read” or best seller (although it is). He made his Word great and glorious so that you would clearly see and know his righteousness. And the One who is righteous makes you righteous, too. Perhaps one of the most important clues you may pick up from a gift you receive is a clear indication of what the giver thinks of you. But many gifts from others often don't accurately reflect this. Perhaps they like you, but not as much as their lavish gift seems to indicate. Or they deeply love you but are lousy gift givers. In the Bible, you clearly and repeatedly see that God loves you. That's a gift that’s worth opening every day! Prayer: Gracious Lord, thank you for the great and glorious gift of your Word. Give me the time and desire to regularly read and study your Word. May the Holy Spirit give me understanding, wisdom and increased faith in you. Empower my faith to shine in a life of love for you and others. Amen. Daily Devotions is brought to you by WELS. Watch the YouTube version of this episode HEREAre you a law firm owner looking to hire new talent? In this episode of Maximum Lawyer Live, host Tyson Mutrux explores the challenges law firms face when hiring and onboarding associate attorneys. Tyson discusses the need for documented standards, regular feedback, and patience, highlighting that onboarding is a long-term investment in future capacity—not instant output.Hiring for law firms can be challenging, but it is important to understand onboarding and to have realistic expectations. This includes the concept of output versus capacity. When you hire new attorneys, you are not seeing instant capacity or input. You are buying future capacity. A new associate needs time to understand your core values and both learn and unlearn certain skills and tools. As a law firm owner, it is important to give someone the space to grow into a successful attorney.Defining success is very important when hiring new attorneys, especially if you want to retain your talent. It is your responsibility to define what success looks like. Think about what it looks like at the 30, 60 and 180 day mark. If this is expressed to your new attorneys, you can work with them to ensure they meet that mark. It is also important to not move the goalpost at all. This can really lead to new hires losing confidence in their ability to do well, causing them to leave to find other opportunities. https://wels2.blob.core.windows.net/daily-devotions/20260131dev.mp3 Listen to Devotion Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. Matthew 4:23 The Lamb of God Takes Away Our Sins Matthew uses the word “kingdom” fifty-four times in his Gospel. The “kingdom” Jesus is talking about is not a place, but rather the saving activity of God. For example, in Matthew 13:24, we see that “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed seed…” This is a picture of the way God gathers people into heaven by means of the gospel. The “good news (gospel) of the kingdom” is the message about how God gathers us to be his people. Part of the message is repentance—sorrow for sins and turning to Jesus for forgiveness. Another important part is God’s assurance that our sins are forgiven. For people living in an uncertain world, a world filled with tragedy, disaster, war, anger, fear, doubt, loneliness, and guilt, the assurance from God that our sins are forgiven is the only remedy. Jesus spread this remedy around and also gave people convincing proof that his message was true by performing miracles. No wonder people came from all around. He spoke words that gave people eternal life and true hope. Jesus has also spoken to us. We have his gospel message, which assures us that our sins are forgiven. We are not held accountable before God for our sins because the guilt of all our sins was laid on Jesus. As our Savior, he rescued us from the death we deserved for our sins. He fully completed the work of our salvation. Yet the activity of God's kingdom continues. The message about Christ and his completed work still needs to be spread through the saving Word of God. Who better to do that than you and me, who have the peace of Jesus in our hearts? Prayer: Jesus, amid many difficulties and challenges of my life, I am so grateful for the peace that comes from knowing you as my Savior. You established your kingdom in me by faith, now rule my life always with your loving power and tender mercy. Amen. Daily Devotions is brought to you by WELS. In this episode, we explore a problem that refuses to go away: the near-impossible task many immigrants in Spain face when trying to secure appointments for their NIE (foreign identity number) or TIE (foreign identity card). Cybersecurity expert René Serral from UPC breaks down what is happening behind the scenes of the 'cita previa' appointment system – and what could be done to fix it. Law professor Natalia Caicedo examines whether the Spanish government is meeting its legal obligations toward newcomers. Honduran-born activist Carmen Juares describes how migrants are "treated as second-class citizens," calling the process of regularising legal status "a continuous obstacle course." We also hear directly from Catalan News readers, many of whom got in touch to share their own experiences navigating the system. With Lorcan Doherty and Oriol Escudé.

