This week I'm delighted to welcome the legend that is Jack Mangles, Founder of MentorME.Jack is on a mission to stop 100,000 entrepreneurs being scammed by gurus! After 6 years in the corporate consulting world, Jack turned his eyes to side hustles during the pandemic to bolster his income. Turning an initial £400 investment in stock into £130,000 in revenue on Amazon in 12 months. Building on this, Jack wanted to diversify, but could not find anyone he could trust for mentoring, so the mission and vision of MentorME was born… the first vetted mentoring marketplace for side hustles & entrepreneurship. This week, Jacki and Lyle are joined by the absolutely wonderful Laura West. Laura is the founder and one of the advisors at Agencywise, a platform where agency owners can meet, network with and learn from fellow professionals, whilst also getting access to experts from the likes of finance, law and the economy. She has over 20 years of experience in the PR and Marketing industry, with a particular focus on helping agency founders grow and scale their businesses. Laura is certified in Agile and Change Management, and has used these skills to assist her clients in the running of their agencies. She also runs several initiatives that support and connect agency founders, such as Collaboration Club and Mentor Me. In a wide-ranging and energetic episode, Laura and Jacki swap stories about parenting their teenage sons during the Covid lockdown, and Laura discusses how a frustration with continually explaining the perennial changes within the PR industry to her clients led to her returning from a career break in an advisory role instead of as an agency lead as she had done in the past! Lyle talks to Laura about the pride she has taken in establishing a close-knit community of agency founders through the creation of Agencywise, and how the creation of this platform was predominantly inspired by wanting to provide the help and support she wished she had herself when she was running her own agency. Lyle can then only listen on as Jacki and Laura plan the first of what will surely be many lunches over the coming months, if only to bond over their shared enthusiasm for leaving motivational notes in their sons' packed lunches! To learn more about Agencywise, head to: https://agency-wise.co.uk/Artwork by Daff KjellströmMusic by Lyle FultonGet in touch via lyle@dimoso.com or info@dimoso.comMore information at www.dimoso.com and www.therestispr.comFollow us on Twitter - @TheRestIsPR Hosted on Acast. The October 21, 2023 Oktoberfest event. Wayne Wilson, the Exalted Ruler of the Petaluma Elks Lodge, joins Steve Jaxon and Herlinda Heras on Brew Ha Ha. The Petaluma Elks Lodge is sponsoring an Oktoberfest Beer Event on Saturday, October 21. The Elks are a charitable and fraternal organization, for men and women. This event is a fund raiser for The Elks National Foundation. Wayne Wilson describes their activities like Veterans service projects. The Elks also have one of the largest scholarship programs in the country and the National Foundation supports that. They also get involved in drug use prevention and organized sports competition. How the Elks Began The Elks lodge started as a bunch of Broadway actors in the 1870s. They were called The Jolly Corks. The New York Blue Laws prohibited bars from being open on Sundays. As a private club they could serve alcohol after midnight on Saturday nights. They also developed a social and fraternal organization to help their members with issues like injuries and medical problems. The original Elks held a vote to choose their mascot animal and it came down to a vote of 8-7 in favor of Elks over Buffaloes. They just held the Purple Pig Poker Run which is a combination poker game and car and motorcycle rally. It raises money for mental health and medical support for kids in need. Russian River Brewing Co. is open in Santa Rosa on 4th St. and at their big Windsor location. Visit their website for up-to-date hours, menus, beers and more. They have sold out tickets for the Oktoberfest Beer as of now so the best way to get in is as the guest of an Elks member. Anyone interested in the Elks can just come over and meet them. See our sponsor Victory House at Poppy Bank Epicenter online, for their latest viewing and menu options. Their events are an opportunity to socialize while also supporting their many charitable activities. They also put on Sunday Football Breakfasts. They get together with several TVs in a large facility and a patio out back with a barbeque. We also hear about the Mentor Me program and the Children's Christmas Party.

