This week, Jason is joined by former Navy Seal, entrepreneur, New York Times bestselling author, speaker, and podcast host, Robert J. O'Neill! Robert is one of the most highly decorated combat veterans of our time. He served at Seal Team two, Seal Team four, and eight years at the legendary Seal Team six. Having taken part in leading over 400 combat missions around the world, he has decorated 53 times with honors. More notably, Robert took part in the rescue operation Red Wings, which extracted the lone survivor Marcus Latrell. He was the lead jumper for the rescue operation that saved Captain Richard Phillips and some from the Somali Pirates, and he was a team leader for Operation Neptune Spear, the mission to kill Osama Bin Laden.  In this powerful episode, Robert shares how mastering free throws opened his eyes to the power of muscle memory and the importance of setting both short- and long-term goals. He discusses how a breakup unexpectedly led him to enlist in the Navy, the rigorous journey to becoming a Navy SEAL—including the numbers behind selection, the grueling Hell Week, and the intense “drown-proofing” training designed to teach calm under pressure. Robert reflects on the critical need for adaptability, managing stress, and keeping things simple under extreme conditions. He opens up about the long-term emotional processing of his time on the SEAL team, takes us behind the scenes of the mission to find Osama Bin Laden, and shares the mindset that fueled that operation. Robert also discusses the aftermath of becoming publicly known as the man who killed Bin Laden, the financial realities faced by many in the military, and his efforts to support veterans through new initiatives. Finally, he explores the concept of the butterfly effect—and shares his perspective on the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. Robert reveals all this and so much more in another episode you can't afford to miss! From the Mountains to the Mission: Commander J.D. Donaldson & Captain Bradley Geary's Journey of Service and Sacrifice This week, Marcus and Melanie welcome Commander Jed “J.D.” Donaldson, and Captain Bradley Geary to the Team Never Quit Podcast. J.D Donaldson, a West Virginia native whose journey from small-town athlete to elite Navy SEAL leader is nothing short of remarkable. Raised in Hedgesville and shaped by strong family values and athletic discipline, J.D. earned a U.S. Naval Academy appointment and went on to win two national boxing championships before graduating with a degree in Physics (Oceanography). Selected for SEAL training alongside a small group of peers, J.D. would go on to serve in multiple SEAL Teams across global deployments, holding command positions at SEAL Team Eight and SEAL Team Four, and leading strategic operations in Africa with Special Operations Command. His time at the elite Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU) marks the pinnacle of a career defined by leadership, courage, and brotherhood. Now, as Training and Facilities Manager at GBRS Group, J.D. continues to serve the veteran and first responder community, equipping them with the tools and training to thrive. In this episode, we explore how his experiences shaped his approach to leadership, resilience, family, and life after service. Captain Bradley Geary is a retired Navy SEAL officer with 24 years of distinguished service in Naval Special Warfare. A 2000 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and SEAL Qualification Training Class 234, he led elite teams across the globe—from SEAL Team Four to commanding SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team One. He most recently served as Commanding Officer of Naval Special Warfare Basic Training Command. Captain Geary holds a master's in Defense Analysis and has spent his career training, leading, and mentoring some of the most elite warriors in the world. In This Episode You Will Hear: • I was first chair trumpet in high school. Muscular lips. (22:38) • One of the psych's did a study of all the attributes access the teams to find out what's consistent across all the force. The only attribute he could find consistent with 100% of us the sense of levity – humor. (32:12) • In the darkest moments of our careers, you'll find the funniest things (33:20) • There's this one young officer standing there, smiling ear to ear. I said “Yo dude, I just cancelled your Christmas break, they got you wet and sandy. Why are you smiling? [His response was] “This is everything I was waiting for, and everything I hoped it would be.” (35:59) • Press into the suffering. All of a sudden, it's not enjoyable, but it changes your mindset. (36:47) • [Marcus] McGraw had more fractures than he had legs. No quit in this dude. (47:18) • The guy next to me, Greg Klein, a huge Green Beret and Marine Force Recon. The instructor says “Klein, what're you doing here? You're Army Green Beret; you're Marine Force Recon. He's like “I thought I'd take a break.” (48:07) • Danny [Dietz] was probably the best pilot I've ever seen. He was amazing. (68:31) • We were in Chesapeake Bay, and I'm looking at the bearings. All of a sudden, I'm like “Hey! Danny!  