Learn how accurate attribution tracking transforms marketing results Look, let's face it - guesswork is the cancer of all business. As I always tell my clients at Predictable Profits, you need to eliminate that guesswork with proper data. That's why I invited Michael Cooney, co-founder of WhatConverts, onto the podcast. I've had multiple agency clients rave about this tool that's helping them generate better results and higher ROAS for their clients. We dive deep into why native conversion pixels from Meta or Google fall short, how to properly value different types of leads, and why understanding the complete customer journey is critical for making smart marketing decisions. My guest today, Michael Cooney, built WhatConverts after running his own agency for over 20 years. He experienced firsthand the frustration of trying to prove marketing ROI to skeptical clients who couldn't see the full picture. When a client once said to him, "These leads seem like they're from existing customers, not marketing," Michael realized he needed a better solution - a truth-seeking tool that would reveal exactly which marketing efforts were driving valuable conversions. That's when WhatConverts was born, and it's now tracking over 4 million leads per month across industries. KEY TAKEAWAYS: The limitations of standard conversion tracking How dynamic number insertion works The complexity of modern buyer journeys Issues with standard cookie windows The importance of data-driven decision making WhatConverts' six-step process Proper troubleshooting for underperforming campaigns Value-based pricing for marketers Links: LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelcooney/ Twitter:https://twitter.com/mc_cooney Email:michael.cooney@whatconverts.com Company Website:https://www.whatconverts.com/ Growing your business is hard, but it doesn't have to be. Originally titled Shelter and produced independently in 2010 with Swedish filmmakers Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein co-directing, the Julianne Moore starring Six Souls, written by Identity's Michael Cooney, was eventually purchased by the Weinstein Company under their Radius banner. But the Weinsteins were in the midst of serious financial woes in 2010 after the failure of Nine and many of their acquisitions ended up in distribution turnaround. Six Souls would eventually come out in 2013 as a day and date VOD and theatrical release. It got very little attention and seemed a strange detour on Moore's otherwise stellar career path. Dan and Vicky discuss the forgotten supernatural thriller along with some recently seen gems like Heart Eyes, My Dead Friend Zoe, Love Hurts, Anora, Emilia Perez, Love Me, and Peacock's Traitors. It's the holiday season and our tradition continues. This year our Christmas movie was picked by Austin. We cover the history of the killer snowman movie with the iconic VHS box art and the people who made it. Find out how close this was to being a very different film!
This week on Friday Night Frightfest, we're indulging in some delightfully cheesy holiday horror with two B-movie classics: Jack Frost (1997) and The Gingerdead Man (2005). Jack Frost (1997) Directed by Michael Cooney, Jack Frost tells the tale of a serial killer who is horrifically transformed into a monstrous snowman after a freak accident involving chemicals. Now, this icy avenger seeks revenge on the small town that wronged him. The Gingerdead Man (2005) Directed by Charles Band, The Gingerdead Man introduces us to a homicidal gingerbread man created by a convicted serial killer as a means of escaping prison. This deliciously evil cookie embarks on a killing spree, leaving a trail of gingerbread crumbs and terrified victims in his wake. Join us as we dissect these delightfully absurd and over-the-top holiday horrors. We'll be discussing their campy charm, ridiculous special effects, and enduring place in the pantheon of cheesy B-movie classics. Spoilers start around 4:00.
