J. Robbins legacy in the punk/indie rock world was cemented years ago. As the driving creative force behind Jawbox, Burning Airlines, Channels and Office of Future Plans as well as the producer of some of the best records of the early aughts including classics by Jets to Brazil, The Dismemberment Plans, Shiner and The Promise Ring, he has left an indelible mark on the guitar-driven rock of the past thirty+ years. His second solo outing leans more heavily into keyboards than he ever has before but the results are no less impactful. The record is eleven songs of exactly the musical quality and lyrical smarts that we have all come to expect from the man. Today I chat with J. Robbins, that's right, THE J. Robbins that played in D.C. hardcore punk legends Government Issue and then he formed Jawbox and Burning Airlines amongst others. Now he is killing it having gone solo and his latest album Basilisk is getting some serious airtime in my house. To the point where I had to reach out and ask the man, do you like scary movies? We chat all things music and spooky stuff and then dip into the horror masterwork, The Night of the Hunter. J. Robbins Jawbox Government Issue Burning Airlines
Spinning Out (another music podcast) We talk to artists about their favorite albums and go on wild tangents. This week on the pod we're joined by J Robbins of Jawbox. We're talking about Killing Joke's 1985 album, "Night Time". We also chat about genre classifications like post-punk and industrial -- the term supersynthesis, and Killing Joke's influence on J's music. On top of being an amazing musician, J is one of the best producers around, at his Baltimore studio Magpie Cage. If you're looking to record a new album, definitely hit him up. He's probably recorded your favorite records, including Jets to Brazil, Lemuria, The Promise Ring, Hey Mercedes and so many others! Lastly, check out the newest J Robbins solo album, Basilisk out now on Dischord Records. It is with heavy hearts that we deliver this week's episode honoring the passing of a true recording innovator and master of his craft: the amazing Mr. Steve Albini. Our good friend and fellow podcasting brother, Chris L joins us from the awesome Pod Of Thunder podcast. We knew we needed someone who represented the region of the country Steve was from and where he did most of his work; a magical faraway place called Chicagoland. Chris was a musician in the Chicago scene in the 90s when Albini's “production” was soaring, and his recordings were impacting the rock and alternative world hugely. This a tough loss, as Albini's ability to capture the true essence of a real rock n' roll band was second to none.New to InObscuria? Typically, what we do is exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Rest In Peace, Steve. This episode was a lot of fun. Two bands, two songs called Static and three interviews! Ben Merlis makes a triumphant return to the cohost hotseat and we chop it up about so many things on the way to the matter at hand. J Robbins (Jawbox) returns once again, John Mohr (Tar) goes deep on the history and Mike Gitter (xXx Fanzine) takes us home with talk of his signing Jawbox to a major label, and basically what happened right after this 7", along with his abiding love for the band.
On this episode my old cohost, Jeff Kaplan, dusts off his microphone and we sink our teeth into the masterful last original material Jawbox would release on Dischord. Later in the show J Robbins drops by the EOE studio to talk about the tracks and J (G) Ballard.
When heavier-than-anything Louisville band Coliseum began to sense their time together was coming to a close around 2015, band leader and seed-writer Ryan Patterson started to get some glimpses of his next move but was struggling to find his voice within that sylistic change. It was a move from guitar-bass-drums based pummeling into synth-synth-bass-drummachine based songs that were much more mid 80's Dark Wave than Coliseum's post hardcore earth-rattling. Turns out he found his voice in what would become Fotocrime with the help of producer J Robbins (who also produced several Coliseum records) and since 2017 has released a growing catalog of these darkly powerful analog synth-based records, their latest ACCELERATED (Artofffact). Ryan decided to take the Fotocrime recording process into his own hands for Accelerated in his own home studio which has grown to where he can record other projects as needed. It's a huge growth for this seeker, and one consistent with how he has chosen to exist with the help of his own business, SHIRTKILLER.COM which is quite successful in it's own right and gives Ryan an endless supply of subjects to create for and with.
