The Business Growth Show

Building a successful health and wellness franchise requires more than passion for personal well-being—it demands vision, systems, leadership, and the ability to scale while staying true to core values. Few people embody that balance better than Kyle Jones, CEO and Co-Founder of iCryo. Kyle Jones founded iCryo with a mission to elevate lifestyles through professional, affordable, and accessible personal health services. What began with a focus on cryotherapy has rapidly evolved into one of the world's largest and most recognizable names in the health and wellness franchise space. With over 200 locations open and ambitious plans to surpass a thousand units globally, iCryo's growth reflects the strength of a brand built on innovation, intentionality, and operational excellence. Jones' transition from collegiate athlete to CEO was fueled by a broader passion for total wellness. Initially pursuing a career in sports and exercise science, he quickly realized that recovery, mental wellness, and proactive health measures offered a much greater impact beyond athletics. That vision became the foundation for iCryo's expansive portfolio of services, offering everything from cryotherapy and compression therapy to IV infusions, regenerative medicine, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The rapid expansion of iCryo stands out in a competitive market increasingly saturated with wellness concepts. Rather than chasing trends, Jones and his team have remained agile and responsive, intentionally introducing new services based on three critical factors: scientific efficacy, market affordability, and public awareness. This forward-thinking strategy has enabled iCryo to stay ahead of industry shifts while maintaining high operational standards across its franchise system. Building a thriving health and wellness franchise at scale also meant mastering compliance and regulatory challenges. As the company expanded into medical services, Jones emphasized the importance of operating with full medical compliance, working closely with advisory boards and legal teams to ensure alignment with state-by-state healthcare regulations. The result is a franchise model that operates as both a welcoming, retail-friendly environment and a fully compliant medical facility. Culture has played a crucial role in iCryo's success. From day one, Jones has insisted on a “people first” philosophy, ensuring that team members, franchisees, and guests feel connected to a larger mission. Franchisees are not just business owners; they are partners who share a passion for wellness and a commitment to living out the brand's core values. This intentional focus on culture helps create consistency across hundreds of locations, allowing iCryo to scale without losing the personal touch that defines the brand. Scaling a health and wellness franchise at this level requires a new type of franchisee—one willing to invest, operate professionally, and engage actively with the brand's mission. iCryo's operators are all multi-unit owners, a reflection of the company's shift from a boutique wellness service to a professional, medically-integrated wellness destination. Kyle Jones emphasizes that success in franchising is not about simply signing agreements; it's about building relationships, aligning on vision, and growing with the brand over time. The commitment to continuous improvement is evident in how iCryo trains and supports its network. From weekly system-wide calls that foster real-time alignment to the establishment of franchise advisory committees that ensure feedback loops between the field and corporate leadership, iCryo has built infrastructure for sustainable growth. Operational manuals, brand standards, and educational platforms like iCryo University are designed to keep franchisees at the forefront of innovation while maintaining operational excellence. Community engagement remains a cornerstone of iCryo's strategy. Despite the global reach of the brand, every iCryo location is positioned as a local business, deeply connected to the neighborhoods they serve. Jones encourages franchisees to actively network within their communities, building authentic relationships with local groups, fitness clubs, schools, and business organizations to amplify their impact and brand loyalty. Kyle Jones' approach to building a health and wellness franchise highlights the critical blend of mission-driven leadership, strategic innovation, and operational discipline. His emphasis on culture, compliance, customer experience, and continuous evolution offers a blueprint for any entrepreneur or business leader looking to create lasting impact in a competitive market. — Carl Rogers, psychologist wrote in 1959 his view on human nature, that when people are placed in meaningful therapeutic conditions, they will naturally change in a positive direction. Carl Rogers and William Miller (psychologist) have separately shared that this tendency toward reaching your true inner self “it is as natural as a plant's growth upward toward the light when given adequate soil, water, and sunshine. It is as if each person has a natural mature end-state or purpose (Telos, in Greek) toward which he or she will grow given optimal conditions.” They say that the Telos of an acorn is to become an oak tree; to reach its true purpose. Each action we take as humans is directed towards some Telos (i.e. purpose) and real change involves identifying concrete steps needed to attain Telos. Telos has many terms that describes it in philosophy; goal, completion, or fulfillment; this translates into all walks of life. Valeria interviews Marissa Harris — She is a compassionate therapist dedicated to guiding individuals on a transformative journey toward holistic well-being through sensorimotor psychotherapy.  