Jack is BACK for Just Play It. Upon Nick's confusion from last year of which late 90s Jack Frost movie we were watching, it's official - the chiller killer's time has come. We discuss Michael Cooney's wacky, campy Christmas killer snowman movie after a first watch. It flopped with critics, went straight to video, and is giving us the holiday fear almost 30 years later. The only question is, you like your carrots shaved or raw? Thanks for tuning in. For more, follow us on Instagram & YouTube @justplayitpodcast & X (fka Twitter) @justplayitpod

He's got a heart as cold ice! Join BP, Coop and Justin as we discuss Jack Frost, the 1997 American direct-to-video black comedy slasher film written and directed by Michael Cooney. It takes place in the fictional town of Snowmonton, where (on the week before Christmas) a truck carrying serial killer Jack Frost (Scott MacDonald) to his execution crashes into a genetics truck. The genetic material causes Jack's body to mutate and fuse with the snow on the ground. Jack is presumed dead and his body melts away. However, he comes back as a killer snowman and takes revenge on the man who finally caught him, Sheriff Sam Tiler (Christopher Allport). Despite being critically panned, the film has developed a cult following for its comical death scenes and poor special effects, and was followed by a sequel in 2000, Jack Frost 2: Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman. Jack Frost also marked the film debut of Shannon Elizabeth. "The Gospel of Jack Frost." You won't catch Matthew and Quinton humbugging around! We're full of the holiday spirit as much as snowmen are filled with the souls of the dead. For the first part of our Jack Frost special, we're looking at the 1997 cult slasher in which a chance accident, gallons of experimental acid, and a murderer on his way to execution combine for an essential 90s comedy horror. The episode covers a lot, as always, and this week we take on early versions of the Frost narrative, environmentalism in the 1990s, how to make a nonexistent budget work in your favor, and how Michael Cooney's is part of a discourse that also features, Toy Story, RoboCop, Small Soldiers, and Terminator. There's no cooler straight-to-home video in all of Snowmonton. So grab some hot cocoa, put away the hair dryers, and soul-search while we snow surf(what does that even mean?)

Identity is a 2003 American ensemble neo-noir slasher film directed by James Mangold from a screenplay by Michael Cooney and Mangold, who both derived from Cooney's original story. The film stars John Cusack, Ray Liotta, Amanda Peet, Alfred Molina, Clea DuVall and Rebecca De Mornay. Loosely based on Agatha Christie's 1939 whodunit And Then There Were None, the film follows ten strangers in an isolated hotel, who are temporarily cut off from the rest of the world, and are mysteriously killed off one by one. Several events which take place in the hours before the characters' arrival are introduced at key moments in the film using reverse chronology structure, and in a parallel story, a murderer awaits a verdict at a crucial trial that will determine whether he will be executed for his crimes. Hello and welcome to another B Bin Christmas Episode! On this week's episode we talk about the 1997 Horror/Comedy, Jack Frost. Jack Frost was written and directed by Michael Cooney. The movie stars Shannon Elizabeth (in her debut film), Scott MacDonald, Christopher Allport and a bunch of others but I don't feel like typing them all out. Not only do we talk about our favorite moments of this film but we also discuss who would win a fight to the death between Jack Frost, Michael Keaton's Jack Frost with some of the Batman skills and Frosty the Snowman on heavy amounts of meth. We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did. If you aren't already please follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter @bbinhorror. You can also send us emails at bbinhorror@gmail.com
Did we happen upon a snowy diamond in the rough? Did the holiday spirit take over and deliver us a wonderfully wrapped gift with a nice bow on top? Somewhat strange to say, but the answer is YES! Why is that strange to say? Well for starters, “Jack Frost” is incredibly dumb and stupid, and yet somehow manages to be extremely funny, irreverent, well-executed, *smart* dumb fun. Ryan and Tim both gave it a “rent” and had heaps of things to dismember. Just don't mistake this for the Michael Keaton flick! All of our films, save Lauren's birthday pick, are set in a wintry backdrop filled with monsters, mayhem, and gore galore for the holiday season. For E41, we went straight camp and watched a film about a man looking for a second chance. And no, not the family-friendly joint staring Michael Keaton. We are talking about Jack the Killer Snowman! This is less a crit and more a commentary on Michael Cooney's Jack Frost, so sit back, grab a hot chocolate, and enjoy the sleigh ride.Timestamps:0.00 - "Danita, it's Christmas!"7.57 - Theme song/opening11.40 - Negronomicon (Thanksgiving, Cowboy Bebop live action remake, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Epix's From)35.50 - Crit/commentary of Jack Frost1.17.17 - ClosingFind Us Online - Website: www.scarycritpodcast.com- Twitter: http://twitter.com/scarycritpodcast- Instagram: http://instagram.com/scarycritpodcastCredits- Host and Producer: Lauren La Melle Instagram: @laurenlamelle | Twitter: @laurenlamelle | Website: www.laurenlamelle.com- Host and Editor: Jared Hudson Instagram: @blossomsandbooks93 | Twitter: @jareddhudson Gems from E41High School Musical (2006)The Muppets Christmas Carol (1992)Sailor Moon (1992)Whoopi Goldberg: Direct from Broadway (1985)Cowboy Bebop (2021)Cowboy Bebop (1998)The Last Airbender (2010)Law & Order: SVU (1999)Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)Annabelle: Creation (2017)Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (2011)R.L. Modelled on Odysseus's encounter with the eaters of the narcotic lotus flower, this episode explores how people lose themselves. With Maud Ellmann, professor at the University of Chicago, Ato Quayson, professor at Stanford University, and Michael Cooney, public relations officer at a plaintiff and labor law firm, we talk about whether Bloom finds himself again. We think about Ulysses as a map of the world as we range from the streets of Dublin to Accra, Ghana, and to Melbourne, Australia.
