In this episode we're joined by NME legend Chris Salewicz, author of acclaimed books about Bob Marley, Joe Strummer and others. We hear about our guest's boyhood in Yorkshire — and about the first gig he ever saw: the Beatles in Leeds in 1963 (followed in rapid succession by the Rolling Stones — plus a young David Bowie — in Huddersfield). Chris then describes how a move to London in the early '70s led to getting his foot in the door at Let It Rock and then, in 1974, at the indispensable New Musical Express. Discussion of the culture at the NME — sprinkled with yarns about such colleagues as Mick Farren,  Tony Tyler and Tony Stewart — prompts recollections of Chris' interviews with Jimmy Page (in 1977) and Prince (in 1981)... and culminates in the moment he opted to quit the paper for pastures new. A digression on Supertramp's 50-year-old Crime of the Century sparks a passionate defence of that unfairly maligned ensemble by 28-year-old Jasper Murison-Bowie. Jumping forward to the 21st century, we hear wonderful clips from Gavin Martin's 2006 audio interview with the youngest member of the "27 Club" series Chris collected in his 2015 book Dead Gods. Our thoughts on the astounding talent and tragically short life of Amy Winehouse then follows. After Mark quotes from newly-added library pieces — Val Wilmer's 1967 interview with free-jazz trailblazer Archie Shepp; Mick Brown's 1975 encounter with Bakersfield country icon Buck Owens – Jasper concludes the episode with his thoughts on a piece about "hip hop's Mozart" J Dilla (2011). Many thanks to special guest Chris Salewicz. For more Chris and info about all his books, visit chris-salewicz.com. There's so much going on in this one; there's a hair band, lots of computer-talk, way too many main characters and some really great practical effects! We have absolutely no clue how old the characters are supposed to be, they are at once 17/21/30 and could be attending anything from a high school, to a college to some sort of magnate school or even a night class? Anyway, despite the lack of Halloween - this one is pretty fun! LET IT ROCK!

In this episode we welcome music writer/photographer turned award-winning TV director Mick Gold and ask him to return to the mid-'70s to discuss pub rock, Bruce Springsteen and the wonderful Let It Rock magazine. Mick explains how he fell in with Let It Rock's "hard-up left-wing intellectuals" after penning a 5,000-word Beatles thesis at Sussex University. We then hear about the magazine and its eclectic agenda, along with our guest's parallel career as a photographer and his 1976 photo-essay book Rock on the Road. This in turn leads to a conversation about the "pub rock" scene that mushroomed in London during Let It Rock's 1972-75 lifespan. Along with Mick's 1975 Dr. Feelgood interview, Mark, Martin and Barney share their memories of gigs by Kilburn & the High Roads and Chili Willi & the Red Hot Peppers. The gradual transition from Pub to Punk is recalled and analysed with passing reference to Mick's 1976 Street Life interview with Patti Smith. The mid-'70s theme takes us into clips from a 2016 audio interview in which Bruce Springsteen talks to Vanity Fair's David Kamp about 1975's breakthrough classic 'Born to Run' — and then to a further discussion of the Boss' inclusion in Jann Wenner's controversial new book The Masters. After Mark quotes from interviews with Dizzy Gillespie, James Brown, Todd Rundgren, Chic and Wham!, Jasper talks us out with his notes on pieces about Nona Hendryx and Rammellzee. Pieces discussed: The Band, Rock on the Road introduction, Bob Dylan at 60, Brinsley Schwarz, Dr. Feelgood, Pub Rock Proms, Bruce Springsteen on 'Born to Run', Dizzy Gillespie, Ike & Tina Turner, James Brown, Todd Rundgren, Chic, Wham!, Bruce Springsteen, Nona Hendryx and Rammellzee.

