Send us a textIn the first of a two-part conversation, we sit down with Chris (aka Dexta), co-founder of Planet Wax, a legendary record shop, bar, venue, and radio station in New Cross dedicated to underground dance music and its surrounding culture and community. This episode explores Dexta's journey through the UK music scene from the late 1990s to early 2010s. Growing up in North London, his musical passion began with compilation albums and cassette tapes, with a particular affinity for The Prodigy and UK garage. Dexta recalls his first production experiments using basic software that came free in a cereal box, before transitioning to DJing after acquiring a pair of belt-drive turntables. The conversation traces his evolution through various music scenes—from UK garage to grime, and eventually to drum and bass. He shares his experiences with pirate radio, first as a listener of Y2K Radio, then as a presenter hosting his own shows on stations like Rush FM, Elite Radio, and UK Bass Radio. These platforms allowed him to connect with fellow DJs and build an audience while honing his skills both as a DJ and presenter.Dexta recounts his early club experiences, including his first gig at age 16 where he played a 15-minute set as part of "Solid Jam Cartel" (SJC). He discusses frequenting iconic London venues like Fabric, The End, and Bar Rumba, where he discovered various subgenres of drum and bass. His musical tastes gradually shifted from "jump up" drum and bass to darker, more underground sounds.Throughout the episode, Dexta reflects on technological changes in music production and distribution—from early software like Mixman and Fruity Loops to the transition of record shops moving online. He also touches on his brief relocation to Bournemouth, where he discovered even darker drum and bass sounds, before returning to London with ambitions to launch his own record label.Support the showhttps://www.youtube.com/@ControlledWeirdnesshttps://open.spotify.com/artist/20nC7cQni8ZrvRC2REZjOIhttps://www.instagram.com/controlledweirdness/https://controlledweirdness.bandcamp.com/Theme song is Controlled Weirdness - Drifting in the Streetshttps://open.spotify.com/track/7GJfmYy4RjMyLIg9nffuktHosted from a South London tower block by Neil Keating aka Controlled Weirdness. Tales from a Disappearing City is a chance for Neil to tell some untold subcultural stories from past and present, joined by friends from his lifelong journey through subterranean London. Neil is a veteran producer and DJ and has been at the front line of all aspects of club and sound system culture since the mid 80's when he first began to go to nightclubs, gigs, and illegal parties. His musical CV includes playing everywhere from plush clubs to dirty warehouses as well as mixing tunes on a variety of iconic London pirate radio stations. He has released music on numerous underground record labels and was responsible for promoting and playing at a series of legendary early raves in the USA at the start of the 90's. Bonne et excellente année 2025 ! Ce mois-ci, pour bien commencer l'année, l'équipe de La Grosse Bouffe s'est penchée au-dessus de sa boule de cristal pour un épisode consacré à la modernité... NON ! MIEUX ! A l'hypermodernité ! DJ Delish https://linktr.ee/djdelish215 , a somewhat enigmatic figure, delivers another meticulously crafted, vogue-inspired project. This time, she questions the decline in creativity despite technological advancements. Her inquiry isn't meant to antagonize but to awaken a realization that the ballroom, underground club, and overall music scenes are stuck in a repetitive and disheartening loop. This project aims to reignite self-awareness among music, visual, and vocal producers in these communities. Known for her unconventional and sometimes outlandish production techniques, DJ Delish stays true to her methodical process in this project. With an extensive history of using unlikely and daring songs and samples to create her distinctive sound, this mixtape is no exception. You may hear "Yoshi," a piece of a prophetess, or samples of a commentator from 1997—with her, you never know until you press play. 1. WERQ ME [2024] 02:27 2. KUNT-SHI [YOSHI HA] 02:55 3. This isn't to go to the "underground" producers, the ones who don't have studios, the ones who aren't big mansions and basements, the ones who aren't working with Ableton and Fruity Loops but yet somehow still creating the culture, creating the very sound that every celebrity has admitted they've needed. JR Swiftz - https://www.instagram.com/jrswiftzofficial/JR Swiftz is a hip hop producer born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. His journey into beat making began shortly after relocating to Virginia at the age of ten. There he would watch his father Jayswiftz who is also a producer, interact with many well known artists such as Busta Rhymes, Kool G Rap, AZ and Papoose just to name a few. JR's love for the craft grew deep as he watched his father make music but he also had outside influences such as Nottz, Black Milk, AraabMuzik, Hi-Tek and J-Dilla. He would first make his beats on Fruity Loops, then Ableton and now the MPC Live. He took his experience and inspirations to develop his own style and at age 29, he's created tracks for artists such as Conway the Machine, Westside Gunn, Flee Lord, Skyzoo, Elzhi, Armani Caesar and Rome Streetz. He also produced the entire album 'Seven Times Down Eight Times Up' for Elzhi that's garnering a lot of praises in the hip hop community. From the work of Italian researcher, Paolo Vanoli, who believes that the aggressive vaccine schedule and the mercury in vaccines can be attributed to men and women being altered and adapting to same sex relationships. to glucose and fructose altering a protein in the DNA, which regulates the production of testosterone and estrogen, we look at the variables and random factors that could be contributing to what many might consider to be a gender crisis.

