Prioritizing Family: The Key to True Wealth and SuccessWelcome back to the Roots to Riches podcast! I'm Justin Benton, your guide to unlocking ancient wisdom to boost your health and wealth. In today's episode, "Family First, Fortune Forever," I delve into the crucial topic of balancing business success with family priorities.Key Takeaways:1. Time Blocking with BoundariesI emphasize the importance of prioritizing family time over work. By blocking out non-negotiable time for family activities such as dinners, weekends, and weekday mornings, my calendar now reflects my true values, not just my ambitions.2. Involving Your Family in the MissionI share how integrating family into your business mission can create a sense of ownership and unity. Whether it's having your kids help with small tasks or discussing business challenges and wins, involving them makes them part of the dream rather than competitors for your time.3. Filtering Business DecisionsI now filter every business decision through one simple question: "Will this decision bless my family or burden them?" This approach ensures that my business choices align with my true priorities and values.Personal JourneyI recount a transformative exercise I did with Dr. Wyatt Woodsmall, where I listed my top five priorities and the time I spent on each. This exercise revealed a misalignment between my stated priorities and my actual time investment, prompting me to make significant changes.Practical AdviceI encourage listeners to perform the same exercise to evaluate their priorities and time allocation. By being honest with yourself, you can either adjust your time to match your priorities or re-evaluate what truly matters to you.Final ThoughtsI conclude by inviting listeners to reflect on whether their business is blessing or draining their family. For those needing guidance, I offer a free guide called the "Seven Day Family Wealth Reset," which can be obtained by texting me directly.Contact InformationListeners can reach out to me for the "Seven Day Family Wealth Reset" guide by texting 805-296-1525 with the message "Family Wealth Reset."Ask this Episode anything!TIMESTAMPS00:00:00 - Introduction and Prioritizing Family Time00:00:41 - Welcome to Roots to Riches00:01:04 - Episode Overview: Family First, Fortune Forever00:01:46 - Realizing Misaligned Priorities00:02:08 - Exercise: Identifying Top Priorities00:03:18 - Exercise: Prioritizing and Time Allocation00:04:44 - The Sacrifices for Work and Family00:05:40 - Transformational Realization00:06:10 - Reprioritizing Family Time00:07:04 - Balancing Work and Family Commitments00:08:08 - The Importance of Being Present00:09:00 - Family as the True Fortune00:09:12 - Key 1: Time Blocking with Boundaries00:10:06 - Implementing Time Blocking00:11:08 - Key 2: Involving Family in the Mission00:12:01 - Sharing Business with Family00:13:03 - Family Ownership in the Dream00:13:14 - Key 3: Filtering Business Decisions00:14:06 - Alignment with Your True Why00:15:08 - Doing Kingdom Work00:16:02 - Partnerships and Opportunities00:17:26 - Future Prospects and Alignment00:18:10 - Legacy Over Revenue00:18:32 - Invitation to Reflect on Business Impact00:19:07 - Free Guide: Seven Day Family Wealth Reset00:19:28 - Closing Remarks Thank you for tuning in to the Miracle Plant Podcast. Pippa Begg, is the co-founder and CEO of Board Intelligence and co-author of “Collective Intelligence: How to Build a Business that's Smarter than You.”  In this episode, Pippa discusses the mindset shifts required for leaders to let go of control and empower others, emphasizing the dangers of hubris and the importance of questioning one's own authority. She also addresses the common struggle with delegation, advising leaders to trust their teams and ask powerful questions that drive innovation and collaboration. Pippa dives deep into the topic of communication, sharing a powerful example of how poor communication cost a brilliant opportunity. Pippa explains how AI can enhance decision-making in boardrooms by supporting human intelligence and uncovering biases, rather than replacing human input.  When discussing power struggles in the boardroom, Pippa explained that they often arise from misalignment on what's important, especially regarding value creation. Pippa talks about the importance of balancing focus with flexibility, and shares how organizations can continually assess their strategies, asking the right questions that allow the organization to adapt to dynamic markets.  This episode is especially relevant for senior leaders looking to develop resilient businesses that thrive in an ever-changing world.     