Send us a textIn this episode, I am joined by climate expert Tom Knutson to explore the nuanced science of climate change, focusing on Atlantic hurricane patterns, extreme rainfall, and the complexities of climate modelling. Tom sheds light on the challenges in attributing natural disasters to human influence, emphasizing the importance of understanding multi-decadal variability, regional factors, and the limitations of current data. We discuss how these intricacies are often overlooked in mainstream narratives and why a pragmatic approach to climate science is essential for informed public discourse. The team looks over the past week of news in the energy industry and gives its views on some big market trends - joined by special guest Jake Tudge corporate affairs director at National GasIn this episode, we delve into the startling outcome of the UK government's fifth CfD allocation round (AR5), which garnered zero bids for large-scale offshore wind projects, jeopardising the country's 2030 targets for renewable energy. We discuss the industry's concerns and the implications for future auctions.National Grid's new approach to grid capacity allocation aims to speed up the connection of shovel-ready projects. Taken along with Government promises to relax planning laws for wind farms, is this the impetus that the industry needs? We also cover significant deals in the sector, including KKR and Infracapital's combined investment in Zenobe, news of DIF Capital Partners exceeding its fundraising target, and Shell securing a large PPA in Germany, extending its reach into the European renewable market. Also on this episode, we have an exclusive interview with Jake Tudge about what's changed and what has stayed the same since the formation of National Gas, delving into the future of the UK's hydrogen infrastructure. Tudge is the corporate affairs director at National Gas, responsible for the organisation's external engagement, brand, and reputation. National Gas formed in February 2023 following the majority sale of National Grid Gas Transmission & Metering by National Grid Group to a consortium led by Macquarie Asset Management with the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation.Hosted by:Oliver Carr - Lead analystDila Cebeci - Senior analystAshkenaz Al - Reporter Reach out to us at: podcasts@inspiratia.comFind all of our latest news and analysis by subscribing to inspiratiaListen to all our episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other providers.Reach out to us at: podcasts@inspiratia.comFind all of our latest news and analysis by subscribing to inspiratiaListen to all our episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other providers.

Marc Buckley is an advocate for the SDGs, Member of the Expert Network for the World Economic Forum for Innovation, Climate Change, Agriculture, Food, and Beverages, an international climate speaker and much more. I will speak with him togehter with Lothar Stadler, Chief Commercial Officer of Imhotep.Industries about the climate crisis, the SGDs and the importance of fresh water. Other topics were also: - the 3rd part of the sixth IPCC report - the potential of meat cultured from cells - what role vertical farming could play - why clean water is an SDG - how Imhotep.Industries harvests drinking water from the air - how far the development of the Phantor has come - the potential of technical solutions to end water scarcity - more solutions for a more sustainable life - how global warming can be stopped - what's next for the Phantor - whether the SDGs can still be achieved by 2030 Editorial comment on the IPCC and geoengineering: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) included the issue of geoengineering in the Summary for Policymakers of its Working Goup I on AR5 published in 2013. A distinction is made between carbon dioxide removal/CDR technologies and solar radiation management/SRM. In the March 2022 Summary for Policymakers of his Working Group II on AR6, the researchers noted to SMR: "Solar radiation modification approaches, if they were to be implemented, introduce a widespread range of new risks to people and ecosystems, which are not well understood (high confidence). Solar radiation modification approaches have potential to offset warming and ameliorate some climate hazards, but substantial residual climate change or overcompensating change would occur at regional scales and seasonal timescales (high confidence). Large uncertainties and knowledge gaps are associated with the potential of solar radiation modification approaches to reduce climate change risks. Solar radiation modification would not stop atmospheric CO2 concentrations from increasing or reduce resulting ocean acidification under continued anthropogenic emissions (high confidence)."
