Tom welcomes back Steve Hanke Professor of Applied Economics - Johns Hopkins University. In this discussion, Professor Steve Hanke emphasizes the potential benefits of dollarization for Argentina's economy. He references the country's history of economic instability, multiple currency and banking crises, and high inflation rates. Hanke suggests that dollarization, similar to the strategies implemented in Ecuador and El Salvador, could lead to a significant reduction in inflation and increase access to long-term credit. He also highlights the success of dollarization in countries like Panama and Hong Kong. Hanke argues that dollarization would align Argentina more closely with the United States, making its currency more secure and convertible. He points out that the stability brought by dollarization would create greater opportunities for the demand of Argentinian goods, particularly in the agricultural sector. He also states that dollarization simplifies borrowing and stabilizes foreign exchange, which benefits the circulation of the US dollar. However, Hanke acknowledges that a reserve would be needed for small change and suggests that it should be backed at a one-to-one rate with US dollars. He dismisses the idea of using gold or Bitcoin as unnecessary especially with a population already highly reliant on U.S. Dollar Notes. Hanke also addresses the political challenges of dollarization, mentioning that the concept may face opposition from the political class who would lose the ability to borrow money from a central bank. Additionally, he highlights the disproportionate impact of the inflation tax on lower-income individuals, underscoring the importance of maintaining a strong budget. Overall, Hanke asserts that dollarization can bring stability, reduce inflation, and create economic opportunities for Argentina. He believes that adopting the US dollar would help mitigate the country's past economic challenges and align it more closely with economically successful nations. Steve Hankey suggested dollarization as a viable solution which would likely cause inflation to plummet and long-term credit to become accessible. A dollarized system would create a 'confidence shock' and benefit those on lower incomes by reducing the impact of the inflation tax. Matt is originally from the Rocky Mountains in Idaho and moved to Miami after founding Daycation and leaving school at Brown Unive. The goal was to get closer to the hotels Daycation was partnering with to begin building the company. Matt worked in hotels growing up in Idaho and always had a passion for architecture and hospitality. Matt left school after his first year at Brown where he took courses in economics, urban studies, math, business and philosophy. I loved chatting with Matt and hearing his story. From the early days of building a startup, to dropping out of college, to hitting rock bottom (literally sleeping on rocks!)...it's a familiar and inspiring story for many of us. I especially loved talking with Matt about acting from first principles...this is a habit you need to get into! Some lessons: Don't give up even when the going gets really painful. I think perseverance is often overlooked as a key trait to success in entrepreneurship, lots of people quit too early. Enjoy the ride. Finding a mix or "balance" is important to keeping mentally and physically healthy, and also helps when keeping track of timeline. Go for it. Overthinking will lead to inaction. Surround yourself with people who have the "skills" or traits you'd like to emphasize in yourself. Hint: You will be spending a lot of time with your Co-Founders. Get to ramen profitable asap to have more peace of mind which will help in avoiding a scramble for investor dollars. Resources Daycation Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill THANK YOU! Do you have to be a certain age to solve a problem in your community? Does it take a specific level of experience to see someone in need and offer to help? In this powerful episode of Add Passion and Stir, hear from two young people from the next generation of leaders. Millennial chef Bobby Pradachith (Thip Khao) and recent college graduate and anti-hunger advocate Alana Davidson (University of New Hampshire) join Share Our Strength founders Billy and Debbie Shore to share how they are already making big impacts in their communities. When Alana discovered that a quarter of her college classmates struggled with hunger, she sprang into action by contacting the governor and the dean of students. “I couldn’t sit on the number,” she says. “I had to do something about it.” Her efforts resulted in Swipe It Forward, a stigma-free meal donation program for any student experiencing food insecurity. Chef Bobby leads his unique Lao restaurant – the only one in DC - with bold and authentic menu options that both intrigue American diners and minimize food waste. “We don’t hold back,” he promises. Despite their accomplishments, both millennial superstars remain driven to increase their impact going forward. Chef Bobby is inspired by his family’s culture and work ethic, and plans to increase his involvement with helping those less fortunate both here and in Laos. The secret to his continued success will be persistence. “If you have goals, you have to work hard at them,” he says. Alana is looking forward to graduate school at Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, and a future working on federal food policy. “Nutrition is never one of the national priorities,” she laments. “Food is used as a tool to keep people in poverty… How can we have a conversation around nutrition that isn’t polarized or too political because we all have to eat.” Host Billy Shore agrees. He describes the military concept of a ‘show of force,’ but posits, “What if our show of force was: We’re going to have the strongest generation in history because we’re going to feed them and educate them… We’re going to invest in kids and health and nutrition and access to food for everyone. Now that’s a pretty different way than most people think of a show of force, but I think there’s an opportunity there to wake people up. These issues really do affect our nation’s strength.” Listen and be inspired by these two young visionaries who are changing the world.

AFTERBUZZ TV – Tough Enough edition, is a weekly “after show” for fans of USA’s Tough Enough. In this show, host Christian Rosenberg Interviews Daria Berenato. Dr. J's guest co-host Spider Graham invited Kevin M. Ryan to join in discussing the book they wrote together, Taking Down Goliath: The Digital Marketing Strategy for Beating Competitors with 100 Time Your Spending Power. Listening to this show is a great way to get to know the authors of this book, which begins with some goal clarification work to lay the basis for developing strategy and learning the tactics of using particular digital tools. Kevin explains his desire to write a cross-disciplinary, holistic guide for small businesses in contrast to the many narrowly focused marketing books that were readily available. By emphasizing overall strategy and providing many examples, the book makes it possible to see where the various digital channels can play a role in marketing within a limited budget. Because of the Internet, anyone can now engage with potential customers, finding out what their needs and interests are. It is no longer necessary to have deep pockets to film an infomercial—YouTube is available. You can invite viewers to let you know by posting comments what they think of your message. Because of search engines and alerts, you can find almost anyone commenting about your product or service and respond to comments, whether they be positive or critical. Personal interaction takes time but is an excellent way of fostering “organic growth.” While Goliath-like companies can spend fortunes reaching wide, general audiences, the Davids use shrewd reasoning to identify a small target and deliver precisely aimed, individually tailored messages. And that is where digital marketing excels. Kevin Ryan founded the strategic consulting firm Motivity Marketing in April, 2007. Kevin is known throughout the world as an interactive marketing thought leader, particularly in the search marketing arena. Today's Motivity is a group of professionals focused on thought leadership, innovation and exacting tactical execution in a modern digital advertising agency environment. Over decades in the business, he formerly has served as global content director for Search Engine Watch and Search Engine Strategies, VP, Interactive Media for the Interpublic Group agency. Wahlstrom Interactive, and CEO of Kinetic Results, an Advertising Age Top 20 search engine marketing firm. Directly feeding our marketplace intelligence, Kevin has published hundreds of articles on search and interactive marketing in industry publications such as Advertising Age, iMedia, MediaPost, ClickZ and Search Engine Watch. His insights are universally acknowledged as best in class by marketers everywhere. His former client roster and personal case history includes market-leading brands Rolex Watch, USA; State Farm Insurance; Farmers Insurance; Minolta Corporation; Samsung Electronics America; Toyota Motor Sales, USA; Panasonic Services; and the Hilton Hotels brands.Widely quoted and recognized as an industry expert, Kevin has appeared often in our most trusted news outlets: ABC, CNN, The Associated Press, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, New York Times and numerous others.