Damar Hamlin’s public collapse has highlighted our need for God. If you haven’t heard it yet, listen to Dan Orlavsky’s prayer on ESPN. On a national sports show he talked to God. He told him we are angry and confused and we’re talking to Him because prayer changes things. It was honest and bold and unexpected. But what happened to Damar has opened up conversations for all of us to reveal the God we love and who loves us to those around us. How will we respond? This world is in deep need of God. Founder and President of Mentor Me of West Michigan, Todd Ponstein, and Ministry Administrator Judi Jongekrijg joined us in studio to talk about what God is doing through their ministry. They partner youths in need with paid, trained mentors to walk alongside them in relationship and introduce them to the God who loves them. God is up to something beautiful through this ministry. You’re going to love these stories.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

“There are people in this world that want to give their time and knowledge for the betterment of others. There are people who want to light another candle and know it does not make theirs dimmer”, says Salline Handa of MentorMe, Kenya about the motivation of most mentors. MentorMe Kenya takes a fresh perspective at development by matching Kenyan and German mentors and mentees. The goal is for people to learn from each other, for “someone to hold your hand” to facilitate the transition from university into the labour market, make businesses more successful and help foreign companies to better understand the business environment and the people of Kenya. Salline also talks about about “grit”,staying on course, celebrating small wins and her daily routines including a prayer. Stephanie Kresser fonder of Ulster County Mentor Me told us why it's important to support our most vulnerable youth through mentoring. We also mentioned the case of the young mother Yesmi Lara, who has been brutally beaten by her partner and now her family needs our help while she remains in a coma. And as a bonus, we leave you with some vignettes of The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, celebrating the Hudson Valley Big Read.

In this episode, Jacob shares many stories from his upbringing that have led him to where he is today - running a non profit, a coaching business and a media company. Jacob shares the struggles that he faced along the way and the turning point in his life when he made a shift and didn't look back. Jacob made a list of the things that he couldn't live without - extreme sports, traveling, and helping people, and he found a way to build a life around them. This episode is packed full of inspiration. Jacob hopes to change the way people view skateboarders and after hearing this episode, you might just ponder the idea that skateboarders can do incredible work and also skate. Jacob Jenkins is a skateboarder and entrepreneur born in Charlotte, currently living in Phoenix. He moved to Arizona after backpacking around Central America for seven months and created Now Evolving Skateboarding Worldwide, a 501c3 nonprofit that focuses on building influential leaders through skateboarding while donating skateboards to foster care and feeding families in need. His inspiration came from seeing so many people around the world struggle and from the deep connection he had made with locals through the love of skateboarding. He made a commitment to himself that he would go back, build skateparks, and make the world a better place. He has donated over 100 skateboards through his nonprofit to local foster care and children in need around the world. The process is simple, when you buy a skateboard, NESW will donate one. He has also hosted the first skate competition in the Galapagos Islands, events in Panama, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Arizona. But, his proudest accomplishment has been feeding families in need, consisting of a thanksgiving food drive where volunteers get together to deliver thanksgiving feasts to at-risk families throughout the holidays.Follow Jacob on InstagramGet a skateboard = donate a skateboard
As an entrepreneur and a new mom, I'm all too familiar with the concept of “work-life balance”. It's a term that's thrown around so often in the online entrepreneurship space, but it's a term that seems quite far out of reach for busy moms, solopreneurs, and even well-established entrepreneurs. Ashley AsShire Adams is the founder of Mentor Me, a professional development and mentoring company for professional women teaching them how to leverage their leadership skills to thrive personally and professionally. She takes over Franly Advice today to share why work-life balance is a myth that holds women back. Instead of bursting your work-life balance bubble, Ashley shares why you should strive for a harmonious life as opposed to balance. If striking a balance between your busy work schedule and your personal life feels like an unattainable goal, this episode is for you. Ashley busts the myth of finding work-life balance while sharing the simple and effective strategies you need to live a more harmonious and fruitful life. It’s time to get loud and proud with journalist, TV presenter, and company founder Shelly Horton in this episode of FORTY. Shelly is a force to be reckoned with and - in the delightful and hilarious way that’s been the backbone of her media career for 20+ years - delivers her no-holds-barred, warts-and-all, laugh-out-loud recounts of the experiences that made her the woman she is today. From dismal dating tales after divorce to then marrying the love of her life at 40, from being told she was ‘too fat’ to be on-screen to owning her status as ‘the curvy redhead on the telly’, outlining the difference between being ‘childfree by choice’ and ‘childless’, and never being afraid to fake it till you make it. Shelly’s known (and paid!) for giving her opinions; so get that popcorn ready, sit back and relax while she takes you on a podcast trip worth hearing. What happens when you’re unapologetic about who you are and want to be? We find out in FORTY.