This week's guest, musician Denis Tetreault, brings us the 1999 debut record by Washington D.C. post-punk band Burning Airlines - the blistering Mission: Control! Singer/guitarist J. Robbins and bass player Bill Barbot (Jawbox) along with drummer Peter Moffett (Government Issue) made a gloriously furious racket in the band's short existence, and we're here for it! Songs discussed in this episode: Action (Sweet Cover) - Burning Airlines; Final Solution - Pere Ubu; Cooling Card - Jawbox; Chivaree - Channels; Harden Your Heart - Office Of Future Plans; Burning Airlines Give You So Much More - Brian Eno; Carnival, Wheaton Calling - Burning Airlines; London Calling - The Clash; Pacific 231 - Arthur Honegger; Pacific 231, Scissoring, The Escape Engine, (My Pornograph), Meccano - Burning Airlines; Forget - Mission Of Burma; 3 Sisters, Flood Of Foreign Capital, Crowned - Burning Airlines; Are You Receiving Me? - XTC; Sweet Deals On Surgery, I Sold Myself In, Back Of Love (Echo & The Bunnymen Cover) - Burning Airlines
It's an honor to have J. Robbins on the podcast. As someone that I've enjoyed his music performances in bands like Jawbox and Burning Airlines, to being a part of some of the most influential albums in my life as a producer/engineer, it was hard to not geek out the entire time. He couldn't have been nicer to talk through his life, influences, and his impression on emo and music making today. Be sure and check out his website JRobbins.net to learn more about the projects he's been a part of and his own music that he's continuing to make. Learn more about your ad choices. Today on the podcast are the members of Braid talking about their 25th Anniversary and tour for Frame & Canvas. I thought it'd be funny to interview them in order asking similar questions about the album, their feelings on resisting this record, the remixing of the album from J Robbins, and touring. What's amazing is everyone gave different answers and memories. Plus, the secret gem of the episode is worth listening through the whole thing I promise you. I had each person describe the other band members in one word. The answers they give are insightful, sweet, and hilarious. First up is Todd Bell, then Bob Nanna, Chris Broach, then finishing up with Damon Atkinson. What's amazing listening back to these interviews is how different everyone is but how they need a vote of 4 to decide anything as Braid. They're back, ready to rock again. Lastly, please stay for Damon's stories which had me laughing and a great set closer to the episodes. We hadn't spoken before for the pod, so we had a little extra time to chat. This was an absolute blast to do and put together. Thanks to Polyvinyl, Tito and the dudes for being game to have some fun.
Wow, we are really deep in middle of a streak of classic Dischord releases. This episode we go under the hood of Jawbox's first full length with Bill Barbot on second guitar and vocals. This is a portrait of a band firing on all cylinders. Join Drew and I in this conversational vortex. Later in the episode, guitarist and main songwriter J Robbins stops by the EOE studios to discuss this record, the times and wax philosophic on the meaning of music.
Note from Pepper: This episode is special for me. J Robbins is my favorite producer and I never in a million years thought I would get the chance to have a conversation with him. Yay! Robbins began his career as a bassist for Government Issue, and has also led five of his own bands: Jawbox, Rollkicker Laydown, Burning Airlines, Channels, and Office of Future Plans. He was a touring bassist for Scream and played bass on the debut 7" from Jack Potential, which was issued by DeSoto Records in 1993. More recently he played bass in Report Suspicious Activity with Vic Bondi, which released two albums on Alternative Tentacles Records. In 2011, Robbins, along with Kerosene 454's drummer and fellow Channels bandmate Darren Zentek, bassist Brooks Harlan, and guitarist/cellist Gordon Withers, released an EP under the name Office of Future Plans. The band, who had been playing since 2009 and released an album on Dischord Records in November 2011, but as of October 2016, they are not together anymore. In May 31, 2019, J. Robbins released his first solo album, Un-Becoming. Robbins is also a successful producer and engineer for bands such as Ponytail, Clutch (and side project The Bakerton Group), Jets to Brazil, Hey Mercedes, Shiner, Mock Orange, The Pauses, The Life and Times, Miranda Sound, Time Spent Driving, Faraquet, The Dismemberment Plan, The Monorchid, The Promise Ring, Dwindle, Pilot to Gunner, Paint It Black, None More Black, Jawbreaker, Discount, Against Me!, Goodbye Soundscape, Modern Life is War, Stapleton, Murder By Death, mewithoutYou, Black Cross (hardcore), Lemuria, Caustic Casanova, The Sword, Debate (from Sao Paulo, Brazil), Coliseum, Hammer No More the Fingers, Small Brown Bike, Broadcaster, Noyo Mathis and Nakatomi Plaza. The Pauses released their first album, A