On Episode 121 I speak with Gia Prism. Gia is a trance medium, one through whom Spirit speaks. As a psychic medium and an inter-dimensional channel, Gia is a portal to the other side, opening the door that separates the worlds and facilitating a dialogue between the living and all that lies beyond. She uses her abilities as a teacher, healer, and channel to help audiences heal and walk the path of ascension through live events and on TikTok, where she speaks on the spiritual aspect of current events. I only just started following Gia back in like February or so as she was regularly speaking on national politics through a spiritual perspective which I found comforting and affirming. We had an interesting conversation about her early years being raised in a Mormon home and being diagnosed with mental illness while not realizing her psychic gifts. She woke up to her gifts over 15 years ago and now is a gifted trance channeler, unapologetic about the messages Spirit gives her. I appreciate her gifts and was grateful for her time. :)  To learn more about me (Karen) and the work that I do, go to rebalancewithreiki.com - if you are local to Northern NJ and you'd like to check out my store front you can visit my page moonmagicwellness.com. Matt Walker MA, is a dedicated men's psychologist and international mountain guide based in Washington, USA. With a mission to help men navigate mid-life challenges, Matt empowers his clients to define success, align their values with actions, and live unapologetically. Through 1:1 coaching, group programs, immersive retreats, and transformative climbing expeditions, Matt creates opportunities for growth, adventure, and community. His work is rooted in fostering clarity, boldness, and a life lived in alignment with personal values. Matt lives in a mountain town in Washington State with his two children and balances parenting with a full workload which includes coaching individual and groups, leading climbing expeditions both professionally and personally Matt Walker Vroom Vroom Veer Show Summary Matt's Balancing Act and Life Shifts Matt discusses his work as both a mountain guide and a psychologist, supporting men through major life transitions. He is excited about the balance in his calendar between traditional coaching and field work in the mountains. Matt mentions he has a new book coming out after a 10-year publishing hiatus. He also reflects on how his values and priorities have shifted with age, emphasizing the importance of embracing these changes rather than judging oneself based on past expectations. Skepticism and the Shaping of Belief Matt and Jeffery discuss their approaches to knowledge and belief. Jeffery describes himself as highly skeptical, avoiding absolute certainty and viewing most things on a spectrum of probability. Matt agrees with this perspective, sharing an example from a memoir that acknowledged multiple viewpoints of the same experience. They discuss the unreliability of memory and the impact of mentors and teachers in shaping their worldviews. Matt reflects on how early influences expanded his understanding of career possibilities beyond his suburban upbringing. Mountain Climbing and Post-Military Life Matt shares his experience of moving from Northern New Jersey to Washington State after high school, motivated by his desire to be in the mountains following an Outward Bound course. He became involved in the climbing community, joining a group of experienced climbers and participating in significant expeditions. Matt later pursued a degree in philosophy but ultimately worked as a full-time mountain guide, leading international expeditions including the Seven Summits. Jeffery, in contrast, completed a bachelor's degree in psychology using his GI Bill after retiring from the Air Force, but chose not to pursue a career in that field. Matt's Approach to Existential Crises Matt discusses his approach to helping clients who are experiencing existential crises. He explains that he combines his background in psychology with outdoor experiences, particularly mountain climbing, to create a more effective therapeutic environment. Matt emphasizes the importance of having a guide during these experiences, comparing it to psychedelic journeys with proper set and setting. He notes that the most powerful moments for clarity and transformation occur during the descent from a summit, before transitioning back to everyday life. Matt sees his role as a supportive guide rather than actively doing the work for his clients. Challenging Experiences and Personal Growth Matt and Jeffery discuss the transformative power of challenging experiences, particularly in the context of personal growth and self-awareness. They explore how these experiences can lead to clarity, alignment between values and actions, and a sense of awakening. Jeffery shares his recent experience with a meditation app called "Way App," which he finds more effective than typical meditation apps due to its foundation in authentic Zen practices. They both agree that consistent, thoughtful practice can lead to gradual but meaningful increases in awareness and personal growth.

