We start this week with Hitler announcing that there would be no more surprises, though we immediately question whether his word could always be wholly trusted. We go on to look at the way Hitler was building a regime which didn't just want war, above all against what he saw as a Jewish-Bolshevik menace, but actually needed it as the only way to obtain basic products for the German population, and raw materials that the military machine itself had to have. Meanwhile, British foreign policy was under new management, with Anthony Eden as Foreign Secretary in place of the disgraced Samuel Hoare. The Prime Minister, Stanley Baldwin, told him he wanted better relations with Germany and when Eden asked how he was to obtain them, he told him that it was Eden's job to work that out. But then Baldwin stood down, and his successor, Neville Chamberlain, had a different approach. He wanted to run foreign affairs himself, and he was intent on going flat out for appeasement. That finally brought the Prime Minister and his Foreign Secretary into a head-on clash, over concessions to Italy, in the hope of securing Mussolini's assistance. Chamberlain was prepared to recognise that Italy had the right to invade and occupy Abyssinia (Ethiopia today), even though that was a breach of international law. Eden was in favour of appeasement, but not at the cost of unreasonable concessions, and this one he decided really wasn't reasonable. Eden went. His replacement was Lord Halifax. He'd recently been on a hunting trip to Germany as the guest of Hermann Goering, and came back convinced that the Nazi leaders were reasonable men with whom a sensible set of arrangements could be negotiated. Then Hitler showed that the age of surprises really wasn't over. He sent troops over the border into neighbouring Austria, to absorb it into the German Reich. There was no resistance in the country, and none from outside either, including from Britain. European great powers didn't greatly rate the rights of Africa's native peoples. Writing off the rights of the Abyssinians therefore was no great shock. But this was Austria, a European country, and Hitler invaded and annexed it without the slightest attempt to stop him from abroad. It seemed that appeasers were prepared to step across some red lines in their bid to buy peace through concessions to dictators. Description Authors: Nathan Susnik and Monica Joyce Evans Narrators: George Fowlie and Sandy Parsons Host: Laura Pearlman Audio Producer: Dave Robison The Tan One by Nathan Susnik originally appeared in Shoreline of Infinity. Alligators by Monica Joyce Evans originally appeared in Nature Futures The Tan One by Nathan Susnik Some days I pick the white pill. Other days it's the black. For some reason or another, I prefer the brown pill on Tuesdays. Today, feels like it's going to be one of my bad days. So, I pinch the tan pill between my thumb and index finger, flick it into my mouth and take a slug of water. It catches halfway down, but when I swallow again, it dislodges quickly enough. As it hits my stomach, I'm already more optimistic. My cat rubs against my leg. “Oh, hello Lionel,” I say. Abyssinians have ticked fur. It looks like one color from afar, but if examined closely, it's actually bands of light and dark shades. I bend down, leaning hard on my cane (it's really more of a modern crutch) and stroke him. Pain shoots out of my lower back, wrapping around my hip. But I clench my jaw, ignoring it, running my hand over the cat's back. He purrs, and perhaps today won't be so bad after all. Please don't forget to like, share and leave a comment… Help me to stay motivated, to create better content and be able to share the knowledge, hopefully it will be useful and become a charity for our journey together, Amin Ya Rabbal Alamin… Narrated by Abu Hurairah: from Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2646, Book 41, Hadith 2 : The Virtue Of Seeking Knowledge [that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever takes a path upon which to obtain knowledge, Allah makes the path to Paradise easy for him."] As a rule of thumb, any hadith which contradicts the Qur'an should be considered null and void. Only the Qur'an is the absolute authentic text which has remained intact throughout. Al Qur'an is the word of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى and Hadiths are just for our reference. May we receive mercy from Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala and also receive guidance to gather sufficient supplies so that we are safe and comfortable in Mahsyar facing Allah SWT being entered into heaven by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala without reckoning and also punishment. ** Please also do your own research and pray that Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala will guide us on the right path and not stray away from it. ** Surah mentioned :- - Surah al-Buruj 85 (The Mansions of the Stars) Verse 4 - 11 [ Cursed were the People of the Ditch. Of fire fed with fuel. When they sat by it. And they witnessed what they were doing against the believers. And they had no fault except that they believed in Allah, the Almighty, Worthy of all praise! To Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! And Allah is Witness over everything. Those who persecute the believing men and women and then do not repent will certainly suffer the punishment of Hell and the torment of burning. Surely those who believe and do good will have Gardens under which rivers flow. That is the greatest triumph. ]

Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. (born October 20, 1971), known professionally as Snoop Dogg, is an American rapper and actor. One of the most iconic figures to emerge from the early-'90s G-funk era, Snoop Dogg evolved beyond his gangsta rap beginnings to become a lovable pop culture fixture with forays into television, movies, football coaching, and wrestling while expanding his musical reach far beyond his primary genre. Introduced through Dr. Dre's Top Five rap hit 'Deep Cover' (1992), Snoop quickly became one of the most famous stars in rap, partially due to his drawled, laconic rhyming, as well as the realistic violence implied in his lyrics. In 2012 Snoop converted to Rastafarianism and officially changed his stage name for the first time in 14 years to Snoop Lion. He released an album and a documentary under this name before changing his name once again only one year later in 2013. In this episode a playlist of songs created by Snoop during his Snoop Lion period, and published in a popular music streaming platform (that shall remain unnamed) between July 2012 and February 2013. Lineup: Snoop Lion, Peter Tosh, John Benitez, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Gregory Isaacs, Buju Banton, General Echo, Tenor Saw, Dawn Penn, The Abyssinians, Burning Spear, Black Uhuru

How the late 1800s crated Ethiopian mythology is a counter-ideological resistance to the Haitian RevolutionHaitian Revolution from 1791-1804 vs Abyssinia Adwa in 1896The Haitian revolution put fear & nightmare in European colonial powers not Abyssinia Ask yourself why was Haiti penalize after its revolution & trapped into debts to the French for decades while Abysinnia after Battle of Adwa got support in nation building from European powers?I always said the Haitian revolution should have been the only symbol of black resistance from the 1800s for the Black diaspora & Africa not AbyssiniaHaiti is a narrative of slaves revoltingAbysinnia is a feudal monarch who enrich themselves from slavery in 1800s Ethiopia is a creation of European colonialism & Battle of Adwa was a proxy war between France & Britain Hati was the real deal not Abyssinia Truly a black nation & an African resistance realizedHaiti narrative is not centered compared to the promotion of Ethiopia and there is a reason for it The Haitian Revolution has often been described as the largest and most successful slave rebellion in the Western Hemisphere. Slaves initiated the rebellion in 1791 and by 1803 they had succeeded in ending not just slavery but French control over the colony.Haiti had a history of slave rebellions;there were slave rebellions before 1791. poisoning of masters. Before the fighting ended 100,000 of the 500,000 Africans and 24,000 of the 40,000 whites were killed.former slaves managed to stave off both the French forces and the British who arrived in 1793 to conquer the colony, and who withdrew in 1798 after a series of defeats by l'Overture's forces.By 1801 Hait abolished slavery Haitian Revolution had outlasted the French Revolution which ….Napoleon Bonaparte, dispatched 43,000 French troops to capture restore both French rule and slavery. on November 18, 1803the French forces were defeated. On January 1, 1804, Dessalines declared the nation independent and renamed it Haiti. France became the first nation to recognize its independence. Haiti thus emerged as the first black republic in the world, and the second nation in the western hemisphere (after the United States) to win its independence from a European power. The war on Haiti never ended after 1804 but continued in various forms via intervention, coup attempts and continues the management of the Haitian state by disregarding the people demands--compared that with Ethiopia in which from the beggin Europe help create Ethiopia and turn into the first African neo-colonial state with Abyssian as their local administrators and mangaers..Below is the counter narrrative that challanges the mytoolgy around Battle of Adwa being the symbol of restianceMekuria Bulcha, PhD, ProfessorThe circumstances, under which the peoples of the south, such as the Oromo, who were conquered in the 1880s, and the Walaita, who were conquered by Menelik two years before the battle of Adwa, were made to march north and participate in the Battle of Adwa must be notedIt was after Adwa that Menelik imposed the notorious gabbar system on the conquered south. Slavery and the slave trade became even more rampant thereafter with the conquest of the rest of the south and southwest which became hunting grounds for captives and ivory.[29] Ironically, it was the Italian invasion of Ethiopia in 1936 which brought the outrageous institution and evil trade in human beings to an end. “The united country called Ethiopia, which according to Larebo and Borago existed centuries before Adwa, is a myth. The fact is that when he turned north to meet the Italians at Adwa, Menelik was in the midst of the conquest of the south. The entire Macha region – the Gibe and Leeqa states – was annexed only in 1886. Arsi was conquered in 1886 and Hararge in 1887. As indicated above, Walaita was conquered in 1894. The sores inflicted by the atrocities committed against the Oromo at Anole and Calanqoo in 1886 and 1887 by the conquering Abyssinian forces were still bleeding. Even Wallo's conquest in the north was completed in 1878 after years of fierce battles between Menelik (then King of Shawa) and Emperor Yohannes IV on one side and the Wallo Oromo on the other. ““. While the Abyssinians were defending their freedom, the Oromo had no freedom to defend against the Italians. They had lost it to the Abyssinians during the preceding decade. Their land was an Abyssinian colony. The “contribution” they were forced to make to the war effort saved the Abyssinians from European colonialism, but it did not help them to regain their own independence.”