She is a licensed independent clinical social worker, national board certified clinical social work diplomate, certified substance abuse provider, and certified in mindfulness-based relapse prevention, and a mindfulness-based relapse prevention group facilitator. She has specialized training in trauma informed approaches in Level 2 Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Trauma Informed Stabilization Treatment, EMDR, Motivational Interviewing, and Internal Family Systems approaches. She is also trained in the Institute of Functional Medicine where she explores ways to highlight the intricate link between our emotional experiences and bodily responses. She is currently the owner of Telos Health and Wellness Services, a private practice where she offers individual therapy as well as consultation. Throughout her 25 years in the field, she has served as a steadfast advocate and mentor, guiding and empowering a team of dedicated trauma, medical, and forensic professionals. She shares the honor and privilege of supporting individuals navigating life circumstances that have led to symptoms consistent with PTSD or dissociative disorders. Her focus remains centered on the person and understanding the unique challenges someone could face as a result of their experiences or environment. Exploring a holistic approach, she believes in the power of the body to hold and release emotional pain, trauma, and stress. Through gentle exploration and mindfulness, she helps people reconnect with the innate wisdom of their body at a pace that works for the person she is supporting. They say many therapists get into this work for deeply personal reasons, but not many have held so many roles the way today's guest, Denise Ranaghan, has. Denise gets real about what it was like being forcibly locked up in a psychiatric institute while in the military, working her way through school to become a therapist, directing community mental health services while being open about her mental health ‘status' as a peer professional, and then having the courage to leave the system and go off on her own as an activist and therapist in private practice. Denise talks about the double edged sword of relying on oppressive authoritative systems while internalizing self-blame, and the courage it takes to bring a critical consciousness into your work. In this episode we discuss: growing up a ‘troubled teen' forced involuntary psychiatric institutionalization authoritative abuse and internalizing self-blame identifying and de-identifying with the ‘patient' label swallowing vs acting out anger moral injury as a provider in the system being ‘out' as a peer working in clinical settings self doubt, endurism and developing better boundaries as a therapist being a apart of a community and making local changes knowing your privilege intergenerational collaboration and undoing agism Bio Denise Ranaghan shares a powerful personal story of recovery that has driven her 20-year record of service in the mental health field. She has held multiple positions including Residential Manager, Peer Specialist, Director of Wellness Services, Director of Assertive Community Treatment, and Director of Peer Services. In all of her positions she strove to include the peer perspective and vehemently called out oppressive practices, and eventually came to terms with how she was contributing to them. She was one of the first in several agencies who publicly identified as a Peer while in professional roles. She introduced and supported alternative peer run self help groups that challenged the “clinician knows best” belief. Denise has presented on Peer Support, Trauma-Informed Care, Voice hearing, Cultural Diversity, Suicide and The Human Canine connection. She is the author of multiple essays on recovery as well as the book Institutional Eyes which profiles her experience in the military where she was first psychiatrically hospitalized. Presently she has a private practice in Woodstock, NY, she serves on the Ulster County Community Services Board, the Mental health subcommittee and is a member a local Social Justice Committee. In today's episode, we discuss common pelvic floor issues and symptoms such as urinary leakage, tailbone pain, frequent restroom breaks, pain during intercourse, constipation, and how to treat them correctly. Dr. Bailey is a physical therapist and functional medicine practitioner specializing in pelvic floor physical therapy. She earned a B.Sc. in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Washington University at St. Louis School of Medicine. Dr. Bailey has been practicing for twelve years and is the owner of 360 Health & Wellness Services, a clinic that believes health is full-circle. If you want to discover more about pelvic floor dysfunction, check the key takeaways of this episode or the transcript below. Key Takeaways: 1. What is the Pelvic Floor? The pelvis is an area of our body located between the trunk and the legs, while the pelvic cavity runs from the pubic bone to the tailbone. Inside the pelvic cavity, we have different organs, nerves, arteries, and muscles. The bottom part of the pelvic cavity is considered the pelvic floor, which is a layer of muscles that help support these internal structures. The pelvic floor has three main functions: to help support internal organs, to help maintain continence, and to aid in sexual pleasure. 2. What Are Some Pelvic Floor Health Symptoms? Some of the most common pelvic floor symptoms include urine leakage, frequent restroom breaks, pain during sex, tailbone pain, constipation, and diarrhea. 3. Does Kegel Help With Pelvic Floor Health? Kegal is basically a contraction of your pelvic floor muscles that helps strengthen them. However, people need to learn to do them effectively. Some people may have an overactive pelvic floor, which can actually result in kegel worsening the issue. The goals of the campaign are to deliver the following messages of wellness: • To raise awareness about how being mentally well impacts not only one part of who we are; • To encourage community members to become mentally well; • To foster connection and resilience in our communities by emphasizing wellness. Today's conversation featured Tracy Mitchell, Director of Wellness Services for Valley Health to talk about this month's topic: occupational wellness. Some studies show that the average officer experiences more traumatic events in 6 months than the average person does in a lifetime. Fortunately, over the past few years, the profession has made great strides in emphasizing the importance of officer wellness and mental health. On this episode of the Blue View, National FOP President Patrick Yoes sits down with Sherri Martin, National Director of Wellness Services here at the FOP. This week on the Quadcast, two members of MCI's Board of Directors, Andrew Shepardson and Zoe Ragouzeos, join Executive Director Marjorie Malpiede to share their takeaways on college student mental health and wellbeing from the last year. Andrew is Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Bentley University, and Zoe is Executive Director of Counseling and Wellness Services at New York University. Together, these experts discuss their observations on how the pandemic has left students socially and emotionally stunted, with new situational anxiety or exacerbated clinical issues. Young people are struggling to engage not only socially with peers but in the physical classroom, which has become unfamiliar territory for many. The way forward, they say, demands campus-wide efforts—from students, faculty and staff—to provide support and prioritize wellness.