Cautionary Tale, in 2011 through New Granada Records. The band recorded the album with producer J. Robbins of Jawbox fame in Baltimore, MD, at The Magpie Cage. Lead singer Tierney Tough stopped by Thunderlove Studios to chat with Geoff and Keith about The Pauses and take a deep dive into their second album - Unbuilding - from 2018. Like its predecessor, it was produced by J. Robbins of Jawbox. Said BrooklynVegan of the release: “…it's got a little of the off-kilter mathy guitars of the DC/Dischord scene that birthed J Robbins, plus bouncy Mates of States-y synths, and singer Tierney Tough has a delightfully dry delivery that brings to mind Speedy Ortiz or Liz Phair.” - can confirm. A great interview was had. Give it a listen, you'll see... and you'll fall in love with The Pauses. Just ask Geoff. We had the pleasure of interviewing Her Head's On Fire over Zoom video.Indie rock, of all stripes, is far too long in the tooth —and the classic back catalogs far too crowded— fo half measures: If we are to have new "left of the dial" songs in an age where the wry cleverness and heart-on-sleeve (or heart-patch-on-messenger-bag?) vulnerability of yore have listed into a kind of sardonic nihilism, then those songs must be full of that strange alchemic mix of chords and melodies that make hearts flutter and souls soar—they must be incandescent; bright flares that light us up and burn away the pretenses and bullshit the world circa 2022 seems determined to encase us in.Enter Her Head's On Fire — a fiery, enlivening quartet with an unfuckwithable pedigree (Saves the Day, Garrison, Small Brown Bike, The Bomb, Gay for Johnny Depp) that serves as the DNA for a 10-track genetic splicing debut full-length, College Rock & Clove Cigarettes, that is not only simultaneously familiar and transcendent but also very, very good. If you ever thrilled to the anthems of Samiam, pounded the steering wheel to Superchunk, reveled in the waves of Dinosaur Jr's melodic fuzz, gladly went over to the Farside, got down to some Elvis Costello, or can remember where you were the first time you heard Sense Field…well, then Her Head's On Fire's heart-seeking post-post-hardcore, "emo"tive rock stemwinders will be the best thing to happen to you in a very long time.Building on the promise of an auspicious bow via last year's well-received split with living legend J. Robbins, College Rock & Clove Cigarettes is a beguiling and powerful statement: Her Head's On Fire has your number and a container of clean sonic kerosine. All you have to do is follow the light, open up to the real, and find your way back to the messy, anthem-inspiring glory of love once again. We want to hear from you! This episode we talk about the 7' that ushered in what a lot of folks would call Jawbox's golden period. As usual, we find a way to talk about two tracks for two and a half hours. Vocalist/guitarist J Robbins joins us for the second half of the show to talk about these recordings and his thoughts on everything from songwriting inspirations to leather vests and Soundgarden. Buckle up, it's a rocking ride!
When drummer Zach Barocas began to play with his legendary band Jawbox again in late 2017 to rehearse for some reunion shows, he wasn't sure exactly how that might play out given they hadn't been in the same room together for about 20 years. Turns out, it went so well they're still playing shows now and in fact will be playing Riot Fest in September 2022. Zach has been creatively busy with his bands The Up On In, The Bells, and now New Freedom Sounds with some guys like J Robbins, Gordon Withers and Tom Cisneros that makes music that is related to but doesn't live in the same house as standard jazz. It's a very fresh take on that medium built and arranged by Zach over the pandemic months, at the same time that he and his wife have opened a boutique stationary shop in Brooklyn called Measure Twice that has become a...calling card for Zach.
This Episode is an exceptionally important one for us. J Robbins (Government Issue, Jawbox, Burning Airlines, Channels, Solo) is a songwriting genius and great influence on many. His personal performing credits hold a close first place to his producing credits for bands like Clutch, Texas is the Reason, The Promise Ring and many more. J owns Magpie Cage Studios in Baltimore, MD. We get a chance to discuss his first love of Classical music and orchestration, being a introverted nerdy dude turned role model for the Post Hardcore scene and how his gear shaped the tones of the records we love.
We have been building up to hall of fame status, and this one is just that. A concise and electric conversation with a true hero of mine, J Robbins. We discuss his musicianship and lyrics, spanning 4 decades of absolutely unimpeachable songs, all executed with precision and might. We dive into the political sphere, production, touring in mid life, and the all encompassing shadow of time. All music is owned by the artist, and was used with permission.