What does “cashless bail” really mean, and why is the federal government suddenly taking notice. From Rikers Island to reform efforts in New Jersey and New York, pretrial detention affects more lives than most people realize, often punishing individuals before trial. In this episode, Dr. Kellen Funk explains why bail is not just a legal technicality — it's a societal issue that shapes justice, equity, and everyday life.
https://wels2.blob.core.windows.net/daily-devotions/20260130dev.mp3 Listen to Devotion I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one. 1 John 2:14 Renewed by the Light Before you go camping in the woods, be sure to check that your flashlights all work properly and the batteries are all new. You will be far away from the artificial lights illuminating the cities and suburbs. Many thick trees can block the natural light of the stars. Unforeseen clouds and rain might also douse the light of a campfire. Before facing a new day in this dark world, be sure to check that your spirit is recharged with the truth and grace of Jesus. We are still living far away from heaven's glorious light. The things of this world that are supposed to bring us happiness are merely artificial lights that quickly burn out. Unexpected temptations threaten to plunge us into sinful decisions and right back into the darkness of fear and shame. We constantly need to recharge the lights of Jesus' truth and love in our hearts. John tells us how: “I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.” The evil one still accuses, deceives, and seeks to destroy faith. Yet John dares to speak in the past tense: “You have overcome the evil one.” This victory is not based on present feelings or visible success, but on Jesus' finished work. By his cross and resurrection, Jesus has already defeated Satan. Faith clings to that victory. In ourselves, we are weak. Our faith wavers, our resolve collapses, and our obedience is imperfect. But in Jesus, we are strong. Those who live in the word of God will have the word of God living in them. It will renew your faith in Jesus’ victory. It will continually rekindle the joy in your heart that Jesus has overcome the darkness of evil for you. Keep living in the word of God, and the word of God will live in you, reminding you daily that in Jesus, you are strong. Prayer: Jesus, Light of the world, shine in my heart. Forgive my sins and fill me with your love so that I may walk in your ways and love my neighbor as you have loved me. Amen. Daily Devotions is brought to you by WELS. Why are large numbers of people in Minneapolis, many educated, choosing to do things that to many of us just don’t make sense? Is Christ, the prophet to His Church, revealing something to His people? If so, what is it? Is the answer something more than "Sinners sin"? I think so. The recent fatal shootings of Renee Good & Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, Minnesota shook the nation and the world. In recent months, the tactics and actions of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, better known as ICE, have reached a boiling point in communities and have come under scrutiny for the treatment of civilians. In response, many have taken to the streets to protest. With the Trump administration's mission to deport dangerous criminals, a recent internal ICE policy specifically allowed agents to go door to door without a judicial warrant, in direct contradiction to the Fourth Amendment (unreasonable searches and seizures by the government). As protestors lined the streets, an individual's First Amendment rights—freedom of speech and assembly in particular—were also under attack. Are we currently witnessing the shredding of the U.S Constitution and the rule of law? Will there be investigations into the actions of ICE? Will the legislative branch step in? On this episode of Lawyer 2 Lawyer, Craig joins David Cole, Professor in Law and Public Policy at Georgetown Law and former National Legal Director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Craig & David discuss the legalities behind the actions of ICE, the constitutional rights of individuals who encounter ICE agents, the recent tragedies in Minnesota surrounding ICE agents and civilians, and the overall impact these actions are having on the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution.

