The month of March brings to mind many things ranging from Leprechauns and St. Patrick's Day festivities but to sports fans this month is special because of March Madness where Division 1 college teams duke it out for basketball supremacy... Here at the Rants From the Black Lodge Podcast we love our heavy metal and 2023 will continue our new tradition in the style of the famed NCAA single elimination tournament with a hard rockin' twist. Tonight the Rant Army will album by album, song by song whittle down DIO's stellar catalog to decide which head banging anthem will reign supreme. Album by album, each panelist will have 2 minutes to argue their pick for the best song and the tune with the most votes will advance in the tournament. In the event that each panelist picks a different song, there will be an elimination vote and the 2 remaining songs will be voted on with only one moving to the next round. This will continue until there is only one song left standing. Each album and song will be designated a random number to corollate with its bracket position to keep the match ups as unbiased as possible. So, crack the volume to 11 and let's get ready to rock.

This week we bring you the first installment of Jarvis' interview with Carlos Cruz, a veteran drummer perhaps best known for his work in Warbringer and Powertrip. The interview begins with Carlos discussing his deep family roots in music, including his grandfather's recorded output. After a detour into the perils and hazards to the human body of playing heavy metal music for an extended period of time, and the corresponding need for self-care and treatment along the way, the interview traces Carlos' musical journey through high school cover bands to the burgeoning LA thrash movement in the early 2000s and eventually to the pivotal moment when he joined Warbringer in 2010. He goes on to tell the remarkable story of how the Frost and Fire debut album came to be. It was a completely DIY affair, from financing to recording to artwork to pressing to distribution, which was unheard of in those days. Rob also explains how he obtained the legal right to use the Cirith Ungol name from the Lord of the Rings books. It's a fascinating dive into a bygone era, at the very dawn of heavy metal in America. This week, the lads hop across the pond to continue excavating denim and leather. It's all about the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal! The NWOBM movement was filled with passionate bands that were poised to take over the world. Unfortunately, most of them didn't make it to the level of Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, or Saxon. Hopefully, we can help spread the word and sounds for those who didn't. What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss the LOST. For such a small island, they sure had a lot of amazing bands that set the standards for what is known as heavy metal. From the music, to the fashion, to the attitude… Over 45-years ago, these bands started an underground movement that would change hard rock and metal forever. Songs this week include: More – “Warhead” from Warhead (1981) DEMON – “Night Of The Demon” from Night Of The Demon (1981) Grim Reaper – “Run For Your Life” from See You In Hell (1983)  Bronz – “Heat Of The Night” from Taken By Storm (1983) Witchfynde – “Give ‘Em Hell” from Give ‘Em Hell(1980) Marseille – “Rock You Tonight” from Marseille (1979) Aragorn – “Black Ice” from The Neat Singles Collection Vol. 1 (1981) Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!:InObscuria Store Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/ https://www.facebook.com/InObscuria https://x.com/inobscuria https://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/ Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/ If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/ If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

Before the platinum records… before Metal Health changed heavy metal forever… there was a beginning — and not everyone remembers it the same way.In this episode, original bassist Kelly Garni tells his firsthand account of how Quiet Riot actually formed in early-70s Los Angeles. But the story longtime frontman Kevin DuBrow shared publicly over the years paints a very different picture. So which version is true?We dig into the conflicting origin stories, the friendships, the ambitions, and the mythology that formed one of the most important bands of the Sunset Strip era. Memory, ego, media narratives — and the passage of time — all collide as we try to separate rock history from rock legend. If you think you know how Quiet Riot started… you might not.Listen to Episode 358 - Kelly Garni: His Bond with Randy Rhoads & the Birth of Quiet Riot

Join Cult of the Living Dead as we plunge headfirst into cosmic nihilism, nerd fantasy, and rotoscope spectacle in Heavy Metal (1981). In this episode, The Dale, Cea, and Twan unpack the film's cult reputation, tracing the corrupting journey of the glowing green evil known as Loc-Nar as it threads together a chain of brutal, sex-charged, and apocalyptic tales across time and space, from doomed astronauts and warrior women to undead bombers. We explore how Heavy Metal collides science fiction, sword-and-sorcery, horror, and rock-and-roll excess into a delirious animated assault on morality, power, and desire. More than four decades later, it endures as one of the most abrasive and confrontational cult animation landmarks of the early 1980s.