Pete Moffett has been working in the music industry as a drummer in the late 80's with bands like punkrock-forefathers Government Issue and also some guy named J Robbins, in the early 90's with Wool and Franz and Pete Stahl, and then again with J Robbins in the late 90's with Burning Airlines which rose mightily from the ashes of Jawbox. But his longest tenure has been that of touring drum technician for artists like Alanis Morrisette and Kelly Clarkson, and when this interview took place he was in Europe with Whitesnake and the Scorpions as he's tech'ing for legendary metal drummer Tommy Aldridge. It's a great catchup with a prolific bizzer and an all-around sweet dude.

On this week's Talkhouse Podcast, we've got two veterans of ‘90s rock who went on to form bands that referenced air travel in their name and whose biggest bands both start with Jaw: Blake Schwarzenbach of Jawbreaker and J. Robbins of Jawbox. Sorry if that was confusing, I'll clear it up for you. Blake Schwarzenbach was and is the singer and guitarist of the band Jawbreaker, which had its initial run from 1986 until 1996, at which time they acrimoniously splintered after longtime fans turned their backs on 1995's Dear You, mostly because these dogmatic listeners were mad that the band had signed to a major label. These things were a big deal then, which seems kind of quaint now. History was incredibly kind to both Jawbreaker and Dear You, so much so that in 2017 they reformed to headline Chicago's massive Riot Fest, and they've been playing together on and off ever since. In the intervening years, Schwarzenbach also played in other great bands, most notably Jets to Brazil, which is what I was referencing earlier. Jawbreaker is on tour now, and they're bringing along some of their favorite bands to open, which brings us to… Jawbox, which followed a sorta similar trajectory to Jawbreaker. They came together in the late ‘80s, released a couple of incredible albums for a respected independent label, and then moved into the big leagues, with all the baggage and joy that might bring. Jawbox split in 1997, and Robbins went on to form Burning Airlines—are you seeing a pattern here?—but Jawbox reconvened in 2019. Those two bands certainly aren't the beginning and end of Robbins' amazing contributions to the world of music, though: Prior to Jawbox he was in Government Issue—you'll hear them referred to as GI in this chat—he's served as producer for a number of bands over the years, including Jets to Brazil, the Promise Ring, the Dismemberment Plan, Against Me, and other bands that make my 1990s heart sing. I hope you'll notice I haven't said emo once yet. In this conversation, J. and Blake talk about what it feels like to play shows together again after all these years—and all this pandemic. Blake compliments J. on his psychedelic guitar playing, and J. isn't sure what to make of that. And we learn—I think for the first time—that Jawbox briefly considered calling themselves Jawbreaker, before J. discovered Jawbreaker's first single at a record store and crossed it off his list. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to J. Robbins and Blake Schwarzenbach for chatting. This episode was produced by Myron Kaplan, and the Talkhouse theme is composed and performed by the Range.

YO! Honestly, with a record as big as this one...did you really think we were only going to do one episode? For this time, we spoke not only with guitarist Norman Brannon and bassist Scott Winegard - we also had producer J Robbins (Jawbox) on with us to talk about his experience with the band. Special bidip bo to our sponsor War Records. Hit up www.war-rec.com and grab new releases by Berthold City, Bent Blue & more. GO!
J. Robbins rules. As singer/guitarist of Jawbox (among many others) and producer of Gabe's favorite records — J. has made a legendary (and envy-inducing) career out of perfectly balancing the visceral and the cerebral with a series of post-punk-post-hardcore masterpieces that have only grown in stature and influence. Anyway, J. is a hero to us — and on this episode we talk to him about: John Williams' birthday, channeling your inner Fleming Rasmussen, Bob Mould's guitar sound, how to bake tapes, playing bass in Government Issue and Scream, Texas Is The Reason, trying to save the Pony Express Record masters, Get Back (again), Killing Joke, the upcoming shows with Jawbreaker, and Jawbox's 3 night residency in New York. Did we mention that J. rules?

