Whether you're a very small business or an established, large corporation, here are two simple pointers on customer service we think are important for everyone to remember. First is a quote to tack up on your wall that we absolutely LOVE. It's from the Chief Talent Officer for Netflix, Patty McCord. "Over the years, we learned that if we asked people to rely on logic and common sense instead of on formal policies, most of the time we would get better results, and at a lower cost." So in this video, you'll hear us expound upon Patty's quote for organizations. Second is a simple customer service acronym that we think is a nice, easy go-to that most people can remember. LAST: Listen, Apologize, Solve and Thank. We'll walk you through some simple thoughts on this acronym as well. What about you? Don't be afraid to try new things: Hello Fall Challenge, Instagram Online Pilot Course. The work is there if you want it. Niching down takes time and that's OK. Targeting a new audience takes time and that's OK too. Focus on your best use. Potential partners: you have to know, like and trust each other first. New levels requires new mentorship. 10 Pre-Holiday Mindset Tips from the Eat, Pray, Love Author (Elizabeth Gilbert)

What's most sacred to you in your life? Your time? Your family? Your relationships? Your sanity? Holidays are a good reminder of that. But let's face it: (A) Work doesn't stop just because the holidays roll around (especially for us entrepreneurs) and (B) although the holidays are supposed to be fun and merry, it can also present some tough situations for a lot of people and families in general. These tips are great for workaholics who often let work creep into their family time at the holidays, for people who have to deal with awkward and uncomfortable family conversations (potentially around that holiday dinner table) and also for those of us who just have a hard time saying no in general (to clients / bosses if you're working, or even to family, etc.) when we really should. Eat, Pray, Love Author Elizabeth Gilbert recently spoke at the Center for Women's #C4WNEW Conference (Women's Conference) in Charleston. We thought she was ABSOLUTELY amazing!! And since it's just before the holidays, we wanted to share these as some pre-holiday tips for you - just to help you get your mind right before tearing yourself away from work and seeing family (although they're great for you to know regardless of the time of year anyway!). These tips are about protecting what's most important to you - what's most sacred. They're designed with women in mind (since this was a keynote at a women's conference), but they are quite applicable to men as well. Cheers and let me know your thoughts on these tips! We included the time-stamps below so you can jump to whatever tip interests you most. Of course, we love ALL of the tips! Absolutely excellent! What tips do you have to help get the most out of your holidays? 10 AMAZING Pre-Holiday Mindset Tips I got from listening to Elizabeth Gilbert - Author of Eat, Pray, Love: 1. 2:35 - The most powerful words a woman can say: I. Don't. Care. Remember, it is not your job to say yes to everything. It IS your job to know what to say YES to so you can have the power to say no to the things that aren't that important to you. 2. 3:51 - Know the Power of Boundaries....so you can protect the things you DO care about (like your time, your relationships, etc.). 3. 4:39 - The Key to Making ANYthing Sacred (like yourself, family, etc.) - draw a circle around it. Things are sacred because we say so. 4. 6:25 - You get to control who gets to walk around in your mind (fabulous Gandhi quote). Don't let negative talk from others enter your mental space. 5. 7:28 - The story of the Kali Durga Goddess (of the Hindu faith) brings some good lessons on how to protect your boundaries. 6. 10:26 - This is what mysticism (Elizabeth believes every religion has some form of a mystic) can teach us about tough situations: the most relaxed person in the room has ALL the power. 7. 15:20 - In difficult situations, it's important to know how to download the magic. How to find your peace and connect to the infinite (whether that be God for you, the universe, etc.). 8. 18:33 - The Story of Job (Biblical Reference from the Christian faith) reminds us that we have never commanded a sunrise. As much as we'd like to think that the Earth doesn't spin unless we crank it, it doesn't. Knowing a bigger power is above it all can actually provide great strength, power and peace in ANY situation. 9. 23:03 - Don't use that rope to hang yourself. Instead, use it to draw a circle around yourself - to declare and keep yourself sacred. And know that everything is always gonna be alright. That's the peace you have when you can connect with the infinite. 10. 