Send us a textIn this episode of *2 Giants Goofballs: New York Giants News & Updates*, Drew and Rob cover an exciting week in Giants football as several team members step into the spotlight at key offseason events. Offensive Coordinator Mike Kafka has been named the head coach of the National Team at the Senior Bowl, a prestigious role that highlights his rising profile in NFL coaching circles. Kafka expressed his excitement about working with top college talent and NFL coaches, a statement echoed by Senior Bowl Executive Director Jim Nagy, who believes Kafka is on the fast track to a head coaching job. Adding to the Giants' presence at the Senior Bowl, Running Backs Coach Joel Thomas will serve as the offensive coordinator for the American Team. Meanwhile, Defensive Coordinator Shane Bowen has been appointed head coach for the West Squad at the East-West Shrine Bowl, where he'll work with top prospects, including QB Shedeur Sanders. Inside Linebackers Coach John Egorugwu will also represent the Giants as the defensive coordinator for the West Squad, showcasing the depth of coaching talent within the organization. The episode also explores intriguing offseason developments, including the Las Vegas Raiders requesting an interview with Giants Assistant GM Brandon Brown for their vacant GM position. Brown, who previously spent five years with the Eagles' front office, continues to garner interest from across the league, adding to the Giants' growing reputation as a hub for top-tier front-office talent. Drew and Rob discuss a report from Connor Hughes of SNY, revealing that the Giants had strong interest in drafting Shedeur Sanders last year. With ownership reportedly mandating a playoff appearance in 2025, the team's top priority is finding a franchise quarterback. Could Sanders or another top prospect be the answer? The discussion touches on the potential trade scenarios the Giants might explore to secure a quarterback in the upcoming draft. The show also dives into the idea of targeting DeAndre Hopkins in free agency. Empire Sports Media suggests that Hopkins could be a valuable mentor for rookie standout Malik Nabers and a steadying presence for a potential rookie quarterback. Despite a challenging 2024 season split between the Titans and Chiefs, Hopkins demonstrated his ability to contribute, especially after his trade to Kansas City. The episode weighs the pros and cons of signing Hopkins, particularly if the Giants lose pending free agent Darius Slayton. Finally, Drew and Rob share their picks for the NFL Divisional Round playoffs, analyzing the matchups and offering insights on who might advance to Championship Weekend. From the Texans battling the Chiefs to the Ravens taking on the Bills, the hosts provide their unique perspective on the league's biggest games. This episode delivers a packed agenda, keeping Giants fans updated on the latest news, rumors, and analysis while looking ahead to a pivotal offseason for the team. This month on Shirley Robertson's Sailing Podcast Shirley previews the 37th America's Cup, as the city of Barcelona readies for what promises to be one of the most exciting editions of the famous trophy.Five Challengers are set to battle it out on the fastest foiling monohulls ever built, as they go head to head in the Louis Vuitton Cup, in a fight to take on the Defender, the current holder of the trophy, Emirates Team New Zealand.Robertson talks to representatives from all six of the Cup teams, chatting to team members with a wide range of roles, to get a real insight from across the fleet into what to expect come race day.In this the second episode of this two part edition Robertson kicks things off talking to INEOS Britannia's Design Lead, Martin Fischer. Based at Brackley in the UK, Fischer and his Cup design team share an office with the might of the designers behind Lewis Hamilton and George Russell's Mercedes AMG Formula 1 team, so an obvious discussion point is the influence on F1 design on the increasingly imnportant area of aerodynamics. Fischer was lead design at Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli for the last edition of the Cup, and is an expert voice on the evolution of the AC75 design rule, as well as some ideas on how the other teams' boats are shaping up.Robertson then heads to Orient Express Racing Team, to talk to team CEO Bruno Dubois. Leading a French team that's based heavily on the talented French Sail GP team, Dubois discusses the talented line up in his team of Quentin Delapierre and Kevin Peponnet, he talks about the design package deal between the team and the Defender, and discusses the fact the team were the last to launch their AC75 in Barcelona. From France, Robertson heads across the Barcelona yacht basin, to the home of American Magic, to site down with podcast regular and all around sailing super-helm, Tom Slingsby. Part of the American dual-helm seup with Paul Goodison, Slingsby is a previous Cup winner, but missed the previous Cup in Auckland, The pair discuss much about sailing the AC75, compare it to the F50 of Sail GP, but also discuss the adoption of recumbent cyclors by the American Team, the only team in the Cup to do so.Robertson's final chat is with Swiss Olympic rowing star Barnabe Delarze, one of several rowers in the cyclor team at Alinghi Red Bull Racing. A two time Olympian with a win in the famous University Boat Race on his CV, Delarze discusses life as an AC37 cyclor, how pivotal the role is, why so many of the teams are packed with Olympic rowers, and what winning the Cup for two time winners Alinghi would mean to the team. This edition of the podcast is in two parts.Support the Show.