"Jordan Rakei" is a multi-instrumentalist singer, songwriter and producer based in London.Jordan was born in New Zealand but moved to Australia as a child. He got into music via his parents record collection which included artists such as Stevie Wonder and Pink Floyd. As a musician it was the music of Stevie Wonder that would inspire Jordan to tech himself the piano, originally studying Stevie's chord progressions.Based in Brisbane, Jordan would begin to produce his own music, originally using Fruity Loops. He created a SoundCloud account to upload his music and it wasn't long before he put together his debut EP, "Franklin's Room" which he self-released in 2013.Despite being able to make a living solely from music while living in Brisbane, Jordan thought that his life was a little too easy, and not challenging enough. It was this feeling that eventually led him to move to London, where is he currently based.Fast forward to 2022, with many albums under his belt and a record deal with Ninja Tune, Jordan continues to explore his version of electronic soul, mixed with his unique lyrical approach."Roots to Grooves" is a production of SIGNL.https://www.signlradio.comhttps://www.instagram.com/signlradiohttps://www.twitter.com/signlradiohttps://www.facebook.com/signlradiohttps://www.mixcloud.com/signlhttps://open.spotify.com/user/96mhz6qfjoztxbl2dpm0uj903?si=aAZpsoEnRAKdx85kr1QWhg

Oluwaaa Burna Also known as Burna Boy has given us "Twice As Tall" which is a must-have in your playlist of Albums. Nigerian Born Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu in 1991 started making music when he was just ten years old when a high school classmate gave him a copy of the FruityLoops production program. Armed with these tools, he started making his beats on an old computer. After graduating, he moved to London to attend college, but dropped out after two years and returned to Nigeria. In 2010, 19-year-old Ogulu traveled to the southern part of Nigeria, where producer LeriQ, who knew each other, ran a small studio. This was the period when he began to embrace the music of his country and spent most of his adolescence immersed in American artists like DMX. He enthralled himself in dancehall and the reggae music his father listened to and explored the Afrobeat music favored by his Grandfather, Fela Kuti's first manager. As a result of his new discoveries, Burna has created a variety of genres that have become his signature sounds. Here he acoustically steers our ears through a journey of self-discovery. Twice As Tall, the expressive sequel to African Giant was nominated for Best Album in World Music at last year's Grammy Awards. "It's an album about the struggle for freedom," Burna Boy said in a statement. "This is an album about life in general, real life, good times, bad times, happy times, sad times, good times." The production on Twice As Tall, as the majority of the project, was recorded in Lagos during the pandemic, which Is to say Burna is one of Africa's greatest. If you haven't Stream the album yet, Then you are definitely missing out!