Today's featured poet is Ibe Liebenberg (0:03:51) who joins Ann Wallace to talk about his new collection, Birds at Night, published in 2025 by Texas Tech University Press. Ibe is a member of the Chickasaw nation, as well as a firefighter from Paradise, California. With wildfires causing increasing destruction across the nation in recent years, we have wanted to speak with a firefighter on The WildStory—and this conversation with Ibe does not disappoint. It is a reflective one, highlighting the intertwining threads—of land, migration, and ancestry, of family and memory, of fire, loss and healing—contained within his poetry. Spring is here, and in this month's segment of "Ask Randi," Randi Eckel (0:31:47), owner of Toadshade Wildflower Farm encourages listeners to take a gentle approach when tidying up their gardens this season. She explains that because insects and other wildlife rely on leaf litter, stems, and decaying wood throughout the year, plant debris is essential for the survival of many creatures. Next, Kim Correro is joined by guest host Susan Landau, one of the people behind the Foote's Pond Wood Park restoration project in Morristown, New Jersey. Susan has also been instrumental in creating the "Going Native" planting guide for Northern New Jersey, and she collaborates each year on the popular Great Swamp Watershed Native Plant Sale, which is open online through April 18th. More information can be found at greatswamp.org. Together, Kim and Susan interview William Cullina (0:41:10), the F. Otto Haas Executive Director of the Morris Arboretum & Gardens at the University of Pennsylvania. Cullina is a well-known author and recognized authority on North American native plants. During their conversation, he shares his long-term goals for the Morris Arboretum and discusses his research in tree genetics and soil microbiology, as well as an exciting new exhibition titled "Bees, Butterflies, and Blooms: A Pollinator Paradise," which will run this year from May 23 to September 30. In the final segment, Kim and Ann speak with award-winning author and designer Kelly D. Norris (1:08:39), one of the leading ecological horticulturists of his generation. Kelly's new book, Your Natural Garden, is a page-by-page guide through the seasons of a naturalistic garden's life, and the tasks that come with each stage. Kelly explores the connections between people, plants, and place through ecological, site-specific design and art. He talks with Kim and me about the history of natural places, the value of abundance—in life and in planting—and the importance of becoming familiar, beyond the limited information contained on labels, with the plants we have in our gardens and parks. Follow The Wildstory on Instagram at Thewildstory_podcast

Episode 120: The Plan B Chronicles: Divorce, Defiance, Liberation I had Meredith as a guest here on the podcast last June, episode 113 Taylor Swift and the Divine Feminine. We have since gotten to know each other a little better and when I heard that she was promoting her new book, I wanted to support her in spreading the word.  In The Plan B Chronicles: Divorce, Defiance, Liberation, psychotherapist Meredith Beardmore delivers a raw and compelling memoir chronicling her journey through betrayal, healing, and self-discovery. After discovering her husband's infidelity, Meredith's life spirals into chaos, challenging everything she thought she knew about love, trust, and personal strength. Drawing from her professional experience in therapy and somatic healing, Beardmore navigates the emotional wreckage while offering readers valuable insights and practical tools for overcoming similar challenges. Through her path of somatic therapy, spiritual awakening, and ultimately reclaiming her personal power, Meredith's memoir is a candid, inspiring account of how the darkest moments in life can lead to profound transformation. This book serves as both a healing guide and a story of empowerment, making it essential reading for modern women questioning their own relationships and seeking a way forward. I was happy to read a copy of her book last weekend- she is a great writer and storyteller and I loved the way she wove it all together… Nevermind the sprinkling in of messages from spirit and divine interventions along the way! Right up my alley! She did a beautiful job of making magic from her hardship and in turn will help loads of others who are on a similar journey. Meredith Beardmore is a licensed psychotherapist, author, and the creator of the YouTube channel Mend with Mere. Her second book, The Plan B Chronicles: Divorce. Defiance. Liberation., is a fierce and funny collection of essays about heartbreak, single motherhood, and rewriting your future when life blows up the blueprint. She's also the author of Hey Addiction, Thanks for Nothing: A Brutally Honest Guide to Loving an Addict Without Losing Your Mind, inspired by her years of supporting families of addicts—both professionally and personally. Meredith holds a master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Ohio