She explores rhythm, timing, balance and counterbalance as she has experienced them through her cosmic embodiment practices. Revisiting the principle of polarity, half moons and oppositional energy, Sista Sunday explains the neutralizing nature of walking the middle way and being in the flow~ aka Living in Rhythm. Describing the ways in which she uses Core Calibration to enhance focus, build strength and move beyond the current range of motion and comfort zone, Sista Sunday talks about the advantages of being precise, grounded and perceptive while centering within the field. On an astrological level, there is so much in flux. For Cosmic Synchronization, Sista Sunday emphasizes the Sun's transition into the zodiacal sign of Libra, marking the Autumnal Equinox in the northern hemisphere. On the same day as the Equinox, Mercury traverses the sky between the Earth and Sun which is known as an interior Cazimi of Mercury. She dives deep into the astronomical, astrological and esoteric significance of this season of the solar cycle. Regarding the waning moon, Sista Sunday highlights the Moon's procession through planets on its way to join the Sun for the New Moon on September 25th.Sista Sunday delves into the art & science of Living in Rhythm through Cosmic Synchronization with the Sun, Moon and Elements, as well as Core Calibration of the mind, body and spirit for empowering herself and others to let the soul shine. Jesse Rhys Cannon on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 6/22/22   About Jesse Rhys Cannon -   I somehow got my first work being paid in the music business when I was 15. Since then I've managed to work in nearly every facet of the music business. If a stranger happens to know who I am, they usually know me from being lucky enough to have worked on records in various capacities with bands like The Cure, Animal Collective, The Misfits, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Brand New, Limp Bizkit, Man Overboard, Somos, Basement, Kevin Devine, Weird Al Yankovic, NOFX and The Menzingers.    I'm also known for writing the book Get More Fans: The DIY Guide To The New Music Business, which has gone on to be one of the most popular books on the music business as well as the best selling book on creativity in music Processing Creativity: The Tools, Practices And Habits Used To Make Music You're Happy With. I also host two podcasts, Off The Record and Noise Creators and write articles on the music business for various sites like Alternative Press and Party Smasher Inc. along with a handful of others.   But that doesn't explain how I got to do all of that and that's what I'm supposed to explain here. When I was 15 I started to get paid for doing live sound at concerts and spoken word events. Two years later, a hilarious and fun guy by the name of Stork liked my mixes and invited me to engineer live performances at the world-renowned freeform radio station WFMU. There I was lucky enough to work for 9 years recording acts like The Magnetic Fields, Spoon, The Sea and The Cake, Olivia Tremor Control and a couple hundred others. Because of this I started doing live sound at local clubs The Pipeline and Connections. In time, I started booking shows for the company that booked those clubs and the legendary Coney Island High in NYC. Somewhere in this time I got my first credit on a record singing back up vocals on a song with Joey & Dee Dee Ramone, which I still question if I've ever topped.    Those jobs gave me enough courage to put on my own concerts, and be crazy enough to think I knew what I was doing enough to start recording local bands. But all of this would happen at night, so I needed a day job. I then started working at my local punk record store (Let It Rock), which then qualified me to work at Soapbox Records on St. Marks Place in NYC. This was great since it also housed esteemed indie label Go-Kart Records where I ran the record store and did publicity. While I love marketing, PR is way too social for me and I preferred talking to creative people instead of cranky zine editors. I was also writing for the esteemed zines of the day like Tape Op, Punk Planet and Maximum RockNRoll. So I decided to stop doing live sound and working at record labels in order to focus on record production. My boss at Go Kart was kind enough to give me a recommendation to Alan Douches at West West Side Music, who happens to be the engineer with the most credits in all of music history.   At West West Side I got to learn how to engineer and master from the best in the business. Not only did I get to work under Alan's amazing talent, the best producers in the business were coming by every day (J. Robbins, John Agnello, Brian McTernan) as well as the coolest bands around seemed to walk in the door every day (Fatboy Slim, Fall Out Boy, LCD Soundsystem, Brand New). In that time, I met Steve Evetts (one of my favorite producers growing up) and got to work with him on great records by The Dillinger Escape Plan, Senses Fail, Saves The Day and Say Anything. He then brought me to work with Ross Robinson (my other favorite producer growing up) and I got to work with The Cure & Limp Bizkit among others under him.   While all that was happening, two other significant parts of the story happened. I harnessed my own production skills and they became so in demand I started my own studio Cannon Found Soundation, which I still run to this day working with hundreds of bands a year. In that time these two interests collided and I decided to start a blog on the things other blogs weren't writing about in music and wanted to show all the secrets being hidden since that's the most punk thing you can do and punk is the closest thing I have to a religion.   This blog became Musformation, a blog I continued through 2015, when I decided to diversify my writing across sites with bigger audiences. The blog's music business articles seemed to be very popular and really resonated, so I decided to go with it. I started helping and then managing the two most promising bands I was producing — Man Overboard and Transit, so I could experiment with the ideas I was writing about. These ideas turned out to be right and both signed with one of the biggest indies in the world (Rise Records) and built massive fan bases under my watch.   That was fun and all, but managing and producing records full-time do not mix. So those bands went their way and I kept producing records. A lot of bands asked me to manage them, but I like sleep and hate stress so I decided against that option. I instead put out my book Get More Fans, so every band could learn everything I did working with them and researching the new music business. Because of that book I got a reputation for knowing music tech, which led me to getting approached to do the podcast, Off The Record and form Noise Creators, a service I co-founded that helps connect musicians with the best producers in music today. I now host Atlantic Records Inside The Album where I make audio documentaries on the creative processes of some of the best artists in music like Dashboard Confessional, nothing.nowhere, Jason Mraz and Vance Joy.    