We're like 90 degrees off course. What are you doing? Next thing I know, we bounce off the bottom. He had fallen asleep driving the STD. We had been out there so long that night. (68:52) • It comes back to Who's under the boat? Who's carrying their weight? Who's sacrificing for their teammates? And Danny [Dietz] was always that guy. (79:32) • [Danny Dietz is the] most selfless dude I've ever met. (79:58) • Whatever he [Danny Dietz] did, he did with excellence. He just owned it. (80:25) • It was the first time that I'd lost anybody close, and I walked out to the gravel, looked up to the heavens and I got to thinking. He was probably one of the key elements of my success in my entire career. I looked up to the stars and thought: “Alright Lord, If I was up there and Mike was down here, what would I say to him?” I'd say: “Think well of me and get back to work.” 120:54) • I hadn't brushed my teeth in like 84 hours. (121:53) • Leonidus didn't choose the 300 [Spartans] because they were the best warriors. He chose them because they had the best women. (139:21) • Suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, character produces hope. All the answers are right in this book. David Waldman throws the news at us and dives for cover. Greg Dworkin tells us that the worst is by design, and he brings the receipts from around the world. Trump makes the world safe for White flight. Donald stopped the war between India and Pakistan using only his mind. He is now wishing the war in Gaza to end. Who's Ukraine? Maybe they got him coffee one time. South Korea's conservatives throw everything up in the air to see if it all falls into place. Germany wishes to ignore their far-right, but they are a noisy bunch. After 40 years, the Kurdish group PKK says, “Oh well, it was worth a try.” In Virginia, they have no one to blame but themselves but probably won't. So, Qatar is sending Trump a giant golden palace of a 747. Hey, can't a country give their buddy a thing without everyone suddenly questioning it? The White House said Ceci n'est pas une émolument, or something to that effect. Anyhow, Trump is only borrowing it until he keeps it... that's not “corrupt”, it's called “being smart”. You'd have to be a radical Left Trump hater to say otherwise. Trump said “tariffs”, setting off another sheep stampede. Time for another executive order to yell at another cloud, this time to demand that prices go down from up where they are. Drug prices should go down once the customer base passes away. James Bond still can rest easy, his car shopping remains tariff-free. Insult to Nazis, Steven Miller, is thinking about suspending habeas corpus, inspiring fantasies of abusing his corpus. David explains habeas corpus, as does just about everyone with a keyboard this morning. We have always been at war with Eastasia. Newark Mayor Ras Baraka refused to take the bait at an ICE detention center, but that didn't keep them from arresting him. He's lucky they didn't send in Seal Team 6.

When you hear the phrase living legend, what comes to mind?....to me…this is someone who has lived a life to their fullest. A life that inspires us to be our best. Someone whose legacy will outlast them.Today, I have the pleasure of releasing my conversation with a true living legend…Bob Gaines. Bob began climbing in the mid-1970s—right in the thick of climbing's golden era, alongside icons like Ron Kauk, Scott Cosgrove, John Bachar, John Long, and Lynn Hill. But Bob wasn't just in the audience—he was part of the show. He became John Long's main climbing partner for five years. He trained hard, soloed hard, and became a Joshua Tree lifer—watching legends like Bachar soloing 5.10s and 11s before most people had their morning coffee. It's easy to remember these iconic names like John Bachar and Lynn Hill, but Bob Gaines has his own right to stand amongst these icons of climbing. With nearly 600 first ascents under his belt, and 500 of them located solely in Joshua Tree California. Bob has certainly stamped his name into the history of climbing. His routes are known for being clean, creative, and undeniably classic—if you're on a Bob Gaines line, chances are you're giving it four stars on Mountain Project. This episode marks Bob's first-ever podcast appearance. I give him the chance to share his origin story. How he found climbing and how the icons of history directly influenced his journey. We dive deep into several of his key first ascents, so get out your MP and be ready to add a bunch of climbs to your to do list. We explore the controversial issue of bolting, how that process developed over the decades, and how we are currently in a time period where we may lose the freedom to bolt in wilderness areas entirely. We explore Bob's unique experience in Hollywood as a stunt double for William Shatner in Star Trek V and safety officer for the 1993 movie Cliffhanger. And finally we speak about Bob's unique experience as a climbing instructor for SEAL Team 6. This is a rare, wide-ranging conversation with a man who's lived more life than most of us can imagine.----HELP SUPPORT THE SHOW & GET ACCESS TO EXCLUSIVE EPISODES!  