"Alto saxophonist Justin Robinson was born August 14, 1968, in Manhattan. He first picked up a horn at the age of 13, and honed his sound while attending the High School of Music and Arts (LaGuardia High School) in New York.Robinson developed a passion for the alto sax and, from the influences of Charlie Parker and Jackie McLean, crafted his own distinctive sound. Robinson has collaborated with eminent artists such as the Harper Brothers, Cecil Brooks III, Abbey Lincoln, Diana Ross, Little Jimmy Scott, and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, The Dizzy Gillespie All Star Band, and most recently, The Roy Hargrove Big Band in addition to the Roy Hargrove Quintet.Justin Robinson wields a hefty portfolio: joined Harper Brothers at 18, debuted on Verve at 22, a decade's-worth of star sideman gigs. All of that hang-time paid off with his 1998 recording The Challenge on Arabesque Records. Penning six of the compositions, selecting an inspired posse of young ringers (Ron Blake, tenor sax; Stephen Scott, piano; Dwayne Burno, bass; Dion Parsons, drums), Robinson also produced the whole shebang.Robinson also released as a solo artist Justin Time in 1991 with Verve Music Group label. It was produced by Bobby Watson, who also appears on the recording, in additon to Gary Bartz, on alto saxophones, and includes more young ringers of that time: Eddie Henderson - trumpet; Kenny Barron, Stephen Scott - pianos; Peter Washington - bass; Lewis Nash - drums." As a vocalist, arranger and songwriter Kristina utilizes a wide range of music genres to create her unique sound. Her eclectic latest album ‘Stronger’ blends art rock with R&B, indie-pop and jazz. The thematic & powerful songs radiate mental strength dealing with and breaking through the claustrophobic isolation and loneliness of city life - projecting empowerment through self-discovery & awareness. The music marks a turn for Kristina to a more diverse sound away from her jazz-oriented previous efforts of her widely acclaimed debut album ‘Perception’, which was released in 2018. Growing up just outside of New York City, Kristina was exposed to a wide array of music & dance which markedly influenced her at an early age. As such, she performed in youth musical theater and eventually branched out artistically, embracing solo performance as a teen singer-songwriter and vocalist in alt-rock bands. Her artistic thirst reached into classical art songs, opera and vocal jazz when she discovered the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O’Day, Sarah Vaughan and Chet Baker. Her embrace of jazz expanded into the performance space during her high school years, joining a quartet that gigged locally in Westchester, NY. On scholarship she studied at The Hartt School’s Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz and completed her formal music education at The City College of New York. Kristina developed her musical voice in the NYC jazz scene, performing at venerable haunts such as Smalls, Smoke, Minton's, Mezzrow as well as The Apollo Theater. With such a diverse artistic foundation, it is no surprise that her innovation for new sounds drives Kristina’s creative flow, melding rock, jazz, funk, R&B & alternative genres into her music."Support the show (http://berniesbootlegs.com/support)

Only 29 years old, Mr. Barber has already worked with artists such as Pat Metheny, Nicholas Payton, Buster Williams, Kenny Barron, Jeremy Pelt, Jimmy Greene, J.D. Allen, Harold Mabern, Larry Willis, Steve Davis, The Brooklyn Philharmonic, and Erykah Badu. Now, he’s stepping out in full force as a bandleader. DownBeat magazine calls Vision Ahead’s self-titled debut album Barber’s “greatest accomplishment to date,” but make no mistake, this group is more than the Jonathan Barber Quintet; this is unmistakably “Vision Ahead,” a distinctive and close-knit group of musicians who have been working toward this moment for years. Featuring Godwin Louis on saxophone, Andrew Renfroe on guitar, Matt Dwonszyk on bass, and Taber Gable on piano, Vision Ahead offers a fresh blend of classic jazz with elements of gospel, rock, soul, and fusion that’s already attracting listeners across generations. Even when they’re playing hard—and they do reach some thrilling crescendos—this extremely dynamic band always feels impeccably sharp and in control, cool far beyond their years. Barber also shows quite a gift for pacing in his new compositions, with each song boasting a real sense of progression that’s balanced with a proper spotlight on his bandmates’ noteworthy improvisations. Barber is the main composer but each member of the band contributes compositions and arrangements. With strong melodic motifs and almost every extended solo accompanied by new forms or themes, Barber’s music strikes the rare balance of maintaining a clear emotional through-line while still providing each soloist a fresh foundation on which to build. Jonathan Barber & Vision Ahead has performed at The Jazz Standard, BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, Scullers Jazz Club, Smalls Jazz Club, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, Rockwood Music Hall, Smoke Jazz Club, The Cell, Minton’s Playhouse, Black Eyed Sally’s, The Side Door and other notable music venues. In August of 2018 this band headlined the Rainy Days Festival held in St. Petersburg and Moscow, Russia. The name “Vision Ahead” holds deep personal significance to Barber..."Support the show (http://berniesbootlegs.com/support)

His lyrical approach to line construction and depth of harmonic sensibility allow him to record and play all over the world with such master players and burgeoning stars as David Hazeltine, Ugonna Okegwo, Donald Vega, Willie Jones III, Rick Germanson, Quincy Davis, David Wong, Jason Brown, Dezon Douglas and Rodney Green. A prolific composer, Fowser has celebrated four cooperative releases on Posi-tone Records, co-led with vibraphone virtuoso, Behn Gillece. His debut release as a leader, Standing Tall earned him the number-one spot on JazzWeek Radio Chart seven weeks in a row. Each track reflects a contemporary treatment of conventional harmonic concepts—a creative manipulation that has become part of his signature sound as a composer and an arranger, as well as a soloist. Set for release in February 2017, Now Hear This, Fowser’s second release as a soloist for Posi-tone features 11 original compositions and the same chart-topping lineup as Standing Tall: Josh Bruneau, Rick Germanson, Paul Gill and Jason Tiemann. Performing live every Friday night, his blistering quintet headlines the New York nightlife scene at the Django inside the Roxy Hotel on the corner of Walker and Church (www.thedjangonyc.com). Fowser’s fluid phrasing and melodic approach to improvising developed as a result of his exposure to the rich musical legacy of the Philly Sound, following in time with the rhythmic footsteps of John Coltrane, Lee Morgan, McCoy Tyner, Philly Joe Jones, Benny Golson and The Heath Brothers. Attending The University of the Arts in the early 2000s, Fowser studied with Tony Salicandro and Chris Farr, before transferring to William Paterson University in New Jersey, where he studied with NEA Jazz Master, Harold Mabern—an artistic force who remains one of Fowser’s major musical influences, today. As a grad student at SUNY Purchase, Fowser studied with contemporary legends of the tenor saxophone Ralph Lalama, Grant Stewart and Eric Alexander—the latter with whom he forged a professional relationship, subbing for Alexander on many of his gigs, and playing with him live, in classic two tenor context. Becoming more visible on the live music scene, in the latter 2000s Fowser enjoyed both downtown and uptown residencies at iconic New York venues. Hosting the session at Smalls Jazz Club every Tuesday for four years, and playing the late set at Smoke Jazz and Supper Club every Friday for two years, he followed headlining sets of such masters as the late Cedar Walton, Buster Williams and perhaps his greatest influence, GSupport the show (http://berniesbootlegs.com/support)
