The Salad With a Side of Fries podcast is hosted by Jenn Trepeck, discussing wellness and weight loss for real life, clearing up the myths, misinformation, bad science & marketing surrounding our nutrition knowledge and the food industry. Let's dive into wellness and weight loss for real life, including drinking, eating out, and skipping the grocery store. Today we are joined by Deanna Yates, founder, and CEO of Wannabe Clutter Free. Physical clutter and mental clutter definitely tie in with one another. When your environment is full of items, it can be more challenging to get motivated or stick with the healthy habits you want. Deanna gives excellent tips and tricks on how to get started with organizing your home and how to simplify the items in your house, from your pantry to your closet and your entryway to your nightstand. Tune in to learn how to get your house in order so you can be the better version of yourself.IN THIS EPISODE:● [4:07] How did Deanna start her business, Wannabe Clutter Free?● [6:37] What are her thoughts on The Home Edit and Marie Condo? ● [11:27] Jenn's story about getting organized and how it changed her food decisions.● [12:40] How does clearing the clutter affect our mental clarity? ● [16:27] Deanna's 3-step process to start decluttering.● [20:02] Where should you begin with decluttering? ● [25:55] How does Deanna help people through a wardrobe closet cleanout?● [27:30] How to create a “module wardrobe” - 12 pieces, 72 outfits.● [32:36] What are some of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to live minimally?● [36:20] How does changing your environment create behavior change? KEY TAKEAWAYS:● Take 15 minutes, choose a room and use these three things: 1. Grab a plastic bag and fill it with garbage. 2. Put things you want to donate into a box. 3. Anything you have in your house that you want to keep but doesn't belong in the room it's currently in, put them in a laundry basket so you can concentrate on the one space. Then put away the items in the laundry basket when the 15 minutes are up. ● When decluttering, think about what you can implement to make each space feel good and be the most productive for its purpose. ● Don't try to overhaul your house all at once; it gets to be too much. Just take one small space at a time and go from there. Not only will it feel more doable, but you will also start creating great habits over time.QUOTES: “If we can remove the excess, or tidy up, or clean up, it's also a freeing of the mind. The physical space helps with the mental space.” - Jenn Trepeck “It's not about not having stuff. It's about using your stuff to help you, using your stuff as tools.” - Deanna Yates“Clothes are one of those things that can be very emotional because the experience we have when wearing those clothes then stays with those clothes.” - Deanna Yates“So I think those kinds of things as we can set those little baby steps up. Then again, it all comes back to that mental clarity where it frees us up to be the better versions of ourselves. It frees us up to have a moment of, okay, things don't have to be such a panic. I don't have to be in such a rush.” - Deanna YatesRESOURCES:Become A Member of Salad with a Side of FriesJenn's Free Menu PlanA Salad With a Side of FriesA Salad With a Side of Fries InstagramGUEST RESOURCES: Wannabe Clutter Free WebsitePodcast for Aspiring MinimalistsWannabe Clutter Free InstagramWannabe Clutter Free PinterestWannabe Clutter Free FacebookGUEST BIO:Deanna Yates is the founder and CEO of Wannabe Clutter Free and host of the popular podcast, Wannabe Minimalist. Have you ever considered what the experience is for a blind person to visit your website or your brick-and-mortar business? Is your business inclusive and accessible or are you telling a big part of the population that you don't care about about them, that they are not important, that you don't want their business? My guest, Danielle Main, is a blind entrepreneur; dog trainer, disability advocate, rower & equestrian, and RMT (registered massage therapist). She is always pushing her limits, uses the hashtag #blindandbadass and in 2019 Danielle's charitable work was recognized by L'Oréal with the Women of Worth Award. The third category of clutter is anything unfinished and with 2022 coming to an end a good approach is to finish things up so we don't drag them into the new year. Science came to the conclusion that we remember uncompleted goals and projects way better than completed ones. We all know that feeling of how something unfinished is eating away at us, how it's a heavy weight that is pulling us down or can keep us stuck. If we have a lot of unfinished projects not finishing something is no longer just a possibility when we start something new, it becomes our identity. I share with you the tips and insights I had when reading Jon Acuff's book Finish and how it ties in with what I teach and help my clients with. I'm talking with Ulrika Sullivan a former scientist turned intuitive spiritual life coach, yoga teacher, and energy healer. This is a special conversation you will see, also a very deep one. In essence we are talking about how to let go of mental clutter. Ulrika wrote a book called "Widsom Beyond What You Know", and here is a quote from the book: Instead of being driven by what I can tangibly accomplish, what others think of me, or what others say is the right way to succeed, my inner voice of guidance provides a steady flow of gentle nudges, inner calm, and self-love—all of it within an unbreakable invisible shield of protection around me.So here is what we are talking about: how most of us are living a template instead of our authentic selfhow we know when we act from the mind not from the hearthow we can recognize the signs that guide us to the next right thing to doshe shares with us a simple and easy practice we can do to get in touch with our intuition and our heartwhat to do if you are scared to hear what your heart has to sayand how our heart, intuition and inner knowing will protect us if we let itUlrika says she was driven by the mind (where chaos often starts) but is now living from the heart and intuition (where peace starts). Can you imagine a better guest for this podcast that is called from chaos to peace? I am