State University and integrates ACT, CBT, mindfulness, and expressive arts into her therapeutic work. Her writing has appeared in The Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, and Colman McCarthy's Teaching Peace. Send us a textHi everybody, and welcome to Attendance Bias. I am your host, Brian Weinstein. You know, prom night is full of cliches: carnations, gowns, tuxedos, slow dances, limousines, and so on. Now, take all those tropes and add an unexpected twist: your afterparty is taking your limo with a bunch of friends into Manhattan to see Phish play two sets at the hottest live music club in the city. And THAT is the story of today's guest, Josh Gertz, who is here to tell us about his prom afterparty: Phish's show on June 9, 1990 at the Wetlands Preserve. My prom afterparty was to go to the Limelight Nightclub and then to Wildwood, New Jersey for the weekend. I'd trade that for Josh's experience in a heartbeat.Phish was in a transitional period in 1990; they were still composing their multi-part nerd-rock opuses, but were also poking out of the comfort of the northeast, slowly growing their audience while they infused their strange band personality with musical virtuosity. It's arguably for the better that Josh didn't know what he was getting himself into, because even 35 years ago, the band was figuratively and literally pushing their boundaries. This incredible music all played out against the backdrop of the Wetlands Preserve. Talking about lower Manhattan is a constant refrain in today's conversation; Josh is originally from Northern New Jersey, and I'm originally from Long Island, so two households, both alike in dignity, going to the city to see live jamband music bore some common talking points. And that was just the beginning of our conversation. So bring your change of clothes, cool off if you need to, and give Trey a high five as Josh Gertz tells us about Phish at the Wetlands on June 9, 1990.

An unexpected throughline in these conversations is the influence of W.E.B. Anne Spencer's home and garden in Lynchburg, Virginia was a gathering place for Black intellectuals of the Harlem Renaissance, offering a garden refuge and retreat at a time when many Black Americans had migrated north to urban centers for new opportunities. Whether she was marveling at a spider, a goldfinch, a snowflake, or a violet, she made the natural world come alive. Are these aircraft military, civilian or alien? Is this all hysteria? Are drone hunters increasing the amount of false drone sightings? Should the media be doing more to investigate this? We may not get you any answers. But you should be able to have a laugh by the end of this show! My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Tess Callahan, author of the book Dawnland. Tess Callahan is also the author of the novel April & Oliver. Her essays and stories have appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Writer's Digest, National Public Radio, Agni, Narrative Magazine, AWP Notebook, Newsday, The Common, the Best American Poetry blog, and elsewhere. Her TEDx talk on creativity is titled, “The Love Affair Between Creativity & Constraint.” Tess is a graduate of Boston College and Bennington College Writing Seminars and teaches creative writing and meditation. She curates Muse-feed.com, a toolbox for aspiring writers. A dual citizen of the United States and Ireland, she lives in Cape Cod and Northern New Jersey with her family and number one life coach, her dog. In my book review, I stated Dawnland is a contemporary family life fiction filled to the brim with family secrets and misunderstandings. April has been friends with brothers Allen and Oliver since childhood. Al was bold, athletic, and always pushing boundaries. Oliver was quiet, studious, and always towing the line. April came from a bad home and though she loved Oliver, never felt she deserved him - even after they share their love for one another while in Ireland. In the end, April chooses Al, making the next fifteen years difficult, at best. The main portion of the story takes place during a one-week summer vacation on the Cape - something the family has done for years. Only this time, the pretense unravels and secrets come roaring out. The question is, who will survive unscathed when the dust settles? I loved this story and can't get April, Al, Meredith, Oliver, Hal, Beryl, and the children out of my mind. It's a great read. Episode 115 - Death, Rebirth, and lots of signs from Spirit Early in June I recognized that I'd overextended myself. I never considered myself to be a people pleaser nor did I think I was bad with my boundaries, but evidence to the contrary revealed itself! I started out my summer overwhelmed, burned out and with a dysregulated nervous system. I'd seen a homeopath who gave me a remedy that brought all this to the forefront. It course corrected me and its effects aided in me recognizing where I'd overcommitted myself, forcing me to confront needed change. Between the homeopathic remedy and the