This week, we are honored to have @jormek from Spain warming up your weekend. We hope you're as excited as we are to get some breakbeat, house, and funky vibes tomorrow at the Haunted Hoedown! About Jormek: Jormek, called DJ MiGhT before, started at the end of the 90s that through "tracker" programs investigated how to modify songs and personalize them taking it to the breakbeat style at the time he found the Fruity Loops program (I started with 3.56) where it was similar to the pc tracker but with great potential. Currently and after having gained experience with the FL Studio I immersed myself with Ableton where he currently performs his songs. PODCAST NO.# 236 -- ♤ -- PIK-FEIN presents... KLARK KENNT @ SONDERSPUR PODCAST - FRANKFURT -♠♤♠ ⎯⎯ ♠♤♠⎯⎯ ♠♤♠⎯⎯ ♠♤♠⎯⎯♠♤⎯⎯ ♠♤♠⎯⎯ - ARTIST - ...INFOs... Choke down those omega-3s and slip on your Crocs, because today's Kast is all about the Proxy solo jam "Bed, Bath, Etc." That's right... It's a deep dive into the world of middle-class suburban white moms, through the lens of rap (for some reason). We'd love to say that if you listen it will all make sense, but... it won't. You'll have fun anyway though! *And* you'll be treated to the carefully manicured thoughts of two cis white dudes on Michael Jackson, R. Kelly and cancel culture at large. Hoo boy... RockerMike and Rob Presents: Daniel Shaw Uppercase D and The lowercases Guitar was the first instrument that captured Daniel’s attention. Next was drumming. He wore headphones and studied In-a-gadda-da-vida every day, memorizing the drum solo and every little nuance of the recording. He also enjoyed singing along with the band Foreigner while his dad recorded it on the stereo. From age 4-11 it was air jamming, but guitar lessons changed his world. Taught to play by ear along with Black Sabbath, Zeppelin, etc, D quickly learned all of his favorite songs on electric guitar and air drums. Locking himself in the room with War Pigs screaming through his amp placed in the window, facing OUT, a small crowd would gather to enjoy his ability to play along. D played bass and guitar in numerous bands from his late teens to late 30’s. Growing up in Woodstock NY, he was sharing stages with the coolest local acts. His musical style ranges from rock, metal, punk, funk, to trippy grooves. D taught himself to play bass and NOT air drums by age 20. Utilizing his understanding of song structure, ability to play every instrument, sing, and intense focus on the mixing aspect, D began recording onto 4-track cassette. Finally the DR-880 Dr. Rhythm became a staple in 2008. Daniel finally had a way to create all of his original and cover songs with bass and drum patterns to work with. He spent hours on little details, testing mixdowns on various sound systems to ensure a well-balanced mix. Along the way he started making his own music videos. Using a phone or tablet for editing, and music apps, Caustic3 and Fruity Loops became the focus until present. He was never into electronic music and decided to embrace it’s wonderful existence with the intention of adding a human feel. Now he’s been mixing it all. He built a vocal booth and has a small 32-track home studio. His works are posted on social media. Daniel Shaw was the guitarist in a band called SPB https://m.soundcloud.com/daniel-shaw8/born-from-underneathplopped-out-1974?in=daniel-shaw8/sets/uppercase-d-the-lowercases https://instagram.com/theemistershaw818?igshid=wovzb0za58x2 https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064256053705 Please follow us on Youtube,Facebook,Instagram,Twitter,Patreon and at www.gettinglumpedup.com https://linktr.ee/RobRossi Get your T-shirt at https://www.prowrestlingtees.com/gettinglumpedup And https://www.bonfire.com/store/getting-lumped-up/ Subscribe to the channel and hit the like button --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/getting-lumped-up-with-rob-rossi/id1448899708 https://open.spotify.com/show/00ZWLZaYqQlJji1QSoEz7a https://www.patreon.com/Gettinglumpedup #musicproduction #musicvideo #musical #musicislife #musiclover #musically #musician #musiclife #music #musicstudio #musicproducer #musicphotography --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support
Brimming with energy and optimism, Kasper Marott contributes to our #PHANTASYMIX series with a high-energy techno trip full of character. Kasper Marrott has been fascinated with dance music since his teenage years in the Danish countryside, programming music since the age of ten and dreaming of big, bouncing dancefloors. Far removed from the Deadmau5 copycat tunes he made on Fruity Loops throughout his teens, Marrott saw his dream come true some years later, when he became one of a number of DJs spearheading the so-called ‘fast techno’ scene emerging from Copenhagen a few years ago. Alongside the mix, Kasper spoke to John Loveless about the Swedish scene, capturing emotion and the importance of country and folk music. It’s free to evaluate for however long you want, and a personal license is only $60. https://www.reaper.fm/ And Music stuff! Native-Instruments: The main staple of the industry. Many other companies make their instruments specifically for the Kontakt player so grab the free one! Just make sure that when you buy other VSTs for Kontakt that they work with the “Free” version. Sometimes it says “Full version required for this instrument to work!”