an avid reader, always have been. I can spend the whole day sitting on the balcony, at my beautiful pond or snuggled up on the sofa and just read, read, read, for hours. I was like this already growing up. So books play a big role in my life and yes I have a few physical books and last time I checked 276 eBooks on Kindle ... so the question comes up, do I think books can be clutter? This is actually a rewind or replay of Episode 12 from April 2020, listen in to hear if I think books can be clutter, when books are clutter and how to decide which books to let go and which ones to keep. It is time to listen and find out if your physical clutter is resulting in mental clutter. I'm not talking about piles of stuff but perhaps as small as a few things we might be holding on to that we don't actually need. What space is this taking up in your home but also in your head? What causes clutter and what steps should we be taking to give ourselves a more relaxing environment and better headspace. Better HustleInstagram: @better.hustleEmail: beter.hustle@outlook.com
I talk about the difference between organizing and clutter clearing, there is an overlap for sure but it's not the same. There are some differences between the two that are important and substantial. Organizing is more like a band-aid, a short term fixes that have some value and can give you some peace but you're most likely doing all that hard work of organizing over and over just to find yourself back in the same situation a few short weeks later. Clearing clutter on the other hand goes deep to the root cause of the issue and creates long lasting change and transformation. Organizing is mostly mental while clearing clutter can get emotional and your mind will try to fool you and give you all kinds of excuses why you can't make decisions and this is where the benefits of professional help come in. Listen in as I explain the differences and then, if you are done with putting band aids on your situation and wasting your time, energy and money over and over on short-term fixes, if you are ready to make a lasting change, contact me, I can help. We are continuing our living lighter series today by talking about 2 additional types of clutter. We have talked about Physical Clutter. That is the clutter that our best life is found under. Literally. We talked about virtual clutter and how it affects not only your energy but your relationships. We talked about temporal clutter and how much of your life is wasted in distraction, delays and doubt. Today I am going to introduce 2 other types of clutter that we might not think is clutter worthy but I assure you they are the biggest offenders. We are talking about our stories, our believes, the thoughts that 95% of the time go by without our knowing. When this happens we live on auto - pilot living the same day over and over and over again. We become stuck in the same thought patterns that no doubt shape our life - I just want us to like the shape. Do you like the shape of your life? Mental clutter and physical clutter are often directly related. I don't know about you, but in my ideal world, I would love tackling one project at a time and seeing it through before starting on the next. But that's just not how I function! If you are anything like me, it can be such a rollercoaster trying to handle all of the details and track multiple projects at one time. In this episode, I talk through the perfect worksheet I've created for myself that I want to share with you! Mental clutter and physical clutter are often directly related. In this episode, I call out how the process of working through the items on your mental to-do list can lead to the need for managing more physical items, which, for me, is overwhelming. Listen in to hear how I use Evernote to track the physical items that haven't been used yet so that I don't forget about them, ultimately adding more to my physical clutter! Part 2 will cover this same concept for people who prefer pen and paper. Stay tuned for next week when it releases on 1/25! 004: Show Notes

Mercury went retrograde September 26 or 27, 2021 (depending on where you are in the world) and I cover what it means for you, your life and your business and what it has to do with your clutter. We all have heard what sounds like you need to put your life on hold and stay in bed for 3 weeks while Mercury is retrograde, but of course that makes no sense. While there are some things that are more likely to go wrong or get delayed and you want to be aware of, there is a positive and supportive side to this that can help you make progress in life and business and your journey from chaos to peace. So listen in when I touch on what not to do during these 3 weeks but mainly focus on what to do especially when it comes to clutter. Whether or not you "believe" in Mercury retrograde or are someone who puts this all off as complete nonsense (which is totally fine with me) you could still listen in and then do what I am suggesting to do. In today's episode of the Wake Up Call Podcast, I'm chatting with Kenzie Harkey, a professional home organizer and the Founder & CEO of Simply Dare. Through Simply Dare, Kenzie helps busy and overwhelmed homeowners take control of the physical clutter in their life and build systems that keep their homes functional and beautiful. I was so curious about how home organization can affect mental health AND what our physical clutter might tell us about our mental clutter. If you struggle to get your clutter under control, this is the episode for you! Connect with Kenzie! Simply Dare on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/simply.dare/ Simply Dare website - https://simply-dare.com/ Products or websites mentioned: https://www.paperkarma.com/ - to unsubscribe from junk mail http://unroll.me/ - to unsubscribe from emails Some of Kenzie's amazing tips and takeaways are: When organizing a space, visualize what you want your space to look like. Write down three words that you want to describe how you want the space to look and feel when you're done re-organizing it to help guide the design and organizational systems. Pay attention to the items in your space that you're holding onto because of other people's expectations, or the expectations you've placed