The LPGA may have a new young star on their hands after former All-American and Curtis Cup star Andrea Lee notched her first victory at the AmazingCre Portland Classic (6:11). The WNBA Season wrapped up at the Las Vegas Aces took the championship, and Alex makes a bold prediction about head coach Becky Hammon (42:46). College football rolled on, and Alex's picks were horrendous but the signs at College Gameday at Appalachian State made up for it (44:17). Michael is full of confidence for his Giants to go all the way this season after a 2-0 start, while Alex's Patriots squeaked out a win and his picks looked impressive (45:52). This month on the podcast it's America's Cup Hall of Famer Tom Whidden who in this second part of his chat with Shirley Robertson discusses in detail the events of the famous 'race of the century', the America's Cup race that saw the New York Yacht Club finally relinquish their one hundred and thirty two year ownership of the America's Cup.It was a landmark edition of the Cup, in which Tom Whidden, onboard with Dennis Connor and his American Team, lost the Cup to Alan Bond's Australian syndicate, Australia II - the loss was the very first time the Cup left ownership of the New York Yacht Club since the first victory in 1851 in front of British Queen, Victoria, in a now famous race around the Isle of Wight. Yet despite the implications of the loss, as Whidden reveals, humour was somehow still on the agenda...:"We had a little dock house where the telephone was, and I walked down the dock and the phone was ringing and I pick up the phone. Dennis is still on the boat at that point...and the voice on the other end says "It's the President, they would like to talk to Dennis" and I say "Yeah yeah yeah", and they say "No, it's really the President, it's President Reagan"...so I get on the loudspeaker and I said "Dennis Connor, Dennis Connor, you have a phone call, it's the President and he wants to tell you you screwed up!"Whidden's lighthearted and amicable style is wonderful to listen to, as he discusses his sailing career with a transfixed Robertson. There are Dennis Connor stories aplenty, including his much talked about "plastic boat" quote of the 1987 Challenger Series campaign, but of course there's far more to Whidden than his America's Cup campaigns. For decades now he's been at the forefront of one of the industry's leading corporate entities as the driving force of new technologies at North Sails, where he currently sits as Executive Chairman.Whidden discusses the growth of the company, the adoption of the revolutionary new production techniques, 3DL and 3Di and the future of the company as they continue to develop sailing technologies. The pair round their discussion off back at the modern day America's Cup, and Whidden's position within the New York Yacht Club, as he discusses his thoughts on the new AC75s, and American Magic's position representing the Club as the Cup heads to Barcelona. This edition of the podcast is in two parts and is available to listen to via the podcast page of Shirley's own website, at www.shirleyrobertson.com/podcast or via most popular podcast outlets, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcast and aCast. A couple of big hockey entries... on this day in sports history. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Summary: In this episode of Transcending Sport, Rob invited Mo Mercado to the show to discuss her time as a University of Arizona athlete. Now a softball instructor., Mo shares her origin story of how she became the pro she is today and how she's passing on the torch to the softball athletes of tomorrow! Timestamps: [00:00] Introduction to Mo Mercado [03:25] Mo grew up in Temecula, Ca, which is now a hotbed for up-and-coming softball players. In her earlier years, they would commute to Garden Grove, a hub for the best teams at the time. Through her many years of practice, Mo learned the meaning of being successful and prepared, setting herself to a high standard to meet with her California competitors. [10:09] Having an uncle who played for the University of Arizona, Mo felt inspired to follow in his footsteps. After attending her dream school, Mo moved on to Team USA. [13:44] Mo credits getting her edge from her parents, who installed batting cages in their home, giving her and her sister the advantage of