Identity was James Mangold's first opportunity to direct a film based on a script he didn't write. The screenplay, written by Michael Cooney, was inspired by Agatha Christie's “And Then There Were None,” but adds some twists to the story that take it in a new direction. Mangold was immediately attracted to the material because he relished the opportunity to tell what is essentially a closed room mystery. The film is taut and a thrill of a ride, but it certainly became a love it or hate it type of movie because of the big twists it takes. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we wrap up our brief ‘Spoiled. Rotten? Twist Endings' series with Mangold's 2003 film Identity. Here's a hint at what we talk about. The twists in this film work for us, but why don't they work for so many others? Do you just have to buy into the bonkers made-up science presented here for it to succeed? The cast is great, but why does Pete have such an issue with Clea Duvall's and William Lee Scott's characters? We totally forget to talk about Pruitt Taylor Vince's fantastically creepy eyes. Turns out it's a condition called nystagmus and he's used it as often as he can to be cast or to enhance his roles. Do the plot threads with no payoffs create problems for us, particularly when the story begins pointing at the supernatural? This film's a great reminder as to why we love John Hawkes so much. And the fact that it's a fun film Mangold provides for us that doesn't take itself seriously and really goes all-in on the crazy world set up. We have a great time talking about it as our season wrap-up. Check it out then tune in! The Next Reel – when the movie ends, our conversation begins! Ever wonder where the Grateful Dead learned their songs? This is episode 10 of Caffe Lena: 60 Years of Song. Thank you to Sarah at the Caffe for compiling the list of artists and songs. Michael Cooney had traveled the country , and knew how to play almost any song. He became a popular draw at a particular Palo Alto club in 1963. It was there he met a high school band, teaching them the songs they’d eventually be known for playing as the Grateful Dead. The lure of the "Mystic East" was irresistible, and in 1964 Michael went to New York, then Boston. Michael learned his music from hundreds of people, well-known and unknown. He credits Pete Seeger and Sam Hinton for his interest in traditional folk music and the history behind the songs. Michael has been helping others to experience the beauty, power and humor of old and new songs for over 50 years, in countless halls, clubs, coffeehouses, etc., in the US, Canada, Mexico, Great Britain and Europe. In 1969, one of his stops was the
Merry Christmas! Join us as we discuss Michael Cooney's cult classic/garbage fire, Jack Frost!