“ the Oromo did not fight at Adwa as ethnic Abyssinians or citizens of Abyssinia as Borago and other commentators try to suggest. They fought for their colonizers. They were not the first people to fight a war for their enemies.”In his Ethiopia: The Last Frontiers, John Markakis writes that Abyssinia “competed successfully in the imperialist partition of the region [Horn of Africa]. Not a victim but a participant in the ‘scramble', Ethiopia doubled its territory and population in a burst of expansionist energy, and thereafter proudly styled itself the ‘Ethiopian Empire'. He notes that “the title [‘Empire'] is not a misnomer, since Ethiopia's rulers governed their new possessions more or less the same way and for similar ends as other imperial powers were doing. The people who took the pride in calling themselves Ethiopians were known also as Abyssinians (Habesha).” Conflict researcher Christian Scherrer notes that “European and Abyssinian colonialism occurred simultaneously, pursued similar interests, albeit from differing socio-economic bases, and this was reinforced by comparable colonial ideologies of the idea of empire and notion of ‘civilizing mission' and the exploitation of the subjugated peoples.” Menelik's colonial conquests, Gebru Tareke, a historian from the north, has also stated that the Abyssinian ruling elite acted like the white colonial rulers in the rest of Africa. The language they used when describing their colonial subjects did not differ from the language the European colonialists were using. It was a language which was infused with stereotypes, prejudices and paternalism. He adds, “They [the Abyssinian elite] tried much like the European colonisers of their time, to justify the exploitability, and moral validity of occupation.” They “looked upon and treated the indigenous people as backward.”[17] One can add here that stereotypes and ethnic slurs about the Oromo, popular in Habesha discourse are the product of this colonial ideology.Margery Perham notes “The speed with which this great extension of the empire was made ….is explained by the …firearms which the emperor [Menelik] was obtaining from France... This same superiority was carrying the European powers at the same speed at the same time from the coast into the heart of Africa.”[18] The Swedish historian Norberg also says that “using the same military technology as the European powers”,[19] Menelik managed not only to conquer the neighbouring African territories, but was also able to garrison them with large forces called naftanya who controlled and lived on the conquered populations. As suggested by Richard Caulk, “the system of near serfdom imposed on wide areas of the south by the end of the nineteenth century could have not been maintained had the newcomers not been so differently armed.[20] The historian Darkwah notes that “Menelik succeeded in keeping the arms out of the reach of the [Oromo] enemy. He did this by imposing a strict control over the movement of firearms into his tributary territories and the lands beyond his frontiers.”[21]Darkwah notes that “in 1877 a Frenchman named Pottier was employed in training a group of Shewan youths in European military techniques. Another Frenchman, Pino, was a regular officer in the army which was commanded by Ras Gobana. Swiss engineers, Alfred Ilg and Zemmerman were employed on, among other things, building bridges across the Awash and other rivers to facilitate movement.”[24]According to Chris Prouty, Colonel Artamonov together with other Europeans was attached to the forces commanded by Ras Tasamma Nadew in Ilu Abbabor. He adds that even Count Nicholas Leontiev, a colonel in the Russian army, was a commander of a force which was sent to conquer the southwest in the 1890s. Another Russian officer, Baron Chedeuvre was Leontiev's second-in-command during the expedition. Several French and Russian medical officers were also attached to the Abyssinian forces, particularly those which were led by Menelik and European commanders. The Russian Cossack Captain Alexander Bulatovich wrote that with him, there were Lieutenants Davydov, Kokhovskiy and Arnoldi along with a command of Cossacks who had finished their term of service” and who were received in audience by Menelik and took leave from him and returned to Russia in June 1898.Genocide was committed not only on the Kaficho. It was also the fate of many of the indigenous peoples in the Omo River Valley, Lake Rudolf region and of the south-western lowlands who were conquered by the Abyssinians in the aftermath of the Adwa victory. Bulatovich, who followed Ras Wolde Giyorgis during his conquest of the territories south of Kafa, writes in his diary-based With the Armies of Menelik II that “By order of the emperor, a fifteen-thousand-man corps, set out on a campaign to annex to the realm