This is a spoken guided meditation (no music) that commences with an open awareness and listening - accepting and allowing things to 'be' - to come and to go. It then progresses to an investigation of the thinking process to see and understand its empty, substanceless nature. This insight brings freedom, relaxation and inner peace.
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” - 2 Timothy 1:7When it comes to investing, wisdom means keeping emotions in check. Fear, greed, overconfidence, and regret can all derail sound decisions. Dr. Art Rainer joins us today to share four ways emotions ruin smart investing—and how you can avoid those traps.Dr. Art Rainer is the founder of the Institute for Christian Financial Health and Christian Money Solutions. He is a regular contributor here at Faith & Finance and the author of Money in the Light of Eternity: What the Bible Says about Your Financial Purpose.Don't Let Emotions Derail Your InvestmentsWhen it comes to investing, emotions can be your worst enemy. Allowing emotions to guide your investment decisions will most likely lead you to buy high and sell low. That's the opposite of building a solid retirement fund.So how can investors avoid the emotional traps that derail wise investing? Here are four common ways emotions can ruin sound investment strategies.1. Focusing on the Present Instead of the FutureThe stock market fluctuates daily, sometimes even hourly. Many investors get caught in the drama of short-term swings. But we must remind ourselves that we're not investing for today, we're investing for the future.Keeping your eyes fixed on long-term goals helps put temporary volatility in perspective. The market may dip, but over time, patience and consistency are what build wealth.2. Letting Fear Take ControlFear often shows up during a market downturn. In 2008, as markets plummeted, many investors panicked and withdrew their money. Later, most admitted that the decision was a mistake. In fact, steady contributions during down markets actually allow for the purchase of more shares at lower prices—a benefit to long-term investors. This is a process called “dollar-cost averaging”. Dollar-cost averaging is an investing strategy where you contribute a fixed amount of money at regular intervals, regardless of market conditions. Over time, this helps reduce the impact of market volatility by buying more shares when prices are low and fewer when prices are high.Fear may feel protective, but it usually leads to missed opportunities.3. Becoming Overconfident in a Rising MarketJust as fear hurts during downturns, overconfidence can be just as dangerous when markets rise. We saw this during the dot-com bubble in 2000 and again in 2020.As stock prices climb, inexperienced investors often rush in, assuming the market is “easy money.” They may chase riskier investments without understanding the dangers, setting themselves up for painful losses when the bubble bursts.4. Dwelling on RegretRegret over past decisions is natural, but it can tempt us to overcorrect. For example, selling too soon because of a bad memory from the last downturn—or holding too long trying to “make up” for past mistakes.Instead of being trapped by regret, let past experiences guide wiser choices without driving reactionary ones. The Bible tells us that saving is wise, but it also cautions against letting fear or greed rule our hearts. Wise investing requires patience, discipline, and trust in God's provision—not reactionary emotions.Get Help From a Certified Christian Financial CounselorFor those struggling with debt, budgeting, or saving for the future, Dr. Rainer recommends connecting with a Certified Christian Financial Counselor (CertCFC). These professionals are trained to help individuals and couples align their finances with biblical principles. You can search for a counselor in your area at ChristianFinancialHealth.com.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I'm trying to help someone who has three credit card debts that have gone to collections. What type of documentation should we request to confirm that the debt collector is legally entitled to collect the debt, especially since different agencies continue to contact us?I'm retired and have recently purchased a property with mold in the crawl space, which is impacting my health. Given my financial situation, would it be wise to borrow money to resolve the mold problem? My husband is about to turn 73, and we've placed all of our IRA funds into an annuity. How do we calculate the required minimum distribution once he reaches 73, and does that amount change each year? We'd like to withdraw only the minimum necessary.Resources Mentioned:Faithful Steward: FaithFi's New Quarterly Magazine (Become a FaithFi Partner)The Institute for Christian Financial HealthChristian Money SolutionsWisdom Over Wealth: 12 Lessons from Ecclesiastes on MoneyLook At The Sparrows: A 21-Day Devotional on Financial Fear and AnxietyRich Toward God: A Study on the Parable of the Rich FoolFind a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA) or Certified Christian Financial Counselor (CertCFC)FaithFi App Remember, you can call in to ask your questions most days at (800) 525-7000. In this episode of Wise_N_Nerdy, Charles and Joe are joined by the amazing Audie Norman for a fun and insightful ride through fandom, fatherhood, and a few unexpected laughs. The show kicks off with the Question of the Week: If you could learn any one spell or power from a fantasy world, what would it