23:04 - Knowing how to "download that magic" can give you the power to walk into ANY situation, any room in the world, with all the power you need. Last week we asked the question: WHY do we sabotage our own business dreams? Today we're coming back to you with a special weekend-edition response to that - giving you 5 of our best ways we've found to NOT sabotage our dreams. Below is the quote we were speaking of from Marianne Williamson that helps us so much in this regard. Also, we'll include the link to the original video below for your convenience. Cheers and let us know how you combat this in your own world! “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ....keep shining. Be authentic. 5 TIPS COVERED IN THIS VIDEO: 1. Be sagacious about criticism 2. Keep a Success Journal (or Kudos Folder) - record your wins! Remind yourself of what you're good at. 3. Outsource & Learn (ways to deal with your own shortcomings / weaknesses). Acting like we know it all / enough will sabotage us, stagnate our growth. 4. Try a Kanban Board for combating the attractiveness and allure of perceived fires + eliminate excuses. Time-tracking and budget-checks are also a good thing to do (where we spend our time and money says a lot about our actual priorities in life). First Things First! Recommended books*: First Things First https://amzn.to/2z4wbqB The 4-Hour Work Week https://amzn.to/2PLH4Hp The ONE Thing https://amzn.to/2FiIrZX 5. Remember we were MADE to shine. Our playing small does not serve the world. Whenever you need to be reminded of this, re-read the quote above and internalize that for yourself. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

So today I brought you along with me for a bit of a fall run. Running by the river is a great way for me to clear my head, get some creative juices flowing, etc. And while running, a message came to me literally through a falling leaf. That message is about how we self-sabotage our own dreams. We ask and pray to the universe, God, etc. (insert whatever you believe here) for these magnanimous blessings of business, success, money, relationships - whatever it is. And we GET that opportunity. And then we let it go. We don't really work it, we don't really put in the effort. We literally put in minimal effort expecting maximum results and then seek to blame some outside forces for the failure later. Truthfully - it's not the universe's fault, God's fault, etc. - you were given what you asked for. You just failed to work it! This podcast is about WHY. Why do we do that? What are we actually afraid of? I want to remind you of a quote from one of my most favorite people, Marianne Williamson, regarding this subject: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Now is the time to start thinking about your business goals for 2019. Yes, I said business goals, because your marketing plan begins with that. A surprising amount of small businesses haven't actually given much thought to their business goals. You know you want to make money. You know you need to keep the lights on, make payroll (if you're big enough for that already), keep your clients happy, etc. But what do we really want to accomplish? Are we on expansion mode? Market penetration mode? Are we on new product development this year? Are we just trying to figure out how to really reach our target audience for the first time? Start here. Everything starts with your business goals. Join us next week, Tuesday, October 2, for Part 2 of getting your marketing plan together for 2019. This is definitely a mini-series because there's a lot that goes into a marketing plan. Not just for the sake of HAVING one. But to actually create one that will work to help you reach your goals. Dealing with conflict in business: using emotional intelligence & soft skills

Remember the Four Agreements? One of our favorite lessons from that book is to remember this: nothing anyone ever does is actually because OF you. Because actions are caused by thoughts and beliefs, adn that is nothing you can control for someone else. You can influence it. But you have no ultimate control over it. What we CAN control is our responses to others. We can control our own attitudes, thoughts and actions. And that is where our power lies in any situation. You always have control of yourself. This week's YouTube and IGTV episodes are all about conflict resolution in business. If you're human and you interact with other humans, guess what? You're going to always be dealing with it. Every single year. Our tips for handling them are included here. This weekend I was fortunate enough to attend my client's MaD Metamorphosis Summit right here in Atlanta. Additionally, today I witnessed Georgia Supreme Court's new Chief Justice - Harold Melton - get sworn in at the State Capitol. Very amazing. One of the most important takeaways from this weekend's event and today's swearing in ceremony was this concept of loving the you that you see in the mirror. How to do IGTV

theADSagency's podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 27, 2018 9:16

