Meet my client Lori Patch. Owner/Designated Broker at The Thomas Group NW Real Estate. Extraordinary real estate professional. Even more extraordinary friend.  Listen as Lori shares her transformation, from 'about to quit' to 'wow I can't believe how how amazing my life and business are'.   The biggest breakthrough she experienced was simply becoming the woman God made her to be. And that gave her the confidence to start a networking group and a couple of popular FB groups that serve thousands. My hope and prayer is that this episode will inspire you to stop comparing yourself to others. And, instead, accept that you are 'perfectly imperfect,' exactly the way God designed you to be. Equipped to fulfill God's plan for your life. You are enough.  You are worthy. You are extraordinary. Connect with Lori at: https://thethomasgroupnw.com/

Since the 1850s, the Asian population began immigrating to North America in hopes of finding wealth in the Gold Rush. Although sizeable Asian communities developed in North America, the Asian population has faced - and still faces - many challenges. By drawing on Asian-American/Asian-Canadian cuisine and the 'model minority' stereotype, Reza and Nicole discuss the hardships of the early settlers, the in-between culture of the Asian diaspora, and the current-day systemic racism towards Asians with our guest speaker, Jeffrey Ma in today's episode of 'On That!'About the series: On that! interviews one guest per episode, conducting a deep dive into their area of expertise while providing a clear breakdown of the triumphs, difficulties, and stories in the guest's personal journeys.Credits:Producer: Nicole ChiuHost: Reza Qurban-AliEditor: Eric JiangCover Art: @onlyooh_Follow us on Instagram and Facebook @thwdebatepodcastDo you have a suggestion for a topic you would like to hear about?  Warraburra Nura Native Garden In Conversation with Alice McAuliffe Creative Producer You may not know of garden in on the 6th floor of a building that you the public can visit. From the website, “Waraburra Nura is a public medicinal plant garden at the University of Technoly (UTS) Sydney, developed by UTS ART in partnership with Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research (JIIER). Established in 2018, the garden is located on level 6 of the UTS Tower.  'Nura' is a local word meaning country or the place that you are from. Let’s find out more.I’ve being talking with Alice McAuliffe who is a creative producer . Alice recalled that Waraburra Nura didn't start so much as a garden but as a way of creating a third dimension for artworks by various aboriginal and torres strait islander artists. Alice put forward a proposal the idea to put in a few boxes with plants initially but the idea grew. The process to create the garden involved designer Nicole Monk. Garden boxes were sent up from Melbourne. Garden soil had to be light so that the weight would not be too heavy for the balcony plus a possible 100 people. Aunty Fran Bodkin  (Dharawal Senior and botanist) advised that the soil should contain pumice. Plants were chosen because they had medicinal properties, and together created associations which increased their medicinal properties. This garden is open to the public on weekdays during student hours  'About the garden' section on the website states that “Waraburra Nura (Happy Wanderer’s Place) is a space for visitors to connect to Country in an urban environment. The garden utilises combination planting, an Indigenous agricultural practice which enhances the rich medicinal value of each plant. All of the plants in Waraburra Nura are native to Wa’ran (Sydney) and have been cultivated by Darug, D’harawal and Gadigal peoples for generations. If you have any questions about Waraburra Nura, drop us a line to realworldgardener@gmail.com or write to 2rrr PO Box 644 Gladesville NSW 1675

'About that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?” Jesus called a little child to him and put the child among them. Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. “And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf#18:5 Greek in my name. is welcoming me. But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to have a large millstone tied around your neck and be drowned in the depths of the sea. “What sorrow awaits the world, because it tempts people to sin. Temptations are inevitable, but what sorrow awaits the person who does the tempting. So if your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand or one foot than to be thrown into eternal fire with both of your hands and feet. And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.#18:9 Greek the Gehenna of fire. “Beware that you don’t look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels are always in the presence of my heavenly Father.#18:10 Some manuscripts add verse 11, And the Son of Man came to save those who are lost. Compare Luke 19:10. “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn’t wander away! In the same way, it is not my heavenly Father’s will that even one of these little ones should perish.' Matthew 18:1-10,12-14 https://my.bible.com/bible/116/MAT.18.1-10,12-14

She has become a strong advocate for 'self love'- meaning taking care of yourself first so that you can be as successful as you can be with others (she goes through her morning routine but you'll have to listen to find out what it is!). She believes that when you are happy and joyful in your own life, then you can have a greater impact on others and contribute to the change required on the planet. "My grandfather told us from the jump, ‘Don’t ever let color separate you from anything. Don’t the color of green get you into any kind of trouble with another color but always accept another color besides your color and because we can all be a family together. Don’t worry about whoever it is that hates your color. You were born this color for a reason and wear it with pride.’ That’s what I’ve been doing since that day. I’m not afraid to speak my mind because I’m black. I just pay attention to my surroundings at all times at 110% level." ----- Like many people throughout the country, I've been processing and thinking about all the current events happening since the murder of George Flloyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers. It's absolutely heartbreaking. I wanted to share this podcast episode that Leigh Anne Sharek and I shared on the Runners of NYC Podcast last month. I promise you that there will be more from me. I know in my role and with the platform that I've built, we can amplify, support and elevate Black voices. You can't make any progress or change in silence. So while I could have not posted any podcast this week, I'm re-posting this conversation onto the podcast feed with the most subscribers in our network because it deserves to be heard widely. Our guest for this episode is Coffey. He is a father, husband, filmmaker, Nike running pacer and the founder of Define New York Run Club. This conversation was on our schedule before the Ahmaud Arbery shooting but we take the first 30 minutes of our talk to address the story, its impact on him and how he relates to the likes of Ahmaud Arbery, Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin. We go back to his roots in North Carolina, how he got his start in fashion and filmmaking, why he got hooked on group running and then ultimately starting his own group. You may have seen him on recent episodes of ‘For Life’ but his big project has been the short film “About the People” which hosts a very powerful and honest conversation about social justice and inequalities by black and brown men at the hands of police brutality. Coffey was one of the writers on the film and drew some inspiration from the conversations he’s had to have with his oldest son on police brutality. Featuring specially commissioned music, and read by the author. Screwed-up England, and its characters, channelled in strange, twisted, funny, cartoon-like innovative fiction that grasps our times better than straight realism. A comical and brutal weave of parables gone wrong. Endland holds a broken mirror to England. In its garish but strangely familiar world of empty tower blocks, 24-hour cyber cafes and bomb sites, a motley collection of misfits, wanderers and charmed drunks do their best to survive. Nothing is stable in Endland, and what's more, the gods have started drinking at lunchtime, which can lead only to trouble. Conjured in a mix of slang, pub anecdote, folktale and science fiction, Endland is the nightmare unfolding just outside the window - a glitchy parade of ageing bikers and ghost children, cut-price assassins and witless wannabe celebs. The world fashioned by Thatcher, Google, NATO, ICANN, Brexit, Big Brother, Bin Laden, and Trump needs new narratives to make sense of it. In Endland, with feverish wit and a broken compass, Etchells unpicks the myths and strange realities we're caught up in.

'About the beginning of our Lord's thirtieth year, John the Forerunner, who was some six months older than our Saviour according to the flesh, and had lived in the wilderness since his childhood, received a command from God and came into the parts of the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance unto the remission of sins. Then our Saviour also came from Galilee to the Jordan, and sought and received baptism though He was the Master and John was but a servant. Whereupon, there came to pass those marvellous deeds, great and beyond nature: the Heavens were opened, the Spirit descended in the form of a dove upon Him that was being baptized, and the voice was heard from the Heavens bearing witness that this was the beloved Son of God, now baptized as a man (Matt. 3:13 17; Mark 1:9 11; Luke 3:1 22). From these events the Divinity of the Lord Jesus Chist and the great mystery of the Trinity were demonstrated. It is also from this that the present feast is called "Theophany," that is, the divine manifestation, God's appearance among men. On this venerable day the sacred mystery of Christian baptism was inaugurated; henceforth also began the saving preaching of the Kingdom of Heaven.' (Great Horologion)   When Thou was baptized in the Jordan, O Lord, the worship of the Trinity was made manifest; for the voice of the Father bare witness to Thee, calling Thee His beloved Son. And the Spirit in the form of a dove confirmed the certainty of the word. O Christ our God, Who hast appeared and hast enlightened the world, glory be to Thee. — Troparion of Theophany   'But Christ's descent into the river has also a further significance. When Christ went down into the waters, not only did he carry us down with Him and make us clean, but He also made clean the nature of the waters themselves... The feast of Theophany has thus a cosmic aspect. The fall of the angelic orders, and after it the fall of man, involved the whole universe. All God's creation was thereby warped and disfigured: to use the symbolism of the liturgical texts, the waters were made a "lair of dragons". Christ came on earth to redeem not only man but through man the entire material creation. When He entered the water, besides effecting by anticipation our rebirth in the font, he likewise effected the cleansing of the waters, their transfiguration into an organ of healing and grace.' Bishop Kallistos, "Background and meaning of the Feasts" in the Festal Menaion.   The western feast of Epiphany, also on this day, commemorates not Christ's baptism but the adoration of the Magi.

I can't believe we're marching towards the end of another year. This week we have a wide assortment of different movies we discuss and review this week. The big one is Martin Scorsese's return to the gangster epic realm in The Irishman. We also review a smaller 2019 release in the man vs. nature thriller, Arctic. We go all the way back to the 1970s to discuss a prison drama in Midnight Express. Then we go much lighter with two comedies in the raunchy buddy picture, Girls Trip and the time travelling romantic comedy, About Time.We had another great time recording this episode, even though you may notice we had a few technical issues (one review we had to keep on rerecording and I then turned into Alvin), but we aimed to deliver our usual insight and style of humour. On Episode 34 of Tourpreneur, the podcast for tour operators, we sat down with Checkfront who provide reservation software for tour operators, to find out more about the company and specifically how they can help tour businesses. An important element of selecting a booking platform for your tour business is getting a feel for the company, its mission and of course its employees. We can all take an online demo, read the publicity and the 'About' pages but will their values really align with yours? One of the main reasons we recommend Tourpreneur listeners attend events such as Arival is to meet the booking platform partners in person so you can assess if they are the right fit for your tour business We know that it is not always possible to attend events so as part of the Tourpreneur mission to flatten the learning curve for tour operators, we will bring you interviews with the main players in the booking software for tour and activity operators. First up, at ARIVAL Orlando, we spoke with Checkfront CEO Jason Morehouse, VP of Product Stephanie Brachat. We also invited Alan Rust of America Tour Company (here is story on Episode 8) for the tour operator perspective. Tourpreneur host Shane Whaley was armed with questions sent in by tour operators who wanted to know more about Checkfront. So sit back and hear more about them and how they feel they can help your business.

