A recent situation at a Purina plant in Flagstaff, Arizona resulted in a visit from the local Fire Department.Responders were called to an active chemical leak at the plant, which produces hundreds of thousands of tons of dog food annually for brands like Alpo, Beneful and Pro Plan.According to reports, the factory team came upon a chemical spill of approximately 10 gallons and evacuated its boiler room.Upon evaluation, the hazmat team determined that two chemicals that “don't go together” were combined in a chemical distribution system. The result was corrosion to the line, which led to the spill.The leak was fixed, though several employees reportedly took themselves to the hospital to be checked out because they felt ill. Ultimately, no serious injuries were reported.Powder Bulk & Solids reported that a Purina representative spoke to “safeguards and protocols in place,” saying the team was able to adhere to those guidelines in order to address the situation.The representative added that “The plant is now reviewing the cause of the spill and taking action to help prevent this from happening again.” The Flagstaff Purina plant was the site of a much more severe accident back in 2014. At the time, workers were operating welding equipment in a grain elevator when the dust exploded, severely burning two contractors and injuring two others.

In the decades since, he founded the FealGood Foundation and became a leading advocate for first responders, survivors, volunteers and others who were injured or sickened by exposure to toxic dust at Ground Zero. In his new book, I Will Follow You Anywhere, Feal recounts the years-long fight to pass legislation like the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act: how his team organized their relentless lobbying efforts in Congress, built relationships across party lines, and refused to let perfect become the enemy of the good. He also talks about his close relationship with comedian Jon Stewart, and the lessons he learned from lawmakers like Nancy Pelosi about navigating Washington. Feal also reflects on the responders and survivors who have died or continue to live with 9/11-related illnesses, the ongoing fight to expand healthcare coverage, and what he hopes a younger generation will remember about the attacks on September 11th and the days that followed. Occupational exposure monitoring, healthcare, mental health support, and long-term research must be considered part of catastrophic-disaster planning.Memory has geography.Places such as Ground Zero, Pearl Harbor, Gettysburg, Oklahoma City, Shanksville, and the Pentagon become connected to collective memory. Emergency managers should recognize that communities may attach meaning, grief, identity, and trauma to physical locations for generations.Social recovery matters.Disasters can create fear, anger, mistrust, discrimination, and division. Restoring social cohesion can be every bit as important—and considerably more difficult—than restoring infrastructure.Recovery belongs to survivors, not our planning calendar.Emergency managers work with recovery frameworks, timelines, objectives, and milestones. Human beings do not necessarily recover according to those schedules.The Question for Emergency ManagersSeptember 11 forces us to reconsider what we mean when we say a community has “recovered.”Is recovery complete when the debris is removed?When businesses reopen?When infrastructure is restored?When a replacement building opens?Or does recovery continue as long as responders are becoming sick, families are grieving, survivors are seeking treatment, and another generation is learning what happened?Twenty-five years after September 11, perhaps the answer is clear:The response ended. The recovery did not.Final ThoughtEvery September we say:Never Forget.Perhaps the emergency management profession should add another promise:Never stop recovering.Never stop studying what happened. Never stop caring for responders. Never stop supporting survivors and families. Never stop examining the long-term consequences. He lobbied Congress to pass the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010, which he fought to defend and expand in 2015 and 2019 with the help of dozens of his fellow 9/11 responders, post-9/11 illness survivors, and comedian Jon Stewart. In the decades since, he founded the FealGood Foundation and became a leading advocate for first responders, survivors, volunteers and others who were injured or sickened by exposure to toxic dust at Ground Zero. In his new book, I Will Follow You Anywhere, Feal recounts the years-long fight to pass legislation like the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act: how his team organized their relentless lobbying efforts in Congress, built relationships across party lines, and refused to let perfect become the enemy of the good. He also talks about his close relationship with comedian Jon Stewart, and the lessons he learned from lawmakers like Nancy Pelosi about navigating Washington.Feal also reflects on the responders and survivors who have died or continue to live with 9/11-related illnesses, the ongoing fight to expand healthcare coverage, and what he hopes a younger generation will remember about the attacks on September 11th and the days that followed. Mis pasos diarios muestran qué voz estoy escuchando. Si dejo que mis emociones manden, termino caminando en círculos; si dejo que Dios me guíe, encuentro un rumbo firme incluso cuando el día se complica.Por eso el llamado de Deuteronomio 5:33 me toca tan de cerca: “Andad en todo el camino que Jehová vuestro Dios os ha mandado...”. No dice “solo cuando sea fácil” ni “solo cuando me convenga”. Dice en todo el camino. Eso incluye la casa, la sala de clases, el recreo, el chat con amigos y el momento en que nadie me ve. Dios no pide obediencia parcial, porque su camino no es una lista pesada, sino una senda de vida para mis decisiones diarias. Cuando obedecer me parece cuesta arriba, recuerdo que Él me está enseñando a caminar con Él, no a caminar solo.Hoy puedo dar un paso concreto: decidir una cosa que sé que agrada a Dios y hacerla sin retrasarla. Puede ser pedir perdón, ordenar mi tiempo, hablar con honestidad o dedicar unos minutos a la oración antes de abrir el celular. Cada paso fiel, aunque sea pequeño, fortalece mi fe y me acerca más a Jesús. Él sigue guiando mi camino aquí y ahora, y cuando le obedezco, descubro que sus mandamientos no me alejan de la alegría, sino que me enseñan a vivir con propósito y confianza.