Key Takeaways Quotable Quotes "The pace of AI development can call all of that out. So really the thing that's blocking progress here is not the pace of technology. It's the pace of human adoption." "Humans don't take perfect decisions. We know about unhelpful decision making heuristics that we use. We know about bias that we have." "We are better when we're being observed than when we're not being observed." "We rush to find the answer... and often what we're doing there is we end up rushing to find an answer to not quite the right problem." "Many amazing business successes. The idea did not come from the CEO or from the board." "Most of the time when there is border and power struggles, it's because there's misalignment on what's important." "If we are willing to expose our thinking, if we are willing to expose our writing, if we are willing to expose our conversations, then not only could we be prompted, but we can just hold a mirror and just see what we're doing, really reflect on it." "Focus is absolutely critical to an organization's success, but blind focus can be its downfall, as we saw with Nokia."   This is the book mentioned in this book   Resources Mentioned The Leadership Podcast | Sponsored by | Rafti Advisors. I'm here to help, my love! www.consciousedge.com/schedule   Get full show notes at  www.consciousedge.com/ep050   In today's solo episode, Why Some People Build a Business and Create Wealth Reading Books While Others Can't, I'm diving deep into a pattern I see all the time. Why is it that some people can read a book, immediately take action, and build incredible success while others get stuck, frustrated, and never move forward? We'll talk about the real reason this happens, what role mindset and internal blocks play, and how you can finally break through and step fully into the success you're meant for. The summary:  Some people expect books and programs to deliver a “secret sauce” but success often depends on how you apply the information. Business fundamentals are simple; the "magic" is in how you act on them, not in constantly chasing new methods. Inner resistance, fear, and unconscious beliefs ("your big assumptions") often block you from taking action. It's not that the strategy or tool is broken, it's that fears of failure, rejection, judgment, or success itself can sabotage execution. Coaches and mentors share their methods openly, but it's up to individuals to overcome their personal mindset challenges. True success demands taking personal responsibility rather than blaming coaches, strategies, or external circumstances. Entrepreneurship requires becoming the kind of person who can hold bigger success, not just knowing the steps. Knowledge is easy to access. Real growth comes from doing the inner work to align your mindset with your goals. In this episode of Connected Leadership Bytes, Andy Lopata revisits his interviews with Jennifer Sundberg, Co-CEO of Board Intelligence and author of Collective Intelligence: Build a Business That's Smarter Than You. Jennifer advocates for leveraging the collective brainpower of teams rather than relying solely on superstar leaders. She sites examples from Apple and Amazon, where groundbreaking ideas like the iPhone and Amazon Prime emerged from teams, not just their iconic founders. Andy and Jennifer discuss cultures of humility, curiosity and open questioning to foster innovation. Leaders must recognise they don't have all the answers and encourage contributions without fear of criticism. Over-reliance on top-down decision-making can slow progress and waste intellectual potential. Jennifer also explores reverse mentoring, learning from failure, and the power of asking “how” and “why” questions to drive deeper understanding. The episode underscores the importance of clear communication, shared critical thinking, and inclusivity in decision-making. Jennifer's insights provide actionable strategies for leaders to harness collective intelligence and build smarter, more resilient businesses. Key Takeaways: 1. Collective intelligence is crucial for business success – Great businesses aren't built by superstar leaders alone but by tapping into the collective brainpower of teams. 2. Top-down leadership has downsides 3.Questioning culture is essential – Simple "how" and "why" questions can drive deeper understanding. 4. Clear communication matters – Complex information needs to be communicated clearly and concisely. 5. Focus is vital alongside openness – While encouraging new ideas, asking "Is our focus still the right focus?" periodically helps balance openness with strategic direction. 6. Even great thinking and critical analysis can fail if the organisational culture isn't ready to accept challenging ideas. A widespread appetite for questioning and critical thinking is necessary across the whole organisation.