From early childhood, Deann Merchant longed to share her voice and music. But as you will hear Deann explain, it was a way to escape the neglect and abuse. Neglect that left her mostly toothless by age 16. As an adult, her musical passion would only be defeated by her lack of a toothy smile. She hid from the world. But Deann was determined to pursue her passion and she re-mortgaged her house to finance the implant of dentures that would physically allow her to sing, and emotionally free her to perform in public. Deann was fulfilling her life long dream and sharing her voice and music. She was the happiest she’d ever been. But then her dentures started to fail, and the nightmare of losing her ability to sing, and confidence to appear in public, vanished. That loss was compounded by 2 things: metal poisoning as the dental restoration leaked toxic elements into her body, and a dental industry without oversight or accountability. Deann shares how she’s evolved to be an advocate for people harmed by the dental industry.   SHOW NOTES Born Musician 0:05:10 Deann grew up in Massachusetts but her childhood was not stellar, she is an abuse and neglect survivor, this is important to her story because the abuse and neglect caused her to lose her teeth at 16 - she had a challenging and dysfunctional family 0:06:10 At 3 years old, Deann is on a bar room floor eating coke and chips - at 6 years old she was viciously abused for an undiagnosed physical ailment - at 9 years she watched her mother throwing a knife across a room - at 11 years Deann got tuberculosis because her father was dying in the house - and at 16 years old she lost her teeth 0:06:55 But underneath all that, Deann knew she had a voice and something to offer - music and singing - and that allowed her to survive - her family did not seek medical treatment or dental treatment 0:07:40 At 15 Deann got an abscess and the school finally stepped in and said Deann needs major dental work and it has to be addressed - but it was too late and too expensive to save them, so that had to be removed, except for bottom six 0:08:10 But because it was done to Deann before she had finished growing, it caused her upper jaw to atrophy immediately - over the years Deann became 'indentalist' / toothless because of the atrophy 0:09:10 This caused Deann to feel insecure - Deann has no doubt that had she been born into a loving and accepting family, she would have been on stage singing - but Deann's mother didn't want boys, girls were nothing to her, Deann was insignificant and a burden - this is set Deann up for adulthood in a really bad way 0:10:10 It made Deann hide with embarrassment and pain that she would be judged and couldn't do her craft of singing - all singers need teeth, saliva and all functioning - as Deann looks back, it looks like her mother knew singing and music was Deann passion and made it her sole purpose that Deann would never achieve that 0:11:40 Deann ended up with an upper denture and her 6 lower teeth - over the years because Deann couldn't use her molars to chew, she had to use her front and that caused her upper jaw to wear down, so that an upper denture couldn't be affixed         Going After Her Dreams   0:12:40 Because her upper denture was not properly modeled, it caused a lot of wear and tear on her gums over 27 years 0:13:40 Deann got married as a teenager, a mistake as she had no social and life skills to make a good decision - she grew up only hearing how stupid she was, how ugly, don't smile, don't talk, keep your head down, use your back because you don't have any brains - so when someone paid her positive attention, she was attracted to him 0:15:10 Her marriage lasted 10 years, but he was physically abusive, broke her dentures, black eyes, etc - but she had 3 boys and didn't want them to see or live in that same situation she grew up in - Deann had to escape the home to escape a death by her husband 0:17:10 Deann then met a man who changed her life - she credits him with supporting her to be the person she is today - he believed in her, encouraged her, positive reinforcement and encouraged her to pursue her passion for music, so they look into dental restoration in 2001 / 02 0:18:40 A dentist tried to take bone from her chin to use to reconstruct her upper jaw - but he was not prepared for such a severe case and it failed - Deann found another surgeon who said bone must be harvested from her hip so they could get enough for her jaw to support dental restoration 0:19:40 3 days in the hospital and Deann got 6 implants on the top and 3 implants on the bottom and everything went great, no problem - but then she goes to a prostodontist (specializes in bones of the face) 0:21:00 The prostotontist makes an overdenture (attachs to the implants) but Deann struggles to get it on and when she does it immediately feels like a vise grip causing pain - and it has remained that way for the last 14 years, causing constant pain 0:22:40 But at that time, Deann considered the dentures to be her second chance at life, at singing, the thing she'd been waiting her entire life and to have a functioning smile - so she ignored the pain and the prostodontist said there was no problem 0:23:30 9 years after the dental restoration, Deann realized her dentures were 'over loaded' causing biomechanical complications leading to implant failure           0:25:30 Deann has documented this on her website - she was experiencing a rash on her face, experiencing a metallic taste, throat burning and throbbing - she told the prostodontist that it felt like a vise grip on her face, but he said that her dentures fit - Deann fully trusted and bought into what he was saying - but she was still losing bone and tissue at an alarming rate and he did not pick up on that 0:26:40 Deann recognized a pattern among dentists is they always turn a problem around and blame the patient - one good thing about Deann's story is that she has proof 0:27:30 For the procedure, they make a model of the patients' mouth - and while the dentures fit the model perfectly, they had to be forced onto Deann's mouth - that should have been a red flag to the prostodontist but he ignored it - properly fitting dentures should feel like nothing 0:29:10 The prostodontist played on Deann's insecurity, blaming her - 2 things happened: a mis-installment, and the lab owner substituted material with chromium cobalt, poisoning Deann 0:30:40 Year after year, Deann complained about the dental restoration and they would make small adjustment to appease her - they kept telling her there was nothing wrong and that it must be her, and she believed them - but year after year she's getting sicker with fatigue, rashes, problems with her tattoos 28 years after she got them, digestive issues making her feel poisoned after she eats. 0:31:50 Deann hasn't been to a restaurant in 10 years, she can only eat once a day and needs to smoke marijuana to stimulate her appetitite and soften other symptoms - if she didn't take marijuana before she ate, she would start slurring her words, have trouble understanding others - the less she eats, the better she feels 0:32:50 Deann's research she finds a German researcher who says that swallowing the poisons from her dentures for many years causes digestive problems - only recently has the public become aware of the effects of cobalt, aluminum in the body 0:34:10 Nobody knows about metal poisoning, the US medical system doesn't have a lot of info about it and Deann couldn't find help - in November 2014 Deann had given up and was going to kill herself - she was a burden, she couldn't sing, she didn't know why she was sick - Deann also has MS (Multiple Sclerosis), diagnosed on her bladder and bowel issues and lesions in her brain         Cobalt Poisoning   0:35:20 Deann says important to know she was a heavy diet coke drinker and the nutrasweet can cause brain lesions - they prostodonist would use Deann's MS diagnosis as the cause of her symptoms, but the neurologist said her symptoms of metallic taste, rash, her hands would swell and get red if she touched metal 0:35:40 Deann then sees an allergist in Rhode Island and after examining Deann he said he's never seen a case like hers and didn't know if he could help her - Deann broke down crying, saying to him that he was her last hope and she can't continue - the allergist said that if this all started after dental work, has any one tested you for metals? 0:37:20 Testing showed cobalt - glowing like a nuclear reactor - in Deann's system - she then went to Dr Shalock in New York (who was working with the directors of the documentary, The Bleeding Edge) - Deann finds out she's also allergic to gold and tin - Deann goes to the lab that made her dentures with her allergy results 0:38:45 The lab gives Deann a copy of the chemical certificate for part of her denture - during this time she fired the prostodontist for working against her and poor work as he had messed Deann up so much she had trouble eating and speaking - this went on for 10 months 0:40:10 Deann started working directly with the lab owner fixed her lisp - Deann's musical career was taking off, but her dental work was preventing her from singing, from fulfilling her life's dream 0:41:10 The lab then used a 'system' and polyurethane to try to hold the denture in place - he told Deann he believed in the 'system' - but he lied, he'd sold the machine that made her prosthetic denture 0:42:10 Deann had audio taped some of her appointments, so she has evidence of what he said - she arranged a meeting with the lab owner - Deann brought her friend a nurse to the meeting - the lab owner accuses Deann of trying to hurt his reputation - Deann replied that he had watched her suffer and her health decline for 9 years, and that he only cared about himself 0:43:40 The lab owner said, 'good luck trying to convince the public, nobody is going to believe you' - in the following 4 years Deann lost her friends, her family turned on her and she has nobody to correct her mouth - he didn't just screw up her mouth, he screwed up her entire life 0:45:40 Deann couldn't find any help - not even her AG (Attorney General) - Deann filed a complaint with the Dental Board, supplying video and audio and witness statements, but she never got a reply - the lab owner refused to give Deann her file, told her to tell her attorney to request it     Re-mortgaging Her House   0:47:00 Deann makes a phone appointment with Harvard Dental School - Deann told the Harvard specialist that she was in a bind - Deann had re-mortgaged her house to pay for the $68,000 dental restoration but she's smileless, has to eat baby food, she's sick and struggles to eat and cognitively function - the only reason she is lucid for our interview is because she took medication 0:49:25 Deann's situation was completely avoidable: if the lab had not substituted metal in making the denture, and if the prostodontist had of listened to Deann about the denture not fitting and causing pain, we wouldn't be having this conversation - what really irks Deann is there is no oversight, they can do anything they want 0:50:10 Unless you can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt, you'll lose in court - and they will sue you - Deann can still be sued, and Deann cannot afford to be sued - she has audio and video evidence to prove her case beyond a shadow of a doubt, and she can't tell her story - she lives in fear and doing this podcast is a risk for her - she'd love to name names, but it would open her to attack 0:52:10 Dentist can jump into specialties without any real training - whatever will give them the most financial gain - originally only surgeons put in dentures, now dentists can take a course - they don't have to tell patients about their training - they love people who are uneducated 0:54:10 One of the 42 attorney's Deann contacted to take her case advised her to record her dental appointments - it is legal and admissable in court in Rhode Island - Deann has audio evidence of admission of knowledge of metals and improper fit - she has audio of admission that the way they decide what metals to use in dentures depends what is cheapest on the market that day 0:55:20 While the prostodontist advertised using all titanium and not precious metals because they are a nightmare - Deann is living that nightmare - Deann has a 5 year old granddaughter who wants to be a performer like her grandmother, but Deann can't visit with her because she's too sick 0:56:40 Deann asks: Is if fair they re-mortaged their home in good faith, while they're enjoying the fruits of their deceitful behavior - Deann hopes that if listeners get nothing else from her story, that they should be their own advocate - Deann went from working out 6 days a week, rode motorcycles, hiking, and now she can't get off the couch 0:58:10 Deann whole system is being poisoned - lungs, stomach, mucus and they think cobalt goes into her organs - her immune system is overwhelmed and she can't fight any viruses and susceptible to everything going around - doctors think her glands in her throat have been poisoned - she has chronically dry mouth       Dental Deception   1:01:10 She has to keep her conversations short - and has to hold the phone away from her ear - Deann tells patients to make sure to eliminate and rule out other diagnosis 1:02:40 Re Harvard, she was told to call the prostodontist secretary to make an appointment - Deann calls and emails but receives no response - so Deann ends arranging treatment in Costa Rica 1:05:10 Then she gets an email saying they can't do the procedure, try other dentists in Costa Rica - Deann asks for an explanation - they say how dare she record professionals and put it on the internet - Deann later found out that dentist worked for an American company 1:07:10 When she was first diagnosed with metal poisoning, it was hard for Deann to accept that ADA (American Dental Association) approved device would cause harm - know she understands they are just labels that don't mean anything because there is no oversight 1:08:40 How many labs are doing this to people like Deann, going to specialists to try to find out why they're sick - she got called a hypochondriac - Deann fell through the health care cracks as a child and its happening again 1:11:10 This is more than Deann's smile - she worries if she'll get cancer - and she'll have to pay out of pocket again to get her mouth fixed, to correct the damage they made - a bitter pill to swallow 1:12:10 Deann has become an advocate - she hates injustice - she started just telling her story on her website, but was finding others with dental errors - Deann found Tina Gomes, already a dental advocate and about transparency when dentists err, as the public has a right to know - 10 years later she's still fighting for that 1:13:10 Deann found a video of a dentist who was doing to surprise his client with a new smile - no permission, no informed consent - the client cried with joy - Deann thought the dentist was incredible, what he was doing for people...but something didn't feel right, so she investigated and found he was reprimanded by the dental board for selling prescription drugs 1:14:40 Deann then found a video of him being interviewed about his dental business, but Deann could see the host, a dentist, was uncomfortable with the answers he was getting - they were hyperbolic 1:16:10 The research in the last few years all say there needs to be more study of long term effects - so dental professionals who claim their