Her academic background includes graduate work at institutions such as the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at National Louis University, Cummings Graduate Institute, Harvard, and Parker University, where she focused on neurobiology, stress, and the intersection of genetics and pharmacology in mental health treatment. In addition to her direct clinical work, she is deeply involved in research and academic writing, with a particular emphasis on PTSD in first responders, epidemiology, and advanced statistical methods. She brings a structured, integrative approach to patient care that reflects her interests in spirituality, ethics, and long-term wellness, while also maintaining a strong personal commitment to fitness, nutrition, and lifelong learning. Outside of work, she enjoys strength training, and engaging with historical biographies, and documentaries, enriching her approach to lifelong learning and patient centered healing in the dynamic field of behavioral health.  She embraces a holistic view of health and healing.Dan Roach, MBA, MCJ, worked as a law enforcement officer/executive for 31 years.  He retired from the Illinois State Police as a Captain/Investigations Commander having served there for over 26 years.  He then served as the Deputy Chief of the Schaumburg (IL) Police Department for five (5) years. He has extensive experience in criminal investigations, undercover narcotics/gang enforcement, homicide investigations, and officer-involved shooting investigations. Dan has a B.S. degree in Marketing (from Northern Illinois University), a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from St. Ambrose University, and a Masters of Criminal Justice (MCJ) degree from St. Ambrose University.  Dan attended Session 204 of the FBI National Academy in 2001.  Additionally, he has extensive peer support training and holds several certifications in peer support including a graduate Certificate in Spiritual Direction from the North Park Theological Seminary.Rev. Tammy J. Roach, is an ordained pastor who holds a Masters of Spiritual Formation, as well as a graduate certificate in Spiritual Direction. She is the Operations Director and Chaplain at Cornerstone Retreat Center for 1st Responders and their families, a not-for-profit she co-founded with her husband Dan.  CRC provides peer-to-peer preventative and restorative wellness services, education, and support to First Responders and their families to help them thrive beyond the call. Tammy and Dan have been married for over 26 years and together they have journeyed through the ups and downs of a LE Career. None of that answers the question in front of you now. What should I actually do before another retrieval? In this episode, I walk through the three questions I would want answered. None of them are more supplements, and none of them are another checklist. A cancelled cycle tells you how your ovaries responded to medication. It was never designed to tell you about the environment those eggs were developing in during the ninety days before the injections started. What I cover: what the cycle actually established and what it was never built to answer. What happened in those ninety days, including the full thyroid panel with antibodies rather than TSH alone, ferritin where we look at 80 to 100, high sensitivity CRP where we like it below one, and absorption. Your partner's side, including DNA fragmentation, sperm antibodies and the seminal microbiome across his seventy-four days. And the question to ask your fertility team before you agree to another retrieval: what exactly are we changing, and why? I am not telling you which protocol to be on. That is a conversation with your fertility team. I am also not saying any one of these markers explains a cancelled cycle. That is not the claim I am making. It is about whether the investigation was finished before the next decision. ⚠️Ingeniero Andrik Soto alerta que República Dominicana no está preparada para responder ante un sismo de gran magnitud. spmnoticias.com El ingeniero Andrik Soto lanzó una contundente advertencia sobre la alta vulnerabilidad sísmica de la República Dominicana, asegurando que el país carece de capacidad de respuesta institucional y estructural ante un desastre natural de gran escala. Durante su intervención en una reunión con el gremio, Soto señaló que en el territorio nacional se vulneran de forma sistemática las normativas básicas de la ingeniería estructural, estimando que aproximadamente el 80% de los proyectos en construcción actuales incurren en irregularidades o deficiencias técnicas. Precisó la falta de preparación institucional, indicando que ni las instancias gubernamentales ni el Colegio Dominicano de Ingenieros, Arquitectos y Agrimensores (CODIA) han tomado medidas efectivas ni correctivas tras advertencias y eventos previos. También abordó la informalidad e incumplimiento técnico: La violación a los reglamentos de construcción afecta tanto a obras informales como a desarrollos en diversos sectores urbanos, citando zonas como El Caliche, Ensanche La Fe y Manganagua. El ingeniero advirtió que en caso de registrarse un temblor superior a los 6.5 o 7.0 grados en la escala de Richter, las deficiencias de infraestructura provocarían el colapso masivo de edificaciones y pérdidas humanas significativas (más de 200,000 muertes). The foundation is currently organizing support groups for families who have had a loved one deported under the current administration.** Today in this episode, I talked with Dr. Yessica Green Rosas about the importance of support groups and rapid responders in our current political climate. We explored how research data collected from pre- and post-tests can be used to advocate for funding, policy change, or expand mental health support for rapid responders. Dr. Yessica shared her experience with mental health and highlighted the importance of pre- and post tests for project like this, and moreover, why research matters.   About Today's Guest: Dr. Green Rosas is a scholar whose research addresses systemic inequities to improve the mental health of Latine children and families.
