Most of the runners I see who have pain in the ball of the foot from a plantar plate sprain rarely start out with a completely torn plantar plate tear.  More often, runners ignore the pain from the plantar plate sprain and it evolves into a full thickness plantar plate tear.  Surgery is only needed when the plantar plate is torn in such a way that the plantar plate ligament cannot be expected to heal without surgery.  But there are some mistakes that could lead a runner to the operating room. Plantar plate surgery is a failure to act quickly.  That's what we're talking about today on the Doc On The Run Podcast.

I remember going to a seminar and the room was filled with many others who paid tons of money.  The format was an hour of teaching, and an hour of doing.  You'd learn something, then go and implement.  We did this consistently for the 2 days.  During the breaks, everyone looked totally busy.  Engaged.  They were picking up their phones.  I figured everyone was doing the work.  When it came time for questions from the instructor, I realized only 10%-40% of people actually did the work.  To me on the outside, they looked like they were taking action.  They looked like they were doing the work. This entire conversation with Stacie has been a unique experience for me. It was unique in the sense of how much she spoke about her trials within the marriage, her victories, and how amazing her life is now that she has faced them. How she applied herself utilizing what she knew, and stopped using what wasn't working for her. She made a choice to not hide or protect what was ugly in her life anymore. But, none of the above is what made it unique.Why it was unique for me, had to do with being responsible for what she was saying. She was sharing her story, from her perspective, and without wishing anyone ill will. Yet, someone, who will remain anonymous, reached out to me, and in a very mild manner attempted to bully me within the context of my vetting process. Again, it was mild, but it was directed towards me and without any supportive information, without any accountability, and it made a very weak attempt to shame me.  More importantly, it was an attempt using children as the carrot for the why. Having seen Stacie's daughter on social media, and measuring the size of her bright smile, I decided that I was on the right side of this story.I did not reply to this person. I did, however, go back to Stacie and ask once again if she was okay with her story being shared in the manner it was being shared. Sometimes facing a bully takes timing, especially if the bully doesn't know they are bullying. So, I felt responsible to ask Stacie. At the end of this episode you can hear Stacie reply for yourself. It's a great reply, but don't take my word for it, you should decide for yourself.When you have people in your life that demand or condemn you for speaking up, it can have a very heavy effect on your daily life. I say that because we all have a right to share what life looks like to us, what it feels like, and how we process it. The bully also has the same right to speak up and voice themselves. That is the beauty of freedom of speech. The heaviness comes when you stay silent, when you take it, when you don't speak out, and when you think on behalf of other people. Big or small, skinny or fat, child or adult, there are always three sides to a story. Yours, thiers, and the truth. Ask yourself what it is about what they are saying that bothers you so much, ask yourself why are you so bothered by someone sharing their point of view.As Stacie has shared in this series, her life was not easy from her perspective inside of the marriage, but she chose to move on, and as a result of that decision is living a life worthy of her and her daughter's approval. She shares from her perspective.You never know what the other side is going through, so don't assume. When we believe that our way is the right way, we bully our intentions onto others. Give people the freedom to be who they are. To those people who manipulate or cause drama over someone sharing their story, I say this. What is it about someone's story that doesn't have you switch the channel? You have a choice, choose. Maybe turn on a comedy and laugh at how complicated it is sometimes to be human. These are stories, told from the person's point of view. If you are troubled that much by what someone has to say, go tell your story. If you are shy, write it.If you are someone who knows Stacie but are forced to pick a side, as if divorce was a game and you have to wear the jersey of the team because you want to fit in. Trust what you feel. Speak up and reach out. You will be surprised what happens when you are empowered to have an opinion, when you are empowered to have feelings, and when you are empowered to be allowed...to think.

