It's that time of the year when the boys get all spiffed up for the 2026 Tony Awards! No, not those Tony Awards. The ones where we hand out golden pentagrams to bands that wear their denim and leather proudly! This year we have special guest presenters from around the podcasting world. All bands and winners are selected for the coveted Tony Award by the man himself: our esteemed Chairman, Mr. Tony Griggs! What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss the SHOULD BEs. Taking their cues from the music, fashion, and the attitude from 40+ years ago, these younger bands unashamedly bask in a new underground movement of hard rock and metal poised to make the kids rock and the old timers smile! Songs this week include: Stereo Nasty – “Summoning” from Summoning (2026) The Night Eternal – “Where The World Ends” from Cold Velvet (2026) Savetta – “Heat Of The Night” from Heat Of The Night (2026) Spell – “Lilac” from Wretched Heart (2026) MEGA COLOSSUS – “The Halls Of Mystikos” from Watch Out! (2026) Stainless – “Rough Justice” from Lady Of Lust & Steel (2026) Chariots Overdrive – “Taikonautic Alchemist” from The End Of Antiquity (2026) White Wizzard – “Pay The Fiddler” from Pay The Fiddler (2025) Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts! In episode 283 of Heavy Metal Philosophy, Jon Barbas analyzes why metal media, and media more broadly, are contracting. Do we even still need print journalists now that we have content creators, influencers, and short-form content? Recently, a lot of metal magazines like Metal Injection, Metal Sucks, Brooklyn Vegan, and more experienced massive layoffs. Are these media layoffs the end of music journalism, or will influencers fill the void? Is that a good thing? What if a single animated film could forever change the way we perceive our childhood heroes? Join host Kevin Reid on this special episode of The K. B. Radio Network as he celebrates the 40th anniversary of the iconic 'Transformers: The Movie,' released in 1986. With a blend of nostalgia and heartfelt storytelling, Kevin takes listeners on a journey back to a time when the stakes were high, and the battles between Autobots and Decepticons were more than just mere entertainment—they were a pivotal part of growing up.As he reflects on the emotional turmoil of witnessing the traumatic death of Optimus Prime, Kevin shares personal anecdotes that resonate deeply with fans of his generation. This episode captures the essence of what made the film a groundbreaking experience, marking a significant departure from the animated series that preceded it. With its darker themes and intense storytelling, 'Transformers: The Movie' left an indelible mark on the hearts of many, including Kevin, who vividly recalls the feelings of devastation that washed over him and countless others during that pivotal scene.Listeners will also enjoy an in-depth discussion about the film's remarkable voice cast, featuring legendary talents such as Orson Welles and Leonard Nimoy, whose performances added layers of gravitas to the animated characters we loved. Kevin highlights the unforgettable heavy metal soundtrack that further enriched the film's atmosphere, making it a timeless classic that continues to resonate with audiences today. As he contrasts the storytelling of the original animated film with the later live-action adaptations, Kevin expresses skepticism about whether these newer films can ever truly capture the magic and emotional depth of the original series.Throughout the episode, Kevin invites fans to reflect on their own memories and feelings about 'Transformers: The Movie,' encouraging a dialogue about its lasting impact on pop culture and individual lives. Whether you were a child of the '80s or a new fan discovering the franchise, this episode of The K. B. Radio Network promises to evoke nostalgia, provoke thought, and celebrate the enduring legacy of a film that shaped the lives of many. Don't miss this chance to relive the excitement and heartbreak of a true cinematic milestone!Hosted on Ausha. See ausha.co/privacy-policy for more information.

Your Couch Potato Theater co-hosts and Fandom Podcast Network co-founders Kevin & Kyle welcome you to this special retrospective. We here at the Fandom Podcast Network are proud to celebrate Couch Potato Theater's special presentation of HEAVY METAL (1981). HEAVY METAL (1981) - Plot Description / Details: Heavy Metal is a 1981 Canadian adult animated science fantasy anthology film directed by Gerald Potterton (in his directorial debut) and produced by Ivan Reitman and Leonard Mogel, who also was the publisher of Heavy Metal magazine, which was the basis for the film. It starred the voices of Rodger Bumpass, Jackie Burroughs, John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Don Francks, Martin Lavut, Marilyn Lightstone, Eugene Levy, Alice Playten, Harold Ramis, Percy Rodriguez, Susan Roman, Richard Romanus, August Schellenberg, John Vernon, and Zal Yanovsky. The screenplay was written by Daniel Goldberg and Len Blum. The film is an anthology of various science-fiction and fantasy stories tied together by a single theme of an evil force that is "the sum of all evils". It was adapted from Heavy Metal magazine and original stories in the same spirit. Like the magazine, the film features a great deal of graphic violence, sexuality, and nudity. Its production was expedited by having several animation houses working simultaneously on different segments. Heavy Metal was released by Columbia Pictures on August 7, 1981. This week, we conclude our 4-part series on the 6th-leading cause of death in America.  We discuss how to protect the brain at all stages of life.  In this episode, we talk about:—Why Dr. Prather thinks it is an excuse that Alzheimer's is increasing because people are just living longer or it's diagnosed better, but that it is actually increasing because there is some kind of stressor that wasn't there before. —The importance of protecting Brain Health starting in the womb.  And how Iodine is the most critical part of Brain development and will determine how smart your child will be. —How breastfeeding is more beneficial for the development for the baby's brain and cuts down on brain problems later in life.—Why an annual Hair Analysis for children and adults  is important to identify Heavy Metal toxins, which damage the brain.—The link between gut health and Alzheimer's.  And the reason Dr. Prather recommends an annual stool kit for everyone (even babies) to identify the parasites and infections that can damage your Brain health. —How probiotics in the diet (such as fermented foods) and high Fiber intake are key reasons for healthy longevity in the "Blue Zone" areas of the world which have a large number of people living over the age of 100. —The health benefits of the Biblical dietary laws.—Why Sunshine is the best Vitamin D for the body, and is also estimated to provide 34 nutrients that come directly from the Sun.   And why Dr. Prather says it is "untrue" when they say Sunshine is bad for us. —The role proper sleep plays in Dementia and Alzheimer's because our body washes the brain of the amyloid plaques while we sleep.  And how using pharmaceuticals for sleep actually interferes with this process.    —How being around grandchildren is scientifically proven to help both the health of the grandparent and the development of the child. http://www.TheVoiceOfHealthRadio.com*Receive exclusive bonus content as a member of our Voice Of Health Patreon Community:https://www.patreon.com/cw/VoiceofHealthPodcast