As broadcast on December 2, 2021 with plenty of extra live action for your podcast ride. Tonight we note a remarkable feat by Fela Kuti's eldest Femi Kuti back in 2017 to take Kenny G out of the Guinness Book of World Records to begin the process. After that, not a lot out in the funk & soul world this week that's new, but we did catch a new Salaam Remi remix of Marvin Gaye along with a new album from Abdullah Ibrahim as well. For our 2nd hour AMPED feature, Dan Lloyd had a good amount going on in new music for so late in the year, with a BBC live album from Green Day due out along with new tunes from Wet Leg, Frank Turner, and The Wonder Years, the latter of whom are some new holiday cheer.#feelthegravityTracklisting:Part I (00:00)Femi Kuti – If Them Want To HearPAINT – Tah FardahDr. Lonnie Smith feat Iggy Pop – Move Your HandMike Nyoni & Born Free – Come Back To MeBilly Brooks – Forty Days Part II (31:39)Junior Murvin – Police & Thieves Junior Murvin – Cool Out SonMarvin Gaye – Sad Tomorrows (Salaam Remi remix)The Undisputed Truth – Take A Vacation from Life (And Visit Your Dreams)Abdullah Ibrahim – In-TempoTrevor Lawrence Jr feat Terrace Martin – Good Trouble Part III (59:22)Eels – The MagicFrank Turner – MirandaWet Leg – Oh NoKurstin / Grohl – StayThe Beatles – Get Back Part IV (89:25)Miles Kane – Nothing's Ever Gonna Be Good Enough ft. When Rigs Of Dad started in IG, musician Ross Hurt had no idea he would have 85k followers in a scant few years. He's parlayed that into the excellent R.O.D. podcast and continues his musical journey started with his band Black Clouds in DC into his current project Burial Waves and their new EP Holy Ground (Dark Operative). It's a sea change in sound for him and Matt Dowling (Deleted Scenes), Jimmy Rhodes (Black Clouds), Kyle Durfey (Pianos Become The Teeth) and Kevin Hilliard (Caverns) as they cast a wide net in their new found dynamic range, as tracked by J Robbins and mixed by Paul Malinowski. In this episode of SPOKE, I caught up with J. Robbins and we covered a lot of ground—from his early, insecure days in DC's punk rock greats Government Issue to the decade long career of Jawbox, there's a lot to unpack here. @jawboxofficial --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/scott-crawford3/message
Return-guest and songwriter Tierney Tough survived and in fact thrived during the Covid era by hunkering down and creating, starting with a series of covers with her angular pop band The Pauses on the Quarantunes EP, which led straight into the creation of her own solo EP, A Farce To Be Reckoned With. It's a personal high-water mark for this bassist and pianist as she reckons with her life in Florida, first as a native of Orlando and now Gainesville and it's impact on her life and times. We stare down thorny topics like Taco Bell, the risk vs reward of playing live shows now, especially in FL, and why J Robbins of Jawbox is the absolute perfect producer.
J. Robbins: legendary producer and legendary guitarist for many legendary bands including Jawbox, Burning Airlines, his work with Clutch, and so much more. J. also happens to be one of the biggest film dorks/bassists around, which makes him more than qualified to be a guest on this show. We talk about film scores, specifically movies that are incredibly enhanced by the musical contributions. Everyone from John Williams, to Jerry Goldsmith, to Hans Zimmer, to Johann Johannson, to Clint Mansell, to Trent Reznor, and many many many more. Films like Jaws, Psycho, Inception, and beyond get discussed in great detail about what makes their scores so important. If you are a casual fan or a film obsessive, you will love to hear three dudes (whose only qualifications are playing bass) chat about all things film in this very special episode of Film Basics with Bassists That Love Film. Just because we're over forty doesn't mean we don't have shit to say anymore! Boysetsfire singer Nathan Gray has always been one to speak his mind on and off stage, and make no mistake, he's still as politically active and outspoken today as ever! So naturally, in this episode we talk about current politics. But Nathan also tells me how Boysetsfire started in the mid 90s, got pretty big in 2000 and continue playing sporadically as a band until today. Nathan is in the middle of producing his third solo album, so we touch on the interesting difference between playing and writing in a band vs. in a solo project, as well as the pros and cons of playing cover versions, working with producers J Robbins and Brian McTernan for his new album, the importance of having a creative outlet in life especially as we're getting older, and a lot more!
Episode 48. Questions about the body and (non) gender identity with Sam J Robbins. “They can handle gay, but they can’t handle they.” .This episode is with the beautiful Sam Robbins from New Jersey….. We speak about the body, the yoga body, the dance body and body awareness, and also about the notion of gender being a social construct, but also that our bodies are as real as they can be, gender is a real thing. Sam shared their experiences growing up in the world of dance, being given more masculine based roles, or sometimes even roles Sam feels they didn’t deserve just because Sam was perceived as a “man”. Plus we discuss their own work, the future of stage and performance in New York City and the age of zoom…… .Please listen, share and care, leave a review, we appreciate it so much! .The blog this episode is based on: https://www.onstageblog.com/features/questions-about-the-bodyFind Sam here. @sam.j.robbinsPlus I am referring to Alfie’s episode. Very few mortals have accomplished as much as J. Robbins. Dude is legendary on stage, behind the board, over beers, and beyond. Jawbox bassist/icon/educator Kim Coletta teaches Allen about the politics of moving from rocker to teacher, how best to drop your kid off at college, the origins of Jawbox, and why she thought J Robbins was Bryan Baker for months.
