‘Hymns in Blood' is an English translation of a Punjabi novel ‘Khoon de Sohile' by legendary Punjabi author Nanak Singh, first published in February 1948, and now translated for the first time into English by his grand son Navdeep Suri, a former diplomat who has served in India's diplomatic missions in Washington DC and London. He was also India's ambassador to Egypt and the UAE. Navdeep Suri in conversation with broadcaster Achala Sharma says dealing with the trauma of partition of India in 1947, the novel provides a message of healing that is as relevant today in the context of Hindu-Muslim communalism as it was 75 years ago and provides a timely reminder of the grief and trauma that a religious divide brings in its wake. The novel tells the story based in 1947, Chakri, an idyllic village on the banks of the Soan near Rawalpindi, surrounded by stalks of golden wheat and festive songs. Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs eagerly await the end of winter and get together to prepare for Lohri.Amidst this joyous bustle, Baba Bhana, the erudite village elder, worries about the future of his foster daughter, Naseem. Life comes to a halt when news of a possible partition of India reaches the village. Amid a frenzy of communal violence, Baba Bhana and his family must reluctantly leave their beloved village. They embark on a long and dangerous journey, slowly coming to terms with the fact that their lives may be changing forever. The novel ‘Hymns In Blood' written by Nanak Singh of ‘Pavitra Papi' and ‘Khooni Vaisakhi' fame, translated from the Punjabi by Navdeep Suri has been published by Harper Collins India in 2022.

We have an enlightening and informative podcast this week as we host a discussion about the global textile industry with Navdeep Sodhi, a partner with the Gherzi Textil Organisation, the well-known Zurich-based global textile and apparel consulting firm. He has worked in the textile industry for many years, and is a leading expert on cotton, textiles, and made-up products like apparel. He's also an expert in economic analysis, market research, and strategic planning. During our fascinating discussion, Mr. Sodhi expressed his outlook for the textile and apparel industry in the future, while also discussing the impact the pandemic has had on accelerating change. He believes inflation will be a short-to-medium term problem for the industry. Also he outlines other economic factors directly affecting the industry today and tomorrow — including the digitalization of supply chains. This is an important program for anyone in the fiber, textile and apparel supply chain. Hosted by Jennifer Crumpler, Fiber Development Manager and Manager of the e3 Sustainable Cotton Program from BASF, and interviewed by industry consultant Bob Antoshak.

Not an easy task, that one, but we think we found a few who'd slot right in without changing too much about their personality or style! Next up, a nice summery question from Navdeep, who challenges us to pick five Corrie couples who we'd invite round for a barbecue. Lots of factors to consider there including dietary requirements, entertainment value and who we think we'd get on with - can you guess who we might have decided on?

Pricing ethics isn’t as discussed as it should be in the world of sports. Navdeep Sodhi, who has worked for Northwest Airlines in analyzing pricing, talks about some of the ways that sports franchises may not be as ethical in their dynamic ticket pricing structures and variables. Sodhi talks about pricing psychology, both when it comes to how the West, as well as China, react to different price models. This is a very good discussion in a time where teams may not be considering the long-term affects of their pricing decisions on both the customer and the marketplace as a whole.