on yourself. Letting go of the expectations helps you unload those unwanted items - and those unwanted thoughts! Make sure everything coming into your home has a purpose, and that you're practicing being a more conscious consumer. Remember: bins and other organizational items that don't have a purpose are just clutter, too! Welcome to the Wake Up Call Podcast with Alicia Hopkins (that's me!). I work in corporate sales by day and am a personal development guru and Life Coach by night. My goal in this podcast is to share valuable and actionable tips on what I call the “Core Four” - mindfulness, movement, habits, and growth - so you can build a life that feels true to you. I will be interviewing people who have had a “wake up call” that their good-on-paper life wasn't lighting them up, and what they did to change that. This week on BeREAL, Diana and Ednesha are joined by Laurie Palau from the podcast This ORGANIZED Life to discuss emotional clutter and the importance of being organized. Laurie Palau is the author of the book HOT MESS: A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO GETTING ORGANIZED, host of the popular weekly podcast, This ORGANIZED Life, and founder of Simply B Organized-a lifestyle company helping people live simply and work smarter. Her advice has been featured in national publications including Real Simple & The New York Times. Laurie speaks on the topics of clutter, parenting, and entrepreneurship. Her CLUTTER CLINIC™ is a nationwide workshop providing strategies to help your team, group, or organization reduce clutter at home or in the workplace. The episode begins with Laurie explaining the multiple forms of clutter that create stress in our lives. She goes into detail about physical clutter, emotional clutter, and calendar clutter. Palau explains how all three can contribute to a feel of unfulfillment and make life seem static. She then explains her five clutter pitfalls: procrastination, indecision, guilt, overwhelm, and time. All five pose a risk to an organized life, and she goes over how to combat each potential obstacle. After a quick break, the episode resumes with Ednesha asking Laurie about the “Pintrest Syndrome.” Laurie discusses how, sure, Pintrest photos look nice and are good sources of inspiration for room design, but they often aren't practical or easy to maintain. Laurie highlights how aesthetic is important in organization, but also, preservation is key. Don't strive for a design that will just add more stress into your life because of its need for constant maintenance. The episode concludes with Ednesha taking a few tips from Laurie and brainstorming how she will use them to design the backyard of her new place for the summer! Thank you so much for your continued support for The BeREAL Podcast. We look forward to each new week, and we hope you do as well. Keep a look out for a new episode next Tuesday! Hi Friends! Today we are wrapping up part 3 of my conversation with Enneagram teacher, and fellow 8, Joey Schewee. If you haven’t already listened to parts 1 & 2 of our conversation, I encourage you to hit the pause button and go check them out. In our earlier conversations Joey walked us through the characteristics of each of the 9 numbers in the enneagram, including where each struggles and shines. Today we begin to look at the link between each number and their unique relationship to clutter. I pose the question “do certain numbers on the enneagram have a tendency to struggle more with Physical Clutter, Emotional Clutter or Calendar Clutter?” And if so, why? Unlocking this question could be a huge game changer in how we approach the process of decluttering and living a more organized life. I can’t think of a better guest to help me close out 2019! I look forward to diving deeper into this topic as we embark on a new decade. I hope this series has challenged you to look deeper into your motivations and behavior. This week on the Podcast (Part 1) I talk to Air Force spouse Tara Tuttle about decluttering and letting go! Tara is a Declutter expert and Life Coach and know's the challenges living the military lifestyle can bring concerning organisation, clutter, holding onto things, feeling overwhelmed and how physical and mental clutter are often connected. We talk about the two types of people when it comes to decluttering. How Military life can allow us to not think critically about our belongings and how saying yes to less physical possessions or mental clutter allows us to make space for what is really important. On Part 2 of the podcast, Tara and I talk about just in case items and how they hold us down. When excess and clutter prevent us from living the way we want to live. Setting aside time to declutter and organise and starting small in order to avoid overwhelm. Taking time to find or create homes for our belongings when we post into a new location and how that can allow us, mentally, to feel more settled. How deciding to let go of stuff is just the first step in the process and how having a plan and committing to the whole process is key. Building triggers into everyday life so decluttering and letting go isn't left until post out time and Tara has offered MWL podcast listeners an awesome discount off any of her decluttering plans but you will have to listen to part two for the details. What have you dragged into your life? Objections, collections, boxes, regret, impeding thoughts, fabrication......Today the ladies discuss letting go and starting again! Life is a winding road we are human beings, we have bodies, thoughts, habitual thought patterns, worries and letting go and moving on is part of a road that takes two steps forward and sometimes a step back. Life isn’t a straight line and once you accept this life become simpler.-How do you define clutter? Clutter isn’t Powell’s of objects alone. When you do a creative project you need clutter for the mind to work freely, to play in like a kid plays in a sandbox. Clutter is more than objects, it is your thoughts and emotions that keep you from living your best self.-When you have a pile of stuff and it is limiting your view then you need to do something about it whether it is a pile of limiting beliefs or a pile of objects.Clutter is not your enemy it is your teacher!