There must’ve been some magic in that old top hat we found because ’tis the season and we’ve got a long one talking about Michael Cooney’s killer snowman flick JACK FROST!!!! When a truck filled with genetic engineering goo crashes into a truck transporting titular serial killer Jack Frost played by Scott MacDonald and turns him into an immortal snowman it’s up to Christopher Allport’s Snomonton(ugh) Sheriff Sam Tiler to save the day. Also in the picture are Sam’s dumbass son who tries to poison him with antifreeze, Shannon Elizabeth in her screen debut, and FBI agent with the most orange eyebrows and a classic mad scientist! It’s largely enjoyable but Christopher had some thoughts about some of the seedier aspects of the film. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

In today’s episode, we speak with Michael Cooney, Co-founder of WhatCoverts. In this detailed interview, we discuss the current status of lead generation and tracking. We start off with one of the most common questions from business owners - "Where are my leads coming from?", and move into the features of WhatCoverts and describe how it can improve insights into your business and create confidence in your marketing efforts. SPECIAL OFFER: Go to www.WhatConverts.com/try30 Segment 1: Let’s discuss what must be the most common question in marketing...Where are our leads coming from?! Why is that question is so hard to answer? Google Analytics shows conversions which is helpful, but we can’t see the individual leads so it is very difficult to tie sales results to specific leads. Results from phone calls are completed invisible to business owners as well. Segment 2: How do we answer this question with confidence? Michael commented that he hates saying “I don’t know”, and that drove him to say this: “I really need this tool that can capture all leads, tie it back to the marketing, keep a record of all those leads, and then give me reporting of the results of all the marketing. What I need is a system that I can capture the information from any website and any form in under 1 minute.“ Segment 3: How does WhatConverts deal with these issues? WhatCoverts swaps the phone number on the site dynamically. When a call is made we capture the call recording, we capture the caller record from the phone company, we capture all the marketing data, and we store all of this for that lead. Call Tracking: 30% to 75% of website visitors use the phone to make contact. Tracking phone calls and the marketing responsible is really easy with WhatConverts. Here is a list of some of the key features of WhatCoverts: Dynamic phone numbers - Automatically track marketing to a phone call with Dynamic Number Insertion (DNI). DNI may be a new concept if you are new to website call tracking. Some think it’s magic because it works so well; we also think it is magical. When you buy a tracking phone number in WhatConverts, we ask what number you want us to swap out on your website. Our script then finds all versions of the swap numbers and, when triggered, our software swaps the number on your website with a tracking number that allows us to track your marketing data including the caller’s source, medium, campaign, keyword, lead page and landing page. Offline: Offline call tracking allows you to track the success of your offline marketing materials. Having offline tracking numbers takes the guesswork out of determining the ROI on printed materials, television and radio advertising and more. Marketing Source Tracking with Dynamic Number Insertion. Using Dynamic Number Insertion for All Traffic gives you the insight to track how your leads arrive and find your site (such as Google Organic, Facebook Referral, Bing CPC and more). This information allows you to determine the strengths and weaknesses of your marketing plan. Keyword Level Tracking with Dynamic Number Insertion. Using Dynamic Number Insertion along with your pay-per-click (PPC) campaigns gives you the opportunity to track what bidded keyword was used to trigger your ad and resulted in a phone call. Call Tracking - There are three main options when implementing your call tracking. Each option works in a slightly different way. Call Flows - Streamline the call process but more importantly help apply tags to leads such as “new patient”, “existing patient”, etc. Call recording - WhatConverts gives you the ability to control, download and monitor your incoming calls at no additional cost with Call Recording. Being able to listen to your calls lets you review the incoming calls, determine if a lead is qualified, monitor your sales team and more.WhatConverts’ Call Recording feature allows you to choose which of your phone numbers record calls and lets you listen to them all from your main dashboard. Segment 4: Lead follow-through “So much good marketing is killed by bad sales” Have you ever heard from Sales that the leads are junk? Link Segment 5: Michael’s Pro Tips Call Tracking: 30% to 75% of website visitors use the phone to make