Under normal circumstances, the 20th anniversary of a consultancy company is not something I would get too excited about. It might be big news for them but it's not generally a big deal for the rest of us. C&D Engineering Consultancy is different. The company is so closely allied to the UK demolition industry that its 20-year history is interwoven into the very fabric of the sector. Many of the changes that have taken place in the demolition sector over the past two decades is reflected in or was actually pioneered by C&D. So, as the company marks its 20th anniversary, we caught up with founder John Woodward; current owner Mike Kehoe; and the man tipped as the future of C&D, Matthew Bardgett.

SURE, YOU'VE SEEN THE SHINING AND PET SEMATARY, BUT HAVE YOU SEEN ANY OF THE DOLLAR BABIES? THAT FAMOUS FAILED BROADWAY SHOW? THAT MOTION COMIC SPONSORED BY A MOBILE COMPANY? I also realize that God is using this infirmity in the process of conforming me to the image of Christ (Rom. 8:28,29). “All things are of God” (2nd Corinthians 5:18) B. Concerning My Soul: - Note: The soul is a trichotomy. Chris & Kelsey blaspheme against He Who Walks Behind the Rows this week, probably because they’re well past the age of favor. The "Original": Children of the Corn (1984) "A young couple is trapped in a remote town where a dangerous religious cult of children believe everyone over the age of 18 must be killed” (IMDb.com). This “original” adaptation of Stephen King’s short story takes quite a few liberties, but more often than not, these changes end up as beloved moments in 80s horror. But is it actually as scary and Chris and Kelsey remember? The “Remake”: Children of the Corn (2009) "While traveling, an unhappy married couple encounter a cult of murderous children who worship an entity called He Who Walks Behind the Rows” (IMDb.com). This version is much more faithful to the original story, much to its detriment. King’s overly hysterical dialogue doesn’t play so well when it doesn’t have the benefit of being broken up by his fascinating prose. Plus! We discuss the original short story and the actual first adaptation: 1983 short film Disciples of the Crow! Audio Sources: "Cabin in the Woods” produced by Lionsgate, et al. It sounds like a simple question, “Are you Chinese?” But why would someone ask it? And what makes it difficult for someone to answer it? Eric Liao, our blogger/podcast intern at One in a Billion, started writing a blog about this question a month ago. When I first read it, it overwhelmed me with provocative ideas and perplexing analogies, and many of the underlying sentiments turn out to resonate with many young Asians in America. So we decided to turn that unfinished blog into a full-fledged podcast. “Are you Chinese?” is not a simple question, as we've discovered after interviewing Eric and listening to dozens of Chinese and non-Chinese in America. It challenges their sense of belonging and individuality. Now, they’re speaking up. Their experiences tell a story of our common struggle when we’re in our 20s - our struggle to establish our identity and individuality, and our search for belonging.