practicing every day. Overall, Mo recognized that if she kept up with physical training, doing drill work, remaining agile, and altogether staying active, she would always have the edge over others. [16:07] Mo recalls the feeling of surprise but excitement when she was recruited to the Team USA and going to Japan that same summer. [21:59] Mo goes into the importance of being in tune with your mental game. She trusted her ability which was exhibited in her skill. [29:40] Mo describes going to bed visualizing what her pitch would be for her next day so when it was game time, she felt as if she already done the pitch which in turn gave her the confidence boost she needed. [35:58] Connect with Mo Key Topics Discussed: Temecula, CA Getting into UOFA Getting that “edge” Team USA experience The mental game Visualization Quotes: “Putting the jersey on for the first time felt… surreal.” “Understanding and trusting your ability to open the zone is huge from when you get two strikes first none” “Visualization is huge!” Connect with Mo: Instagram Twitter

It was an honor to do this video interview with three of the nine members, seven male, and two female, of the Full Circle Everest team. They hope to make history as the first Black climbing team to attempt to summit Everest. As of late 2021, there have been 10,184 summits but only eight Black climbers have stood on the top. According to the Himalayan Database, South African Sibusiso Vilane became the first Black to summit on May 26, 2003, and returned in 2005 to summit from the Tibet side, both times with UK operator with Jagged Globe. American Sophia Danenberg became the first Black female to summit on May 19, 2006, with IMG. However, they were with standard commercial teams as there has never been an all-Black only team. The team is quite diverse with several members holding a Ph.D. One, Abby Dione, is an AMGA certified climber and runs a climbing gym. The leader, Phil Henderson is a longtime NOLS leader and attempted Everest in 2012 with Conrad Anker reaching Camp 3. Two are North Face-sponsored athletes, Frederick Campbell and Manoah Ainuu. Rosemary Saal is a NOLS instructor who led the first all-Black American team to the summit of Africa's Kilimanjaro in 2018. Demond “Dom” Mullins is is a combat veteran of the Iraq War, where he served as an Armor Crewman. After service Demond became a National Spokesman for Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) and worked as a United States Senate staffer on veterans health and education issues. See the entire team at their site, I spoke today with Phil, Rosemary, and Dom about the expedition. We discussed their "why", who they are trying to reach and of course, all things Everest including their acclimatization and training efforts. The Full Circle Everest team is asking for financial help at their GoFundMe site. They've reached $21,368 of their $50,0000 goal as of this podcast, September 21, 2021. Any amount will help. I donated. You can follow their progress on their site at Full Circle Everest and on Instagram Climb On! Alan Memories are Everything

America, who is a divided nation, will still be rallying around the same team - 82% of Americans will be rooting for the American Team. Plus, it turns out the women's soccer team split the difference during the national anthem… Lou talks about all of it.

Buckle your seatbelts folks, this show is going everywhere this week. We tried to put stuff in something that resembles order but even still we jump around quite a bit. To start with, Circuit of the Americas wants an IndyCar race - and probably won't get one. Josef Newgarden wants to drive in F1, but the American Team doesn't seem to want to give him a chance... F1 went to Reddit to ask fans what we want from the sport - and the fans told F1 that we want to have streaming video, access to more of F1's video, access to more data, and that we'd be willing to pay for that. Sean Bratches was listening because in the US at least we'll probably be seeing a new streaming service next year. F1 has heard the complaints about the halo, and they're acting... If they change the name it will make it all better right? Oh, and expect to see F1 Live type of events coming to more cities in 2018 - our hope is that they remember that there's more to the host country of a race than just the city that the race is hosted in...