He grew up in Barbados and moved to the United States of America as a young adult. Neville Goddard was perhaps the last century's most intellectually substantive and charismatic purveyor of the philosophy generally called New Thought. He wrote more than ten books under the solitary pen name Neville, and was a popular speaker on metaphysical themes from the late 1930s until his death in 1972.Possessed of a self-educated and uncommonly sharp intellect, Neville espoused a spiritual vision that was bold and total: Everything you see and experience, including other people, is the result of your own thoughts and emotional states. Each of us dreams into existence an infinitude of realities and outcomes. When you realize this, Neville taught, you will discover yourself to be a slumbering branch of the Creator clothed in human form, and at the helm of limitless possibilities.Neville's thought system influenced a wide range of spiritual thinkers and writers, from bestselling author Dr. Joseph Murphy to Rhonda Byrne and Wayne Dyer.He has inspired and continues to inspire millions of readers around the world.* * *SOCIALS:• Neville Goddard Newsletter• Neville Goddard Telegram• Neville Goddard Instagram• Neville Goddard Threads• Neville Goddard Twitter• Neville Goddard YouTube* * *ABOUT THE COURSEUnlock God Mode is a transformative 30-day course designed to accelerate your journey towards greater wealth, love, and success through a deeper understanding and manipulation of your reality. Daily Dose of Hope January 30, 2026 Scripture: I Corinthians 6 Prayer: Lord Jesus, We come before you this morning, thanking you for a new day. Lord, you are good and we rejoice in your holy and powerful name. As we begin our day, Lord, help us focus on you. Help us set aside our scattered thoughts and focus on your Word and what you want us to learn today. We get so distracted and self-consumed. Forgive us for that, Lord. In these next few moments of silence, help us have laser focus on your voice... In Your Powerful Name, Amen. Welcome back to the Daily Dose of Hope, the devotional and podcast that complements the daily Bible reading plan at New Hope Church in Brandon, Florida. We have been journeying through Paul's letters. Today, we are continuing through our fourth pastoral letter, I Corinthians. Today's reading is I Corinthians 6. Paul continues to press this issue: Jesus-followers should look different than the culture around them. Why were they allowing secular courts to decide issues that should have been worked out in the church? Why were they getting pulled into disputes that distracted them from the mission in the first place? And then Paul presents a list of wrongdoings which have no place in the church. He is imploring them, "You know better!" You've been washed by the blood of Jesus Christ. You are different now, new creations, so behave like it. The second half of the chapter is the discussion about sexual misconduct in the church. Some of the Christians in Corinth were saying they had been freed from the law and now could do whatever they wanted. Remember, this was a very sexualized society. People from the church were still having sex with prostitutes and they were saying it was no big deal. Afterall, they weren't living under the law. Paul says that you were freed from the Law to love God and love others. But the issue went deeper. The Corinthians were kind of like, "eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we may die." They thought that their bodies were temporary and eventually God would be doing away with them, so who cares if they have some casual sex? It's just biology, just our bodies, right? Not our souls. So, what's the big deal? Well, Paul tells them what the big deal is. The Corinthians believed in the immortality of the soul. But Christians believe in the resurrection of the body. Because the resurrection of the body is a core doctrine of the Christian faith, we take a very high view of the human body. Paul reminds them of this. The human body is sacred. God created you, God values you. We firmly believe that our soul and physical body are interconnected, we can't just separate the two so easily. This is what Paul is saying: You can't have sex with someone and not become one flesh with them. You can't separate body and soul. Sex is not just biology; there's something deeply spiritual about it. Souls are connecting with one another. I read this and it feels like Paul is in parent-mode. He is telling the Corinthians to remember who and whose they are! He even tells them he is ashamed of them. Two thousand years is a long time and yet people are still people. We aren't any better today; I do hope everyone realizes that. Yes, we think we are quite sophisticated. We think we are quite knowledgeable. But, just like the Corinthians, we still forget what it means to belong to Jesus. We still allow the values and temptations of the world to seep into our lives. How often we blend so neatly into the world around us. How often have you believed the same lies that the Corinthians believed? Blessings, Pastor Vicki
In this powerful message, Nehemiah 8:1–12 shows what happens when people hunger for Scripture and respond with open hearts. As the Law was read aloud and clearly explained, understanding brought conviction, renewal, and great joy. This teaching highlights the transforming power of God's Word when it is heard, received, and obeyed. This message will encourage you to return to the Word with fresh expectation and confidence that it is alive and active in your life. No matter your season, Scripture brings clarity, correction, strength, and joy. Lean in, listen closely, and respond in faith—because God's Word is working.
We pile so much on ourselves throughout our life and run so many filters at every moment of the day that it is very easy to lose sight of the truth, our true selves. This meditation is a variation on the Flow Writing ecersize, where you sit down to write, uninterrupted for a set time. The pen doesn't stop moving, no matter what. The variation is that we will do this as a pure though exersize. Using the prompt "what are you pretending not to know?" and just see where your mind takes you. One breath at a time.