Wondering what IGTV is, why it is and how to use it? Here are all the basics to get you started – including how to upload a video from mobile and web (once that bug is fixed). Check out our video tutorial below plus these tips and things to know (be sure to watch the intro video for IGTV as well), then let us know what YOU think about IGTV. Will you be using it? Launched last week in San Francisco with an event featuring some of their most popular creators, IGTV (Instagram Television) is the latest innovation by Facebook's greatest acquisition – Instagram (IG). IG is now 8 yrs old and has a global community of over one billion monthly active users. HERE ARE THE IGTV BASICS SO FAR: What is it? LONGER VIDEO: A new app to watch long-form video. That's “long-form” by Instagram standards. So videos need to be between 15 seconds to 10 minutes (certain users, if you're big enough, can do 1 hr long content right now). Previously, the max time limit on IG was 1 minute. VERTICAL VIDEO: Instagram states that IGTV is “built for how you actually use your phone.” So everything now will need to be in portrait mode as opposed to landscape. How does it work? STAND-ALONE APP: IGTV has a separate app that you can download, but it also an in-app feature as well. You can see that as a separate button on the top right of your screen on your phone or as a button on your profile page once you create your own IGTV channel. AUTOMATIC CONTENT: IGTV starts playing automatically as soon as you click on the app. It shows you content from people you already follow on IG and others you might like based on your interests (supposedly), assuming that you don't want to search for what you want to see. So far, I haven't seen any content by people I want to see it from – it seems to have pre-loaded content from the influencers and top creatives it featured in its launch party. DISCOVER CONTENT: You can search (which some users have found disappointing so far) or swipe up to discover more content IG thinks you'll like. You can switch between: For You Following Popular Continue Watching (where you can continue watching videos you had to leave before) Engagement Like most IG posts and stories, you can like, comment and send videos to friends in DM. You can also interact with friends, fans, etc. right there in the app. See someone's videos right there, follow them from there, etc. What should we know? Anyone can start their own channel (like YouTube). Just upload a video directly through the app or web. You can watch how to upload a video, add a title and description via our latest YouTube video on this. You can also put links in the description of videos to drive traffic outside of IG. Opportunities to monetize IGTV will be coming in the future are coming. (No ads on IGTV yet). Future ad revenue potential for IG: $5.48B in 2018 alone. To size videos for IGTV, go for 1080 x 1920 (just switch the values in Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or whatever you use to edit videos). Be sure to check out the launch party video here and let us know what you think! Why did Instagram do this? They say teens are watching 40% less TV and are instead watching more creators online. The number of creators has grown exponentially (its now reached 100s of millions of followers according to Kevin – co-Founder of IG). On the IG platform, people watched 60% more video in the past year. So Kevin feels how we watch and what we watch is changing quickly. IGTV is their answer to this. IGTV Launch Messaging: “Mobile-first” – built with your phone in mind. They want people to love vertical video. Simple: do one thing and one thing really will (saying at IG). Intuitive to use. Quality: the BEST videos, not just all of them. Swipe around to check out creator's channels (discovery). Content Strategy for IGTV: What are people planning for their IGTV channels? Here are some of IG's best content creator's plans so far for IGTV. @brycexavier – motivational tips, random thoughts, etc. @lelepons – comedy skits, dance videos, etc. Over 25M (biggest influencer on IG). Perfected the 1min sketch. More time: more comedy to come. Starting her own cooking show. Friends competing to see what dish is the best, she decides at the end. Sneak peek of new episode she did. “What's cooking with Lele Pons” IGTV Timeline: 2010: square photos and filters 2013: launched video (5 yrs ago) 2016: launched stories (100s of Ms share stories) 2018: long form, vertical video from the creators you love. Mobile-first, simple, quality. SUBSCRIPTIONS: CHECK OUT OUR ADS PODCAST ON ITUNES SUBSCRIBE TO ADS YOUTUBE SIGNUP FOR ADS EMAILS ABOUT A.D.S. Andrea D. You wouldn't necessarily think there's much you could learn about business from a guy who's a forester. He's now the pastor of a small, humble AME church in Union Springs, AL and teaches agriculture at one of the world's greatest HBCU's (Historically Black Colleges and Universities): Tuskegee University. So what can this global marketing gal learn from her Smokey-the-Bear-like dad about business? Plenty. Apparently, he's always been smarter than the average bear.

