Have you ever met someone who describes his or her time on this planet in such an entertaining way that you lose track of time? Well, that is the dilemma “Driven to Ride” podcast host Mark Long encountered with Mike van der Sleesen. Mike, the CEO of Vanson Leathers, was one of Mark's first guests, and that interview barely scratched the surface of a life of adventure spent on and around two wheels.See, Mike was born in the U.S. but he grew up in The Netherlands and France, where he was first exposed to the joys of motorcycling at 9 years old on a Solex with a small engine driving the front wheel. Van der Sleesen progressed to two- and four-speed Puchs, followed by another two-stroke, a Garelli. Slot in behind a passing truck at just the right moment, Mike recalled with a chuckle, and you might catch its draft. In the 1960s, Van der Sleesen found himself in the thick of the vibrant British motorcycle scene, which has never rubbed off. Today, he owns five Nortons in various trims, one of which he bought in 1972 and shipped stateside—two years before he co-founded Vanson Leathers, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Van der Sleesen reminds us that motorcycling, much like life, is all about the journey. La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy
--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/media-la-porta/message
La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy
Delivered by Father Peter Tukan, SDB from Salesian Don Bosco Gerak Boleng in Labuan Bajo, Diocese of Ruteng, Indonesia. Proverbs 31: 10-13.19-20.30-31; Rs psalm 128: 1-2.3.4-5; 1 Thessalonians 5: 1-6; Matthew 25: 14-15.19-21 TRUST AND RESPONSIBILITY Our meditation on this Thirty-third Sunday of the liturgical year A has the theme: Trust and Responsibility. We are now closing the Liturgical Year A. Being in the end of the Liturgical Year, God's Word to us always concerns the kingdom of God, the end of time and salvation. Our liturgy today presents to us the face of the kingdom of God that describes two human profiles as told in the parable of the talents. The first profile is on the trust or mandate. This profile is found in the master or rich person, who gives trust to his servants with different sizes of wealth from one person to another. We understand clearly that God as the owner of this life, gives us trust through different portions of gifts in everyone. This is then continued with the assignment to develop those gifts from God. Everyone receives the gift of life. On the basis of that life, other specific gifts in everyone grow and develop. One concrete example, St. John Bosco when pioneering his first work, met a homeless child in the sacristy of a church. The child named Bartolomeo Garelli, was asked that he had something or could work something, but Garelli admitted he could not do anything. To be more specific, Don Bosco then asked if he could whistle, and the child began to whistle. Singing by whistling is a gift. From there Garelli began to develop and become someone at a proper time. The second profile is responsibility. Gifts, talents, callings, professions, must indeed be developed and produced in effective results. That is the first stage. The next stage is that the result should be delivered and shared so that it has value and is beneficial for others. Sharing from ourselves is actually a form of our offering and responsibility to God, and we express it to others and the world around. The Book of Proverbs accentuates the wife's figure whose hands are so agile and actively work to process and produce many advantages for others. All of us who are God's partners represented by that profile of the wife, must be able to be responsible to our partner, namely God who gives and entrusts us with various gifts. Our actions that are very necessary should be the readiness, activeness, attentiveness and responsibility. When the time comes, which is our death that we do not know anything about, surely we will be held accountable to God. Do not let our accountability just an empty hands because there are no records of any good results from the development of our talents. Empty self-offerings will only harm us. This must be avoided while we still have time in the world. Let's pray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus, help us to be able to use well the gifts, talents, times, and resources that you have bestowed to each of us for the glory of your name and kingdom. Our Father who art in Heaven ... In the name of the Father ... --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/media-la-porta/message

Abstract: Innate behaviors consist of a succession of genetically-hardwired motor and physiological subprograms that can be coupled to drastic morphogenetic changes. How these integrative responses are orchestrated is not completely understood. Here, we provide insight into these mechanisms by studying pupariation, a multi-step innate behavior of fly larvae that is critical for survival during metamorphosis. We find that the steroid-hormone ecdysone triggers parallel pupariation neuromotor and morphogenetic subprograms, which include the induction of the relaxin-peptide hormone, Dilp8, in the epidermis. Dilp8 acts on six Lgr3-positive thoracic interneurons to couple both subprograms in time and to instruct neuromotor subprogram switching during behavior.