of Ethiopia vast lands which lie to the south of it, which no one before this had explored, and which were completely unknown.”although the actual conquest was completed in 1900, the atrocities against the conquered populations did not cease; by and large, slavery and the slave trade continued until the Italian invasion of Ethiopia in 1936. As an Ethiopian historian has stated, Menelik's extension of Ethiopia's frontiers and the incorporation of new areas accentuated “the predatory tendencies of the ruling class and the soldiery. South-western Ethiopia became a hunting-ground for humans as well as animals. Ivory and slaves became the two precious commodities with which traders and adventurers returned from the region.” He wrote that “Members of upper nobility came to have thousands and sometimes tens of thousands of slaves at their disposal.”[9] Giving examples of some of the largest slave owners, the celebrated historian Pankhurst notes that Menelik and Taytu owned 70,000 slaves and Ras Wolde Giyorgis owned 20,000 slaves at the beginning of the twentieth centuryIn 1936, forty years after the Battle of Adwa, the British journalist and author wrote that the “peoples of the south and west were treated with wanton brutality unequalled even in the Belgian Congo. Some areas were depopulated by slavers.”[12] Comparing the harms inflicted by Belgian colonialists in Congo and Abyssinian colonialists in the south, he argued that “The significance of the Congo atrocities is not so much that they were committed as that they were exposed and suppressed.”Haiti is there to remind us the danger of western intervention & management Haiti is there to remind us the danger of NGO-AID intervention & management over the state Haiti is there to reminds us the power of the massesHaiti is truly the symbol of African resistance nowSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/horn-of-africa-leftists/donations

Chapter 105 entitled The Elephant consists of five short verses. It was revealed in Mecca and scholars deduce from its historical background that it was revealed in the very earliest days of revelation. When Islam was first presented to the people of Mecca they were all non-believers. Although it was revealed for all people in all times, the Meccans were the first to hear the message. Yes they believed in God but had put intermediaries between themselves and God. The early revelations taught the people that God was One; He has no intercessors, partners or associates. The Elephant refers to a very famous incident that took place in the Arabian Peninsula in the same year Prophet Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, was born. It demonstrates how God protected the land that was to become the focal point of the last revelation. It is described briefly because it was an event still clear in the minds of those living in Mecca and the surrounding areas. The entire city had to be evacuated because of the coming aggression.Various historical reports tell us that the Abyssinians had expelled the Persians from Yemen. They established their rule there under the Abyssinian governor Abrahah. He established a splendid and expensive church in his capital because he had witnessed the love and enthusiasm the Yemeni Arabs had for their Holy House at Mecca, and he hoped to entice them away from there and to his capital at Sa'na. If the Arabs preformed the pilgrimage in Sa'na instead of Mecca, it would divert the economic benefits to Yemen. This did not eventuate and Abrahah was furious. He formed an army, which included thirteen elephants, with the intention of demolishing the Holy House. On his expedition he succeeded in defeating all the Arab armies until he reached Mecca. As Abrahah's armies approached the city, God intervened. It is said that the lead elephant sat down and refused to move towards the city. The elephant trainers tried all they could to make the elephant move but he refused. When he was encouraged to move in a different direction the elephant cooperated but when turned towards Mecca he refused. Verse 1 The Army of the ElephantGod addresses Prophet Muhammad, asking him, have you not seen how your Lord (God) dealt with the Army of the Elephant? God is asking Prophet Muhammad, don't you remember, don't you realise? The punishment of God is not limited to the Hereafter and this event is an example that God can inflict punishment at any time. This question also draws the reader's attention to the incident and thus stresses its great significance. This incident was so well known to the Arabs that the year in which it occurred came to be known as the Year of the Elephant, and they used to use it to describe various lengths of time. It was as if it was their calendar. For example they would say this thing happened in the year of the Elephant or it happened two years before the year of the Elephant. And this was also the year in which Prophet Muhammad was born. Verse 2 FutilityNext God abbreviates the well-known story in the form of a rhetorical question. Did He (God) not cause their treacherous plan to be futile? Any plans made by the People of the Elephant were useless and incapable of achieving their desires because their plans were not God's plans. Although they set out with a destination and an outcome in mind they were like people lost and wandering, their destination was out of reach. The Meccans were too weak to face the aggressors but God