As a member of influential bands such as Jawbox, Burning Airlines, and Channels, J. Robbins exhibits an exceptional gift for unorthodox yet unforgettable vocal melodies counterbalanced with jagged, angular guitar hooks. For over 20 years, he's built a parallel career as an in-demand producer for artists such as: Faraquet, Braid, and The Promise Ring. This is one of our most emotionally intense and life affirming episodes.

Without the influence of J. Robbins, the indie-rock landscape from the 90's through today would be missing a specific tonality, seeped heavily in both nuance and bite. From his songwriting and musicianship in bands like Jawbox, Channels and Burning Airlines to his production/engineering work with The Promise Ring, Jets to Brazil, Texas Is The Reason, Shiner, The Dismemberment Plan and a slew of others, he's a widely respected architect of the sound we know as post-punk. Hot off the recent announcement of Jawbox's upcoming summer tour (the band's first in over 20 years), J. discusses his early love for orchestral soundtracks, how he feels the Jawbox of 2019 can be a better band than they were during their initial run, and why his one-off collaboration a decade ago with Death Cab for Cutie's Chris Walla for NPR remains one of his lifelong favorite experiences. Online, you can visit www.jawbox.band for their schedule, social media, merchandise and discography, as well as jrobbins.bandcamp.com.
Chapter 151: "All In On This" ...as read by Jolie Lindholm Jolie moved to Florida for college and sang on a project for a guy named Chris Carrabba. You might have heard of him. That connection led her to fronting her first band, The Rocking Horse Winner. Chapter 143: "Learning To Swim By Being Thrown Into The Pool" ...as read by Jack O'Shea Jack's very first, "real" studio experience was with J Robbins. Not a bad way to start! Bayside completed their contract with Victory Records without any drama, came through the other side of a horrific van crash, and is still making today! Chapter 133: "1998 Looked Great" ...as read by Bob Nanna, Chris Broach, Todd Bell, Damon Atkinson, Chris Bickert, Matt Lunsford and J Robbins (whew!) If you know this show then you probably know that Bryan and I are Braid fans. (That's Bob singing the theme song at the end.) Well back on April 7th, 1998 Braid had an album released on Polyvinyl Records called "Frame And Canvas". This is an important album to me and quite a few people, seeing on how this makes the top indie/emo albums of all time list again and again. I was able to assemble all four members of Braid, their roadie Bicks, Matt Lunsford (head of Polyvinyl) and J Robbins of Jawbox (produced and mixed) all together under one podcast roof to discuss this album. I hope you enjoy this. And again, this would not have been glued together without the wizardry of Bryan Patton. Thanks to everyone involved. If you like this, hang in there. Oh my God. I thought I'd have to tape up my ribs. Jason Hamacher of Frodus is about as unique as they come. Drummer of Frodus, Regents, Zealot (and about a dozen other bands you've heard of) joins me and guest host Seth W for TWO podcasts! This is the first of the two. I tried to make this one wrap up but Jason...is Jason. Story after story after story made me so thankful I didn't hit the stop button. Hamacher talks Frodus, his land breaking and nothing short of historic relationship with Syria, we get heavy Christian theology, the super touching story of Jason's life from 1999-2003 that changed all the directions, massaging Ben from Dillinger Escape Plan...just hang on. One of the busiest human beings we know...Dan Frome afforded us a little time to talk. Get this...when we called him a while back to record, he said "I'll have to get back to you, the band I'm running sound for is about to do Letterman." Yeah. This is the same guy who recorded the Unteachers 7" and some tracks on "A Human Comedy". He now plays bass for Roomrunner and just recorded with J Robbins. (J keeps coming up...anybody know him? We should talk to him.) Dan started running sound for Future Islands about 1 & 1/2 years ago. This new gig has dragged him around the world, Coachella (funny Jared Leto story), David Letterman, just insane. Hear the stories of his super secret recording studio in Baltimore, the legend of that space which has degrees touching Shudder To Think, Ted Nicely, TV On The Radio and other early Dischord folks.