For a little as $5/mo!----Don't forget to check out our full video episodes on Youtube! The TCM movement is growing but we need your help to spread the word! Yeah, he was the unicorn Jocko's platoon didn't know they needed.  - Resigning his commission to go enlisted PJ was peak “screw your desk job” energy—respect the hustle.  - No phone, just an iPad mini and Wi-Fi vibes—Donny's living like it's 1995, and we're low-key jealous.  - Ambassador to the Philippines? His Filipino DNA and SOF street cred make him the guy to bridge nations, no cap.Call-to-Actions:Alright, you legends, it's time to move out! Smash that like button like it's a BUD/S surf torture session. Subscribe so you don't miss us roasting the next hero. Ren Systems is pioneering relationship intelligence for dealmakers, having raised $8.8 million to filter the increasing noise in today's information landscape. In this episode of Category Visionaries, I spoke with Canay Deniz about Ren's journey from a serendipitous meeting with high-level executives to building a platform that helps commercial real estate brokers, management consultants, and investment bankers extract signal from noise in their relationship networks. Topics Discussed: The origin story of Ren Systems through a chance connection with Mike Hayes (former commander of SEAL Team 2) How COVID-19 affected the company's early days when they launched on March 1, 2020 Ren's deliberate two-year product development period before active go-to-market The hybrid approach to growth combining product-led growth with enterprise sales Ren's relationship with strategic investor ZoomInfo and their complementary positioning The increasing importance of human relationships in an AI-dominated world   GTM Lessons For B2B Founders: Patient capital enables product excellence: Canay's investors allowed them to spend two years in "the lab" perfecting their product experience before aggressive commercialization. This patience enabled them to build something truly differentiated in a crowded sales intelligence space. As Canay notes, "Getting that first end user experience right is hyper important, even if you're completely planning on becoming an enterprise solution." Build for your actual users, not idealized personas: Ren Systems' target users are senior dealmakers who "can't be bothered to even open their email." Understanding this reality shaped their product to deliver extreme value with minimal friction. Canay explains, "The demand for solutions just value is pretty extreme with our end users. I don't have time to do anything, click a button, open anything, like learn a new tool. It just needs to work and if it doesn't work within 5 seconds, I already lost interest." End users create enterprise momentum: By focusing on individual user adoption first, Ren Systems created internal demand that made enterprise sales conversations easier. "When we have the conversation with an actual buyer decision maker, we're going to them saying, 'Listen, you know, a couple dozen people are on our platform already. If you want to coordinate this and make the roll a lot smoother for you guys, we can help with that.'" This bottom-up approach means decision-makers have often "heard about it internally already." Find your serendipity engine: Ren Systems began when Canay reached out to a friend before his honeymoon, who connected him with Mike Hayes, which led to connections with Fortune 200 founders. This network became both their initial investors and beta testers. As Canay says, "If it wasn't for warm introductions from very impressive people, nobody would have taken the time to talk to good old me." When selling to sellers, leverage their natural behaviors: Ren's sales approach capitalizes on their target audience's behaviors: "When you're selling to sellers, it's really insane how often they pick up the phone. Cold calling is an excellent way for us to build pipe." Additionally, relationship-driven sellers naturally refer others: "We talk to people, we ask, 'If there's anyone else that you can think of that could benefit from this?' And oftentimes we get back a dozen or so names." //   Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe.  www.GlobalTalent.co

You gotta be really sure why you're doing it. (26:30) • It's hard, when you talk to somebody, to tell their story. (27:14) • Having those hard conversations with people. It's kind of difficult. And to put in on film is another level of difficulty. (27:26) • The big thing we were doing was overwatches. Clearance operations, pushing through a sector. Establishing a foothold. (31:31) • Often, we never made it to the next cycle. They would start surrounding us, then we were like “We're out.” Then we'd have to shoot our way out. (32:00) • Everybody got fragged. When you hear a piece of metal land on concrete, it's a very distinct sound. (40:55) • There's nothing I wouldn't do with the guys. Shoulder to shoulder, I'll Walk through the fire • with you guys. When you're by yourself, it's a little scary. (79:45) • Well, if we don't make it, at least we'll all die together. (80:35) • I'd rather die with my bro's, than die alone.