dentures will last a lifetime - that is not true - Galvanism has been taught in dental school since the '50s     Galvanism   1:17:10 They're taught not to mix metals in the mouth, creating Galvanism - any 2 dissimilar metals in a liquid medium, like saliva, is creating current - you are a walking battery - this is what happened to Deann 1:18:10 Public told these devices are safe - the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has received 2.1 million complaints about failed dental restoration - last 10 years peri implantitis has become a major problem - has something to do with substandard metals put in people's mouths - no long term studies 1:19:10 Deann knows a woman who went to a periodontist who said he does dental restoration - Deann told her to ask for the chemical certificate, he says he doesn't have it - Deann advises her to leave, stop giving him money - in an email he said he'd remove one tooth, and no implants 1:20:10 He gives her medication before the procedure that makes her loopy - the periodontist asks her husband to sign the release - she left the procedure still with the tooth that was to be pulled, and with 2 implants - she has a pace maker and is allergic to aluminum - so she has no idea what's in her mouth 1:21:25 Deann advised her to call an attorney, but she was too afraid - Deann's website is WelcomeToDDS.com - Dee's Dental Story - she also has a group for people to share their stories and information - she also has Dee's Dental Disaster page on Facebook - and keeps them updated 1:22:40 But people are afraid to complain because they can be attacked - Deann is willing to stand up and point her finger, but she can't - she shouldn't have to suffer and lose her best friend, her voice, that helped her get through the other bad times by singing or humming to herself - and to loose that, she might as well be dead 1:23:55 Deann's music can be found on SoundCloud under Deann Merchant - also on Reverb Nation - from folk to rock to blues - from Whitney Houston to Janis Joplin - Deann only had 7 years behind the mic, but it was the best 7 years of her life 1:25:10 She created her own music, raised funds for a rescue charity - she has 2 entries on DustMyBroom.nl - the validation by her musical peers that she had something to offer means a lot to Deann 1:26:40 Deann will continue with her advocating, but it is hard for her to keep up with the stories from patients - so she educates so people don't end up like Deann - we're brainwashed to believe only people in white coats know what's going on - others like Tina Gomes, Susan Chenesey and other advocates trying to change things, bring awareness, do the research     Becoming An Advocate   1:28:10 Deann's basic premise is to remember Galvanism, that what is placed in your mouth affects your whole body - comparing with organ donation, you need a donor with the same blood type, tissue type, even then require meds to stop organ rejection - but dental industry puts all these alloy together that will increase their profits - no blood levels, no medication, no long term study 1:29:40 Then pain, memory, vision problems - Dr Towers on The Bleeding Edge said that if it didn't happen to him personally, he would never have beleived it - dentists take info from device manufacturer as gospel and put it in your body - what goes in your mouth affects the whole body 1:30:40 Doesn't matter where in the body, hip, knee, toxic materials are released - Deann got involved in the Esure contraceptive controversy - because some of them were having dental problems, rashes on their body 1:31:40 Deann doesn't think metal can be put in a human body and not expect a reaction - no better advocate for a patient then yourself - but the dental professionals say the patient is the problem - so do your due diligence 1:32:55 Deann reads from a government website: "From 1995 these facts have been available but ignored. Overload, rather than component design, is the primary factor in the majority of prosthetic and implant failures. Safegaurding the long term integrity of the restoration, should be a shared responsibility between the patient and the health care team. As orthodentology increases at an exponential rate, it is extremely important to keep abreast of the latest advancements. 1:33:55 Deann advises to make sure they explain dental restoration start to finish - had Deann known and understood what a 'passive system' meant in 2005 she would have made them fix it - but she didn't have informed consent 1:34:30 Understanding Galvanism and how important it is before you go to a dental office so you don't end up like Deann - her website motto is "learn from my mistake - don't become one" 1:35:40 Deann encourages people to visit her website The Empowered Patient - take advantage of the info that is there - take advantage learn about metals and anatomy - and listen to your instinct - don't take dentist words as gospel     Connect with Deann Merchant   Dental Website: Http://www.WelcometoDDS.com   Pages of interest: The Empowered Patient - educational page for patients Share Your Story - The Patients Page - houses patient stories/comments Kindred Journeys - Creative outlet on personal harm (If you use a computer, music will play automatically. "'About 800 years ago in the time of Rumi was a massive time of shift in the west. The 13th century when Rumi lived was a major upgrade. Humanity - those were in tune to it, obviously not everyone - they received an upgrade which was a very important message that spirituality is not about blood sacrifice, it's not about getting your knowledge from books... it's about tapping into yourself. Have a little bit of compassion and you're going to go far. It's simple. You have to keep it simple, it's 2000 years ago [laughter]. And 800 years ago with Rumi, his message was earth-shattering: that there is no Father, Son and Holy Ghost which is a trilogy that's been used for a long time in religion - that God lives in your heart, as you. Very poetic message, but that's about as far as you could go 800 years ago. So what Rumi did was he brought the outside deity and merged it in you -unified it with you as a preparation for today's message: that there is no outside deity. There is Universal energy of course - it's Love energy - but you, in fact, are the deity. You are the deity. That is the message. That is the next level." - Shahram Shiva Find us at www.liberatehollywood.comFind Shahram Shiva at www.shahramshiva.com Join Shahram Shiva at Liberate Hollywood December 12th, 2018 from 7 - 9 PM for his workshop on The 12 Laws Of Self-Realization. The 6 Steps to using Content Marketing to create your Personal Brand Intro:                          Welcome to the Gay Business and Marketing Made Easy Podcast, where you'll learn how to do business with and market to the LGBT community in an authentic and transparent way. We're talking about an $884 billion lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. We'll help you grow your business, gain market share, and impact your bottom line. And now your host; she teaches straight people how to market to gay people, and gay people how to market themselves. Your professional lesbian, Jenn- with two N's, T. Grace.   Well hello and welcome to episode number 78 of the Gay Business and Marketing Made Easy Podcast. I am your host, Jenn Grace, and today we are going to talk about personal branding, content marketing, and being an author all in six simple steps. So content marketing, personal branding, authorship are completely intertwined in what I want to talk about today. You don't have to have one to do the other, there's no kind of contingency on any of them. But what I want to provide to you today are basically six steps into providing a framework for all of this to make sense. So I want to talk about taking an inventory of what you've already done, strategically coming up with some kind of content plan, mind mapping your ideas, putting those ideas into an outline, planning and scheduling your time, and then getting it done. So that is what we're going to talk about in today's episode, I hope you enjoy it.                                     The last couple of episodes that I've been sharing with you have been around planning to become an author in 2016, and talking about confidence, and the most recent episode we talked about the five fears that new LGBT authors have and how to conquer them basically. So I'm kind of going along the theme of authorship in this episode, however it's much bigger than that, and what I mean by that is that the topic of today's podcast is around content marketing, and it stemmed from my second week's class with the authors that I'm working with right now. So as I mentioned in the last podcast, they are working with me from February 1st through April 30th, and each week we're going through a lot of information almost to probably an overwhelming degree for a lot of them. But we're trying to cover a lot so they can ultimately have a book at the end of the ninety days that we have together. And one of the things that I was talking with them about in the last week is about taking an inventory of the content that they have, and how they can basically apply that to potentially their book and telling their story. So as I was thinking about that, I was thinking how can I share this information, and not really what I talked about in the author program itself, but kind of how can I share information around content marketing bigger and more broadly? So basically what I want to cover is content marketing kind of from a big picture level, and how you can use that in your business. So in building your personal brand really. So one of the things that I have been doing for a really long time is working with businesses around content marketing specifically. And content marketing is a little bit of a buzzword and kind of has been a buzzword for a couple of years now I would say. But really when we're talking about content marketing, it's around blogging, and podcasting, and writing for other people's blogs, guest posting, putting out newsletters, and being on other people's podcasts as being interviewed there, and doing videos, and all these types of things that basically are content that you're putting out to the universe. So if you're building your personal brand, you have to find what you stand for. So if we're looking at- and this all kind of ties together in terms of authorship. So as part of your personal brand, you could absolutely be an author. You don't have to be, but being an author is certainly going to help you catapult your personal brand.                                     So if we're talking about content marketing as it relates to personal branding, and really building your personal brand, it's really a matter of identifying what it is that you want to talk about. What is your niche? And of course starting with the obvious of what's your business? So what is it that you do? I know that there's a lot of business owners listening to this, so it could vary. You could be an accountant, you could be a financial advisor, you could be a consultant, you could be a motivational speaker; there's just a bunch of things that you could be doing. And I know for myself that when I started off my business, I've been in business since 2004, but it's absolutely morphed and changed shape a variety of times over the years. And this most recent iteration of my business being a professional lesbian began in November of 2012. So I'm going into the fourth year here, and in doing so everything I've done to this point has really been around content marketing. And I don't necessarily- I wish I could say that this was really intentional in the beginning, but it really wasn't intentional until probably about a year, maybe a year and a half in, where I realized that your personal brand stands for so much more. So if you are beginning your kind of personal brand journey now, you can be looking to get a domain name that has your name as the domain name. So for me I have www.JennTGrace.com. And a side note, a funny little fun fact is that I could not get www.JennGrace.com. So I had to throw the 'T' in there to make sure that I could get something as close to my name as I could. And it is my name obviously, but I really would have preferred Jenn Grace, and not sounding so formal with the 'T,' but alas I wanted to make sure my brand all matched, therefore I had to go with the Jenn T Grace on everything. So that's kind of how that happened. But I would encourage you to make sure you have your domain name. I know that most of the people that I work with right now already have it. There are times- I'm actually working with a client right now who cannot get her name no matter how hard we tried. We even tried to negotiate with the person who owns it via GoDaddy and they're not willing to give it up even though they're not using it. So there's a lot of variables with that kind of stuff. But you can do- depending on what you're doing, like if you're trying to build a platform for speaking you could do- put 'Speaks' at the end of it. So I could do www.JennGraceSpeaks.com for example. Or you can do JennGraceAuthor. There's a lot of different variables, but you really want to try to get as close to your name as possible and make it simple for people to find.                                     So that's just kind of a small simple tip in terms of having a home base if you will to drive people to. So if you have your website and it's not your name, that's fine too. If it's your business name, and you want to start putting out content, then as long as you have a place to bring people back to, that's the end goal. You don't want to be posting all of your blog posts just on LinkedIn but not on your own website. You want to make sure that you're driving people from social media, from the interwebs to your website so you can work on getting people to subscribe to what you're doing and all that kind of stuff.                                     As I had said I was not completely intentional about it when I began. I really began wanting to do this podcast, so I was having a couple of conversations in one day with some really amazing people and thought, 'Wow they have such brilliance to share. I need people to be a fly on the wall to listen to this conversation and hear their great wisdom.' And it was shortly thereafter that day I was like, 'That's what I need to do. I need to do a podcast so I can interview people, and I can talk about these really interesting things, and really just allow people to kind of see the inside look at all of what makes these LGBT leaders and allies amazing people. So it did start off with just a podcast and then I realized, 'Alright so if I'm going to do a podcast, I'm definitely going to have to do some blogging here,' and then the blogging turned into writing a book, and the book turned into creating videos, and it all kind of transpired from there. But one of the things- and this was what I wanted to talk to you about today is really just trying to take an inventory of all of the things that you've done in the past that could tie into your personal brand. So if you're looking at your career path. So you may have had three businesses by now. Just because business number one doesn't have anything to do with business number three, the common denominator there is still you, and you being the brand. So if you may have worked for an insurance company, and happen to be a rock star, and you got a whole bunch of awards for what you were doing, but now you are running a fitness empire. Yes, the two of those things have nothing to do with one another in any way, shape, or form, but the common piece there is you. So how can you leverage the fact that you were an award winning insurance agent maybe, and now you're an award winning fitness guru. So it's a matter of trying to find ways to marry the two of those, and the first place to start is by creating a list of all of the awards that you've ever received based on what jobs you held, what roles you were in, what business you happened to own at the time, and all of that kind of stuff.                                     