Josh shares how this book came to be, touching on how childhood memories—like collecting sea glass with his mother—inspired the magical elements of his world. Josh Plasse is an actor, producer and published author. The son of a Navy Seal, he's appeared in more than 50 episodes of network television, including iCarly, Grey's Anatomy and The Baxters. His first novel, Dust, drops February 4, 2025 on Resolve Editions. In 2022, Josh co-wrote, produced, and acted in the feature film Ride, starring C. Thomas Howell, Annabeth Gish and Forrie J. Smith. Originally conceived as a television pilot, the script sold to a production house, who bobbled the project when the pandemic hit. Josh and his team then re-imagined it as a feature, raised the $2 million budget and set to work. The story of Ride's ride — its inception, production and promotional effort — is worth the listen alone. It's a lesson not only in imagination and fortitude, but the critical role strategic planning plays in translating an original story into a commercial success. Sometimes you need to exercise as much creativity on the promotional side of your project as you do the art itself. Get full access to The Morse Code at korby.substack.com/subscribe

Josh Plasse is a multifaceted talent in the entertainment industry, renowned for his work as an actor, boxer, writer, and producer. Born in Virginia, Josh is the son of a former US Navy SEAL and a 2012 Golden Gloves champion. He attended Virginia Commonwealth University from 2011 to 2013, studying Homeland Security and Criminal Justice, while being privately coached by Joseph Obermueller. With just five months of acting experience, Josh ambitiously moved to Hollywood to pursue a career in filmmaking. Josh made a notable guest appearance as Chris Cleaver on ABC's long-running hit drama, Grey's Anatomy, in 2018. He later joined the cast of iCarly as Wes, which was particularly thrilling for him since it was his favorite show growing up. In June 2021, Josh produced his company's first feature film, Yucca Valley. His acting repertoire includes appearances in Notorious, Grown-ish, Criminal Minds, Happily Never After, There's No Such Thing as Vampires, Murder in the Vineyard, and All Out Dysfunktion!. He stars in the Faith-based series The Baxters on Amazon Prime, based on Karen Kingsbury's best-selling novels. Josh's film work continues to impress, with performances in the TIFF favorite Wildflower, alongside Kiernan Shipka, Brad Garrett, Jean Smart, and Charlie Plummer, and The Resurrection of Charles Mansion, opposite Frank Grillo and Jaime King. Recently, he completed production on Ride, starring Annabeth Gish, a project he wrote, produced, and starred in as the male lead. Beyond his professional achievements, Josh is dedicated to charitable causes. This past fall, he launched 'Operation 22,' a campaign where he rucked 22 miles each day with a 22-pound rucksack for 22 consecutive days to raise awareness and funds to combat military suicide, with proceeds benefiting Stop Soldier Suicide. Josh and his wife currently reside in Nashville, TN, where he continues to focus on his acting, writing, and producing career. His diverse athletic pursuits include baseball, martial arts, football, tennis, basketball, track & field, boxing, swimming, and golf. Additionally, Josh is an avid whiskey enthusiast.

Being a veteran is tough. Your job was either killing or killing-adjacent, and that takes its toll. Often, that toll comes in the form of suicide. If we had a solution, we'd give one, but all we can do for now is raise awareness. And we do that by platforming Josh, who's decided to hike 22 miles a day for 22 days while carrying 22 pounds on his back. As you may have guessed, the number 22 is significant. Amanda Plasse was a beautiful 20-year-old woman from Massachusetts. But in August 2011, she was found brutally murdered in her apartment. Her death went unsolved until detectives reopened the case and realized that her killer had left his name in plain sight at the crime scene. But this grievous oversight was just one of the many issues Amanda's family had to face in order to seek justice. And you'll be surprised at what first responders can get away with. At 6:47pm on the 26th of August 2011, a frantic 911 call shattered the otherwise somewhat peaceful city of Chicopee, located on the Connecticut River in Hampden County, Western Massachusetts. Despite the crime rates of this area being quite high and well above the national average, its level of violent crimes is relatively low; so low in fact that in 2011 only one murder was reported. This is the story of 20-year-old Amanda Plasse.
An actor, writer, and producer based in Los Angeles, Josh is dedicated to bringing personal and impactful stories to the screen. Josh recently wrote and will produce his rodeo drama series, “Ride”. The pilot was optioned and fully financed by Southern Stories, LLC. He's now gearing up to shoot his company's first feature film, YUCCA VALLEY, this winter in Oklahoma. Most recently, Josh wrapped a three episode arc on the new iCarly revival opposite Miranda Cosgrove. He was also tapped by MGM to play Luke Baxter in the drama series “The Baxters”. Based on Karen Kingsbury's New York Times' best-selling novels, the series is produced by MGM, Will Packer, and Mark Burnett. MGM green-lit three consecutive seasons, which will release later this year. Josh stars beside Roma Downey, “The Bible,” and Ted McGinley, “Married With Children.” The series follows Luke Baxter's return to faith after he witnesses a tragic church shooting that takes the life of his father-in-law. An avid fan of sports, Josh won the 2012 East Coast Golden Gloves Championship, and is currently penning the true story of world champion boxer Chris Van Heerden. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/steven-cuoco0/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/steven-cuoco0/support

Actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Rich discuss his role in the Academy Award Best Picture nominated ‘Promising Young Woman,’ his Boston sports fandom that includes dinner with Rajon Rondo, partying with Rob Gronkowksi, but DOES NOT include being in a Paul Pierce Instagram video, how he landed the iconic McLovin role in Judd Apatow’s ‘Superbad’ and if it’s true his mom was on-set for his sex scene in that film, and his reaction to learning that the Dan Patrick Show has its own ‘McLovin. ‘Brother from Another’ co-host Michael Smith wraps up the hour revealing why he’s 100% head-over-heals in love with the NFL Draft. From his sketches of everyday life on the New York City subway, to an enormous light-up character that responds to the primal screams of human beings, Ami Plasse captures humanity in motion. Now a resident of Austin, Texas, Ami teaches animation workshops, creates "energy drawings" of musical performances and adorns utility poles throughout the city with the various insights of Angry Cloud. Among his many artistic influences are comicbook legend like Jack Kirby, gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson, illustrator Ralph Steadman, and the ghosts of the Jews of Lithuania.FacebookInstagram9panelcomics.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The NHL expanded to two cities for the 1974-75 season: Kansas City and Washington. Washington, of course, has turned into one of the National Hockey League’s marquee teams having won the 2017-18 Stanley Cup Championship. Kansas City, however, is one of the least-known teams in the history of sports. The Scouts, a team that lasted just two years, were moved to Colorado and played six years as the Rockies before moving again to New Jersey where, as the Devils, they have won three Stanley Cup Championships. But long before they were the Devils, the Scouts played in Kansas City – and they played to an empty house almost every night they took the ice at the Kemper Arena. The Scouts, as managing general partner Ed Thompson noted, were virtually doomed from the beginning. The NHL expansion draft was not set up like it is today, where a new team like the Vegas Golden Knights could be competitive right from the start, the Scouts had to play their first eight games on the road because their building wasn’t ready, ownership did not have deep pockets and tragedy struck very early. There was some good, like two victories against the Boston Bruins, a win over the Montreal Canadiens, but the good was too few and too far between as Kansas City won just 15 games in its first year and 12 in its final year. The Scouts endured winless streaks of 16 games and 27 games … and there were too few stars, but the ones they did have were pretty good: Simon Nolet, Guy Charron (via trade), Wilf Paiemont, Dennis Herron (via trade), Gary Croteau … but there just wasn’t enough depth to help them sustain any sort of consistent attack. Troy Treasure who recently released the book, “Icing on the Plains – The Rough Ride of Kansas City’s NHL Scouts,” joins the podcast to discuss the Scouts and brings along some terrific and unreal stories about their two-year existence. Ami Plasse is one of the most sociable illustrators to bless the streets of New York and Austin, TX. From live music to around-the-town scenes, his sketches capture interesting personalities in a style that everyone spots as Ami's. He's even published a book, Ami Underground — a kaleidoscope of sketches from New York's subway system. Did we mention he's also a seasoned creative director? We talked about why it's okay to be an extroverted artist, his grind at Parsons, riding bikes, and where his company, Gonzo Viz, is headed!

Halen Brands, a privately held operating company that invests in, acquires, and operates food and beverage brands, describes itself as “created by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs.” It’s an appropriate tagline given Halen’s leadership team, which is headed by founder and co-CEO Jason Cohen, a highly successful entrepreneur and investor who’s grown and sold brands including Mamma Says, Sensible Portions, Rickland Orchards and partnered with the founders of Skinny Pop for a combined total of over $560 million. In an interview featured in this week’s episode, Cohen discussed his background in the food and beverage business and why he launched Halen, which in partnership with Clearlake Capital, currently has investments in fast-growing brands including CORE and Chef’s Cut Jerky and recently acquired OWYN, a brand of plant-protein drinks and shake powders. Cohen also shared lessons about building successful relationships with retail buyers and the one thing entrepreneurs should avoid if they want to sell their company. Also included in this week’s episode: An interview with Ken Plasse, the CEO of Fishpeople Seafood, a leading brand of sustainable and traceable seafood. Plasse spoke about the company’s mission to “change consumers’ relationship with the sea” and to preserve and support local fishing communities. And in the latest edition of Elevator Talk, we speak with Sarah Hardgrove-Koleno, the co-founder and CEO of KRā, an organic sports drink brand. Show notes: 1:05: It’s Automatic: A growing number of high-end automatic coffee and tea machines have come to market, and a few have arrived here at the office. While some might accuse the devices of undercutting the artisanal quality derived from, say, the long steeped cold brew, the ceremony of matcha preparation or the gentle nature of pour-over coffee, manufacturers promote the consistency and convenience of the machines versus traditional tools. The hosts experiment with a few of these countertop appliances and offer their takes. 11:57: Interview: Jason Cohen, Founder, Co-CEO, Halen Brands -- Cohen recently visited BevNET HQ in Watertown, Mass. and spoke with Project NOSH editor Carol Ortenberg and BevNET CMO Mike Schneider about his career as an entrepreneur and investor. As part of the conversation, Cohen implores other entrepreneurs not to get “too attached to your brand if your ultimate goal is to sell it,” explains why “competitive friendliness” among other small food makers helped build the fast-growing better-for-you snack set and what he perceives as the differences between the food and beverage industries. 36:37: Interview: Ken Plasse, CEO, Fishpeople Seafood -- Plasse joined Carol Ortenberg for a conversation recorded at the recently held Esca Bona conference in Austin, Texas. He discussed how Fishpeople attempts to build its brand story by drawing a direct line from its fishing partners to consumers and how its e-commerce platform presents an amazing opportunity to communicate directly with -- and learn from -- its customers. 59:05: Elevator Talk: Sarah Hardgrove-Koleno, Co-Founder/CEO, KRā -- A former attorney based in Chicago, Hardgrove-Koleno last year co-founded KRā, an organic sports drink brand. We caught up with Sarah at the NACS 2017 show and connected for this edition of Elevator Talk. Brands in this episode: Ito En, Halen Brands, Mamma Says, Sensible Portions, Rickland Orchards, Skinny Pop, CORE, Chef’s Cut Jerky, OWYN, Fishpeople Seafood, KRā
