Epcot or Magic Kingdom? Dole Whip or Mickey pretzel? Castaway Cay or Lighthouse Point? This week Lisa puts Steve and Debbie in the hot seat for a rapid-fire (okay… not-so-rapid-fire) round of "This or That." Two options, gut-instinct answers, and a whole lot of friendly disagreement — with plenty of insider reasoning packed in along the way. Some are total no-brainers, a few get controversial, and Lisa tries (and mostly fails) to predict everyone's answers. It's a fun, easy listen packed with real opinions from travel agents who live and breathe Disney. Play along at home and see how many you match! In This Episode Intro — (0:00) A smaller crew this week — Caitlyn's on baby watch and Sharpie's out — so Lisa runs the game with Steve and Debbie. Parks & Planning — (1:05) Magic Kingdom or Epcot? • Rope drop or stay late? (plus everyone's favorite ride to look at lit up at night) • Lightning Lane vs. standby • Disney World or Disneyland? (and yes, Steve really does drive from Atlanta) • Table service or quick service? Rides & Coasters — (7:56) Space Mountain or Big Thunder? • Rise of the Resistance — Disneyland vs. Disney World • Slinky Dog Dash or Seven Dwarfs Mine Train? • Pirates of the Caribbean East or West? • Matterhorn or Expedition Everest? Cruise & Castaway — (8:30) Castaway Cay or a Caribbean port? • Castaway Cay or Lighthouse Point? • Cruise dinner or brunch? • Newest ship or the classics? • Concierge or excursions? • Alaska or Caribbean? • Poolside day or excursion day? Resorts, Snacks & Sweets — (11:54) On-property or offsite savings (Debbie would pick All-Star Sports over the Ritz!) • Dole Whip or Mickey pretzel? • Beignets at Port Orleans or churros on Main Street? More Park Favorites — (14:26) Park hopper or one park? • Fireworks or one more ride? • Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios? • Genie+ or the old free FastPass+ days? • Haunted Mansion — Florida or the Disneyland Nightmare Before Christmas overlay? • Disney Springs or Downtown Disney? • Villains or princesses? • Monorail or Skyliner? • Adults-only trip or bring the whole family? • Very Merry Christmas Party or Not-So-Scary Halloween? ⚡ Lightning Round — Both Answer at Once! — (27:30) Splash Mountain or Tiana's Bayou Adventure? • Wishes or Happily Ever After? • IllumiNations or Luminous? • The dearly missed Magical Express • Extra Magic Hours or today's early entry + evening hours? • The Great Movie Ride or Runaway Railway? • Maelstrom or Frozen Ever After? • Ellen's Energy Adventure or Guardians Cosmic Rewind? • Paper FastPass or booking in the app? • Soarin' Over California or Around the World? • MaxPass nostalgia • Tower of Terror or Guardians Mission Breakout? • Old or new Test Track? • Main Street Electrical Parade or Paint the Night? A good idea never goes to waste at Imagineering, even if it takes years to implement it in the Disney parks. On this episode of Distory Nite Shift, we explore some rare Disney concepts that evolved into pieces of the parks we know and love today. After giving our thoughts about the musical score in the caverns, we explore some hidden remnants of Disney history that are still found in the parks today. Following the evolution of park elements like Journey Into Imagination, Cinderella Castle, and the World of Tomorrow, we explore just a few of the many ideas the Imagineers refused to let die. As we float through Dead Man's Cove, we follow a skeleton rabbit trail through Disney history, speculate about the upcoming Space Mountain refurbishment, and talk about how scenes in some of Disney's most iconic rides provide proof that sometimes the most powerful storytelling comes through silence, atmosphere, and trusting your audience.Help us celebrate 200 Episodes of Distory!