took it upon Himself to protect His Holy House. He reduced their nefarious plans to nothing.Verses 3 – 4 Flocks of birdsThe Quran then brilliantly portrays how the aggressors were defeated. God sent against them flocks of birds that pelted them with pebbles of sand and clay. Islamic historians say that the birds were of all different kinds, some never seen in that area before. In addition to this they came from every direction. Those who could remember the event described the birds as filling all of the sky, as far as they could see. The birds did not each throw one pebble; they had pebbles in their beaks and in each of their claws and they fell like rain, one after the other. The pebbles were thrown from such a height that it is said that they went straight through their skulls. This event suggests that God did not want the responsibility for protecting His House to be taken out of the hands of the Meccans. He directly intervened to repel the aggression by a stronger force. God was preparing the way for His religion before the birth of Prophet Muhammad and long before he began to spread the message.Verse 5 DevastationThis is followed by a vivid image describing the aggressors as being devoured like dry leaves. In other translations they are described as looking like the windblown died straw that animals chew on. After being pelted by the pebbles the army was completely demolished. God has the power to destroy His enemies with the most unlikely of weapons.AfterwordIslamic historians tell us that Abrahah survived the attack and fled back to Sa'na. By the time he arrived his body looked as if it was diseased, with wounds everywhere and skin falling off. Normally when an army is defeated they make plans to avenge that defeat but the condition of Abrahah meant that they were severely afraid to return to the area._______________________________________By Aisha Stacey (© 2017 IslamReligion.com)Copyright © 2006 - 2021 IslamReligion.com. Chapter 63In October 1935, Mussolini's Grand Army crossed the border into Abyssinia. This land had been independent since the days of King Solomon. It was the only African country to successfully resist European invasion in the nineteenth century. The Italians had modern aeroplanes, tanks and flame-throwers. The Abyssinians had war-drums, camels and twelve obsolete biplanes. The Italians used poison gas and bombed Red Cross hospitals. The League of Nations applied some sanctions, but not enough to stop the war. The British let oil and coal sail through the British-controlled Suez canal. The French sold oil to the Italians. The League forbade arms sales to either side. The Abyssinians were slaughtered.Cuthbert was outraged. It was the first time any of his employees had seen him anything other than bored and distemperate. It made them all panic. Each of them ran around, feeling the weight of the Abyssinian crisis as he had been directly responsible for it. Cuthbert acted as if he had been against the League of Nations from the start, but had been overruled by his underlings – and now had the full magisterial right of a man who had given good but unheeded advice. The truth was that the FO was in quite a bind, and Cuthbert felt it most keenly. Throughout his career, he had been in the position of unequalled expert. His detailed knowledge was consulted, deferred to, sought after and never questioned. His position was a kind of weapon; his heavy, bludgeoning personality saw that it never went unused. But now, things were crawling out into the open. The British public – largely due to propaganda coming out of the FO – were almost fetishistically enamoured of the League of Nations. The League of Nations served Cuthbert perfectly, because he could blame the other members if a British initiative failed, and take personal credit if something succeeded. The greatest engine of the mortal world is the drive to avoid responsibility and fuel vanity. The League of Nations was popular with the people because it served the vanities of the leaders.Cuthbert was in a very privileged position, and this position was directly threatened by Mussolini. He was the chief civil servant under Samuel Hoare, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. Cuthbert had seen quite a few ministers stumble through the FO – it did not tend to attract the best and brightest – and had loved them all. They had the microphones and interviews, but spoke little but what Cuthbert wanted them to say. The word ‘democracy' always made him smile. Ministers who went against the policy of the civil service – surely a more permanent and skilled layer – found unpleasant information leaked to the newspapers, or were given poor advice which got them kicked out. In the palaces of power, the civil service were neither king, queen or courtier, but oxygen. An invisible, unfelt substance on which all pomp and power depended.Being a great civil servant required two things, according to Cuthbert. One had to be very certain, and very patient. “The great virtue of the civil service,” he would say, “is that we are not subject to the vagaries of public opinion. We are the ballast of the ship of state.”He was not a great fan of democracy, except insofar as the illusion of participation created the moral requirement of obedience. “They vote in the figureheads,” he smiled, “and we tell them what to do. If they succeed, they preen. If not, they leave. But we remain. We always remain.”