In 2017 I released Processing Creativity to much praise, I am presently working on a bunch of conversations I want to have on how we change the way people create music to reflect when creative science says enhances creativity. I am trying to change the way records are made and always looking for bands who are interested in doing something new and interesting. I am presently producing, mixing and mastering records 7 days a week and developing a documentary.   In 2019 I relaunched Musformation as a YouTube channel to start distributing the knowledge I've acquired to a new audience. As well I relaunched MusforMGMT where I am handling marketing and label services to established artists.   In 2020 I took on production duties for the hit podcast The Daily Beast's The New Abnormal as well as their other fantastic podcasts Fever Dreams & The Last Laugh. In 2021 I opened Podstream Studios a live streaming & podcast studio in the heart of Times Square as well as Brooklyn Recording Paradise Brooklyn's most enjoyable recording environment.   About The DJ Sessions - “The DJ Sessions” is a Twitch/Mixcloud "Featured Partner” live streaming/podcast series featuring electronic music DJ's/Producers via live mixes/interviews and streamed/distributed to a global audience. Big thank you to multi-platinum rock artist and songwriter Kevin Rudolf for coming on my show for an interview! Kevin talked about his early life of growing up on the upper east side of New York, his father being a DJ and mother being a rock singer, and being signed to Madonna's record label Maverick. He discussed moving to Miami, working with Timbaland, and signing to Cash Money. He got into the story behind his hit song Let It Rock and not knowing the radio impact that it would have. He spoke about having creative freedom at Cash Money, meeting Drake for the first time, and his vision of making it in the industry with his follow up hit song I Made It with Cash Money Heroes. He also got into working with Nas on his song N.Y.C., having to change his name to Space Rock due to a contract situation with Cash Money, and signing to Primary Wave Music. He gave his thoughts on rock artists' criticism of hip-hop artists making it into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Kevin then talked about going out to LA to write with artists such as Keith Urban and Selena Gomez, coming back to New York and feeling inspired to create his own music again, and his new music with Lil Wayne. He announced that he is working on his own hybrid memoir novel. Stay tuned! Follow Kevin Rudolf on Instagram and Twitter: @kevinrudolf Follow me on Instagram and Twitter: @thereelmax. (True Sounds of Liberty), which emerged from the late 1970s Los Angeles hardcore punk rock scene, Which is described as being Punk hardcore. punk anarcho-punk deathrock and horror punk. We're not talking about Abba!An agnostic libertarian, Grisham challenges some of the "cult" like practices in today's groups and encourages you to think for yourself, live without fear, and tap the resource of power that resides within us all. Jack an author, a front-man, an actor, and a "two-bit" carny hypnotist. As a vocalist for T.S.O.L., and the Joykiller, he's released close to twenty full-length records and toured all over the world. Jack has been blamed for enlightening, and corrupting the moldable minds of our youth for years—he has also been credited for influencing many of the top bands of today. As an author he's released three books, all to mostly favorable reviews—no one says Jack is a horrible writer, it's just that he brings the horrible to life with such skill that at times you practically need to be sedated to read his prose. 'An American Demon', 'Untamed' and 'Code Blue a Love Story' have all burned their ways into the scary netherworld of the human psyche. As an actor, Jack plays himself, a lovable con-man that you can't help to root for—'Suburbia', 'Let It Rock', 'Punks Not Dead', 'American Hardcore', 'Rage', 'Urban Struggle' and 'The Other F-Word' have all been graced with his almost-as-large-as-life screen presence. Grisham has been clean and semi-serene since 1989. Nicht zuletzt dank Songwriter-Söldner Desmond Child verfügt dieses Album über eine außergewöhnlich hohe Hit-Dichte! One relaxing evening by the pool, I was listening to the music of one of my childhood heroes, Kevin Rudolf. I was jamming out, really feeling his music on a visceral level, head bobbing, and all. I related to the lyrics in a way I couldn’t as a young boy. As I dove deeper into his music, some of which I had never heard before, I was enthralled by how moving, upbeat, and positive his lyrics were. The songs were actually… I hate to use the word because it’s so cliché… inspirational. Kevin Rudolf had created the soundtrack to my life.In that moment, I thought, “Huh, I should reach out to this guy to interview him on my podcast.” I searched for his email, which was shockingly easy to find, and typed up my proposal to him. I had to talk to Kevin. I wanted this more than I wanted a girlfriend when I was in sixth grade. It was April 1, 2019, over a decade after discovering him, and I wasn’t fooling around. At 6:29 PM, I sent the email (I’ll share my email templates later). Now, the waiting game. If he didn’t answer, I would follow-up a few more times before letting it be.At 8:42 PM, I received my reply:Hey JordanThanks for reaching out. I’d be happy to do the interview. When are you thinking? I can check the schedule with my manager and we’ll make it work.Yes! I did it!I leaped up from my seat with the most child-like excitement I had felt in years, parading through my apartment, yelling, jumping up and down, the whole nine yards. If anyone saw this, they would have thought I just won the Superbowl. As soon as I calmed down a minute or two later, my good friend Savannah called me. I picked it up.“Guess what?!?”“What, Jordan?”"Kevin Rudolf just agreed to come on the podcast! Remember, Let It Rock?“No way!”I shared my excitement with everyone. I texted my little brother, my mom, posted it to Instagram, Facebook, and even LinkedIn. I couldn’t believe it. My journey was, in a way, coming full circle.Listening to Kevin Rudolf's music with my early generation iPod Touch on the bus on the way to school as an 11-year-old, never in a billion years would I have been able to conceive the thought that I would interview him a decade later for something called a "podcast." Wild.We recorded that podcast in April of 2019 and it went well.Recently, Kevin and I met up in Miami to record another podcast and have lunch. Please, enjoy.Connect with Kevin on Instagram.