The Parole Board has declined parole for convicted murderer Clayton Weatherston. The 50-year-old will remain behind bars until at least November 2027. Weatherston was an academic at Otago University and had been in a relationship with honours student Sophie Elliott. In 2008 Elliot was packing up her life to move to Wellington to take up a job at Treasury when Weatherston arrived at her home and stabbed her more than 200 times in a brutal attack. Weatherston appeared before the Parole Board this morning for the first time after serving an 18-year non-parole period. Reporter Timothy Brown attended the hearing and spoke to Lisa Owen.

Paul's letter to the Romans contains some of the most meaningful and thought provoking words in Scripture. It is extremely challenging to read it and embrace all its' points in our minds. Maybe, more than any other book in the Bible, this book calls for our diligent and meditative study. But this is the challenge of the whole Bible, it is not at all like a school text book that you go through in a year's study and then leave on the shelf for occasional reference. God's word is designed by him for our lifelong reading and reflection. Paul had been brought up under the Law of Moses with all its rules and regulations. He had been zealous for the Law, but, as a result of his dramatic conversion on the road to Damascus, he had, with God's help through the Spirit, applied his mind to the new reality of eternal things – especially – to a personal relationship to his Saviour. The Law of Moses was a Law for Israel as a nation. This Law had been superseded by a situation in which each individual needed to develop a personal relationship with their Saviour the Lord Jesus and with his Father – and through him – is now ‘Our Father.' Paul writes, “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing …” [8 v.18,19] This sense of eagerness is felt by all those who see the emptiness in so much of what people enjoy today: But it is all “creation” that waits for the removal of the curse imposed in Eden. We learn in Genesis how God said to Adam “cursed is the ground because of you” [Gen. 3 v.17] Paul goes on to say we “groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons (& daughters), the redemption of our bodies” [v.23] How true is the word eagerly – especially as we grow older and our minds and bodies feel the effects. Those who find this life satisfying and enjoyable will not genuinely “wait eagerly” for that which is going to replace it. But for many in the world this life offers little that is enjoyable – so they are often in a far more spiritually acceptable frame of mind before God. Finally, let us all read carefully and prayerfully the last 8 verses (31-39) of Romans ch 8.
In the Beatitudes, Jesus radically redefines what it means to be blessed. The world teaches us that blessing looks like success, strength, health, and having life under control. But when Jesus looks out over the crowd on the mountain, He sees the poor, the grieving, the weary, and the broken. And He calls them blessed. Not because their lives are working, but because the kingdom of heaven has come near to them. The Beatitudes sound wrong to us because they expose our hearts. By nature, we do not want to be poor in spirit, meek, or mourning. We want to justify ourselves, manage appearances, and prove our worth before God and others. As the prophet Micah reminds us, we often assume God wants religious performance. But the Lord desires humility, a people who walk honestly before Him, knowing who He is and who we are not. In this way, the Beatitudes function as God's Law. They reveal our spiritual poverty and collapse every attempt at self-made righteousness. They leave us with empty hands. Yet they also lead us directly to the Gospel. Jesus is the truly blessed One. He is poor in spirit, meek, merciful, and persecuted for righteousness' sake. He fulfills every Beatitude in His own life, death, and resurrection. And what He fulfills, He freely gives. The Beatitudes are not instructions for how to earn God's favor. They are promises describing what is already true for those who are in Christ. Even now, believers possess the kingdom of heaven. Even now, they are comforted with forgiveness and filled with Christ's righteousness, often hidden under weakness and the cross. This blessing becomes especially concrete at the Lord's Table. There, the poor in spirit come with nothing to offer and receive everything. Christ gives His true Body and Blood for the forgiveness of sins. Holy Communion is the Beatitudes made tangible, mercy placed on the tongue and peace given as a gift. Finally, the Beatitudes lift our eyes toward heaven, where all that is hidden will be revealed. Mourning will turn to joy. Hunger will give way to fullness. Suffering will be transformed into glory. Until that day, Christ continues to gather His Church, not to reward the strong, but to bless the needy with this sure promise. Yours is the kingdom of heaven. ----- Worship Times Sunday – 8:00 & 10:45 a.m. Monday – 6:30 p.m. https://trinitysheboygan.org https://facebook.com/trinitysheboygan We are a congregation of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. ☕ This week on Counsel Brew, we're joined by Vicki Blanton, Assistant VP and Senior Legal Counsel of Tax and Benefits at AT&T, Adjunct