. After you grab Kontakt 6 free, get the Komplete Start for a ton of awesome sounds! https://www.native-instruments.com/en/catalog/free/ iZotope: A staple for composers as well as sound designers. I use their plugins at work for mixing SFX. RX8 is the photoshop to SFX ya’ll. They have some free stuff sometimes! Currently, Vynl is free! https://www.izotope.com/en/products/vinyl.html Spitfire: A great company creating top of the line orchestral and pad instruments. They have some fairly cheap instruments too! They do not use Kontakt for their instruments, but created their own software to hold their plugins. Spitfire labs: https://labs.spitfireaudio.com/#category=&search=&new=true They put out new instruments for free every month. Sign up and get their LABs VST player to get these sounds and bring in as an FX plugin into your DAW (Reaper or ProTools or Fruity Loops, etc) Spitfire Orchestra: https://www.spitfireaudio.com/bbcso/ Scroll down and there’s a “Get for $49 or FREE!” If you push the “free” button it will ask you to take a survey and then they’ll email you this amazing orchestra plugin for free! I use it and it’s great! Project Sam: Another company creating some great, top of the line VSTs! The Free Orchestra: https://projectsam.com/library-category/the-free-orchestra/ 8Dio: Have a free section and they’ll sometimes have free giveaways! https://8dio.com/instrument-category/on-the-house/ Fruity Loops: This is more like a DAW for music rather than an instrument, but you can get the demo which comes with a lot of free plugins! FLEX is fan-freaking-tastic for synthwave music. Only caveat with the free demo is that you can’t save your work! https://www.image-line.com/
Jansport J has been working working. In 2020 alone he dropped four beat tape projects, and he's already released his first of 2021 in Save My Soul II. He's also been getting amazing placements from the likes of Benny The Butcher, Freddie Gibbs, Snoop, Ty Dolla Sign and many more. His soulful sample chops and swingy drums are a perfect palette for rappers, or wonderful standalone pieces that hold up just as well in headphones as they do knocking in your vehicle speakers. I've known of, and been acquaintances with, J for over 10 years now. During some of the best (and brokest) times of my life, when I was religiously attending every rap show and party I could get into, J was a similar fixture of the scene. I would always see him at shows or on flyers and he's always been a good dude with a big smile. I love talking to people that stuck with it long enough to see it pay off whether or not they ever became a household name, and J's one of those guys. Tune in to hear us talk about being born in Alaska, buying Fruity Loops instead of cracking it, and how he chose beats over raps. Don't miss his 8 minute beat set on our YouTube page. -Lee

John Lagora alias "Tim Wucherpfennig" was born in 1981 in Oberhausen (Ruhr-Area). Thanks to his older brother ,he got infected by electronic music in the age of 11. Listening to old BFBs-based mix tapes of "Steve Mason" was getting his favourite activity. The fast discovery of the darker & harder side of electronic music resulted in starting loving hardcore and rave tunes. With the longlasting consumption of the electronic drug, the beats became slower, softer and more experimental for him. In 1995 he got in possesion of the music software "magix musicmaker 1.0",which animates him to do early attempts at walking in the world of music. But very quick he was bored by premade sample collections and looked for new ways, his solution was like that: "I need synthies!" So he went for it and the program "Fruity Loops" (today known as "FL Studio") put things right for John. After a few years dealing with the new software,he started to do his first own stuff. These early steps resulted in his first releases on respected and well-known netlabels, like alquimia, rumpfunk records and zimmer in the year 2006. John received his first positive resonances on these releases from all over the world. Releasing on Netlabels persisted for 1 year,he wanted to go that way and got encouraged by criticisms. In the time of new media-technology,digital platforms like "Beatport & Juno" gave him the chance to release music on a way more seriously and professionally. First releases appeared, caught on and gave him that kind of feedback,he needed to go on with what he..s in love: making music! In 2008 John could realise the ne plus ultra of every electronic music producer: releasing on the black beauty, the vinyl record!!! His primary dream of doing music was overtaken and he had the ability to play his own records on gigs. In 2012 new Release will be on Mindshake Records and his own 12" Label Seoul Community Lets go. www.theterracepodcast.com