From there what I would recommend is gathering articles. So I guess we can say that was number one. Number one is what are the awards that you've won, and gathering all that stuff. So number two would be looking at any articles that you've been featured in. So thinking about articles in the newspaper, or a magazine whether it's industry specific, or whether it's a national magazine, or a local newspaper versus national paper; going in and trying to find all of those places that have either focused on you specifically, or they have mentioned you, and start that list. So now you have two lists going.                                     So the third one would be is blog posts. So where- if you have guest posted on other people's blogs, where has that been? Do you have a concrete list of all the places that you've contributed? Make a list of that. Same thing with podcasts. So if you've been interviewed on other people's podcasts, write it down, get it in a list. So at this point- so we're basically looking at a variety ways, a half dozen ways of gathering places that you've- taking an inventory of all these different places that you've been published, or you've been talked about, or the awards you won, the articles, the blog posts, the podcasts, all these different places. This is all kind of the foundation for what could be a content marketing strategy. So a strategy- it has to have a strategy behind it. You can just start saying how great you are on social media, or how great you are on your website, and only doing that. So it's just one piece of the puzzle is getting the inventory of this stuff.                                     The other thing I would say in terms of taking inventory is reviewing your website copy; so any of the writing that's on your website whether it's the 'About' page, or maybe it's a 'Services' page, or your 'Home' page. Grabbing all of that information too, and just reviewing it and seeing what type of content you have there, is there opportunity for you to weave in some of the other things that we talked about? Is there a way for you to weave in articles, or blog posts, or podcasts and make them very natural in part of that conversation? So reviewing your website, reviewing your blog content. So are you getting the most mileage out of your blog content? That is a huge, huge question for so many people. Or are you getting the most mileage out of past newsletters? Are your past newsletters currently blog posts? Or are blog posts into newsletters? So if you're going to create a piece of content, find a way to use that piece of content in 1,000 different ways. There are so many different ways that you can use it, may as well leverage all of it. So to me, if I'm going to work with a client and I'm going to convince them that they need to spend their precious resources on sitting down and spending two hours on writing a piece of content, and they're a very busy CEO that needs to be focused on sales calls and all kinds of stuff, and that two hours of time is really valuable to them. I'm not going to just say, "Hey thank you for writing this 600-800 word piece of blog content," posting it on the blog, and then just leaving it at that. It's far more than that. It's looking at that blog content and saying, okay how can we re-purpose this? Can we pitch this to a publication as some kind of guest post? Could we talk to other people in our space and say, 'Hey I have this interesting information, is this something you want to put on your post?' Or oh the newsletter is going to come up in a couple of weeks, can we put this information in the newsletter? Of course all of these different scenarios you have to modify the language a little bit, but the substance and the meat of that information remains the same. So if you're talking about a specific topic, maybe the intro and the outro of that topic change a little bit based on the audience, and where it's going, and if it's an article versus a newsletter versus a blog post. In looking at it that way, yeah we're going to have to change the content a little bit to make sure that it resonates with the audience. So yeah we'll have to change the content a little bit to make sure it resonates with the audience, but ultimately it's re-purposing that one blog post that you may have spent two hours on, and putting it in six, seven, eight different places to really start to gather and create more traffic to your website, and ultimately the hope would be to convert leads once people get to your website. So convincing them that they should pick up the phone and call you, or to download something, or reach out to you.                                     So another piece of this is thinking about the strategy for your content. So I just said it's kind of like step one. So step one is basically taking an inventory. So step two is more of what- how can I strategically use this information? So we just talked about how you can use your website content, your blog content, newsletters, podcasts, all that kind of stuff is intertwined, and really kind of in harmony to drive your end goal. But in terms of a strategy, one of the things that I did- and I know a lot of authors who are doing this now, is when I started writing on my blog in November of 2012, it was really starting off with the podcast, but when I started writing I knew I was going to use the information at some point somewhere else. And again I didn't really- I wasn't coming from a personal branding side of things. I wasn't trying to figure out how to build my personal brand. All my goal at the time was to help educate people, and it's still a huge, huge part of my goal is to educate people on LGBT stuff. But I knew as I was writing these blog posts that I would do something with them eventually, and it wasn't fully thought out, but in hindsight, and something you could learn, is that if you say, "My end goal is to have a book by the end of 2016. And I write to my blog twice a week," maybe it's once a week, maybe it's once every two weeks, maybe it's once a month. Whatever the frequency is, so you can put that content together each week as you go throughout the year so by the time you get to the end of the year, you have all of the content available, you basically just have to marry it all together into something that creates a book. So if you're talking about one topic that goes in with the second topic, you're going to have to create- going in and adding paragraphs and making sure that the flow is right, and making sure that the chapters flow well. But the beauty is that you would have all of that information to work with rather than sitting there in November saying, "Crap I said in 2016 I'm going to write a book, and now I have to write 30,000 words. So it's a matter of really thinking strategically; instead of having to write 30,000 words at once, how can I write thirty blog posts that are 1,000 words each and marry them together into a book by the end of the year? So it's really thinking from a big strategic level of how to do that. So as I mentioned in my first book which is, 'But You Don't Look Gay,' and it's The Six Steps to Creating a Successful LGBT Marketing Strategy. What I did is when I first started, the first half of that book really is a lot of information about who the community is, the buying power of the community, some of the bigger marketing tips of understanding why people use the rainbow in their marketing, giving some data, and that kind of stuff. All of that information was taken from past blog posts. And again, I didn't have the strategy at first for how I was doing this, so it was completely disjointed when I started working with it, but the content was all there. So I probably had I would say 15,000 words to work with probably at the very least, and I was able to move things around, and really just bridge these thoughts together, but it was a little more cumbersome because when I was writing it to begin with, I wasn't writing it with an end goal of, 'I'm going to put this in a book.' However probably midway through 2013, I guess maybe it was even in early 2013, I had the thought of creating a series of blog posts that all tied together in one topic, which happens to be the six steps. So I think when I was doing it I had created five steps. So it was what are the five steps to creating a really good strategy? And I would write it saying, "Okay so this week we're going to talk about step one of five," and I would write a blog post about it, sometimes it's 600 words, sometimes it's 1,000 words, and then I would say, "Come back next week and we'll get into number two. And then we'll get into number three." So it was a series that lasted over the course of five weeks, and that one- that information is the second half of that first book. So it was so easy because I had already written it with a natural flow from chapter to chapter essentially. So because I had that in mind of, 'I'm going to make a book, like this is definitely going to be the foundation of my book,' it was really, really easy to take those blog posts that really already flowed well together, and putting them in the second half of that book.                                     So going a little bit further along, I created my second book in 2014, and that one is, 'No Wait, You Do Look Gay,' and it's The Seven Mistakes that Prevent People from Being Able to Sell to the Community. And that one was very artfully crafted over the course of probably ten months, maybe a little bit longer, of here's all the things that I want to include in this book, and oh by the way I have six months of blog content that I have to come up with. Let me make sure it's both. So in essence, somebody could go to my website and go through every blog post I've ever written, which is over 400 at this point, it's probably closer to 450, which would be a total pain in the ass of having to go in, and try to find things, and sometimes it's logically setting up for the next thing to read, but most of the time not, and not intentionally, just how the website's structured. Or you could just buy the book for $10 and make it easy on yourself, and have it laid out beautifully for you.                                     So I guess the thing that the book has that the blog posts don't have is there's additional content and context for building the business case, and building the business case for this book itself. So from that standpoint, this is something that anybody can do. So I know that I've been talking about authorship, and really becoming an author in 2016, but you can totally be tag-teaming this approach. You could be working on a content marketing strategy, and working on a book at the exact same time, and using that same information in both places. And of course for- I don't know if it's an ethical reason, I don't even know what to call it. You don't want it to be completely identical. So I made sure that when I was writing both of the books that I'm adding a little more information in the book because I want people to feel like they're getting a value from it. In the grand scheme of things, you can probably figure out 85% of it on the website itself without ever having to get the book, but again it's the convenience and the ease of having the book to look at, and to guide you through the process.                                     So if you already have content, and going back to that inventory of taking an inventory of where you've been seen, but then also things that you've produced, there's probably a good chance that you have the foundation- a big foundation of being able to put a book together in a relatively short period of time, because you already have a lot of it, you just have to start putting it together like a puzzle. So in terms of the content marketing strategy- So there's taking the inventory, and then there's having a strategy for what you're going to do with that information. And the content marketing might flow into a book, maybe you don't want to write a book, and that's fine too. I think that a lot of people have it in mind that they can sit and just spend an hour and write 600 words for a blog post, and that doesn't have to do anything else, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.                                     So if you do want to go down the road of creating a book, and again this is probably applicable if you're just trying to figure out a content marketing strategy. The third step would be figuring out basically what your outline would look like. So if we think, 'Hey we started at the top, we took an inventory of everything we have, and now we have these stacks of stuff that we can use and they're all over here on this side of the desk, and now we are strategically looking at what we want to do with this information whether it's just producing on the blog- I guess podcast too, on the blog or podcast, or producing a book with this information eventually. The next piece would be coming up with an outline. So even if you don't want to write a book, it still would be in your best interest to have some kind of road map, or some kind of outline to follow, which could be part of the overall strategy. But having some tactical road map that basically says, 'Okay on Tuesdays I'm going to write communication tips, and on Fridays I'm going to write marketing tips. And every other week I'm going to do an interview.' So that way you at least have an outline for what you're trying to accomplish. And I use those examples because when I started my blog I was writing twice a week, and I'm not going to lie, it was a lot of work. But now four years later I have 450 blog posts that are just kind of out there in the universe, and when someone goes to Google and they're looking for something around LGBT and marketing, a lot of times I'm the one that shows up because I have so much information out there for it. But you can save yourself a lot of time and headache if you come up with an outline. So I was doing my Communications Tuesdays, and every Tuesday I would write something about a faux pas that people say or do, or a term that you might not want to use, or one you would prefer to use. And then on Fridays it was very tactical and marketing driven. So what's a step to launching a successful strategy? What's step one? What's step two? And those were always on Fridays.                                     