Professor at SMU Dedman School of Law, and immediate past President of the Dallas Bar Association. Vicki's career spans some of the most complex in-house environments in the country, touching approximately $150B in plan assets and impacting millions of employees, retirees, and beneficiaries worldwide. But what anchors this conversation isn't the scale of the work; it's how she thinks about responsibility, presence, and leadership over time. For Vicki, there isn't a single summit to reach. Every day is a peak, and each one asks something different of you.Over coffee, properly served, with intention, Vicki reflects on a formative childhood memory of sitting quietly with her grandparents in the early morning hours, listening as they talked and shared a cup together. That memory became her blueprint for connection. Coffee, like leadership, isn't about speed or efficiency; it's about attention, ritual, and making space. As she reflects on her time leading the Dallas Bar, Vicki talks about stewardship rather than accomplishment: guiding a large and diverse legal community through reemergence, honoring tradition while allowing it to evolve. Her approach—old school in a new way—shaped programming that emphasized connection and belonging, including reimagining a long-standing gathering into a more conversational, welcoming space. Our conversation feels fitting for the close of a chapter. And, of course, don't miss out on hearing about Vicki's longtime love of parades and her firsthand experience as a balloon handler in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. And yes—she's a fellow Mustang!

Donald Trump's dirty DOJ leadership is engaged in a shell game, a game of three-card monty, a game of misdirection designed to dupe the American people.DOJ's Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) is a component of the Department of Justice that issues advisory opinions regarding the legality or illegality of conduct by federal government officials, attorneys, law enforcement, and military operations. Historically, OLC has tried to do its work in good faith, and in accordance with the law and the Constitution. But that is not the case under the current corrupt DOJ leadership.OLC is now offering indefensible legal opinions - for example, trying to give top cover to the Trump administration when it unlawfully enters Venezuela and takes into custody its president and first lady. Indeed, virtually every respected military law expert recognizes that this was an illegal operation. The same is true for the unlawful, deadly strikes on small Venezuelan boats in international waters.OLC also rendered an opinion of how fake US attorney Lindsay Halligan could continue to sign official court documents as "United States Attorney" even though a federal judge had ruled that she was unlawfully and unconstitutionally in that position. But there's also supposed to be another safeguard against, in particular, DOJ attorney misconduct. The office of professional responsibility (OPR) is supposed to investigate allegations or suspected incidents of DOJ attorney misconduct and misconduct by law enforcement officers, like FBI agents. However, the head of OPR was wrongfully removed from the job months ago, and there is no indication that there even is a current, legitimate head of the OPR. This corrupt shell game that Trump's dirty DOJ leadership is playing - having OLC issue memos to give wrongdoers top cover, and then neutering OPR so that the attorneys who engage in misconduct will not be held accountable - is destroying the legitimacy of the DOJ.To those of us who spent decades serving the American people at the Department of Justice, we see exactly what they're doing. All of the American people also need to see this for what it is - abject corruption at the DOJ. Attorney, author and podcaster Dean Obeidallah joins the program to explain why Greg Bovino, Stephen Miller and Kristi Noem need to be prosecuted. Firing is meaningless—at least if you want to stop the reign of terror being waged by ICE, CBP and DHS agents. The only way to do that is to charge Bovino, Stephen Miller and Kristi Noem with crimes for violating Minnesota state law. Plus, of course, the agents who murdered Renee Good earlier in January and Alex Pretti must be prosecuted as well.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
John Jay vs. the Mob reveals why the rule of law is the foundation that keeps a republic from collapsing into chaos. When mobs decide which laws apply, liberty does not expand, it disappears. This episode of America's Founding Series tells the gripping story of John Jay, a Founding Father who understood that freedom is threatened not only by tyrants, but by organized mobs that reject the legitimacy of law itself. From the streets of 18th-century New York to the unrest unfolding today in Minnesota, this episode explores how mob rule, selective enforcement, and fear of public pressure endanger the Republic. John Jay's life offers a warning that is more relevant now than ever. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why John Jay believed unchecked mobs were just as dangerous as kings How the 1788 New York riot shaped Jay's understanding of liberty and order What the Federalist Papers reveal about restraining all forms of power Why selective law enforcement undermines constitutional government How modern unrest echoes the same threat Jay warned about centuries ago

