The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals has halted the imminent closure of the infamous "Alligator Alcatraz” detention camp in Florida; now, the future of the facility, and the people incarcerated within it, remains in limbo. “But no matter the future of Alligator Alcatraz, the Trump administration is turning it into a model for expanding detention capacity across the country,” Shannon Heffernan and Beth Schwartzapfel report at The Marshall Project. “Similar large-scale facilities, opened in collaboration with state governments, are already in the works. Would our troops be used to quell demonstrations in the United States with force? Seeing crowds in Washington, D.C., during the George Floyd riots in 2020, Trump is reported to have asked "Can't we just shoot them?"  How do we answer the question as to whether the current administration will have U.S. troops fire on the crowds? We will look at the Constitution, especially the 10th Amendment, the Insurrection Act of 1807, and the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878. We will review some history where the military has been used domestically to safeguard civil rights marchers, intervene when requested by governors during violent riots, to stop the Bonus March on Washington in 1932, and to imprison Japanese civilians during World War II. We will also define who is in today's military, where do they come from, how do they line up politically—and would they follow an illegal order and fire on unarmed civilian demonstrators or support a government coup? This is concerning, says Dr. Michael Baker, given the militarization of ICE agents and the deployment of National Guard troops and the Marines to Los Angeles for specious reasons. About the Speaker Dr. Michael Baker recently retired from a 40-year career in general, vascular and trauma surgery. He also served 30 years in the uniform of his country and retired with the rank of Rear Admiral and has numerous kudos, including 3 Legion of Merit Awards, the Combat Action Ribbon, and River and Coastal Patrol Officer-in-Charge warfare pin. He has experience in strategic planning, wargaming, combat casualty care, triage, operational medicine, and response to complex disasters and humanitarian emergencies. In Missouri, authorities have finally identified a man whose body was discovered in the Mississippi River south of St. Louis back in 1994. In Franklin Park, Illinois, just west of Chicago, ICE officers say they fatally shot Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez after he allegedly tried to evade arrest by driving his car at officers, dragging one of them. In New York City, authorities have apprehended a suspect in a brutal double homicide involving an elderly couple whose home was set on fire. Trump is now prepositioning the NG troops in each city, they will only be there to protect federal buildings or assist Ice, but they will be there when needed. Trump is now saying that certain left wing groups are being investigated, most likely Antifa is one of them. When the riots begin, Antifa will be designated as a terrorist group. He names them: a "lack of inclusion" and a system that isn't "fair." This is the language of radical, top-down social restructuring. The pandemic, he boasts, was a useful tool to increase this "new alertness" — a wake-up call they intend to answer on our behalf. This isn't about the environment. It's about power. It's about using the pretext of a climate emergency to dismantle and rebuild our economies, our social contracts, and our very way of life according to their utopian, technocratic vision. They believe they can engineer a "better" life for us, whether we want it or not. This is the Great Reset, stated plainly. It's the culmination of their belief that you must be guided to your own salvation.   The ‘Gold Standard' of Jobs Data Is Broken—And America Is Paying the Price   here's something incredibly wrong at BLS, and for the sake of our economy, it's time to fix it.From March 2024 to March 2025—a period mostly covering the final year of the Biden administration—BLS overestimated job numbers by 911,000. In other words, for that period, the nation added a stunning 911,000 fewer jobs than were originally reported, the largest such error on record.Let that sink in. But it's a lot worse than that. Over the last three years, the BLS has overcounted nearly 3 million jobs that didn't exist. These aren't random errors when every revision skews in the same direction. Even more troubling, the BLS numbers released last week pointed in opposite directions. One survey showed 22,000 jobs created while the other suggested nearly 300,000. Which is it?By relying on faulty data and skewed reporting methods, BLS essentially invented millions of jobs that weren't there. That flawed data was then used by the Biden administration and the legacy media to promote a job market that didn't exist, instead of reporting the weak jobs' recovery. Policymakers throughout the government rely on BLS data to shape decisions on taxes, spending and monetary policies. Americans across the country rely on BLS data to judge how elected officials' decisions affect their daily lives and the issues that matter to them, meaning flawed data could change the outcomes of our elections.Most of the period covered in this week's report took place in the waning days of President Joe Biden's tenure. For his last year in office, BLS job numbers were off by more than 50%.That overestimation came during a highly contentious election focused largely on the economy and centered on issues like jobs and inflation. Trump says his administration is opening investigations into leftist groups. Last night, he told reporters that “when you look at the agitator, you look at the scum that speaks so badly of our country, the American flag burning all over the place, that's the left. That's not the right."Trump has ramped up his speech to divide the country following the killing of right wing influencer Charlie Kirk. Despite word from authorities that they are still trying to pin down a motive in the murder, Trump continues to blame what he calls the radical left. Trump the FDR of our time, except from the shoulders up rather than the hips down. There also are a lot of things that Trump fears more than fear itself. For instance, Trump is hiding from Chicago down in Memphis, while ICE attempts to sucker punch the wind out of the Windy City. South Korea has Trump filling his pants as if they designed the assembly line. Everybody seems more scared of Trump than Brazil was of Bolsonaro. Kathy Hochul endorses Zohran Mamdani. It's about time, and it is the time.

Organizing is collective action. It is the tool we employ to overcome harms sanctioned by the state and committed against those who are perceived to be powerless. Organizing exposes inequities, identifies who perpetuates them, and generates solutions to systemic injustices. At a moment when our national leaders are leveraging their powers to undercut civil rights, detain and deport Latinx men, women and children without adherence to laws or norms, organizing is more than an option, it is a necessity.  In this episode of Power Station, I am joined by Danny C, whose commitment to mobilizing underserved communities was shaped by his lived experience as the son of migrant parents who struggled with housing costs and displacement. He co-founded La Colectiva, a nonprofit powered by Northen Virginia's robust Latinx population. It is leading critical organizing campaigns about how ICE, Amazon and ICA-Farmville operate at the expense of and without accountability to Latinx people and all communities of color. It exposes how Democratic leadership fails to honor community over corporations.