Talking about the coming of Christianity and Islam into Ethiopia, both religions were introduced to the native Abyssinians by the Arabs.
The Abyssinians - Satta Massagana (1976)
The Abyssinians - Satta Massagana (1976)
A Scottish Laird becomes Lord of the Bedchamber in the Abyssinian/Ethiopian court and finds the source of the Nile. Like many of his wealthy contemporaries in the 18th and 19th centuries, Lord James Bruce of Kinnaird made the grand tour of Europe (see the companion blog to this podcast). Unlike many of them he also ventured further afield. For three years, from 1769 to 1772, the six-foot four Scottish laird with vivid red hair, travelled to Abyssinia, the old Ethiopian Empire comprising the northern half of present-day Ethiopia. But his reasons for going are shrouded in mystery. Was he trying to find the source of the Nile or like an 18th century Indiana Jones, was he really searching for the Ark of the Covenant? Our producer Antonia Dalivalle takes up the story…. Bruce arrived in the country at a time when Abyssinians weren’t exactly fans of Europeans. A century earlier, the Emperor had kicked out the Portuguese Jesuits. They had pushed their luck and tried to convert the already-Christian Ethiopians to Catholicism. After the last of the Portuguese fled with their tails between their legs, Abyssinia closed itself off to outside influence – barricading itself against those they called the hyenas of the west. Abyssinians paid each other to spread ‘fake news’ to foreigners about the journey into the interior– hoping they would turn around and go back the way they came. A common bluff was that a rampant warlord was blocking the road. With a couple of exceptions, Bruce was pretty much the first European to set foot in the country since the expulsion of the Jesuits. A notable exception was the seventeenth century French doctor Jean-Baptiste Poncet, who exclaimed that the Abyssinian highlands, fragrant with flowers, reminded him of “The most beautiful part of Provence!” Bruce surely achieved his passage to Gondar not only because of the liberal distribution of gifts - from gold to English pistols - but also because he was fluent in Ethiopian languages, having studied them industriously before leaving Europe. He arrived in Gondar on the occasion of an outbreak of smallpox. But this unfortunate event had a silver lining for Bruce. Europeans before him had used medicine to get into the Abyssinian court. Luckily for Bruce, he had studied medicine in Arabia, and was able to lend a hand. As a Protestant Scot, Bruce was in a position to forge a closer bond with the imperial family, who were anti-Catholic. At one point, Bruce placed his hand on a Bible, and explained to the Abyssinian Queen, the Iteghe, “I declare to you, by all those truths contained in this book, that my religion is more different from the Catholic than yours is. There has been more blood shed between the Catholics and us, on account of the difference of religion, than ever was between you and the Catholics in this country." In Abyssinia, royal and religious history are interwoven. If asked ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’, Abyssinian Queens could justifiably say the Queen of Sheba. Abyssinian royalty traced their lineage back to the King of Kings, King Solomon. Bruce was similarly insistent about his royal lineage. He commissioned the Bruce of Kinnaird tartan to be woven from fourteen colours of yarn – twice the royal seven. Bruce was the direct descendant of the fierce Scottish warrior-king, Robert the Bruce. After a grueling interrogation from the teenage Emperor on the subject of England, he became Lord of the Bedchamber. The Scottish laird was now an official member of the glorious Gondarian court. Fluent in Amharic and Ge’ez, with his hair curled and perfumed in the ‘Abyssinian fashion’, he was the most punctilious guest. And Bruce said about the Emperor: “Nor did I ever after see, in his countenance, any marks either of doubt or diffidence. But always, on the contrary, the most decisive proofs of friendship, confidence, and attention”. Musical Interlude----‘Duelling African Lyres: The Ancient Egyptian Lyre ...