A major Space Mountain refurbishment may be under consideration at Walt Disney World, and the rumor has Disney fans wondering how much of the classic attraction could change. Lauren and Eric break down reports of a possible retrack, redesigned queue and loading areas, updated ride vehicles, and new audio. They also discuss what an extended closure could mean for the PeopleMover and the larger future of Tomorrowland. Then, inspired by Space Mountain's notoriously rough ride, they compare the Disney attractions most likely to leave guests sore, dizzy, or searching for a chiropractor. HIGHLIGHTS • The latest rumor surrounding a major Space Mountain refurbishment at Walt Disney World. • What a possible retrack, redesigned queue, updated vehicles, and new audio could mean for the attraction. • Why fans want Disney to preserve Space Mountain's music, atmosphere, and classic Tomorrowland identity. • How an extended Space Mountain closure could affect the PeopleMover. • Whether Disney could add Star Wars, WALL-E, or another intellectual property to the ride. • Space Mountain, Matterhorn Bobsleds, Dinosaur, and Goofy's Sky School compete for Disney's roughest ride. • Mission: SPACE, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Smugglers Run, and Summit Plummet also earn painful reputations. "Parallel Universe" When I was working in college radio it seemed like Hypnolovewheel was putting out a record every year. And it felt that way because they pretty much were. Although they'd put out two records in the eighties, in the '90s the Long Island outfit released a trilogy of albums in an indie rock whirlwind: there was 1991's Space Mountain, 1992's Angel Food and 1993's Altered States. An EP followed and--well, that was pretty much it. More on that in a second. Over the course of their seven-year career, Hypnolovewheel toured with Kitchens of Distinction and King Missle, opened for fIREHOSE, the Jesus Lizard and the Fleshtones, got played on 120 Minutes and got rave reviews from The New York Times and were featured in Spider-Man comics. The band's compositions were loaded with clever lyrics, sneaky rhythms and hooks galore and each song jangled away with grinding, catchy beauty. Falling somewhere between R.E.M. and Lotion, Hypnolovewheel are one of those bands that may have been overlooked simply because college radio was a crowded and competitive field, but their new compilation Parallel Universe is a perfect sampler of what you might have missed, were you one of the folks who missed these guys the first time around. Drummer Peter Walsh passed away in 2021, but the remaining members are active in the reissue campaign of their back catalog and there's a lot of music to hear. https://hypnolovewheel1.bandcamp.com/album/parallel-universe https://www.instagram.com/hypnolovewheel/ www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers: Threads + IG + BLUESKY: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

Busch Gardens Tampa is closing Kumba, one of the most beloved B&M sit-down coasters ever built and the fourth-oldest operating B&M in the world, on August 2nd. Mike and EB spend the first drop giving a 33-year-old classic its proper send-off — the terrain-hugging layout, the iconic photo op under the corkscrew, the fact that it opened the same year Mike graduated high school — before digging into what "Kumba's Revenge" and a $100 million investment might mean for the space it leaves behind. From there, the news gets genuinely interesting: a strong rumor that Disney World's Space Mountain could get fully gutted and rebuilt from the inside out (with the guys making the case for why the purists are wrong this time), a D23 session themed to the Carousel of Progress that's being hosted by none other than Coaster Radio's own announcer, Neil Patrick Harris, and a reveal date for Six Flags Great Adventure's mysterious Project Purple — teased via a barnacle-covered shipping container reading "GVV," which may or may not stand for a name neither host can bring themselves to like. After the break, EB dives into a genuinely enormous care package from a listener packed with park maps, hats, collectible coins, and ceramic bourbon poker chips, before the two get into the show's real centerpiece this week: BlooLoop's list of the 26 best theme park attractions in the world. It's a sprawling, hotly contested countdown spanning six continents' worth of dark rides, and Mike and EB don't hold back — disagreeing hard on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, defending Pirates of the Caribbean's 60-year-old technology, and debating whether a ride that's been open for a matter of months deserves to be crowned the single best attraction on the planet.

We have got a LOT to cover this week and honestly the news just keeps coming. Let's get into it. First up, Magic of Disney Animation finally has an opening date and it is September 14th. This is the brand new experience coming to the reimagined Animation Courtyard at Hollywood Studios and it sounds like a really solid lineup. You've got Drawn to Wonderland which is a playground experience, Off the Page for character meetings, Olaf Draws which is a drawing class (yes please), the Once Upon a Studio Theater, and more. This feels like a real destination area and we are genuinely excited to check it out. Quick financial note for anyone who follows the business side of things: The Walt Disney Company drops their 3rd Quarter financial results on Wednesday August 5th at 8:30am Eastern via live webcast. Worth keeping an eye on. Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party fans, heads up. October 13th and August 18th are the next two dates to sell out and they are moving faster than last year. If you are on the fence about grabbing tickets, stop waiting. Also interesting, both Beak and Barrel and Geo-82 went to walk-up lists last week, which is actually a first for those spots. The party crowd is hungry. Now let's talk D23 because things are getting really exciting. Neil Patrick Harris is going to host the Experiences Showcase and honestly the format sounds amazing. It's inspired by the Carousel of Progress, he'll be guiding the whole show, chatting with Imagineers and storytellers, and there are supposed to be announcements, special performances, and surprises. We are so ready. Also at D23, Leslie Iwerks is debuting a brand new documentary focused on Disney Parks. She made the Imagineering Story and Disneyland Handcrafted, so the pedigree here is outstanding. We also want to take a moment to acknowledge that her father Don Iwerks recently passed away at 96. Don was an absolute legend. He developed the 360 degree Circle Vision camera, built the film equipment used at the 1964 World's Fair, engineered the 3D film and effects for Captain EO, and built the projection system for Star