In the wake of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain's suicides last week, it made me think about the value of life and the state of mental health in America. We do so much to treat our physical bodies and quite little attention to our mental states and health. Not doing so lead can lead to deep depression and ultimately things like suicides, mass shootings, homicides and more. I'm no expert in mental health, but what I do know is that we need to do more to care for ourselves and others. And the biggest lessons from all of this? (1) Be kind to others because you truly never know what they're going through and (2) Know your purpose in life. That's a serious pathway towards the richest and most meaningful life possible. How to Use TweetDeck for Your Business

theADSagency's podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 5, 2018 14:55

Looking for something that helps make Twitter make sense? Do you not get Twitter? Just not your most fun platform (or your best ROI platform)? Anybody can use a social media management platform like HootSuite, Buffer or Sprout Social to manage and schedule social media posts, tweets, etc. But what if you manage several social media accounts? What if you want to do some real engagement with your Twitter followers without taking forever to scroll through that Twitter home page (i.e. like your Facebook timeline)? What if you want to quickly be able to scan what's happening in national / global news versus local news, the business arena, your top engagers, etc.? This is a tool you absolutely need to check out. TweetDeck is a tool that's free and easy to use - plus it works so seamlessly for your main Twitter account (and any others you happen to have to take care of). Here's a few tips to use it: First go to TweetDeck.Twitter.com to access your own free account. It helps if you've already logged into Twitter. It will walk you through how to set it up from there, which only takes a few minutes. Maybe 15 max.  Go back to Twitter and set up your lists. Lists are interests of yours. Want to see what your competition is doing? Set up a private list that only you can see where you can monitor their tweets. Want to keep up on the latest in industry news? You can make a list for that. The point is, whatever it is that you want to track in Twitter (hashtags for a conference, etc.) - make a list for it in Twitter. Do this on a laptop. Just hover over your profile image (i.e. "avatar" as some people call it) on the top right corner of your Twitter homepage, scroll down to the "Lists" option underneath "Profile." From there, it will easily walk you through setting up new lists. Just click create a list, name the list, then select whomever you want to be a part of that list. Then select if you want it to be public or private. You can add on a description to the list if you like (more helpful if you want the list to be public and are interested in getting people to subscribe to that list). Boom - done. In TweetDeck, create a new "column" where you can monitor your list whenever you like. Just click "add column" on the far left, dark grey column-bar, find your list and follow the steps from there. Easy-peasy. Organize the lists as you like! Now, you can easily organize your lists by clicking the "toggle" looking button on the far right of any list column you have in TweetDeck. If you click that, you'll see a drop-down menu where you can click left / right arrows to move the column to the left or right in TweetDeck, you'll see options to edit your column or delete it, etc.  That's it! You can search for hashtags using TweetDeck and easily create a column to monitor any hashtag you like. Follow your competitors using TweetDeck. Follow your top customers / clients. Follow your top fans / engagers. It's a great tool for social listening as well as engaging with those who matter most to you. Try it out and see how you like it! Any questions? Just ask here.   