We start getting down to specific arguments that can be made to judges and specific testimony from the forensic expert that would likely succeed in educating the court --- as Bill has repeatedly done in the past. No lawyer can proceed with a defense without knowing the weaknesses in the case against his or her client. Most lawyers proceed without the facts that would reveal those weaknesses. So the starting point is Bill (or some other qualified forensic investigator). The NEXT step is hiring a lawyer who can then develop a strategic and tactical plan to attack the now-revealed weaknesses and defects in the case against the homeowner. We will analyze an unsigned letter, supposedly from New Rez c//o PHH responding to a QWR by saying that the investor they have listed is "Wells Fargo, N.A., The Bank of New York Mellon f/k/a The Bank of New York, successor in interest to JP Morgan Chase Bank, N.A. as Trustee for Structured Asset Mortgage Investments II Trust 2006-AR5, Mortgage Pass-Through Certificates, Series 2006-AR-5" There are about 5 salient things that make that statement (a) an illegal response to the QWR and (2) establishing an inconsistent statement that cannot be reconciled unless the prosecuting claimant alleges a clear statement and proves the status of the claimant. But most of all I explained how this was an opportunity for him to start educating the judge and I suggested that he file a motion for clarification and/or more definite statement since it was impossible for him to determine who the Plaintiff was and who he should pay --- while all the while taking the position that he wants to pay and has the resources to do so. Even if denied this brings the issue up on the radar of the judge. It moves the needle, even if not completely.
This week is part one of our two-part series on CLIMATE CHANGE. For part one, Sean and Nathan talk about what is causing climate change and how humans are involved in all of that. Part two (coming next Monday!) covers the different scenarios for what the world could look like in the year 2100, and what we can do to combat climate change! Stay tuned! In the episode, Sean praises China for building a lot of renewable energy, but he didn't know how aggressively India has been expanding their renewable energy capacity (https://reut.rs/2SmotAv). Also, in the episode Sean and Nathan discuss electrification of rural areas, an important variable in the emissions-reduction equation. India has made big strides in electrifying rural areas in the past few years, and nearly all households now have electricity for part of the day. The challenge now is getting them electricity for more of the day, ~50% of rural households have electricity for about half the day. That's better than nothing! But it suggests the grid may be stressed when they need it most, like to help with cooling during heat waves (or to help avoid food spoilage, preservation of drugs/vaccines and stuff, etc). This episode also features listener responses to episode 4 on acupuncture!Podcasts are an audio format, but sometimes visual learning is way more convincing, so check out some beautiful graphics here: https://visme.co/blog/climate-change-facts/Email us at petridishpod -at- gmail.com! David Freestone gives a talk for the public international law seminar series. Please note, the recording of this podcast ended before the end. We apologise for the inconvenience. As the oceans warm and ice melts, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in its Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) now predicts a global average sea-level rise of up to one metre by 2100. AR5 also emphasizes that sea-level rise will have “a strong regional pattern, with some places experiencing significant deviations of local and regional sea level change from the global mean change.” These predictions pose serious and possibly existential threats to the inhabitants of low lying islands and coastal areas, and pose challenges for the international legal system to respond in an orderly and humane way to these novel situations. In 2012, the International Law Association (ILA) established a new Committee to look specifically at these issues. This presentation will look at the work undertaken by the Committee to date regarding the law of the sea aspects of its mandate and identify some considerations for its future work.

If you’re listening to this from a post-apocalyptic Pokemon-dominated global-warming ravaged future –- welcome! We’re getting to crunch time in the election, and a whole suite of new climate-related polls have been released in just the last few days. Is this finally the election in which climate change is going to play a big role? When you look at America as a whole, climate change still ranks relatively near the bottom in terms of voters’ priorities. Last week, a Pew survey ranked the environment as 12th out of 14 major issues, just below trade policy. But if you burrow in to the large and growing section of America that’s deeply concerned about climate change, you’ll find there are a lot of single-issue voters that are very engaged. We have a lot in store for today’s show: Pokemon is making people go outside for the first time; Bernie has endorsed Hillary; Trump is still Trump. Sheer craziness. The IPCC, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, issued the fourth part of AR5 last week. Professor Piers Forster, one of the lead authors, came to the University of York last week to explain how the final text was agreed.
With the publication of National Grid's annual Winter Outlook Report it's clear that safety margins between electricity supply and demand are much tighter than they were. However, standby generators and agreements with major power users are likely to be able to keep the lights on. The UK still needs a firm commitment to a long-term energy policy. With the latest report from the IPCC urging the phasing out of fossil fuels, is the government, with its scepticism about green issues and firm commitment to fracking, on the right track?
The IPCC Fifth Amendment Report (AR5) on climate change was released in Stockholm on September 27th. The New York Times reported on what it called the report’s “near certainty” that humans are responsible for the rising temperatures of recent decades. On this week’s Tell Somebody, one of its contributing authors, Michael J. Prather, will be on hand to talk about it. Prather is a professor of earth system science at the University of California-Irvine.