So if we're looking at it from that standpoint, you can take route one, or route A, whatever we want to call it, and say, 'Alright I'm just going to focus on getting content out there. I'm not trying to do a book.' So pick a day of the week that you want to release your blog, podcast, whatever it happens to be, and pick a theme, and then go from there. And they don't have to tie together, but if you want to figure out how to use this for a book down the road, actually put together an outline of a book. So you don't have to have any of it written, don't get stressed out about, 'Oh I don't even know what I would write.' Just start putting together an outline of your thoughts, and from there you can totally create this outline that turns into your roadmap of, okay chapter one has to be on general high level who the LGBT community is. Chapter two can go into the more nitty gritty details of the LGBT community. Maybe it talks about the 'L' of the community. Chapter three talks about the 'G' of the community. Chapter four, the 'B.' Chapter five, the 'T.' Chapter six, okay now you know all this information, why is it important? I guess really think through what people ask you the most about, what are those common questions? What is your process and your methodology for how you walk a client through whatever product or service it is that you sell? Because that's really going to be the framework of what could be your outline to your book, and also an outline as part of your content marketing strategy.                                     You may be listening to this and thinking, 'I have never written an outline for anything, let alone a book.' So what I could recommend doing is mind mapping your ideas. Mind mapping is really just grabbing a piece of paper, writing down your central idea in the center of it, and then just branching off, drawing lines that come out from that center that are different pieces of information or topics around your business that you would want to talk about. And if you just go to Google and type in 'mind maps,' there are tons and tons and tons of information, and pictures, and how to's of actually creating a mind map. But it's really simple. Grab a piece of paper, write in the middle 'LGBT marketing,' and from there what are all the pieces that people would need to know about LGBT marketing? It could be the same thing for financial advisors. So if you're an advisor and you're listening to this, circle financial advisor, that's who you are, you're in the center of it. Who are the clients you work with? What are the questions they ask? Where are you doing business? All of the things that could be beneficial to your end customer to hear. Or maybe your end customer- maybe you're not trying to get customers, maybe you have a different goal of your book. But regardless, starting with the mind map, and then from the mind map you can create an outline because then you can start grouping things together. So even though it might look like a big, crazy, chaotic mess of information on a page, you might look at it kind of high level and say, 'Alright for some reason there's a lot of chatter about marketing tactics. Let me just grab all of those and put them aside in one place.' Or 'There's a lot of chatter about words that you shouldn't say. Let me put all those on this side of the page.' And then eventually it becomes really clear, 'Oh wow, there's actually a story arc here, there's a structure here. I couldn't see the forest through the trees before to see that there's a structure, but there's totally a structure.' So really from that mind map stage it's a matter of creating- it's going back to the outline. So you either create the outline first, or you use a mind map to help you create the outline. So those are kind of like steps three and four kind of combined.                                     And then from there you just plan and schedule your time of essentially how you're going to get it done. So if you decide that, 'Hey my outline has enough for fourteen chapters, I'm going to try to write 1,000 words each for each of these fourteen chapters. So now we have 14,000 words.' That's great but how are you going to do that? Are you going to block out time on your calendar? Are you going to reserve certain days of the week to focus on your writing? Are you going to write say every morning from 8:00 to 8:30, and when 8:30 hits, the buzzer goes off, you're done? Are you going to do it for four hours on a Friday? Are you going to focus one day a month? There's a million different ways you can do this, you just have to do it with what works best for you. For me it used to be focusing on writing for a little bit every day. I used to do usually between 8:00 and 9:00 AM, I would do my writing. And then once that was up, I was done, and I moved on. And now I really morphed into- by the time I get to the place where I want to write something, I have it in my mind pretty concretely, and it's just a matter of getting it out of my head and on paper. So I wrote a blog post- one of the January blog posts, I ended up writing it in like 21 minutes, and I do time myself just to see, whereas when I first started this about four years ago, that easily could have been something that took me three hours to do. So of course you basically- you get better as you go through. And it takes a while, there's a lot of process involved, but it's a matter of scheduling it and make time for it.                                     And then of course the last step would be if you're going to schedule it and make time for it, then you have to actually do the work, that's the big piece. So you actually have to get it done. So that could be just using a Word document, that could be getting a product like Scrivener, which is a product specifically for writing whether it's blog posts, books, whatever it happens to be. It's a really helpful tool, I happen to love it. I'll make sure I include a link in the show notes for that, and just as a side note the link for today's show would be www.JennTGrace.com/78 for episode number 78.                                     So yeah, so I know I just kind of spewed out a lot of information all at once, and maybe it didn't come out- I'm thinking as I'm talking it became more clear as I went along, but it's really what we're talking about, is the six steps to creating a content marketing plan that could eventually evolve into a book. Or the six steps to creating a book that could evolve into a content marketing plan. So it's really just those six steps of taking an inventory, creating a strategy, outlining and then mind mapping, or mind mapping and then outlining depending on what your process is. Planning and scheduling, and then getting it done.                                     So yeah, that I'm sure I have raised far more questions than I have answered, but I hope that today's episode gives you at least a little bit of a framework of how you can use content marketing in your business, how you can use it as part of your personal brand, how you can have that evolve into being an author by the end of 2016 if that's what you're trying to do, or if you're listening to this podcast and it's 2017, it's all still applicable. Everything I'm talking about is totally an evergreen topic, meaning this is something that you can do regardless of when in a period of time this happens to be that you're listening to it. So for anyone listening to this, I would strongly encourage you to reach out, whether you leave a comment in the blog post that this podcast is on, whether you comment on it in LinkedIn, send me a tweet, send me a note on Facebook; wherever you happen to be, I probably am too, and I would love to hear your thoughts on this because I really am thinking I would like to go into more detail on content marketing from a really big picture level, and just helping give you kind of that step by step advice. I am currently working with a fair amount of really large companies who I'm helping with their content marketing strategy, and it's something that I really love doing. And to be perfectly honest, I've never really marketed it. Like it's not something- like to me I'm teaching straight people how to market to gay people, and gay people how to market themselves. That is my tagline, I'm still sticking entirely true to that, but because my business is built on content marketing, I do have a lot of companies that reach out to me to say, "Hey, how did you do that? How did you build it? Can you build it for us?" And of course I would love to build it for them, because as long as it has some tie into what we're talking about in terms of the LGBT market, then it's a win-win for everybody, and that's kind of how I prefer to do things.                                     So anyway, if you want to reach out to me on social media, by all means please do. If you want to contact me, you can do so on my website. And if I threw out things that are not clear to you, please email me and ask for clarification, and I can certainly do a follow-up episode about this. And yeah, we can kind of go from there.                                     So I hope you enjoyed today's episode, and we will talk in episode number 79. Talk to you soon.                                     Thank you for listening to today's podcast. If there are any links from today's show that you are interested in finding, save yourself a step and head on over to www.JennTGrace.com/thepodcast. And there you will find a backlog of all of the past podcast episodes including transcripts, links to articles, reviews, books, you name it. It is all there on the website for your convenience. Additionally if you would like to get in touch with me for any reason, you can head on over to the website and click the contact form, send me a message, you can find me on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter all at Jenn T Grace. For busy entrepreneurs, the About page of a website is one of the easiest to put off. You might throw a few vital details up there, like your name (always a good place to start) and your credentials, and promise yourself to fill it out later. Maybe you even go back and try adding some details that paint a fuller picture of you as a person. But for many, no matter how hard they work on it, their About page just falls flat. It feels fake, like you’re pretending to be someone you’re not. And that makes sense—we’re all taught never to brag about ourselves…so it feels pretty strange to suddenly write a whole page about why your customers should think you’re so great! That’s why I’m so happy to introduce you to Melissa Cassera. She’s a publicity expert (as well as a screenwriter and an actress), and if you read her own About page, you can see that she is an expert on how to write about yourself in a way that comes out warm, genuine and authentically irresistible. Why Is An About Page Important? Melissa compares the About page to the gown a Hollywood actress wears on the “red carpet.” It’s the way to show off both your importance and your individuality at once, impressing people and engaging them at the same time. The About page is where you give people just enough information about you to want to know more. In other words, you don’t want to give away the whole story on your About page—it’s their intro to all the excitement that awaits if they choose to work with you. For the reader, it should feel like they’ve met you in person, looked you in the eye and shaken your hand. So how do you convey that feeling in words? Think About How You Serve the World Rather than begin by talking about what you do, begin your About page with a line or two about why you do it. This should be the element that guides you through the writing process for your About page. If you get stuck or are wondering if you are including the right kinds of details, ask yourself if what you’ve written paints a picture of the world/society/lifestyle/change that you are trying to build with what you do. Hear more of Melissa's tips on how to make your About page shine. Listen to the full interview here.   Make Your Credentials Fun It’s important to list the things that give your business credibility—an advanced degree, an impressive title or certification, a number of years in your field or successful working relationships with noteworthy people. But rather than just list them, Melissa advises having fun with them! Try translating your credentials into an analogy that helps your audience understand what that kind of cred means in your industry. (“I attended the Harvard of health coaching schools” is a good example.) By listing your credentials this way, you can use your bragging rights to gain your readers’ trust and build engagement. This, Melissa says, is what really seals the emotional connection with people and allows them to get to know you on a more personal level. Not only that, but this section is what sets you apart from your competition. Nobody else has the same story, the same style, the same lovable quirks and personal motivations that you have. As Melissa says in her "Better Bio Challenge" blog post, "Personal details aren’t 'frivolous' — they anchor you in the reader’s mind and showcase the 'person' behind the 'business.' Try to include at least ONE little detail about your passions, guilty pleasures + personal life, in your bio — and you’ll sparkle off the page, every time." Counterbalance Your Accomplishments If your About page starts feeling a little self-indulgent, Melissa says an easy way to lighten it up is to “show your brushstrokes.” After mentioning the glowing review of your program on the Today Show, drop in a reference to that one time you tried to teach a college class and sat on a whoopee cushion. Details like this help keep you human to your readers, and show them that you’re the same as them—just a little farther along in the journey toward success. Offer Fun Facts Like the “non-professional life” part of your About page, this part is meant to connect with your ideal audience in a way that nothing else can. Tell a few “secrets” about yourself—that you cover your eyes during the scary parts of movies, that puppy videos make you cry, that your favorite place to work is in your kids’ treehouse. Be forewarned—this will turn off some people. But they are the right people for you to turn off. At the end of the day, Melissa says, your About page is not meant to engage every single person out there. “Your bio or About Page is only intended to turn on your ideal customers and it should be repelling the people that you want to turn off.” Create an “Action Step” By now, your audience has fallen head over heels in love with you…so what’s the next step? Where does the relationship go from here? Melissa says this is the moment to offer them a concrete action step. Offer a free opt-in gift, list links to your five most popular blog posts, tell them to contact you to set up a consultation. Whatever your specific action step is, make it simple and immediate for them to make the next move. Get more of Melissa's suggestions for making your About page actionable. Click here to hear the full interview. The Bottom Line: What Is Fame For?  Melissa has a stellar blog post called “Four Questions to Help You Identify What's Not Working in Your Biz...And Make It Better.” In it, she offers this really thought-provoking quotation: “Getting famous is not all it’s cracked up to be and getting featured in the media doesn’t always lead to sales, either.” It’s not enough to have people think you’re “fabulous.” Better sales come from a real relationship with your clients, and the About page is all about relationship building. So while a clear action step is a great way to end your About page, leave the sales messages to your sales page and emails. Focus your About page on building trust and rapport with your target audience, and they will search for ways to work with you.