goddess Kali, it became evident that I'd need to clear my plate in a big way to usher in whatever new energies that needed to take place. It was a transformative summer, one where I was mostly a recluse and in cocoon mode. A metamorphosis… All to rise again, a fresher, better version of myself! Sometimes I wish I was exempt from human suffering, but why be put on this planet as a human if not to get the full human experience? Hope you enjoy listening in! Meet Jaclyn Lin of Northern New Jersey. At 35, she was expecting her second daughter. However, she began experiencing extreme back pains and abdominal discomfort at around week 20 of her pregnancy. When she brought these symptoms to the attention of her OB during a routine visit, further testing was recommended due to the severe and persistent nature of her pain. Doctors initially hesitated to perform scans or invasive testing due to the risks involved in pregnancy. Despite this, Jackie advocated for herself and, after discussions with her doctors, decided to undergo the necessary scans and a biopsy. However, on the day of the scheduled biopsy, doctors deemed her too vulnerable due to her pregnancy. Further tests revealed that Jackie's liver was severely enlarged, causing discomfort. She also noticed increased movement from her unborn baby, suspecting it was due to the limited space caused by her enlarged liver. Additionally, a mass was found at the tail of her pancreas, although it was not yet confirmed to be cancerous. As a result of the situation, doctors decided that Jackie needed to deliver her baby prematurely in order to proceed with the biopsy of the pancreatic mass. Her daughter was born on August 21st, 2023, and had to be admitted to the NICU. A week later, Jackie received her diagnosis and began treatment on September 3rd, 2023. Since then, Jackie has undergone 26 cycles of chemotherapy and has had a positive response to the treatments. Her liver has returned to its normal healthy size. Reflecting on her journey, Jackie acknowledges the immense pressure and challenge of balancing chemotherapy and fighting stage 4 pancreatic cancer while caring for a newborn and a toddler at home. She expresses her gratitude for the support she and her husband received from her family, who stepped in to help care for her children during this challenging time. Jackie continues to be screened every three months to monitor her condition, and she is still undergoing treatment as a palliative measure. Despite the challenges, she views her diagnosis as a blessing in disguise, as it has allowed her to strengthen her family bonds. She continues to navigate being a mom of young children while managing her health, taking things one step at a time according to her scans. Nancy Nugent (no, she's not related to Ted), was born and raised in Northern NJ and still finds herself here despite the many, many thoughts she's had about living out of state. She's found it's truly hard to give up the Jersey card, but she did at least move to a different county when she left home. Growing up, the only law enforcement knowledge Nancy had was because of her grandfather, who had retired as a police sergeant long before she was born. Nancy had absolutely no intention, desires, or even thoughts about getting into anything related to law enforcement, public service, etc. but many years ago in college, when picking the mandatory elective courses, Nancy chose what she figured to be the least sleep inducing class, Intro to Criminal Justice. As a result of that one class, Nancy ended up adding a Criminal Justice major to her Communications degree and, after realizing going the actual police officer route wasn't a desire, has now had a career path which started in police dispatch, detoured to fraud and federal background investigations, and then came back to dispatch, where she has spent the last 9 years in two departments growing from dispatch trainee to her current title of supervisory dispatcher. She has heard things ranging from super sweet to absolutely heartbreaking, has acted as an unintentional therapist, and has been screamed at and called every name in the book by complete strangers, all while keeping track of various rules, regulations, people, their personalities, and their preferences. When not at work, Nancy gets out of dispatch mode the best she can and tries to spend time with her significant other, friends, and family, but mostly gets ordered around by a 12 year old, 30 pound pit bull mix named Trooper (who is absolutely NOT named after the state police). She's found exploring various hiking trails and other outdoor spots to be the best mind clearing activity ever. Nancy also lives to be the fun aunt to her two most awesome nephews. Find Nancy NugentInstagramFind The Suffering PodcastThe Suffering Podcast InstagramKevin Donaldson InstagramMike Failace InstagramBuzzsproutApple PodcastSpotifyFacebookTikTokYouTubeThe Suffering Podcast FamilyToyota of HackensackSupport the showThe Suffering Podcast Instagram Kevin Donaldson Instagram TikTok YouTube
