The Father Hoods crew is back in the booth with another fire episode, loaded with Dad bars and laugh-out-loud moments. They kick things off trading travel stories, from EFN flying the fam first class to Manny being trapped in the middle seat between a couple beefing mid-flight. Back on home turf, the Dads get into some gems. EFN talks about pulling his son's tooth with his bare hands, while Manny reflects on last week's convo with Alan Hahn, wishing he could rewind and relive those early moments with his kids. That sparks a raw convo on how fast kids grow, the importance of really listening when they share the little things, and how those small connections build the bond for life. Of course, Father Hoods wouldn't be Father Hoods without the comedy! The crew shares playtime stories, silly Dad voices, and Manny's youngest sneaking in a middle finger emoji to her mom after a little argument. From sentimental throwbacks to slick kid tactics, this episode is high energy, full of Dad wisdom, and unfiltered laughs! In this episode of Visual Intonation, we sit down with Rickey Larke, a filmmaker whose work pulses with heart, hustle, and an unshakable sense of purpose. From a childhood of sneaking candy into the AMC Showplace 12 in Bolingbrook, Illinois, to helming his most ambitious short film The Black Bart of Taco King #17, Rickey's journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and community. This is a conversation about the grind behind the glamour, the ten-year climb from unpaid PA gigs to producing a union-waivered short film during a historic industry shutdown. Rickey shares the full arc — from shooting music videos in Chicago to landing a desk at HBO, then stepping into writers' rooms on Black-ish, Kenan, and Grown-ish. Now a supervising producer at NBCUniversal, his path wasn't paved by privilege but powered by relentless work ethic, a deep love for storytelling, and the quiet pride of staying late, showing up early, and being the one who says yes when others hesitate. He talks candidly about the lessons learned behind the camera and the quiet victories that matter most, like wiring a gaffer her pay out of pocket, just to make sure she got what she was owed. We dig into The Black Bart of Taco King #17, a stylish and subversive short that premiered at the 2025 Essence Film Festival. Starring Jasmine Matthews and Derrick A. King, it's a cinematic duel at the dinner table, a heist of words and glances set in a dimly lit bar. Rickey breaks down how the film came together — the strikes, the stakes, the silent prayers behind every take — and what it means to create something with and for the communities that raised him. It's not just a film. It's a mirror, a mission, and maybe even a movement. This episode is about more than credits or accolades. It's about what it takes to build a career from the ground up, to lead with heart and hustle, and to make art that brings people closer. Rickey doesn't just want his work seen — he wants it felt, remembered, talked about in cars and kitchens long after the credits roll. So take a seat, press play, and step inside the world of a storyteller who's building something bigger than himself. The influence of the New Zealand-made label appears to be decreasing as more consumers prioritise price. Wattie's is ending some of its contracts with Hawke's Bay peach growers and says more people are choosing imported alternatives. It says the demand for New Zealand-grown peaches has seen a steady decline in recent years. Consumer NZ Acting Head of Research and Advocacy Jessica Walker says less and less consumers are prioritising locally-sourced products. "At the same time, we're seeing concerns about price, cost of food and groceries ratchet up...more people are cutting back on fruit and veg altogether, so I'm not surprised." Neuroscience is tricky… to say the least. Dedicated scientists have been exploring the organ since ancient times but there is still so much we don't know about what goes on between our ears. In part 1 of our brain series, host Dr. Samantha Yammine speaks with neuroscientist Dr. Daniel Toker about his research on consciousness through experimenting with lab-grown organoids. He explains what we can learn about the brain from better understanding consciousness. Then, Sam explores why our brains love to fixate on the mistakes we make and whether or not we can actually perceive more than five senses in our bodies.