Watch the YouTube version of this episode HEREAre you a law firm owner who needs advice on leading a team in a crisis? In this episode of the Maximum Lawyer Podcast, attorney and law firm owner Tiffany Webber shares the profound personal and professional impact of her law partner's sudden passing. She recounts the immediate aftermath, the challenges of leading her firm through crisis, and the lessons learned about resilience, leadership, and preparation. Tiffany shares her insights on leading a firm amidst losing a loved one. One thing is having the skill to be calm under pressure. You can't control when someone close to you passes, but you can control yourself and your reaction to something. As a lawyer, people come to you with answers, so it is important to know when to remain calm and collected. Another thing to have is a bias for action. Many people will sit back and analyze. They will wait to make a decision when they have received all the answers. But, in this field, you will never always have every piece of information. Sometimes, you need to make decisions in the moment with what you have.Having a good leadership team is crucial, especially when you as the owner have a lot of things on their plate. It's Thursday, January 29th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Evangelical college fired teacher for calling homosexual behavior sin A Christian teacher in England went to court last week to defend his religious freedom. Dr. Aaron Edwards worked at Cliff College in Derbyshire. Three years ago, the Evangelical college fired him after he called homosexuality a sin in a social media post. Edwards is now appealing a tribunal decision that upheld his dismissal with the help of the Christian Legal Centre. Andrea Williams, chief executive of the organization, said, "This case raises serious questions about freedom of religion, freedom of expression, and the lawful limits of institutional authority.” Referencing Acts 4:20, Edwards said he does not regret speaking the truth, saying, “As the apostles said before their accusers, ‘We cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.'” Euthanasia bill failed in French Senate A bill to legalize euthanasia failed in France's Senate last week. Political deadlock among lawmakers effectively killed the bill. Gregor Puppinck is the Director General of the European Centre for Law and Justice. He said, “This text was terrible. It allowed euthanasia and suicide by decision of a single doctor, at the oral request of a patient, in three days, without the relatives being informed and able to take legal action.” Canada euthanized elderly woman against her will Meanwhile, in Canada, an elderly woman was tragically euthanized against her will through the country's Medical Assistance in Dying program. This according to a report by the Office of the Chief Coroner. The report identified the 80-year-old woman as “Mrs. B.” She initially expressed interest in the program. But later, she wanted to withdraw her request, “citing personal and religious values and beliefs.” However, assessors with the euthanasia program approved the killing after her husband reported experiencing “caregiver burnout.” Proverbs 12:10 says, “The tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.” Canada backs off deal with China after Trump tariff threat Canada reached a preliminary agreement with China earlier this month to lower tariffs on certain goods. However, U.S. President Trump criticized the deal. He wrote on Truth Social, “If Canada makes a deal with China, it will immediately be hit with a 100% Tariff against all Canadian goods and products coming into the U.S.A.” In response, Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney backed off the agreement with China. Federal Reserve didn't change interest rate In the United States, the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged yesterday. The central bank decided to keep its key lending rate between 3.5 percent and 3.75 percent. The Fed noted, “Available indicators suggest that economic activity has been expanding at a solid pace. Job gains have remained low, and the unemployment rate has shown some signs of stabilization. Inflation remains somewhat elevated.” Fewer U.S. pastors leaving ministry A new survey from the Barna Group found fewer pastors are considering walking away from the ministry. Twenty-four percent of U.S. senior Protestant pastors say they have seriously considered leaving full-time ministry within the past year. That's down from 42 percent in 2022. Pastoral burnout heightened during the COVID-19 pandemic but has been stabilizing since then. The report noted, “Fewer pastors appear to be in immediate vocational crisis, even as many continue to carry fatigue, grief, and uncertainty about the future of ministry.” Today is birthday of Martin Luther's wife And finally, today marks the birthday of Katharina Von Bora, the wife of Martin Luther. She was born on January 29, 1499. Her mother died in childhood and she was sent to a Catholic boarding school before becoming a nun. At the convent, Katharina discovered the writings of Martin Luther. Along with other nuns, she learned about salvation by grace through faith in Christ. This led Katharina and the nuns to