be? From the practical magic of prestidigitation and the versatility of wild shape in Dungeons & Dragons, to the Great Sage ability from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, the hosts dream big. Teleportation powers also come up—whether it's the flashy leaps from Jumper or Apparition from Harry Potter. Before rolling the dice, Charles unveils the show's new logo, a design created by Audie himself. The random dice roll kicks things off with Bad Dad Jokes, this time themed around polar bears—with Charles giving a shoutout to Nathan Fillion for his own stream of dad jokes online.Next up is the "How Do I…?" segment where Charles, Joe, and Audie talk through the creative process behind designing the new Wise_N_Nerdy logo. From concept to final touches, they share the story of what makes the design special for the show and its community. The dice then land on "What Are You Nerding Out About?", where Joe brings back a fan-favorite guessing game: figuring out the plot of an anime just from its title. This week's challenge? Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra: World Conquest Starts with the Civilization of Ruin. Meanwhile, Audie nerds out about Aaron Sorkin, diving into classics like The West Wing and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Charles wraps up the segment with some personal excitement, celebrating his birthday with gifts like an electric drum kit and Borderlands 4.In "Daddy, Tell Me a Story," Audie shares his journey into podcasting—how he started listening, what inspired him, and what eventually pushed him to create his own show. Finally, the dice close out the night with the "Parliament of Papas", where Joe tells a heartfelt and complicated story about his mother's wedding ring. Passed down through siblings, the ring sparked both love and family division when one sister asked for it back after a difficult engagement fell apart. This episode blends laughs, stories, and deep dives into the worlds of fandom and family—proving once again why listeners love to Find your FAMdom with Wise_N_Nerdy.

Financial blunders aren't new. Consider this: the web portal Excite once passed on buying Google for just $750,000. Today, Google's parent company is worth over $2 trillion. That, my friends, is a legendary missed opportunity. Most of us won't miss out on trillions, but we've all made financial mistakes. The good news is that God's Word offers wisdom for recovery and direction when we stumble.Learning from FailureScripture reminds us that falling isn't the end for those who walk with God:“For the righteous falls seven times and rises again” (Proverbs 24:16).“For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you” (Psalm 86:5).“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God … and it will be given him” (James 1:5).Failure can be a stepping stone when we let God guide us forward. With that encouragement, here are 10 financial mistakes to avoid—and biblical wisdom to help you course-correct.1. Borrowing from Your 401(k)It feels like “borrowing from yourself,” but it often masks overspending or debt. While repaying, you may miss out on employer matches and the compounding growth that comes with them. Worse, leaving your job could trigger taxes and penalties.2. Claiming Social Security Too EarlyStarting at 62, benefits are reduced by up to 30%—for life. If possible, wait until full retirement age (or beyond) for a larger monthly check that lasts as long as you do.3. Only Paying the Minimum on Credit CardsA $5,000 balance at 20% interest can take nearly a decade to pay off with minimum payments, costing more than $8,000 in interest. Pay extra and utilize debt payoff strategies, such as the snowball or avalanche method.4. Delaying Retirement SavingsCompound interest rewards the early saver. Even small contributions in your 20s can grow into a significant nest egg. Don't panic if you're starting late—just start now.5. Overextending Yourself for Your KidsHelping with college, weddings, or down payments shouldn't jeopardize your own financial stability. Generosity is good, but if you sacrifice retirement now, you may depend on your kids later.6. Going It Alone Without Wise CounselMany sell low during downturns because they lack guidance. Proverbs 15:22 says, “Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.” Seek out wise, faith-based financial advice.7. Co-Signing a LoanScripture warns: “One who lacks sense gives a pledge and puts up security in the presence of his neighbor” (Proverbs 17:18). About 40% of co-signers end up paying the loan themselves. Be wise in your generosity.8. Quitting School Too SoonEducation—whether a four-year degree, trade school, or certification—equips you with marketable skills. Think of it as an investment in your future, not just a cost.9. Buying a TimeshareTimeshares are marketed as affordable luxury, but often come with steep fees, little flexibility, and low resale value. They're rarely the “investment” they claim to be.10. Falling for ScamsScammers prey on fear, urgency, and greed. Whether through fake calls, emails, or investment pitches, their goal is always the same—to separate you from your money. Be vigilant and discerning.Walking Forward in FreedomJesus warned His disciples: “I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves” (Matthew 10:16).Wise stewardship isn't about never failing—it's about learning, leaning on God's wisdom, and moving forward faithfully. With His help, you can recover from mistakes and grow into a more faithful steward of His resources.