contact. Tracking phone calls and the marketing responsible is really easy with WhatConverts. Understand the value you are providing as a marketer, business owner, or agency partner. Look at the lifetime value of your customer. Customer lifetime value is the metric that indicates the total revenue a business can reasonably expect from a single customer account. It considers a customer's revenue value and compares that number to the company's predicted customer lifespan. Businesses use this metric to identify significant customer segments that are the most valuable to the company. HubSpot Ensure that marketing reports are accurate and easy to read. Don’t focus on ‘vanity metrics’ such as clicks, impressions, etc.. Those metrics are important but don’t mean much to a business owner. So be leads focused instead. Test campaigns with WhatCoverts reporting. Michael tells a very compelling and insightful story about an industrial company that invested $18,000 to advertise in an industry directory. 75% of the leads were salespeople pitching them, not customers! Hailing from North Andover, MA Matty Bailey got his start in the industry as a line cook. He would go on to Columbus Hospitality Group and Garrett Harker's family of restaurants. It was at Row 34 where Matty met his to be partner, Kristopher Crowell, and realized something in the draught systems world had to change. In 2016 Modern Draught was born. Show notes… Favorite success quote or mantra: "Perfect will do just fine." In this episode with Matty Bailey, we discuss: How individuals with dyslexia seem to excel in the restaurant industry and why that may be. How the customer is not always right. As far back as he can remember, Michael Cooney has always enjoyed being around small business owners. Growing up in a big Irish family, Cooney was no stranger to good food either, as there was plenty of home cooking. Cooney wouldn't REALLY understand food until he moved to California, where he worked for the Malibu Group. Cooney would return to Boston and work for Public House and Sorriso. It was at Sorriso where Cooney met future business partner, John Paine and the dreaming commenced. By 2014 Brewers Fork, located in Charlestown, MA, was founded and the team has been receiving nothing but praise ever since. On the eve of the visit to Australia by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Lowy Institute held an event on the issue of the republic and Australia’s place in the world. Constitutional monarchist Julian Leeser MP, Federal Member for Berowra, and Michael Cooney, National Director of the Australian Republic Movement, joined Alex Oliver, Lowy Institute Director of Research, for a panel discussion on whether Australia’s status as a constitutional monarchy affects the way the world see us – and how we see ourselves.
Episode 97
Harry tells us about the importance of marshmallows through history. Michael Cooney sings a great song by Peter Berryman called "Vegetables," one of Steve's favorites. Steve and Harry sing a song about their cat, one mean son of a gun.
Last year, SubjectACT's Nathan Gubler spoke with the newly-minted National Director of the Australian Republic Movement, Michael Cooney, about all things republic. So with the Commonwealth Games underway on the Gold Coast, and the Prince of Wales on tour in the Land Down Under, it is an opportune moment to revisit the issue of the Australian Republic. Dr Benjamin T. Jones is Research Fellow in the School of History at the Australian National University and a regular commentator on the ABC and The Conversation. He is also an ardent republican, and author of the recently released republican call-to-arms, This Time: Australia's Republican Past and Future. It is a short, pithy read, blazing through Australia's long history of republican agitation, as well as throwing some suggestions out into the marketplace of ideas - things such as the title of the Head of State, what the flag should look like, and how a Head of State should be selected. This conversation covers the Commonwealth Games, Prince Charles' recent visit, the '99 Referendum as well as the recent commentary on how republicans should respond to the Uluru Statement from the Heart. You can find Dr Benjamin T. Jones at http://benjaminthomasjones.com/ as well as on Facebook and Twitter. The book is published by Black Inc. and is available online at all good bookstores. The holidays are upon us and the Rowdy Boys are celebrating the only way they know how: rancid eggnog shots and bargain bin presents! This Christmas we put it to our listeners and they chose the 1997 Michael Cooney fantasy classic Jack Frost. Along the way we learn that humor is selective, we get an episode of "Sittin With It", we talk turtlenecks, superbarns, someone becomes an amaretto millionaire, but mostly we just wanna play Lear.
We discuss Christmas slasher 'Jack Frost.'The film is Directed by Michael Cooney and stars Scott MacDonald, Christopher Allport, Stephen Mendel and Shannon Elizabeth.
