This week, having recently spoken about anxiety, an emotion that lives in the future, we're turning our attention to the ways we become burdened by the past.I can't recall any famous hijacks, we pay tribute to Matthew Perry, who we focused on in one of our very early episodes, and we talk rituals and wet shaving. We're on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/sideways_podcast/We're on TikTok @landiwellbeingYou can email us at info@grahamlandiwellbeing.co.ukThanks again for listening, we really appreciate it.
This book draws together some of Jane Austen's earliest literary efforts. It includes "Love & Freindship" and "Lesley Castle" both told through the medium of letters written by the characters. It also contains her wonderful "History of England" and a "Collection of Letters" and lastly a chapter containing "Scraps".In these offerings, we may see the beginnings of Miss Austen's literary style. We may also discern traces of characters that we encounter in her later works. G. K. Chesterton in his preface, for example, says of a passage in Love and Freindship; "... is there not the foreshadowing of another and more famous father; and do we not hear for a moment, in the rustic cottage by the Uske, the unmistakable voice of Mr. Bennet?" These works are certainly worth exploring for their own sakes and not simply as historical relics. - Summary by Noel Badrian --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/librivox1/support

Before becoming the author of such classics as Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, and Emma, Jane Austen experimented with various writing styles as a teenager in the early 1790s. This is a collection of her juvenilia, including the epistolary novels Love and Freindship, Lesley Castle, and Lady Susan, as well as her comic History of England and some shorter pieces. Love and Freindship [sic] is a juvenile story by Jane Austen, dated 1790, when Austen was 14 years old. Love and Freindship (the misspelling is one of many in the story) is clearly a parody of romantic novels Austen read as a child. This is clear even from the subtitle, "Deceived in Freindship and Betrayed in Love," which neatly undercuts the title.Written in epistolary form, it resembles a fairy tale as much as anything else, featuring wild coincidences and turns of fortune, but Austen is determined to lampoon the conventions of romantic stories, right down to the utter failure of romantic fainting spells, which always turn out dreadfully for the female characters. In this story one can see the development of Austen's sharp wit and disdain for romantic sensibility, so characteristic of her later novels.(Adjusted from Wikipedia. Fainting women were a pretty common trope in 19th century literature. I discuss some reasons why Victorian-Era women were likely to faint, but also explore how much of what we know about “fainting culture” might have been myth, and how much was likely reality. ***** References Agnew, Molly Elizabeth. “The Truth About Corsets: Busting the Myths.” https://thevintagewomanmagazine.com/the-truth-about-corsets-busting-the-myths/ Austen, Jane. Today Scott and Emily are excited to bring you part 2 of an amazing podcast with their dear friends Eric and Sandra Stinnett to the podcast. If you haven't listened to part one yet you can find it here. Scott and Emily believe this is one of the most important podcasts they have done so far. At Project Roots and Wings we believe there are certain values, principles and character traits that create a sustainable long lasting relationship. Eric and Sandra spoke honestly about two of those values in episode one: FREINDSHIP and COMMUNITY. This podcast highlights three more: ENDURANCE, PERSISTENCE and HUMILITY. In Part 2, Eric and Sandra reveal the low point of their relationship and the steps they took to emerge stronger and better together. They also share how these values and principles were challenged at a very deep level which solidified their value. Their marriage is stronger because of the commitments they made to friendship with each other as well as surrounding themselves with deep community. You can find Sandra on Instagram at TheVoiceboxDoctor Email us at: scott@projectrootsandwings.com Find us at: www.projectrootsandwings.com

In todays episode I have a special guest Harper one of my older sisters, join us today as we talk about friendship, the up's AND the downs!
Do you remember your first dates with your spouse? All the goosebumps and butterflies that came with going out. Our first date was full of all the butterflies when we saw the movie Titanic in December of 1997. It was so romantic. We started off our relationship in the most amazing way. Going from seeing Titanic to kissing in Times Square for New Years Eve. All. The. Feels. We got so far away from this point. For a while in our marriage, we were nowhere close to all the feelings that we had experienced on these first dates. We don’t want to blame the kids, but we have to acknowledge that having a child every two years was having an impact on our dating relationship. It had an impact on our finances and our free time to even spend alone time together. The good and the bad of this season is that it does not last forever. Those daughters grew up and we no longer needed to pay a sitter and could have a weekly date night. Weekly date nights should never be a requirement in a marriage. I do believe there are great benefits to these date nights though, but it’s not all about something that leads to more sex. For us, it became about keeping our friendship strong. Life is hard and can sometimes just suck (hello 2020!) and our strong friendship is exactly what we needed to lean on. Our date nights are about connecting in this friendship. I have needed my husband to be my bestie, especially this year. Date nights don’t have to be about romance or increasing your sex life. They can be about strengthening and growing your friendship. When you are Best Friends with someone you also love deeply (and find sexy!), it strengthens everything about your relationship. It’s not always about going out, it’s about hanging out with your best friend. Listen to more about Marriage in this series in Episode 56, Episode 57, and Episode 58. You can also listen to my hubby and I talk about all things Marriage on Episode 23 & Episode 24. Notable Points: “We’re not on vacation” “The love for one another was not feeling so strong, but we had our friendship to fall back on” “Those date nights kept us connected as friends” “I’ve needed his friendship” “You can stay at home and still have amazing date nights” Grab the First Steps to Intuitive Eating Guide https://www.healthcoach4life.com/firststeps Resources: Purchase Tee’s, Tanks & More Podcast on Instagram Join My Mailing List Download Negative Self Talk eBook Connect with Jennifer Coaching on Instagram Instagram Facebook Pinterest Email: podcast@healthcoach4life.com

She is a Second City graduate, hopeless romantic, a forever friend and life lover. d.d. marx came barreling into this world with the “gift of gab”. Her parents quickly identified a pattern forming when each teacher conference contained the words “she’s a little too social”. She parlayed this gift into creating play dates on the playground. In today's podcast Mat and Summer discuss what friendship means to them and how finding good friends can affect your life as a teen girl.