———————————————————————————————————————At FaithFi, we believe money is a tool to advance God's Kingdom. Is that wise? And can I withdraw some cash during the transfer without incurring a penalty?I purchased a house in 2019 and now require a loan of $20,000–$30,000 to address basement flooding. What's the best loan option?I'm almost 80 and want to close several credit card accounts. How much would that hurt my credit score?I hold CDs jointly with my sister, but we're worried she could be liable if I get sued. Should I change the ownership before they mature?I'm considering joining Christian Community Credit Union, but I noticed that it isn't FDIC insured. Should that be a concern?Resources Mentioned:Faithful Steward: FaithFi's New Quarterly Magazine (Become a FaithFi Partner)Christian Community Credit Union (CCCU)Wisdom Over Wealth: 12 Lessons from Ecclesiastes on MoneyLook At The Sparrows: A 21-Day Devotional on Financial Fear and AnxietyRich Toward God: A Study on the Parable of the Rich FoolFind a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA) or Certified Christian Financial Counselor (CertCFC)FaithFi App Remember, you can call in to ask your questions most days at (800) 525-7000. 10 KEY MEDICARE CHANGES TO KNOW IN 2026 FROM BALTIMORE WASHINGTON FINANCIAL ADVISORS with Thad Ismart | CFP®, ChFEBC, CEPS Senior Financial Planner Medicare is changing in 2026, and the updates will impact premiums, drug costs, and benefits. In this episode, BWFA's Thad Ismart, CFP®, ChFEBC, CEPS, breaks down the 10 most important changes retirees and families need to know to stay prepared. Full Description Medicare plays a central role in retirement planning, but the program is constantly evolving. Beginning in 2026, significant changes are scheduled that will affect millions of Americans. Some updates may help retirees save money, while others could increase costs or reduce benefits. In this episode of Healthy, Wealthy & Wise, BWFA's Thad Ismart, CFP®, ChFEBC, CEPS, Senior Financial Planner, explains the 10 biggest Medicare changes coming in 2026 and what they mean for you. Among the most notable: Part B premiums are projected to increase by more than 11%, making healthcare more expensive for many retirees. On the other hand, prescription drug costs are expected to drop as new pricing rules take effect, and out-of-pocket caps will help limit spending. Thad also highlights program adjustments that may surprise beneficiaries. Medicare Advantage plans could scale back supplemental benefits, while Original Medicare is introducing new pre-authorization requirements in pilot states. These changes underscore the need for proactive planning to ensure coverage continues to align with your healthcare and financial goals. Listeners will gain practical strategies to navigate these shifts. Thad explains how to budget for rising premiums, how to take advantage of reduced drug prices, and why reviewing coverage annually is more important than ever. By understanding these changes in advance, retirees can avoid unpleasant surprises and adapt their plans to maintain stability. At BWFA, we integrate healthcare costs into every financial plan, helping clients prepare for Medicare updates and the long-term expenses of retirement. This episode offers clear guidance on what's ahead in 2026 and how to protect your financial future. For more resources, visit BWFA's Financial Planning Services.

On October 1, 911, during the reign of Emperor Leo the Wise, an all-night vigil was being held at the Blachernae Church of the Mother of God in Constantinople, with many of the faithful crowding the church. St Andrew the Fool for Christ (commemorated tomorrow, October 2) was standing at the back of the church with his disciple Epiphanius. At around four in the morning, the most holy Theotokos appeared above the people, clothed in resplendent garments, surrounded by indescribable radiance, and holding a veil in her outstretched hands, as though to protect all the people. St Andrew said to Epiphanius 'Do you see how the Queen and Lady of all is praying for the whole world?' Epiphanius replied 'Yes, Father, I see it and stand in dread.' This wonderful event is recorded in Epiphanius' life of St Andrew. Because of it, the Church keeps an annual feast on this date. Note: This feast is particularly well-loved in the Slavic churches. In 1960, the Greek church transferred its observance to October 28, in memory of the Mother of God's protection of the Greek forces holding the Albanian front against Italy in 1940. This talk explores the second step of the Eightfold Path, Wise Intention—the heart's compass that points us toward freedom. Rooted in the Buddha's teachings, Wise Intention asks us to orient our lives around letting go of what doesn't serve, cultivating goodwill instead of ill will, and living with compassion that seeks to do no harm. Through stories, reflections, and practical examples, we'll look at how our inner intentions quietly but powerfully shape our choices, our relationships, and ultimately, our destiny. You'll learn how to recognize the subtle intentions behind your daily actions, how to release clinging and cultivate generosity of spirit, and how to bring kindness and compassion into even the smallest moments of your life. With teachings drawn from Theravāda practice and contemporary experience, this talk offers both inspiration and practical tools for setting intentions that align with your deepest values and bring more freedom into your day-to-day life.

