Ten years of On Board Music—it speaks for itself. We've been collaborating with them almost since the beginning, watching them grow steadily while staying true to their values—thoughtful curation, long-term relationships, and a real commitment to the artists they work with. Reaching a decade in this industry without compromising is something worth celebrating. For their anniversary compilation, they brought together a group of artists who reflect that spirit. Among them is Jin Synth, whose track Self Navigation adds a spacious, introspective layer to the release. We first met Jin at Mostra Festival a few years ago and have been following her work since—whether through her releases, her live performances, or the way she approaches sound as something deeply hands-on. She also contributed a guest mix to our series, offering another glimpse into her precise, layered style. In this conversation with Theresa Bäumel, Jin shares more about her background in sound art, her process of building custom instruments, and how she stays grounded in a constantly shifting scene. How do we cherish the present while preparing for the inevitable? How do we navigate a grief that doesn't come with closure? These are some of the tough questions we're talking about today. Joining us is Dr. Theresa B. Skaar, or as many know her, Dr. T. With her PhD in social psychology, expertise in Mind-Body Medicine, and certification in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Dr. T is deeply committed to helping people, particularly caregivers, find peace and resilience in the most challenging moments of life.

The European outdoor festival season is slowly winding down, the light starts to get a little more golden, the air a little crispier and the idea of turning a little more inward doesn't feel too strange anymore. With summer almost over, still two events “jewels” remain for ambient and spiral electronic aficionados. Some will make the trek to the Labyrinth Festival far away in Japan, a festival that became an inspiration for so many others. Japan, though, will also be represented at Les Chaos Ambiants. It's an intimate event with a purposeful curation, nestled in a nature reserve in France. The Japanese artist Occa will play for the first time in France and bring his unique transcendental way of DJing to Burgundy. Occa has been organizing the ARCHIV events for over 10 years at Precious Hall in Sapporo, located in the far north. Having played for Nobu's Future Terror and the aforementioned Labyrinth Festival, he is a fixture in the Japanese scene and now gains international attention. For "Delayed with..." Occa shares a mix recorded at the atmospheric Moment Festival, and it's warping and rumbling, twisting, and circulating there as if forest and mountain spirits congregate to show you the way. Where to? You'll see. "The mix I provided for Delayed uses a recording from the Japanese outdoor Festival Moment 2024. Moment Festival is held in a sacred zone in Nara Prefecture, which has significant origins in Japanese history. Since my set was on the festival's first day, I structured the two-hour set as a ceremony to mark the beginning of the three-day program, aiming to guide listeners into a sacred zone." Azu Tiwaline is an artist creating new worlds for us all to hear and see each other within. Conjuring a sense of cosmic belonging within life's maelstrom, her music is an extension of her being transformed into abundant rhythmical energy - beloved for her wonderful ability to channel vast inner realms into the outward joys of dance & movement. With an extraordinary musical vision firmly rooted in the freeing kinetics of Soundsystem psychedelia, her vibrations bring vivid influence from the El Djerid desert & her Tunisian heritage into communication with the transcendent spatial awareness of dub and the grooving, dynamic exuberance of techno. Uniting these spellbinding elements into an alchemic synthesis, she conducts Saharan frequencies into eclectic, entrancing rhythms with a nimble & profound elegance - contrasting microcosms of light & darkness immersed in mercurial depths, ecstatic percussive intonations, & the breathtaking enchantment of bass weight pressure. Azu's mix is a transcendent journey that begins amidst the boundless expanse of space. From the outset, the mix propels you through undulating grooves, resembling cosmic waves that transport the listener through an intricate musical narrative. Azu skillfully guides the voyage, making stops at diverse realms that traverse infectious dub-driven breaks, hypnotic techno landscapes, and experimental ambient dimensions. With each twist and turn, the listener awaits the next stop in this extraordinary voyage, where musical boundaries are redefined. read the interview with Azu Tiwaline by Theresa Bäumel: https://www.itsdelayed.com/delayed-blog/artist-of-the-moment-azu-tiwaline-delayed-x-mostra https://soundcloud.com/azu-tiwaline https://www.instagram.com/azu.tiwaline/ www.mostra.barcelona/cat/ @human_club interview by: https://soundcloud.com/theresa-appletree Follow us on social media: @itsdelayed linktr.ee/delayed www.itsdelayed.com www.facebook.com/itsdelayed www.instagram.com/_____delayed www.youtube.com/@_____delayed

"Anam Cara" by Gilmer Galibard (GAL 002) is inspired by the Gaelic term "soul friend." The title track of this beautiful 3-track EP explores the complexities of friendships and marks the second release of the label named after the UK-based artist. It emphasizes mutual respect, effort, trust, honesty, and the necessary work to maintain healthy and nourishing relationships. "Anam Cara" is a contemplative downtempo piece that also incorporates elements of the deep, hypnotic techno that we adore so much. At its core is an intriguing modular exploration that gradually unfolds throughout its seven-minute duration. Various intimate murmurs and bubbling elements complement this exploration. The recurring percussive sounds create a sense of beating hearts and evoke the multidimensional emotions associated with friendships. Deep friendships are often characterized by unspoken understanding, connections formed through sharing experiences or thoughts. “Anam Cara” beautifully resembles that entanglement in sound. The things that connect the different layers are sometimes not obvious, spoken in a language without form, that cannot be named but are always with meaning. Much like soul friends themselves. “Anam Cara”(GIL002) is set for release on August 28. write up by Theresa Bäumel https://soundcloud.com/theresa-appletree https://soundcloud.com/gilmergalibard https://www.instagram.com/gilmergalibard/ www.itsdelayed.com www.instagram.com/_____delayed/ www.facebook.com/itsdelayed