OTHER VIDEOS TO CHECK OUT: How to Create a POWERFUL Business Name The BEST Secrets of Networking ELEVATE Your Launch Parties ADS PLAYLISTS TO CHECK OUT: Marketing 101 ADS Chats Career Tips SUBSCRIPTIONS: CHECK OUT OUR ADS PODCAST ON ITUNES SUBSCRIBE TO ADS YOUTUBE SIGNUP FOR ADS EMAILS ABOUT A.D.S. This year, we're leaving the conversation up to you. What should we chat about? Tell us in the comments below - we'd LOVE to know. Also, should we do this YouTube live? Traditionally, we've only gone live on Facebook, but if you think it's worth it, we'll go live here too! Up to you. Cheers and thanks! WHAT “IF” BY RUDYARD KIPLING CAN TEACH US ABOUT ANALYSIS PARALYSIS, PERFECTIONISM PARALYSIS AND THE “DONE IS BETTER THAN PERFECT” CONCEPT. Two of the biggest enemies of success: Analysis Paralysis and Perfectionism Paralysis. We have so much negative talk and artificial roadblocks in our heads that keeps us from starting or finishing something: a business, that website, our book, that song, that album, the company app. We end up endlessly tweaking - never finishing. How do we get around that? Perhaps the concept of "done is better than perfect" can help with that - but when is that appropriate and when is it not? Do we sacrifice excellence for productivity? Do we trade off the time it takes to master a craft for the sake of churning out projects? Come chat with us about it here and let us know what you think! We're tying our thoughts into the famous poem "If" by Rudyard Kipling and another concept around the French word "Bricolage" - plus we have two book recommendations for you from Jon Acuff. "You are the steward of the cluster that’s drawn to your brand.” Today, we’re simultaneously in control of our brands and not in control, as we build an increasingly diverse audience across diffused media platforms and touch points. It’s this dynamic that Gabriella Mirabelli spends most of her time helping big media and tech brands navigate. We talked about millennials, media brands, and more this week on the On Brand podcast.   About Gabriella Mirabelli Gabriella Mirabelli is the foremost authority on translating millennial behavioral trends for executives at major media enterprises. She was listed on Inc. as one of the "5 Unsung Heroes of New Media" and is the CEO and co-founder of ANATOMY, a New York based, Emmy Award winning creative agency and branding consultancy. As the host of The Up Next Podcast, she talks with the brightest innovators, risk takers, and disrupters on the front lines of change from Hollywood, Wall St., Silicon Valley, and beyond. Over the last half decade, Gabriella has studied how the practices of media brands intersect with the media consumption habits of millennials. Her most recent in-depth report “Millennials At the Gate” is an examination of streaming, ad blocking, and piracy habits of young millennials. It has been cited by major publications such as Forbes, The Wrap, MediaPost, and Yahoo Finance. Episode Highlights What are the top millennial behavioral trends that brand builders need to be aware of? First, Gabriella focuses on what she calls "young millennials — ages 18–24. Two-thirds of millennials are ad blocking. Sixty-nine percent are pirating and, of those, 67% think there’s nothing wrong with that." How can we translate these trends into brand initiatives? “It’s all about the touch points, the overall experience. Social platforms are giving that emotional payoff.” As brand builders, we have to make sure that we’re creating a brand that means something to our audience. Surrendering control of our brands. “We’re both in control and not in control of our brands today. You are the steward of the cluster that’s drawn to your brand. Apple is a great example of this." When it comes to media, are we marketing the show — content brands — or the larger network brand? As Gabriella noted, “I have a strong opinion about this. It’s the show brand. You go to see the show. You don’t go to the AMC theater. You go to see the movie playing there. Unless you’re an art house theater that curates and adds meaning. They’re about creating a better experience with real butter on the popcorn, where the ushers care about film.” What brand has made Gabriella smile recently? “Netflix. And what I love is that they don’t market to me obnoxiously but they still have meaning to me. They care about audience and experience."