Resources Mentioned Funnel Day OptinMonster InsiderInternetSuccess.com SurveyMonkey Transcript Jeremy Reeves: Hey guys, this Jeremy Reeves from the Sales Funnel Mastery Podcast and I have on the line with me today, Kavit Haria, you have to let me know if I said that right. Kavit Haria: Kavit Haria. That's right. Jeremy: Right. Kavit Haria. So today, Kavit and I have been talking and we decided that it would be kind of a cool thing to do. So instead of having a one-person interview, we're just talk and brainstorm and kind of almost like the little mastermind group. I think that's going to be most beneficial for both of our audiences. So if you're a listener of mine, you know who I am. My name is Jeremy Reeves and if you're not, if you're one of Kavit's subscribers, then you may or may have not heard me before and if you don't, again, my name is Jeremy Reeves and I am a Sales Funnel Specialist. I basically help people figure out what their sales funnel's going to be, the whole automated marketing funnel thing? That's what I help people with. So taking people from prospects, from when they first hear about you, and making sure that you have the right positioning in place, the right offer, and having them go through automated sequences. Emails, sales letters, videos, and everything that makes up a sales funnel. And do that in the proper sequence and have all the right offers for people to greater profits and automate your marketing so you can focus on higher leverage activities and all kinds of stuff that we'll get into today. My website is JeremyReeves.com if you've never heard of me before. I'm going to pass it on to Kavit and let him explain what he does, who he is, so that my audience can get a good understanding of what he does. Kavit: This is a pretty interesting thing, Jeremy. I guess we are co-interviewing and co-answering also. So not only am I being interviewed, I feeling like I'm also interviewing you, so that's pretty cool. My name is Kavit Haria and I've been online for about 10 years. I've been trying to build businesses online. Succeeded in a few different ways. Got into a few, different, cool ventures. Ultimately, I like the fact that I'm a musician and I play (02:30-02:32) and I use that to launch business online, selling music education to other musicians. Kind of like helping them work in a good (02:41-02:42) that marketing is very important in my career. I needed it to help me get out there and show my music. If I wasn't good at marketing, I wouldn't get (02:51). If I wasn't good at promotion, I wasn't going to get an exposure. Nobody was having me sign up for a band. Nobody was signing up for promoting and my music essentially is part of my dream. So I learned that marketing is very important. To cut the story short, really, the problem at first is inside our music business where I learned to create info products and sell a lot of educational material and automated funnels, which is what we're going to talk about in a second. I also learned that I have this ability that I engineer a process where somebody would come to the site and really engage with me and really engage with my stuff and buy my stuff, not once but over and over again within a period of time, that my lifetime customer value is really high in such a short period of time and I was doing all that, once build, and never having to touch it again. So I heard some really cool things there that I didn't go out on a flight to other businesses that I went out to consult in before starting my current business InsiderInternetSuccess.com. Where we basically work with people that have profitable business ideas or business ideas that they think will really work and we sit down with and walk them through a business strategy, a business model, and build the entire thing on the web. So we're kind of very similar in what we do, so it's really good to collaborate with mastermind right now. I'm talking a little bit about how we're building sales funnels individually and have different angles to it, but it's all very creative work and also scientific work and also how other can benefit from just listening in on this. Jeremy: Yeah, definitely. I even said we're almost semi-competitors but I'm kind of on the mindset that there's more than enough people, that everybody has their unique flavor to what they do and people respond differently, they resonate with people differently. So it's cool once you get two people together that do similar things and pull the intricacies of what we do. I think it's going to help both our audiences quite a bit. So really quick, when I first heard about you and when I read about you, your whole music thing, I didn't realize how you're very humble about how you said that because I saw your 'About' page, you did performances with Paul McCartney and Jimmy Paige and all these heavy-hitters and famous musicians, so tell me a little about that. I'm curious. Kavit: Well, and they are really awesome and nice. I remember them very, very clearly and they were also in big venues. We're all about world festival in Holland and U.K. and lots of places. I've performed in different continents, also. But I guess I (05:44-05:45) to get out and play my music. Because I know how to make instrument but I didn't want to play with Indian music, I really want to fuse it with the Western stuff and we hear it a lot these days. Now, it's a lot more mainstream. A lot of R & B and Hip-Hop scenes. Even rock music and Latin music, even that you hear these days. I can hear it very intricately and I can hear the same drum that I play up here in that music and people don't even know what it is. They key was I had to learn to build confidence. I had to learn how to very clearly articulate what I did, and very clearly know exactly know what I did and help somebody else. And as soon as I started to do that, as soon as I started to tap into other musicians and show them how this could work for them, how it could really help them stand out if they were to use this kind of stuff, and then we started to perform and get known, it lead to other bigger opportunities. And so I remember performing for our best musician called 'Donovan', and he was celebrating his wedding anniversary as a concert in the Royal Albert Hall. He was singer from back in the day and he was singing with the London Contemporary Music Orchestra and his friend who was a special on the show, was a performer was Jimmy Paige. So I remember this occasion. I actually, I got (07:10), I have to admit. Music and Jimmy and Paige, didn't know what he looked like, don't remember his music, nothing. But I remember we were in the musician's canteen and the orchestra was performing and rehearsing with Donovan and I was sitting there and I ordered a bit of food from the musician's canteen, I was a nobody, I remember at that time, still with music, to be honest. And this guy walks in and comes and sits with me because I'm the only one sitting there, so he comes and sits, so we start talking and I realize that this is Jimmy Paige, I realize that Jimmy Paige is a great guy, I started to feel a little interested in what he was doing and we talked for 45 minutes, right before the performance. I didn't even know he was there to perform, I had no clue, whatsoever. We then went behind stage, we practiced for about an hour and we performed on stage and it was beautiful. It was absolutely beautiful. Jeremy: That's awesome. That's a really cool story. Kavit: So the picture you see on my 'About' page is us sitting in the canteen, having apple pie or custard, basically. Jeremy: Sounds good. I can go for an apple pie, actually. That's one of my favorite desserts. I haven't had one in a long time. So let's jump in more business stuff. We each have our own approach to how we work with clients, how we work with customers, that kind of thing. Let's just say someone was coming to you and they didn't have anything. They had no assets in place, whatsoever. If they were basically starting from scratch and wanted to build a lifestyle business, that's a big buzz word these days, what would be your process to help them from that first stage of business, going from nothing to 6-figures is the big first mark and then it's like half a million and then a million. So what would your advice be like? What would your process be working with somebody to get them to that first stage? Kavit: For an automated business system, there 3 stages. The first stage is strategy. We basically sit down and think about their profitable business idea. At the end of the day, you got to have an idea. If you don't have an idea, then you generate a whole list of ideas (09:21) with analyzing and testing information and find the best one. But generally, apart from that one, you got an idea, you got to simply think about, "What is the product that I want to sell?" And the way you think about that, first of all, is "What are the problems that the market that I'm attacking or going for has and what is the solution that I can provide to them?", so you got this idea, you got this market, you got this huge problem that might be facing that you're trying to solve in the service or product and you've really made it knocked down. For me, the biggest way to test and do all these things is surveys. And I do a huge number of surveys. In the beginning, at the end, after purchase, before purchase, throughout the lifestyle of the client. And I'm trying to find out and get into my head and really understand what is really important for them? What challenges do they have? How can I help them with their challenges? What would it mean to them if I helped them solve their challenges? So I really want to get and understand all of this stuff. And it's really, really worth the time to do that because even one or two, three insights that I get could change the way that our (10:29), could change the way that I present it when I speak it. I'm sharing my value with them and that could mean a lot more sales. So surveys are (10:36-10:37) that. And essentially, what I'm looking for is a sales funnel that has two key parts. The first is what I call the '24/7 Marketing Machine' which is really giving a lot of value on the front end to solve that problem that that person might have in their market and giving them a value in exchange for their information, for some ideas or survey questions that they might complete and then giving them a series of emails that builds on my relationship with them and then that segment which is the '24/7 Marketing Machine'. The second segment is the 'Simple Sales System'. The way that the Simple Sales System works is once you build the trust and engagement in your emails, once you give them the value of building an engagement with them, the next step would be to figure out, "How would I take these people who are now hot leads and convert them to sales?" It could be a sales letter, a webinar, just an application form, that they speak to you on the phone, it could be any of these things. But what is the process that would work best based on what that person is selling? So there are two key systems. These are really crucial. What most people do is mix the marketing with the sales when really, they are different things. You can't sell to somebody if they're seeing you for the first time. It's very unlikely that they're going to buy so I've always found that take the time to invite somebody, to court them, to nurture them so they're ready to be sold to. Otherwise, you're (12:12) to people that don't want to be sold to and then you're why you're never getting sales. That is because they don't want to be sold to. So the first thing to ((12:21) is there two parts to that process. Get that person ready and then have it processed to sell to them. And then anybody that's starting out should always be thinking, "Well, there's so much to build, there's so much to do, how do I get all of these things done?" And the first step is to take each step at a time. So set up the first element, the marketing section and then set up a sales section. Put it all together. The second thing is then to stop thinking about how you can bring other people in to help you to do that because there is a huge amount of work and you want to whatever you can to get it right from the beginning. It might be about the cost, it could be systems, it could be technology. But whatever it is, I'm not saying you have to spend money on hiring people, but it just could be the right technology to help you automate the things that you  need automate so that you've got more time off to go back and spend sending traffic which (13:10-13:11) part in the system. Jeremy: Yeah, and it's funny a lot of people make the mistake of putting their time in the things that don't make a difference. You have to figure out what your unique ability is, like what you're best in the world at, and make sure that when you’re working on your business, you're working on those activities. One of the easiest ways to find growth in any business - doesn't matter what stage you're at - is to just get rid of those activities that aren't giving you the highest leverage and hand them off people who are still capable of doing them. Whether it's a freelancer, like a part-time kind of thing, just outsourcing or full-time employee, whatever it is and focusing on the activities that are bringing you highest leverage for your time. Beyond all the sales funnel stuff and that makes it all automated, for the stuff that you're doing on a daily basis, it's so important to figure out when you sit down, when you're at your computer, at your keyboard, you know what you should be spending your time on. That makes a big difference. You mentioned about surveys. That's a huge part of my process too. In fact, after we get off the call, I'm setting up a survey for a client that I'm working on. A lot of people stop with just an online survey. Most people don't do any type of surveys. They really don't understand their market at all. They really don't understand their frustrations, the pain points, what people are there for, what ways to segment. Surveys are a really good way to segment your audience so that when you're sending out your emails, you're sending them to the right people. So doing the survey is step one. And then if you really want to get in tune with your market - and this is especially crucial if it's a new market or if you're trying to get to the next level of growth whether that's from 500,000 or to your first million, whatever your next level of growth is - talk to people on the phone. So when at the end of the survey, you have a question like, "Hey, do you mind if we call you? Leave your phone, it's optional of course." you'd be surprised how many people leave that. I know when I have clients, a lot of times, I'll ask them to send out an email saying, "Hey, we're trying to improve your experience. We have someone that wants to call you and understand how we can help you better.", then I'll call their customers and do that. For some reason when you get on the phone, you can get 200 survey responses. And that's usually around the number I'd typically recommend because over that, you start getting the same thing over and over and below that, you're not really able to see trends as well. So 200 is a pretty good number to start with. But if you talk to five people for 20 minutes or an hour and a half or whatever out of your time, you're going to get so much deeper of an