What if the connection you've been craving isn't in fixing yourself—but in being witnessed, supported, and celebrated exactly as you are?In this week's episode of Beyond Chronic Burnout, Carole Jean Whittington is joined by therapeutic coach and sacred circle facilitator Kanan Tekchandani to explore the transformative power of sisterhood—especially for highly sensitive, gifted, and neurodivergent women.Together, they dive into:
In a world that's never been more comfortable, why are so many people struggling? This week, my guest is Dr. Alok Kanojia, medical doctor, psychiatrist and one the world's foremost authorities on mental health for the gaming community. He is known online as Dr K and is the co-founder of Healthy Gamer, a mental health platform that provides content and coaching to help young people take control of their wellbeing and he's also the author of the bestselling book: How to Raise a Healthy Gamer: End Power Struggles, Break Bad Screen Habits, and Transform Your Relationship with Your Kids. One of the things I like the most about Alok is his competence and expertise in both western medical and eastern philosophies: he has both trained to be a monk in India and he has a Western medical degree and practices as a psychiatrist. During our conversation, you will learn: Why comfort might be the greatest threat to our mental health and how the brain and mind “rust” without regular use How technology is rewiring our attention and what ‘doom-scrolling' is really doing to our brains Why our emotional regulation is weakening and how simple acts like taking the stairs can recondition the mind The difference between the brain and the mind and why understanding this could transform how we approach mental illness Why meditation isn't a one-size-fits-all and how finding the right technique for your brain can make all the difference The true meaning and essence of happiness The link between ancient wisdom and modern psychiatry, and why you may be the only person that is truly qualified to heal your mind. Ultimately, this episode is an invitation to not only think differently, but to live differently, as well. Alok reminds us that healing doesn't always require a prescription or a therapist, but it does require courage, awareness and a willingness to face discomfort. Whether it's choosing to take the stairs, sitting in silence for five minutes or resisting the urge to reach for our phones, each of these seemingly small acts are actually powerful tools that can help us feel calm, connected and in control. When I was binge eating, what was missing from my life wasn't just freedom from bingeing—it was freedom itself. The kind of freedom you feel when you laugh with a friend at a café, walk with a neighbor in a park, or lose yourself—even for ten minutes—in a book that isn't trying to improve you. In this episode, we explore what happens when you gently invite pleasure back into your life—not as a reward for good behavior, but as a birthright. Because bingeing isn't always about food. Sometimes it's a part of you trying to break up the grind, bring back some joy, or create a moment that feels like it's actually yours. If you're tired of being told to push harder or restrict more, listen in. This isn't about more discipline. It's about less pressure. It's about giving your parts something they've been longing for: a little fun, just because. Get full show notes and more information here: https://www.holdingthespace.co/83. If you're ready to invest in one-on-one support to help heal binge eating, go to https://holdingthespace.as.me/free30 and get on my calendar for a complementary consult today. I pinky-swear—NO icky salesy vibes, just compassion and understanding.

If you've ever felt like your circumstances were too heavy to carry… like joy was out of reach or healing was just a distant hope… this conversation is going to minister to your soul. In today's episode, I'm joined by the radiant Nikki Cruise—speaker, encourager, and walking miracle. Nikki spent 11 years in a wheelchair, battling a debilitating illness that could have easily stolen her faith, her identity, and her sense of purpose. But through it all, she chose joy. And that decision changed everything. We talk about the mindset shifts that led to her healing, the role of neuroplasticity and gratitude in recovery, and how we can reclaim our joy—even when life feels unfair or uncertain. Nikki's story is not just one of physical healing but of emotional and spiritual restoration too. Her testimony is a powerful reminder that joy isn't something we find once we've “fixed” our lives—it's something we choose, moment by moment, even in the middle of the storm. You'll walk away from this episode encouraged, empowered, and reminded that no matter what you're facing, joy is still available to you. Healing is possible. Purpose is waiting. And you are not alone. ✨ Special Giveaway This Month! To celebrate the Revival Mom podcast turning ONE in June, I'm giving away a free Revival Mom coaching session to one of you amazing listeners! I am delighted to reconnect with Dr. Dave Rabin today. He last joined me for Episode 91 in April of 2020. Dr. Rabin is a board-certified psychiatrist and neuroscientist. He is the Co-founder and CMO at Apollo Neuroscience, the first scientifically validated wearable system to improve heart rate variability, focus, and relaxation, and helps attain meditative states. He is also Co-founder and Executive Director of the Board of Medicine and a psychedelic clinical researcher, currently evaluating the mechanism of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and treatment-resistant illness. Today, we examine the value of touch and sensory techniques, discussing the distinctions between sympathetic and parasympathetic vagal tone in the autonomic nervous system, changes in sex hormones during perimenopause and menopause, and how that impacts sympathetic dominance, the development of stress responses, and the concept of stress leading to personal growth. We explore the influence of the vagus nerve on systemic health, explaining what HRV is and how it can demonstrate bodily coherence, and we also dive into wearable technologies like Apollo, the disruption of psychedelic interventions, and the impact of trauma on physical and mental well-being. I am confident that you will find today's engaging discussion with Dr. Dave Rabin eye-opening and enlightening. IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: How touch helps us connect, bond, and support our autonomic nervous system How finding balance between the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems can help us manage stress and anxiety Techniques for quickly restoring balance to the nervous system Why women experience more anxiety, depression, and heart arrhythmias during perimenopause How breathing techniques can improve heart rate variability The significance of HRV metrics for understanding physical and mental health How the Apollo device activates a healing response within the body The potential of MDMA and other psychedelics hold for trauma healing Connect with Cynthia Thurlow Follow on X Instagram LinkedIn Check out Cynthia's website Submit your questions to support@cynthiathurlow.com Connect with Dr. Dave Rabin On his website Apollo Instagram X The Psychedelic Report Podcast Your Brain Explained Podcast Previous Episode Mentioned Ep. 91 – How To Listen To Your Body and DE-STRESS During COVID-19 – with Dr. David Rabin