Our study opens with a look at Civil War between Rehoboam and Judah vs. Jeroboam and Israel (931-910 BC). 1 Kings 12:1 We read that Rehoboam went to Shechem, “for all Israel had gone there to make him king.” Shechem was an historic site for the nation from about 500 years early when Levitical priests recited the blessings and the curses from Mount Ebal and Mount Gerizim. Shechem is the city near these two mountains. In verses 3 and 4 we read that Jeroboam challenges Rehoboam. Reheboam goes to 2 advisory boards. One was the elders that had served under his father, Solomon. They gave him wise direction. 1 Kings 12:7 - they said that if you serve the people and give them a favorable answer, they will always be your servants. (Wise advise - to be a servant leader. It is also a prophetic view of who Jesus would be - Jesus is our Servant King - our suffering servant) The second group of advisors was Rehoboam's young friends. 1 Kings 12:13-14 says they tell him to be tougher with the people. Reheboam decided to take the advise of his young friends, but when he tells the people he will be even tougher on them than his father was, the result is that the Israelites - the entire northern part of the kingdom rebels against Reheboam and he had to escape to Jerusalem. Will there be civil war or will there be an uneasy peace? We read in 1 Kings 12:21 that when Rehoboam arrives in Jerusalem, he gathers Judah together and the tribe of Benjamin to go to war against Jeroboam and the rest of Israel so that he can regain the entire kingdom of his father Solomon. But then God intercedes giving a word to Shemaiah a man of God: 1 Kings 12:23-24 “Say to Rehoboam son of Solomon king of Judah, to all Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people, ‘This is what the Lord says: Do not go up to fight against your brothers, the Israelites. Go home, every one of you, for this is my doing.'” So they obeyed the word of the Lord and went home again, as the Lord had ordered.” Reheboam listens to the words from the prophet Shemaiah and there is an uneasy peace established between the splintered nation. However, we read in verses 26-27 that Jeroboam's response to the peace was fear that his people - the northern part of the kingdom - would again give their allegiance to Reheboam King of Judah, Solomon's son. So Jeroboam has two golden calves made - one is put in the northern part of his kingdom and the other calf is placed in the southern part of Israel and he tells the people that it's too much to go up to Jerusalem to worship, so here instead are your gods. And the people did worship these golden calves and it says in 1 Kings 12:29-30 that it became a sin. And the nation begins to turn away from God. Jeroboam led them astray and did not do as God had requested of him when he was given the prophetic word of his kingship over Israel. Pastor shares the archeological discovery of the Altar of Dan where one of the golden calves had been set up. A sad testimony to how the nation was led astray and away from God. Text reading taken from:Treasures from Juniper Ridge (Padmasambhava's Advice #3) by Padmasambhava by Tulku Urgyen, Erik Pema Kunsang (Translator) , Marcia Binder Schmidt (Translator).Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche (Precious Guru), was an Indian Vajrayana Buddhist master from the 8th century who introduced Tantric Buddhism to Tibet. He is considered the founder of the Nyingma school, the oldest tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, and is revered as the "Second Buddha" by his followers. He is believed to have come to Tibet at the invitation of King Trisong Detsen to help establish the first Tibetan Buddhist monastery, Samye Monastery.
In today's Morning Manna, we reflect on Proverbs 13:1–5, where Solomon contrasts the wisdom of a son who listens to instruction with the folly of the scorner who rejects correction. We see how words bring either blessing or ruin, how guarding the tongue protects life, and how diligence brings abundance while laziness leaves only empty desire. Solomon also reminds us that the righteous hate lies, while the wicked live in shame and corruption. These verses teach us that humility, discipline, careful speech, hard work, and truth are the hallmarks of a life pleasing to God.Teachers: Rick Wiles and Doc BurkhartYou can partner with us by visiting FaithandValues.com, calling 1-800-576-2116, or by mail at PO Box 399 Vero Beach, FL 32961.MEGA FIRE reveals the ancient recurring cycles of war and economic collapse that have shaped history for 600 years. After a shooter targeted a North Texas ICE facility last week, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott vowed that the incident would “NOT slow our arrest, detention and deportation of illegal immigrants.” Already, Texas leads the country in the number of immigration detentions, according to reporting by Axios, though it's unclear where exactly in the state those are taking place. Here in Austin, where immigrants represent about 15% of the population, life under President Donald Trump's immigration policies looks very different than it did last year. Law enforcement presence has ramped up in certain parts of town, and soon, the Travis County Sheriff's Office will have to participate in immigration enforcement, too, a change from the past. And appointments in San Antonio that used to be low-risk are now terrifying experiences, as arrests at check-ins have been more common. To break it all down, executive producer Eva Ruth Moravec is joined by Emiliano Tahui Gómez, Latino communities reporter for the Austin American-Statesman. Want some more Austin news?