Live On Air with Steven Cuoco

Miami-based singer/songwriter Judah Holiday delivers a timeless breed of pop music full of infectious melodies and hypnotic beats, a dynamic that makes every track instantly euphoric. On his forthcoming debut LP, that warm and breezy sound serves as a backdrop for his deeply reflective lyrics—and ultimately turns his unflinching honesty into something powerfully life-affirming. The lead single from Holiday's debut, “Good Life” brings his nuanced songwriting to a piano-laced and impossibly sunny track sparked from a 2018 stint in rehab. “I started taking Adderall as a kid because I was a terrible student, and after a while it just became a part of me,” says Holiday. “I basically grew up thinking that I needed medication in order to do well in life.” Co-produced and co-written by Kevin Rudolf (the singer/songwriter/producer known for his four-times-platinum hit “Let It Rock”), “Good Life” brilliantly counters the bleakness of rehab with the brightness of sobriety—a contrast brought boldly to life in the song's riveting video. Growing up in the Bronx, Holiday began playing drums at age seven, then moved on to guitar in order to explore his natural affinity for melody. After writing his first song at age 14, he steadily built up a body of work showing the strength of his melodic talents, and later began gigging at iconic venues like CBGB Gallery. Although he quickly became a regular on the Lower East Side scene, Holiday increasingly longed for a change of pace, and in 2011 relocated to Miami. With his surroundings igniting an intense fascination with electronic dance music, he then immersed himself in studying production and introduced a whole new vitality into his sound. He also soon crossed paths with Rudolf, after serendipitously buying a guitar from his fellow New York native. “I played him some acoustic versions of songs of mine, and he ended up digging them, and now we work together almost every day,” Holiday says. As his artistry has evolved over the years, Holiday's music remains rooted in a classic sense of songcraft (largely inspired by his lifelong love of artists like James Taylor and Neil Young) and—above all—his undeniable intuition for unforgettable melody. “Usually the melodies come to me at the most unexpected times, like waking up from a nightmare at 3 a.m. or being out at breakfast with a bunch of friends,” Holiday points out. And by rigorously following those instincts, he continually channels a feel-good energy into even the most vulnerable material. “I started making music because I had a lot of trouble expressing myself, and songwriting was a way for me to speak my mind without interruption,” says Holiday. “Today I still just write based on what I'm feeling in the moment, and if it ends up connecting with people and makes them want to sing along, then that makes me happy too.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/steven-cuoco0/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/steven-cuoco0/support

Having worked himself up from guitar virtuoso to electronic music maven to studio musician to recording artist to hit producer, Kevin Rudolf is one of today's premier Renaissance Men. Those who heard "Let It Rock" without knowing Rudolf would be forgiven for thinking the hit single came out of nowhere. In fact, it was actually just one step in an already long and storied career. Now, after experiencing the gift and the curse of a huge record, Rudolf returns a smarter, more experienced, songwriter, singer and producer with his upcoming album, which has yet to be titled, featuring guest appearances by Three 6 Mafia, Lil Wayne and Rivers Cuomo. With the success of "Let It Rock," Rudolf's mind state shifted from tenuous to confident. "When you make a hit, you become a hit-maker in your own mind. Your whole swag is different and you get a lot of confidence in your success," says Rudolf. "With the new album, I'm going into it as someone who knows how to make hit records. Last time, I was just scrounging to figure out how to get on. Now I'm on and it's just about building on what I've achieved already. I know what I'll never do again." For the upcoming album Rudolf relocated from Miami to Los Angeles, building an in-house studio that became the de facto recording center for some of music's biggest acts, including Weezer, Simple Plan, Leona Lewis, Three 6 Mafia and Natasha Bedingfield. A new Hit Factory of sorts, Rudolf's house became a creative wellspring, attracting top talent that equally influenced, and was influenced by, his production skills.