Kush I's professional career as a singer, song writer began under the guidance of the legendary Ken Boothe who took interest in Kush I and introduced him to Kingston studios and music-makers. Right from the beginning of his career Kush I's style was compared to Sanchez D, Tabby Diamond and Garnett Silk whom he openly acknowledges along with his cousin ‘Pipe' of The Wailing Souls as being strong influences on his music. After some years of working with various renown producers on the Kingston circuit, Kush I settled with Binggae records. His first release “Too Much Gun" in the late 1990s produced by 'Papa' Keith Francis of the legendary band Chalice, was demonstrative of Kush I's appreciation of high quality production, solid instrumentation, conscious message and social commentary which became the foundation of a successful formula that Kush I continues to use to date and is prominent in the productions, ‘Love Deyah' and the eponymous ‘Kush I' produced by Keith Francis alongside Aubrey ‘Prince' Manning and Joshua ‘Gaps' Manning son's and musicians of the Abyssinians, Donald Manning with whom Kush I continues to collaborate. Kush I consciously maintains his individual creative and musical identity. However, self-awareness does not mean self-indulgence as Kush I, despite regular comparisons to the immortal Garnett Silk and living legend that is Sanchez, continues to let his music speak for itself, humbly and respectfully.
DJ Tomas – Umoja Hi-Fi Sound Station "I’m A Rootsman, Part 1: Deep Roots Mix" A 73 minute selection of deeper roots reggae music from the 1970s and ‘80s. This selection focuses on slower, dubbier tracks with conscious themes and lyrics. I was trying to invoke the spirit of reggae radio in the ‘80s – be it pirate radio in the UK, college radio in the US or Dread at the Controls broadcasts in Jamaica. Another inspiration was DJ Andrew’s foundation/roots underground parties in Los Angeles in the mid-90s. A UK native and carpenter, Andrew would hold late night affairs in small after-hours bars on Fairfax Ave, focusing on strictly roots and culture selections. Honest Jons’ Dave Phelps would bring his 45s and Daz and Cokni would rope in. I & I hope you enjoy this set. More soon. Giving I-ses unto Jah I-tinually. Word sound is power. Cattitude - Cat podcast about cats as pets on Pet Life Radio (PetLifeRadio.com)
From chance breedings to controversial pedigrees, our next two cat breeds are recent additions to the feline purebred world. As one of the few spotted cat breeds in existence, the Ocicat took the show world by storm with it’s "wild" looks but playful temperament. Hard to believe this attractive breed was developed from a chance breeding of Abyssinians and Siamese! The Singapura cat is named for its supposed hometown of Singapore, but some purebred enthusiasts think it should be named the Texan or Houston Cat. The controversy surrounding this breed of cat has continued to this very day, despite an attempt by the Cat Fancier’s Association to put the debate to rest. One of the smallest cat breeds, the Singapura also is one of the least genetically diverse. Finally, join us as we discuss ways to help make sure your cat doesn’t decide to “shun” his litterbox!

If you are looking a that little piece of the wild kingdom to call your own, you might consider our special cats for this episode of Cattitude. The Abyssinian and Somali breeds of cats are very reminiscent of the African Wildcat, Felis lybica and often look as if they should be sunning on the savannah rather than your window sill. The 4th most popular cat in the US, Abyssinians are known to be great problem solvers and adept at getting anywhere in the household. Later, learn about feline diseases that are still affecting our cats. We may have vaccines for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, but concerns, controversy and misunderstandings are keeping many people from fully comprehending the true seriousness of these diseases.

THIS MIX FEATURES REGGAE’S VOCAL HARMONY GROUPS FROM THE 60S, 70S, AND 80S.I took it back to the roots on this one. I focused on songs with an impressive vocal arrangement. This is a specific selection of songs with male singers harmonizing together.I featured The Wailers, mostly from the “Catch A Fire” album. That album has that very dry, grassroots sound. This was before instrumentation such as horn sections and electric guitars were added. Before the female energy of the I-Threes was added. The mix also featured some of The Heptones‘ Studio One era hits. I dropped in some original Israel Vibration before they split. Other groups featured are The Techniques, The Abyssinians, The Gladiators, The Sensations, The Mighty Diamonds, and The Silvertones. You also hear songs from Lloyd Parks and We the People, The Sharks, The Royals, The Cables, and The Flames.Listen to those names and you know these brothers were from a different time. These vocal groups created some of the most beautiful music and the most powerful songs. You feel their passion because of the emphasis conveyed within the harmonies. There was something special about those days. Its the sweet soulful sound of great reggae music! If you enjoy this, check out episode 74. It’s entitled “The Greatest Reggae Bands of All Time (not including the Wailers).” That show features Aswad, Steel Pulse, Third World, Israel Vibration, Black Uhuru, and Inner Circle. Similar material is on The Studio One tribute episodes: 55 and 56.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/reggae-lover/donationsWant to advertise on this podcast?