Shownotes:Helena Ott, 40 Stunden? Today, it’s another edition of Midday on Higher Education, our occasional series of conversations with the leaders of Maryland’s colleges and universities.  Tom's guest is Dr. Theresa B. Felder, who began her tenure as president of Harford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland, just three weeks ago.  Like many other community colleges across the country, Harford has struggled in recent years with declining enrollment.  Overall, college enrollment is down about 2 and half percent, but community colleges have seen a 10% decline, nationwide, according to Inside Higher Ed.  Last Friday, the Board of Trustees of Harford Community College approved a preliminary budget that is $737,000 less than the budget for the current year.  Dr. Theresa Felder came to Maryland from Ohio, where she was in the senior leadership of Clark State Community College.  She is the first African American to serve as president of Harford Community College. She joins us today on Zoom.  As always, we welcome listener questions and comments. Call 410.662.8780, email us: midday@wypr.org, or Tweet us: @MiddayWYPR. ____________________________________________ COVID-19 Vaccine Update: The Maryland Health Department has announced that people 65 years old and older are now eligible to receive a COVID 19 vaccine.  This age cohort joins front line health care workers, teachers, people in group home settings, food and agricultural workers, postal employees, as well as restaurant, grocery and transit workers. But getting an appointment is difficult.  Here in Baltimore City, residents in this group may submit their contact information on the website of the Baltimore City Health Department.  The department says it will notify people of available appointments when they become available.  The web address is: http://www.coronavirus.baltimorecity.gov If you don’t have access to the internet, you may call 410-396-CARE (2273) See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

How to Interpret Your White Blood Cell Count

There’s a common misconception that you need to run expensive advanced biomedical tests to fix your health. Over the years we’ve found just the opposite, that you can learn much of what you need to know from basic blood chemistry. Perhaps the best example is the information gained from a Complete Blood Count (CBC) with Differential. As the most common blood test, it is widely used to assess general health status, screen for disorders, and to evaluate nutritional status. On this podcast, NBT Scientific Director Megan Hall and I are talking about leukocytes, also known as white blood cells (WBCs), as critical elements of the CBC blood test. Megan discusses the various types of leukocytes and what it means when your count is outside the reference range. We talk about what leukocytes tell you about your nutritional status, why some people “never get sick” as well as signs you’ve got chronic inflammation or physiological stress. Megan also discusses how to use this information to determine the next steps in your health journey. Here’s the outline of this interview with Megan Hall: [00:01:04] Forum post: Chronically Low White Blood Cell Count. Get access when you support us on Patreon. In the 'Verse, Firefly Song Crafting

The first 40 minutes of “Ariel” make this seem like the most generically, palatable episode of Firefly. It’s a fun but simple heist episode. Then comes the twist. The ending gives us a deeper look at what motivates and drives the characters of Malcolm Reynolds and Jayne. We talk about keelhauling a crew member and a touching way of asking for forgiveness after betraying the crew. Following an incident in which River attacks him, Jayne demands that she and Simon be left on Ariel. Mal quashes any talk of leaving people behind, but privately warns Simon that River has to be kept under control. Simon acknowledges that his sister is getting worse. Mikey - Simon approaches the crew with a job: he wants to get into the hospital in Ariel's capital city in order to scan River's brain with an advanced piece of medical equipment, and he needs the crew to get him inside. As payment, he will tell the crew how to steal valuable medical supplies undetected (they will be replaced automatically by hospital machines). Marc - Simon drugs himself and River so they appear dead, allowing the crew to enter Ariel city's hospital using a scrapped medical shuttle they refurbish and fake EMT IDs. The group then split up, with Jayne guarding Simon as he analyses River's condition while Mal and Zoe steal drugs from the hospital. However, Jayne betrays the Tams, placing a call to an Alliance officer who agrees to pay their bounty. Mikey - Once awakened, Simon dresses as a doctor and takes River to the diagnostic ward with Jayne. There, Simon discovers that River's brain has been surgically operated on many times, disabling her ability to suppress emotions. With the analysis complete, Jayne leads them to a rear entrance, where they are arrested by Federal marshals, Jayne included, the Alliance officer deciding to keep the reward money for himself. Meanwhile, Mal and Zoe return to the medical shuttle with the loot, but realize that Jayne and the Tams are late so head back into the hospital to find them. Marc - The three prisoners are moved to a holding area where Jayne and Simon overpower their escorts and escape. Shortly afterwards, two blue-gloved men arrive to take custody of the Tams, using a mysterious sonic device to kill all the marshals when the pair learn that some of them talked to the Tams. Meanwhile, a terrified River leads Jayne and Simon to a locked door, which is opened from the other side by Mal and Zoe, enabling the group to escape. Mikey - Inara returns to Serenity just as the medical shuttle arrives. Once everyone else has left the cargo area, Mal knocks Jayne out. Jayne awakens to find himself in an open airlock as the ship begins to leave the atmosphere. Jayne eventually confesses that he betrayed Simon and River, but denies double crossing Mal. Mal tells him that what he did was the same as betraying him. As Mal turns to leave, Jayne asks him not to tell his shipmates about the betrayal. Mal closes the outer door, sparing Jayne's life.