ask Luther for help to escape the convent. Luther was able to help the nuns find husbands and jobs, except for Katharina. The two were eventually married. Together, they had six children. Author Michelle DeRusha described Katharina as “a woman who risked marrying one of the most controversial men of the time – a man who could have very likely been burned as a heretic at any given moment. She was a woman who raised six children; ran a boardinghouse; oversaw a farm complete with fruit orchards, livestock, and a fishpond; and advised and cared for her husband.” Consider an excellent, full-color, beautifully illustrated children's book about her entitled Katharine von Bora: The Morning Star of Wittenberg. It is co-authored by Shanna and Jenna Strackbein, twin sisters who were homeschooled in Aransas Pass, Texas, by their beloved mother Jenny. Joel Beeke, President of Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan said, "Boys and girls (and adults too) will love this beautiful book about a godly woman who helped to change the world." Law school prepares students to think like lawyers, but it often leaves them without a clear picture of what comes next. Zack Glaser sits down with Jocelyn Hardrick to explore how mentorship, pipeline programs, and practical guidance can help first-generation and nontraditional students bridge the gap between legal education and real-world practice. They unpack the challenges students face when they lack exposure to legal careers, the importance of writing and bar preparation support, and how community and accountability shape confidence during the transition into the profession. The episode highlights how intentional mentorship and community support can reduce uncertainty, build confidence, and create clearer pathways into the legal profession. https://wels2.blob.core.windows.net/daily-devotions/20260129dev.mp3 Listen to Devotion The darkness is passing and the true light is already shining. Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light. 1 John 2:8-10 Walking in the Light Anyone who has spent too long cooped up in one place knows what cabin fever feels like. At first, it’s comfortable, safe, familiar, and predictable. But slowly, irritation creeps in. Small things start to bother us. Our patience shortens. Our perspective narrows. The walls begin to feel closer. What once felt like shelter starts to feel like confinement. Spiritually, cabin fever can happen, too. When people remain inward-focused and demonstrate by their attitudes and actions that they love themselves more than others, darkness closes in. Our hearts become disconnected from loving relationships with God and with others. That is what the apostle John addresses in our Bible reading when he says, “Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness.” The best way to overcome cabin fever is to step out of your place of confinement, breathe in the fresh air again, and, best of all, go where the sun is shining. John reminds us that the true light is already shining. The Son of God, Jesus Christ, continues to shine the light of God’s mercy and forgiveness into our darkened hearts. The good news that Jesus died for our sins and rose from the dead in victory, enlightens our hearts to believe that God's love for us will overcome the darkness of evil. In the end, spiritual cabin fever fades when we remember that life in Christ was never meant to be lived in isolation or fear. His love replaces our impatience with peace. His Word and promise of life with him forever, replaces our weariness with renewed purpose—to love one another as Christ loved us. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light. Where Christ-like love is practiced, the darkness lifts, the cabin fever fades, and life opens up again. Prayer: Gracious Savior, you are the true Light shining in the darkness. Drive hatred and bitterness from my heart. Fill me with your mercy so that my life reflects your love to others. Amen. Daily Devotions is brought to you by WELS. Looking for more content www.thereadinesslab.com/dtp-links In this episode, we take listeners to the eye of two converging storms shaping national headlines: a major winter snowstorm sweeping across the United States and a political crisis unfolding in Minneapolis around federal immigration enforcement. Across the country, a powerful winter storm has brought heavy snow, ice, extreme cold, and deadly conditions to millions of Americans, with blizzard conditions, power outages, and dangerous travel reported from the Plains to the Northeast. At the same time, Minneapolis has become ground zero in a heated debate over federal immigration policy and law enforcement tactics. The city has seen federal Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations under Operation Metro Surge, which have included the fatal shooting of Minneapolis resident Alex Pretti and earlier fatal use of force in the city. Listeners will hear analysis of how these dual crises — the literal storm and the political storm — intersect and what they mean for civic leadership, public safety, and the national conversation on disaster management.Whether you're a resident of Minneapolis, a crisis leader, or someone trying to make sense of fast-moving national events in 2026, this episode connects the dots between weather chaos and political turbulence.