insight than what you get with just online text surveys. That's one thing I would recommend when you're doing this. Regardless of where you are in your business, you should be doing surveys. Kavit: That's a great idea. Do you have a formula for how you make them work? Jeremy: What do you mean for how to make them work? Kavit: Like, how do you get the maximum input from your users or your prospects? So like, they're giving you the really good information that can help you turn a lousy campaign to a really good campaign. Jeremy: Do you mean on the phone when I'm talking to them? Kavit: No, in the survey itself. Jeremy: I don't have any specific templates. Like, you're asking for their biggest challenges. It's kind of different with each market. I write them specific to that market. Like, "When you're doing this, what's the biggest problem you're having?" or "What's the biggest challenge you're facing?" or "What's the main reason you're doing this in the first place?" For example, if people want to lose weight, "Why are you losing weight?", and it's so different. Some people want to do it because they want to look good for their spouse, other people will want to do it because it's more of an ego thing, they want to look good for other people or walk down the beach with their shirt off. That's a good idea. I should come up with templates for it. I usually do it based on that market. When I start any new project, I always obligate a questionnaire. I always talk to the client about it and a lot of times I do funnel days. It's like an in-person consultation with the client so I spend the whole day with them so that I have a good understanding of the market and then I base the surveys off of that. But even just to get started, even if you have a two-question survey that is basically, "What is the greatest challenge that you're having when it comes to..." and then whatever you're trying to help them with. And then also "What's the number one reason you're trying to achieve that goal?" If you just start with that, then that would help quite a bit. It's a really good place to start. And then you can get deeper as you go, take those questions, talk to people and you'd be able to come up with other questions based off of those. Because you'll start seeing trends. I really should get templates, though. Kavit: Quick question about that, how do you then use the survey information? Like, do you segment your mails? Or do you use that information on emails? What do you do? Jeremy: That's a good question. One of the main reasons I do surveys is obviously, number one, to understand the market and that's for all the pieces of the copy. There's a lot of times that I've used actual quotes in the copy or I kind rearranged it a little bit and used it as a headline if I see it coming over and over again, it's a huge pain point. What I do is when I go through the survey, I make a list. Let's just say that's frustrations. So the two main things are the frustrations, the challenges, the problems and then the other side is the reason why. So depending on the market, what I do is I go down and I have two separate Word documents and I go through all the surveys manually because you just get a lot out of it. You can do multiple choice but I usually do open-ended questions because people give you real answers rather than whatever you want to give them, basically. So I go through it. I spend half the day or whatever. So let's just say I'm reading through and I see seven big objections coming up all the time, I write them down in a bulleted list and then  mark down how many times it comes up. So if one of the main objections is price, then I know to counter that and write a copy to overcome that objection more in the copy and I place it higher on the page. And then the same with the reasons why their doing it, I segment that based on the reasons why. Let's just say I have a side business and I did surveys to find the reason why they want to dress better. So I went through it and I found out that the three biggest segments were: Number one, getting girls, attracting other people to them for dating and things like that. The other one was confidence. A lot of guys, this is a guy's website, they feel more confident when they're dressed nicely. You just feel different when you're dressed in a nice suit rather than comfy pants. You stand tall and get more confident and all that kind of stuff. And then the third one was success. There's a segment of guys that are young professionals, they're trying to get a raise, they're trying to get better (21:56), all that kind of thing. So I look through that question and I mark down segments based on that and then I can in the emails. So that just gives me three segments. You can also do this with quizzes, by the way. So let's just say three segments. It could be two, it could be ten, but let's just say three. In the first email, somebody comes into your funnel. So there's two ways to do this. Number one is you can segment with your lead magnets that you get. Like the free value it could be free video, free report, whatever it is. You can segment with that. For example, I might have three different lead magnets. One is appealing to guys who want to dress better for success. Seven ways to dress better to get a big promotion or whatever it is and then you can segment that going to a separate list that talks about success and overcomes the objections, the frustrations they're having that area, it gives them tips, and builds relationships specifically to that. So that's one way. And then the other way is if you have more of a general lead magnet. Then let's just say 'How To Dress Better In The Next 4 Days', like, we have a four-day crash course  on how to dress better. So what we can do with that is in the first email, "Hey, I want to send you these emails that are you going to tell you how to dress better but in order for me to send you the most relevant information, I just have a quick question - what's the biggest reason that you want to dress better? Is it to pick up girls? Is it to get more success in life? Or is it to feel more confident?" And for this, you need Ontraport or Infusionsoft, like a CRM. Basically any email service that can automatically segment based on a link that they clicked. Then they click the link and then they go into that specific segment. So then there's a little process after that. Does that answer your question? Kavit: Yeah, that's great advice on surveys and segmenting and stuff like that. What I want to know is, and I think this will be useful to everyone, what is the process you go through to build a sales funnel? You're sitting down with a client, you're talking through the while process, what is it? Jeremy: The first thing I do is I get in touch with the market. Research. Understanding the market, understanding what they want, and then looking at the different products. Some clients already have the product. Maybe they're successful in another business. They hired me for a new business, whatever the case, we have to build the products. Actually, the guy that I'm working with coaching is doing that. So we find out what are the needs that are not being met in the market place? And that's based on surveys, talking to people. You can look at your competitors, see what they're doing. I do more for ideas rather than ripping them up. So that's first. The second is there are three stages - before, during, and after for the sales funnel. And one of the things that you talked about was not every sales funnel is the same thing. There’s a lot of people that are like, "The 8 Sales Funnel Templates", and it doesn't really work well because different types of funnels work for better for different markets and for different needs and for different products. In one, you might have the typical free report and then the emails and then the upsell sequence and then buyers' sequences. For others, you might want to start with the webinar. For example, I'm working on a project right now and he's selling a $7,000 coaching program to cold traffic. So that is very much different. There's a lot of relationship-building and trust-building and... Kavit: And it depends on what they're selling, the price point, the audience, the mindset, what they're used to or accustomed to, all that kind of stuff. At the end of the day, whatever you do has to, in my opinion, get the person ready to (26:48-2:50) Jeremy: Yes. Exactly. And one of the big things is time frame with that. If you're selling a $5,000 coaching program, you need a little bit more time for them to warm up with you first. Video's really good if you want people to bond with you a little bit faster. If you're selling $27 e-book, you can do that in a lot shorter time frame because it's not much of a risky for them. But you still need to create that bond. But you can do it a little bit faster. So the first thing is figuring out what do we have to do? People come to you when they first meet you. They first sign up to your list. They're on the left side of the line, that's where they are right now. And then the right side of the line is where need to be to buy your product. And again, that line is going to be bigger or shorter, depending on all the different things you said. The 'Before' process. What do you have to do? What emails have to be in place? What bonding has to be done? What authority has to be shown? What trust has to be built? That kind of thing to move people down that line. So each little touch point that you have - you show them a case study, it moves them to the right a little bit. You give them results in advance, it moves them down the line a little bit. I always think in my head, instead of like, "Oh, let's do x amount of emails", and then that's it. It's more of how do you gain control of their buying process? So you're constantly thinking, "How do I move them down the line?" rather than like, "Okay, let's just throw ten emails in here. It doesn't matter." and you just mish-mash them. It has to be done in a specific sequence. Kavit: It's psychology. So the whole point is that it doesn't matter emails you're going to do. It could be as little as sixteen or it can be as many as fifty, but the whole point is that person's got to be ready to buy. Jeremy: Exactly. So that process, part A, the 'Before'... Kavit: I have a question there. How do you know when they're ready to buy? How do you decide that? You, know, this is the number of emails or this the point where they're going to buy? Jeremy: I wish there was an answer to that because I would be a billionaire by now. It's kind of based on intuition and market research and doing best guess. If there's any way to figure that out specifically, I would love to sell that. Buy it's just based on understanding the market. Each person is going to come to you in a different way. I've had people that found out about me whether it was on the podcast or a guest article and I've had people do $20,000 products within one week of finding out about me. I'm doing a sales funnel for somebody and I forget, like, 13 grand or something. And I never spoke to them on the phone. I did it all through email. And that's because it was a referral. So that's a very different process from if he's never heard about me, he got referred to me by someone that he trusted. so he was already three-quarters down that line. And because he was using that trust from the referral, pushed him all the way down the line. He didn't have to go through my typical process to be able to do that. So everybody comes in there differently. And that's why even from the beginning I give them the chance to buy. I'm not really a believer, and everybody has different opinions on this, I mean there's really no scientific answer for this - again, it just comes out of my gut feeling - but even from the beginning, I always want them to know that the product and services are there. It's a really soft sell for a while. But at the same time, they still know that they're there. So if they are ready, then they just click the link in the email and they're good. A little bit more aggressive stuff come later. And I never really get too aggressive because I'm a huge bonding kind of guy. My scale of aggressiveness is less than most. But that comes a little bit later. Again, I wish I had a specific way. That would be incredible. So at that point, that process gets them to guy for the first time. And you touched on this before. There's a process for getting them to buy for the first time and then there's another process for getting them to become repeat buyers and higher value buyers because they already built that trust with you. Whether your first product is the (32:08) like the really small-priced thing. It works well with some markets. It doesn't really work well with other markets. If you're selling a really high-end coaching program, it really doesn't work well in my experience, at least in those circumstances just because of positioning. So the second phase is what happens during the buying process? They literally just bought your product one second ago. That's the typical upsell experience. I think most of the people listening to this probably understand what that is so I won't go into that much. But it's the process of the one-click upsell where they just bought the product and you give them offers for buying products. It could either be at a discount or they get a special bonus if they buy it right now. And that can be done. Just look up one-click upsell script of software. Most CRMs like Infusionsoft, Ontraport, Hubspot have that built in. I think what shopping cart does, auto-responder, Aweber, email services like that, you can always integrate with a shopping cart that does it. Kavit: I find a lot of people don't do the upsell clicks. Everyone talks about it but not everyone does it. Why is that? Why do you that is? Jeremy: I don't know. Kavit: I think it could be a lot of work or it could be they don't know how to do it. They don't know how to automate it. It could be those reason. Apart form that, do you think that there's people out there that are concerned that it might irritate people? And how do you go with that concern? Jeremy: It's a very valid to think but in reality, it's very rare to get complaints from people. Everybody always uses the McDonald's example. You go in there, "Do you want fries with that?" sorry I haven’t been to McDonald's for ever. But super-sizing, that's it. And you don't get mad at that. They're just offering you a question. I think a lot of what it comes down to is how the copy's done, how you position it. If you're really aggressive with it, then people might get mad at you. I's all about relation and bonding because that person just gave me money, I want to take care of them. I want to make sure that they know that I am someone they can trust and relate to and bond with and have a relationship with. Mine is always worded in a careful and considerate way. It's kind of like, "Hey, you just bought this. This other thing is going to give you...", usually, the big three are better results, faster results, and easier results. So if you're thinking about what to put in your back end, whether it's an upsell sequence or it's just in the back end, that's always what sells best. Easier, better, faster. Kavit: Well, there's some people that are starting out that are listening to this. So easier, better, faster, what do you mean? Jeremy: So let's go to weight