From the Gibson Flying V and Explorer to the Jackson Randy Rhoads, Dean ML, B.C. Rich Warlock, and Ibanez RG, pointy guitars helped define the look and sound of hard rock and heavy metal. But how did these outrageous designs go from being dismissed as oddities to becoming some of the most iconic instruments in rock history?Author and musician Sean Kelly joins Booked On Rock to discuss his new book, Battle Axes: A Hard Rockin' History of Pointy Guitars. We explore the stories behind the guitars, the builders who created them, and the legendary players—including Randy Rhoads, Michael Schenker, Eddie Van Halen, Billy Gibbons, Paul Stanley, Twisted Sister, ZZ Top, Def Leppard, and more—who turned these instruments into rock icons.

Nox Sinister is hard to pin down into just one subgenre of heavy metal. They use a blend of techniques borrowed from NWOBHM, thrash, progressive, death and even power metal. The members of Sinister pride themselves on marrying aggression with theatricality, often using brutal thrashing riffs to tell complex stories with broad themes. Heavily inspired by the works of Shakespeare, dark fantasy, medieval history, comic book supervillains, and the world of horror movies, Nox Sinister seeks to create a new kind of sound and a new kind of live performance. Often using the phrase they have coined; "violent musical theatre,' Sinister is a force to be reckoned with both in the studio and on the stage.Something Rather Than Nothing Podcast

This episode discusses sensitive subjects, including psychiatric abuse, false memories, psychiatric over-medication, and mental health struggles involving self-harm.   What happens when a culture's collective fear is weaponized against the very people seeking help?   In this week's conversation, I'm talking with my friend and author Jamie Lyn Weaver. Jamie's new memoir, Locked in the Psych Ward, chronicles her survival during the Satanic Panic of the 1980s. She was kept in a locked ward for four years, heavily medicated, and coached into "recovering" memories of horrific events that never occurred.   Jamie discusses the audacity it took to finally put her story on paper and how the writing process itself became her path back to aliveness. We explore the role of "retractors" in healing and why her story is a vital warning for the world we live in today.   I'm Nancy Norbeck, and I'm your Messy Muse Mentor. I help people feel alive again through curiosity and play.   In this episode, I discuss: The Anatomy of a Panic: How psychiatric "experts" used leading questions and hypnosis to manufacture a crisis. The Witness Effect: Why having a safe, non-judgmental witness is the most powerful tool for creative and personal recovery. True vs. Not True: The mental struggle of surviving a ward that functioned like a cult. Creative Resilience: How Jamie moved from a childhood belief that she wasn't creative to writing a prize-winning memoir. Ready to send your inner critic to summer camp for an hour and just enjoy some creative company? We get together once a month for a relaxed, co-working-style session where you can work on whatever you want—without any pressure to do it "right." Back in the early 1980s, He‑Man and the Masters of the Universe burst onto TV screens like a cosmic smoothie of sci‑fi lasers, barbarian biceps, and Saturday‑morning sugar rush. It was as if someone took a Heavy Metal magazine, scrubbed off the questionable bits, and handed it to kids with a wink. Mattel's toy line became a treasure chest of plastic glory, and the franchise grew into a pop‑culture hydra—reboots sprouting everywhere, spin‑offs like She‑Ra galloping into battle, and nostalgia clinging to it all like glitter on a convention floor. Fast‑forward to 2026, when Amazon, MGM Studios, and Mattel teamed up to summon a new big‑screen epic: Masters of the Universe, polished, pricey, and ready to reclaim Eternia's throne.IMDB offered a delightfully simple tease: a young Earthling discovers he's actually the heir to an alien kingdom and must retrieve a magic sword to save his cosmic home. It's the kind of setup that practically begs for swirling portals, destiny‑laden speeches, and at least one dramatic sword‑raising pose. And naturally, the film delivers all of that with gusto.Directed by Travis Knight from a script shepherded by Chris Butler and a small fellowship of co‑writers, the movie stars Nicholas Galitzine as He‑Man, flanked by Camila Mendes, Idris Elba, Alison Brie, Morena Baccarin, and Jared Leto—who reportedly chews scenery as Skeletor with the enthusiasm of a Saturday‑morning villain who knows he's the real star. Critics responded with everything from polite nods to warm smiles, while audiences showered it with glowing praise. Yet even with all that cosmic charm, the film stumbled at the box office in what some have dubbed the year the blockbuster lost its spark. Now your co‑hosts strap on their power swords to explore this latest adventure and share their thoughts.