Conveniently-named serial killer. Brutal ornament death. Molecular structure talk. Shannon Elizabeth. Jack Frost is the 1997 mutant snowman slasher from writer/director Micahel Cooney. This movie will always be hilariously and mistakenly tied to the 1998 family movie of the same name starring Michael Newton. Jack Frost was originally slated to have a $30 million budget and have Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger) direct. Instead of going the big budget route the movie was handed over to writer Michael Cooney to direct and given a much smaller budget and a straight-to-video release. Jack Frost revolves around the titular serial killer who when being transported to execution comes in contact with a secret government compound and merges his DNA with snow. After that ridiculousness, Jack Frost heads to the small town of Snowmonton to seek revenge on the lowly sheriff that ended up arresting him. Jack terrorizes the small town killing its citizens in s variety of creative and brutal ways. Join the TPM crew as they debate the best inanimate material to merge your DNA with for either laziness or to kill. Once the snowball is rolling the TPM hosts and unsuspecting victims turn up the heat on bad-movie classic 'Jack Frost'. Show Segments: Debate Topic (03:22): Best inanimate material to merge DNA with? Movie Review (15:19): Jack Frost (1997) What Would You Do Differently? Malcolm Turnbull, perhaps Australia's best-known republican, declared himself “an Elizabethan” during his recent visit to London. Turnbull insists the quest for an Australian republic is on the backburner until Queen Elizabeth's reign ends. But Bill Shorten is pushing for an earlier timetable, as is the Australian Republic Movement (ARM). The ARM's national director, Michael Cooney, argues that becoming a republic would give Australians, who are facing a political system that is breaking if not broken, important new symbols of national unity. The road to a possible Australian republic has steep obstacles. One is getting an appropriate model. Cooney admits that even within the ARM there are differences over whether the president of an Australian republic should be directly elected or chosen by parliament. Another challenge is that the younger royals have given the Crown a rather more modern image. But Cooney is confident that when it comes to making decisions about Australia's head of state, the public will make judgements on the substance. “Australians know the difference between celebrities and the Constitution,” he says.
Michael Cooney is a folksinger from Maine. He performs "I'm My Own Grandpa." Hank Neimark is a banjo player from Woodstock, NY. He performs a new version of "Old Joe Clark" with Steve. Plus, Harry has joined the Poetical Party. Don't ask.
Do Canberrans support an Australian republic? And just how active are Canberrans around this issue? SubjectACT's Nathan Gubler sat down with Michael Cooney, National Director of the Australian Republic Movement, to talk about this and more, including flaws in our current monarchical arrangement, how the President of Australia might be elected and what powers they might enjoy, as well as a bit of reflection on the 1999 republic referendum. To learn more about the Australian Republic Movement, you can find their main website at republic.org.au or find them on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. This program was aired on 17th July, 2017. As the election campaign reaches the end of its second week, political editor Lenore Taylor and deputy political editor Katharine Murphy discuss the tension between the Greens and Labor with Ben Oquist from the Australia Institute and Michael Cooney from the Chifley Research Centre
This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of one of Australia’s best-remembered foreign policy speeches – Opposition Leader Arthur Calwell’s 1965 parliamentary statement of opposition to Australia’s participation in the Vietnam war. In honour of this anniversary the Lowy Institute for International Policy hosted Graham Freudenberg AM, the principal author of Calwell's speech, for a discussion on the role of foreign policy speeches, and how that role has changed in the last half-century. Mr Freudenberg is the dean of Australian speechwriters, having worked for no fewer than six Labor leaders and written many of Australia’s most celebrated political speeches. He has also authored a number of books including Churchill and Australia (2008) and his memoir, A Figure of Speech (2005). Joining Mr Freudenberg on the panel was Michael Cooney, speechwriter to Prime Minister Julia Gillard and author of The Gillard Project (2015).
Michael Cooney was Julia Gillard's speechwriter for most of her time in office. He came to the job a true believer in every sense, with years of Labor experience behind him, including Policy Director to Federal Labor leaders Kim Beazley and Mark Latham. But this was the prime minister's office. The stakes were high and the game had changed. From mining to the economy to Afghanistan, Cooney wrote the speeches that helped to define the Gillard project: the prime minister's program and vision for the country. He was there at the coalface of decisions on the carbon 'tax' and the budget surplus; in the lead-up to the 'misogyny' speech and the 'we are us' Labor conference speech. He cried and laughed and swore as Australia's first female prime minister got through a record number of pieces of legislation in the time she had. This is his story, and hers.