It includes expanding civilian oversight on police agencies, adding stricter rules for no-knock search warrants, and restricting traffic stops for expired tabs. But, the Senate has yet to hear any bills on police reform this session. Senate Minority Leader Susan Kent is urging her colleagues to move quickly:“Right now we have a window of time, while the world is watching, to be the leaders that our communities of color need us to be,” said Kent. “We have over two weeks to pass meaningful public safety reform. We've seen how fast the senate can act when they choose to.”Senate Republicans say the first public safety conference committee meeting is set for Monday. DFL Representative Carlos Mariani, chair of the Public Safety and Criminal Justice Reform Committee, says now is the time to act.“The public wants police reform, and it wants police to be their partners. We can achieve both,” said Mariani. “But the Senate needs to act, because it's never the wrong time to do the right thing.”Meanwhile, federal prosecutors are asking a grand jury to indict the four former police officers involved in the murder of George Floyd on charges of civil rights violations.This comes after Derek Chauvin was found guilty on three murder charges last week. The other three officers face aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter charges. Their trial is set to begin in August.If the grand jury votes to indict, the former officers will face federal civil rights charges in addition to the state's cases.

Clients are not attracted.  They are Created! We all say it.  “Attract Clients”.  It’s not a dirty word.  It is a part of what we do.  Yes, we attract people to us.  We have to or business will be a long time in coming.  But that is only one piece of the puzzle.   If you only rely on attraction to bring you clients, you will remain clientless.    Being a solidly booked master coach, means knowing more than marketing and attraction.  You have to move away from the old school used care sales man style. A midterm solution is to bring in locomotives, which could take up to a year to get running. As for a short term solution, that's where the options get dicey.

Are you acting quickly or hastily?

Picture in your mind a group of youngster exists a nightclub and immediately start to quarrelled, argue, shouting to each other to the point where its escalates to wildly gestures. The situation is near to escalate into fist fight. Police officers patrolling in the area – monitor from distance and in the meantime can only intervene when there is first causality. By the way among police officers- we have young officers and senior officers. Most of the time when officers without background experience intervene, the situation turnout to be worst after than it was before. Young police officers often fall trap to the action bias and dive in immediately. A study showed that later intervention and a great thanks to senior police officers usually lead to few causalities.      Let me give a second example to deeper our understanding. Let say a patient is rushed in the hospital and the patient’s illness cannot be diagnosed with accuracy, doctors are confronted with a dilemma between intervening (ie: prescribing some medication) or waiting and observing. Guess what doctors are prone to taking action. Hence action bias. Such decisions have nothing to do with profit but rather human strong tendency to take action than sit and patiently wait to face uncertainty and even gain from it.    This action bias in action. What is action bias, it is our strong tendency or propensity to act or decide without clarity analysis or sufficient significant information. And this usually happens when the situation is fuzzy, stressful, muddy or contradictory.    Action Bias prevails across board even in the world of finance. Here is what the legendary business partner of warren Buffet, Charlie Munger sums up their approach of investing: “We got …… discipline in avoiding just doing   any dam thing just because you can’t stand inactivity,”    What is the main cause of the action bias/ well as I mention in the previous episode entitle: Why you should not ask anybody wearing a tie Advice or Forecast And Prediction.  For those of you who haven’t listen, please I encourage you and recommend to listen as ground and robust foundation layer before you continue listening this one.          Now back to answer the question what accounts for this tendency of action bias? Well in our old hunter and gatherer environment – action trumped reflection. Acting swiftly just as a thunder lightening was a perquisite condition for our survival. Any second of mental deliberation could be fatal.So when our ancestors saw in shadow or the silhouette of a wild beast that looked like a sabre – tooth tiger. What they did immediately to run away in a blink of an eye to save their life. Guess what – we are the descendant of these quick responders therefore we have inherit action bias from them.    However, the world we live in today doesn’t resemble the past anymore .The world today is completely different and therefore reflection is beyond necessary required, even though our instinct may suggest otherwise. In conclusion If in a given situation you are unclear, hear in your mind alarm bell ringing and hold back until you access our options 2- Remember what Blaise Pascal said “All humanity’s problems from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone”