loss. You sell them whatever the initial product is and then 'better' could be, you're going to get the same results, let's just you're going to lose ten pounds, here's a seven-day blueprint to lose ten pounds. So they're getting the 'faster' and 'better' in that. Or with 'easier', it could be just adding "Without giving up your favorite foods". Whatever the things that work really well is software. Like, "Our software will do it for you", that's always another good one. I went through a webinar, I'm actually going to buy it (36:39). Probably tomorrow. So I went through a LinkedIn training on how to connect with people on LinkedIn and gain more traffic through LinkedIn and his whole thing, was "Here's the process for doing it but if you want to just automate everything, my software will do it for you.", so that's his upsell. It's easier, you get better results because it actually gets done faster because the software does it for you. So it hits all three of those points. Kavit: That's interesting. Jeremy: So software is a really good way to do it but there's a lot of different ways. Coaching is another good upsell because that's faster and better and easier. It's kind of like, "Hey, you can do everything by yourself, or you can work with me and I'm going to show you, step-by-step how to do it. We're going to get things done so much faster..." Hopefully, that gives you a couple of good examples for people that they can use in their business. Kavit: Let's talk tricks for a second. I want to make sure to understand, what are cool new things that I can add or do on my website? Because everyone's using all these tools like online chat and pop-ups and all these things. What are your (38:09)? What are your favorites? What do you see worth creating well? If you were to give me your secret advice, what would it be? Jeremy: I would say Live Chat is a good one and it's really easy to implement. You can go and just get Olark, theyr'e one of the free live chats, there's a bunch of them. Most of them have free plans. Usually, if you have live chat, it'll bump up your conversions just by having it regardless if people use it. For some reason it just gives them that feeling of confidence. Live chat is a good one. Compare to the amount of people on your pages, you don't get a ton of people that use it. I don't do my own live chat anymore, I actually used to. That's another good way to do research, by the way, just to throw that in there. Even if you just want to talk to your customers and do research. My employees do that for me. They're saved a lot sales because people will be, just for example, on the order form, and they're having problems, and they're like, "Hey, I'm having x problem, what do I do?", you can just outsource all of this and have your employee walk them through what might be happening, refresh the page, try this, and have them go through the whole thing. So live chat helps. I'm a big fan of pop-ups. But instead of having the same, it all comes down again to segmenting. Instead having one pop-up on the whole website, what I've seen really helps is - and I did this in my side business and I think it was probably about 6x how many opt-ins I get. Again, instead of just having it on every page, you have it on specific pages. For example, on our sales letter. I was looking for my Analytics and people who got this one email, converted at 4x the rate of just the average person on the (40:25) and that email was giving them a sneak peek of the product - so I was like, "Wow! That's a pretty big increase!", so I thought, "How do I scale that? How do I get that to more people?". My idea was on my sales letter, when they leave the sales letter, it says, "Hey, you weren't interested but maybe that's because maybe you wanted to take a sneak peek at the product first and make sure that it's for you." So then they opt-in, they get it. So that was my way of using analytics and then you say, "Okay, how do I scale that? How do I put that in the business?" So that bumped up the conversions quite a bit. That's just one example of using pop-ups in a much smarter way than just throwing it on there. If you have different categories for blog pages, let's go back to the weight loss example. Let's just say you have recipes and nutrition advice and strength training advice. So there are three very different segments. On all your category pages for recipes, you can have a pop-up that offers them. It's like, "Hey! You came here, you enjoyed the recipe, do you want our free e-book that gives you fifty more?" On the nutrition letter it's like, "Hey, you enjoyed our nutrition article, do you want one that gives you our 30-day nutrition plan?" You can also do that on your blog pages. I use Opt-in Monster, by the way. That's my preferred opt-in plug-in. So you can do that. One of the things that I did for Kinowear, the side business, is they have one specifically designed for mobile. They have the normal one and there's one specifically for mobile and when I added that, the mobile actually gets more opt-ins than the regular one. I have to split test this. This is kind of just like conjecture, but I think the reason that it converts so well is because of how I positioned it. I positioned it as, "Hey, you're on your phone," and this wasn't the actual copy, it's the concept, but it's like, "Hey, you're on your phone, it's probably going to be hard to read the website, why don't you sign up here and I'm going to you free advice on getting stylish and the next time you're on your email, you can read it. It's just going to be a lot better of an experience for you." I forgot the exact copy that I have on the opt-in form but its' like that concept but it's like, "Hey, let's make this easier for you. You opt in here, and I'll send you this through email. You can check the next time you're on your computer." So that helped quite a bit. Kavit: That's awesome. You know what I wanted to do was (43:30-43:31). So for a while now, I've been creating and testing a lot of different lead pages, especially when I do advertising. I know on my own site, I got a lot of lead boxes all over the place. Inside blog posts, I've got specific blog posts about lead pages. Like one, if it's a report about content marketing, I've got something I'm giving away about content marketing, there's a lead box for that. If it's a blog post saying about a plug-in, I've got to push for that. And then I got video episodes like podcasts. Then I transcribe each episode and I give the PDF away but in order to get the PDF, they got to opt in. So every single episode is like a lead page. And that's 90+ lead boxes just for the episodes so it's really, really cool. Then I'm building lots and lots of opt-ins, Then (44:19) segmenting in so many different ways. And I found that although some people opt in, like, 10, 15x in different lead boxes, because they want different things, the more they opted in, the more I'm able to segment them and say, "Hey, you seem like an active user. I think I'm going to follow up with you to say maybe you want to come up on one of our discovery (44:40)" or whatever it is just they are more hyper active. Jeremy: Yeah. Absolutely. That's a good idea. I like that. Kavit: We're running out of time now, so I got a question for you. I think for me, whenever I want to get to know somebody, I want to know what they read because what they like to read tells me a little about the kind of person they are. So what are your top three recommended books? Jeremy: Let me give you two business books because we're talking about business. But I'm also a huge fan of a life of balance. Like, not just working all day because I have one-year-old, I have a three-year-old, I have a wife and with a good relationship with her. So I want to see all them. All of our family lives within a 15-minute radius of us. We actually have friends coming over tonight. So we're always doing stuff with family and I think that if you just work all the time, and a lot of people are like, "Oh, my business is my passion" and my rebuttal to that is, "Okay, I think it's kind of a limited life if you only have one passion." I love this. I absolutely live working all day but I have a lot of other passions. I'm getting certified as a chef right now just because I love it not because I'm going to go out and cook for people. My wife likes it. Kavit: But this is certified chef. Jeremy: Basically, like a professional cook. But there's online classes and stuff that you can take and get professionally certified but I'm just doing it because I love to cook. Anyway, I'm also going to give you one non-business book. The number one person of influence is Jay Abraham. Sometimes I think a little bit too strategically, that's I have number two. The first person is Jay Abraham, any of his books, just read them. Kavit: If I was to answer the same three questions, the first book to have on my list is 'Getting Everything You Can Out of All You've Got'. Jeremy: That's number one for me. Kavit: That's really good to hear. Jeremy: So 'Getting Everything You Can Out of All You've Got', that's number one. Number two is Dan Kennedy. Basically, anything by Dan Kennedy. He's got a whole bunch of books. I would say like off-the-top-of-my-head, the one that really resonated with me is 'My Unfinished Business '. It's almost like autobiography. And also another one is Richard Branson and his autobiography was awesome (47:44-47:45). And then the non-business one, I don't know if you're familiar with Strategic Coach but they have a thing where you have either a focus day, which is your top priorities, top leverage activities, your buffer days which is more delegating and kind of just like those stupid, little projects that you have to do, but they're not contributing all that much. And then free days. When I take a free day, there's zero business, whatsoever. I can't talk about business, I don't look in my email, I don't answer my phones calls. It's just to completely unplug and it makes a huge difference in your motivation levels, your creativity. In fact, this weekend, I'm doing Saturday and Sunday free days which is cool. So my non-business book would be anything in the Alex Cross series. But Jane Patterson? Those books, last January... Kavit: You know what? James Patterson and Lee Child, I absolutely love Lee Child. Jeremy: He's actually on my list for... Kavit: You got to read his stuff. Jeremy: Yeah, I'm reading 'Dracula' right now. Kavit: I'm just saying, Lee Child inspired me to write better email. They're short. (49:00) it's as if you're speaking. Personality, it’s (49:03). Jeremy: And that's the same with Alex Cross. One of the big things that I've learned from him, and another thing is when you read novels? You really do become a better writer. Because you pick up and you're like, "Oh, man." Like the way he structured that, with Alex Cross, his cliff hangers, they're just unbelievable. It's absolutely brilliant. On my free days, I'm always reading novels. Like I said, I'm reading 'Dracula' right now. Again, Lee Child is on my list for after 'Dracula'. So I'll be buying a couple of his books. So those of are my three. Kavit: That's pretty cool. (49:44) and I appreciate that stuff. Jeremy: Yeah, how about you? So number one, 'Getting Everything You Can Out of All You've Got'. Kavit: Getting Everything You Can Out of All You've Got', and then number two, I would have to say would be 'The Ultimate Sales Machine' by Chet Holmes. Jeremy: Okay. That's a good one. Kavit: That's a pretty good book. At number three, and it's non-business, I would say 'The Four Agreements' by Don Miguel Ruiz. It's like a spiritual slash (50:12) those kind of books. Really, really good four agreements that (50:16-50:19). Jeremy: I bought a whole bunch of bookmarks that has the four agreements on them. Yeah, we seem to share a lot of very similar interests. Kavit: Yeah, but of course, like I said, the books that I generally read that are not business-related are Lee Child and that kind of stuff so that's kind of cool. Jeremy: Nice. Kavit: Well, I appreciate you inviting and I inviting you on this cold call and I hope that everybody gets some really good benefit from this (50:50). Hey, Jeremy. Where can people find you? Jeremy: I'd like to think that my website does a good enough job of "selling me". I won't send to a free report or anything like that, if you just go to JeremyReeves.com. When you go there, it basically tells you who I am, what I do, you'll be able to see testimonials, case studies, results that I've gotten for people. And then there's three things like if you're interested in working with me or doing anything with me, you can either get on my list and there's a free report there. I have automated webinars and stuff that you can go on to get tons and tons of value. There's a 'Services' button if you're interested in working with me. There's a 'Products' page if you're interested in looking at the products that I have. I would say just go to JeremyReeves.com and see where it takes you. Kavit: Brilliant, brilliant. Jeremy: How about you? Kavit: InsiderInternetSuccess.com. You should just check it out and you'll see what I'm talking about. Jeremy: I highly recommend his 'About' page so you can see his music stuff. That was intriguing for me. Kavit: You should write more about your chef stuff and family stuff. Jeremy: Oh, I do. Kavit: That was new to me. Jeremy: Yeah, in all my emails, that's where I have most of that stuff. Hey, it was great talking with you and everybody will get a lot of value. Kavit: Yeah, speak to you soon. Jeremy: Yeah, sounds good. Thanks.

Enjoy our 3rd episode podcast (enjoy for free) by St Placid, one of the proud members of the Househusband Radio taskforce... A chill-out trip, ambient and groovy sometimes, dedicated to the birds, the 20th composers and electronic music anthems. The perfect way to have a rest just after the party, listening to : our mind, the nature, the silence... "When the Giraphone crew invited me for a podcast as an outside guest, I felt really honoured and excited at first, and then quite anxious about what to bring to their project and what to share with their audience. After some thinking, I finally chose to use the main idea of the Giraphone Records concept provided in the 'About' section of the site : "talking about Nature & Technology, in a dance-floor & ambient way…" First I thought about using Ableton Live to arrange a mix in a clean and seamless, elaborate way but quickly realised I was not really enjoying myself, due to a lack of natural feel. Instead, I decided to use a bottle of wine, a selection of nature-related records (some very obvious, some less obvious), a mixer with some effects and three SL-1200 TT's (one can always use an extra TT). As a result, some weird actions happened in the process and some transitions may not to be so accurate, but, then again, that makes sense with the theme, doesn't it ? One last detail : it has been recorded on march 23, a few days after the disaster in Japan. I had already selected the tracks a few weeks earlier, and some of them became scaringly meaningful from the post-earthquake/Fukushima perspective, in their way to express the great parodoxical forces of fears AND hopes that reside in our deepest relations to Nature. This is mainly dedicated to Doro, L., the Labyrinth people, Gaby (welcome to this world !) and to my bros at HouseHusbandRadio.com, my one and only Home !