Tours. What a career. What a legacy. And then there is the Space Mountain rumor that has everyone buzzing. Word is the attraction could be getting a very major refurbishment, potentially including a full track replacement, updated audio, and a redesigned ride vehicle that seats two across instead of single file. Nothing confirmed yet but this might be something we hear more about at D23 next month. So yeah, a packed episode. Drop your thoughts in the comments below. What are you most excited about? Rumors are swirling that Magic Kingdom's iconic Space Mountain could be headed for its biggest transformation since opening in 1975. This week, we break down what's being reported, separate rumor from reality, and discuss what a project of this scale could mean for the future of Tomorrowland. Lauren and Eric talk through the nightmare scenario every theme park fan secretly worries about: getting stuck high above the ground on a ride. From a real-world roller coaster evacuation in Galveston to Disney attractions like the Skyliner, Space Mountain, Incredicoaster, and the monorail, they weigh which breakdowns would be terrifying and which might actually be kind of cool. Then they pivot to another theme park hazard: clickbait Disney news sites, including Hersheypark's online clapback and the outlets fans trust most. HIGHLIGHTS A Galveston roller coaster evacuation sparks a bigger conversation about the scariest possible ride breakdowns. Eric shares what it was like being evacuated from Space Mountain with the lights on. Lauren and Eric debate whether attractions like the Skyliner, monorail, Incredicoaster, and Pixar Pal-A-Round are worse in theory than in practice. Disney ride evacuations can feel more like behind-the-scenes adventures than disasters, depending on the attraction. Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and Living with the Land all land on the “wouldn't mind getting stuck there” list. Hersheypark calls out a misleading theme park news post, kicking off a discussion about Disney clickbait. Clickbait headlines, ad-heavy sites, and vague rumors make theme park news harder to trust. Send us Fan MailVillains do not need to rebuild Disneyland to make it feel cursed. Give them control over the ride names, the background music, and the menu descriptions, and suddenly every “classic” turns into a warning label. We start with a toast straight out of Disney Cruise Line lore by recreating The Darling from DeVille's Piano Lounge on the Disney Destiny, then we use that same attention to theme and tone to let the bad guys run wild. From there, we draft the takeover rules and pick our battlegrounds: Disneyland and Disney's Animal Kingdom. You'll hear our ride overlay pitches that keep the mechanics intact while flipping the story, like Kilimanjaro Safaris as Scar's Wasteland, Expedition Everest pursued by the Druun, and Flight of Passage reframed as a full-on Battle For Pandora. On the Disneyland side, Space Mountain becomes Zerg's “Totally Safe” training simulator complete with relentless monologuing, Pirates turns into Captain Hook's “respectable” maritime career pitch, and It's a Small World gets a Dr. Facilier twist that asks one question on repeat: did you read the fine print? We also take swings at shows and walkthroughs, from Scar-centered theater to a Phantasmic narration track run by Hades, plus a Maleficent-inspired castle exhibit that rewrites the whole “who is the victim?” argument. And because Disney food culture is half the fun, we rename lounges and restaurants with villain energy, including a Nomad Lounge takeover with color-changing cocktails and a Cruella dining makeover that insists the steak is totally not what you think. If you love Disney villains, theme park storytelling, Disneyland details, Animal Kingdom atmosphere, and clever menu theming, hit subscribe, share the episode with a Disney friend, and leave a review. Journey back to Disneyland's early decades through postcards filled with personal memories, vintage stamps, and Main Street history. This episode begins with a 1959 ride aboard Casey Jr. Circus Train as a postcard sender describes warm California weather, busy travel plans, and a magical trip through Storybook Land. Along the way, we explore the life and work of Disney artist and Imagineer Bruce Bushman, whose designs helped shape Fantasyland classics including Casey Jr., the Mad Tea Party, Monstro the Whale, and the Peter Pan pirate ships. The second postcard transports us to 1969 with the Disneyland Band performing in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. That card leads into the story of Disney Legend Don Dagradi—artist, writer, and collaborator on attractions like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, as well as beloved Disney films including Lady and the Tramp and Mary Poppins. Together, Bushman and Dagradi share one of Disneyland's iconic Main Street windows above the Market House. Finally, an incoming postcard featuring Space Mountain at night brings the episode into the modern era with a humorous travel mishap, Disney mail memories, and a look at the USPS frozen treats scratch-and-sniff stamp. Today's episode is a little different. If you're a regular listener to the show, you know that usually we hear a story from a regular person about something they've experienced that was extremely unusual. We have over 250 episodes like that – plane crashes, mass shootings, animal attacks, and lots more. And it's not all trauma stories – we have some happy ones too. But sometimes we change it up, and I have a guest on who has a really unusual job. I've talked to Spence, who's a lighthouse keeper, and Dan, who prepares people for their first time going to prison, and Jen – who works as a professional bridesmaid. You can scroll through all the back episodes and find those and a few more. So today I'm speaking with Elaina. As a young person, she was hired to work at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World – as Mickey Mouse. You know, when you're at Disney World, and you're walking around trying to decide if you go ride the Space Mountain roller coaster, or take a break in the air conditioning and watch the Country Bear Musical Jamboree, and all of a sudden you see standing right in front of you is – Mickey Mouse. Waving, signing autographs, and just making people happy. Yeah, that's what Elaina did. She also played Minnie Mouse, and a few other characters sometimes. We talked about how she ended up getting that job, what it's like to wear the costume, what would get you fired, and the celebrities she crossed paths with. And of course, what everyone wants to know about – the infamous tunnels UNDER Disney World. You're gonna get all the behind-the-scenes stuff today. And why is this episode titled “Elaina was FRIENDS with Mickey”? She'll explain that too.
