In episode 145 Steph co-hosts with Connie Miller of Montecito Travel and they tackle your probing and ever-helpful questions. 1. I would love a conversation about how to execute charging fees when different trips take such a different amount of time. Some people know what they want - some don't. I've been experimenting and every person I've given an hourly fee (I've tested it at $75 and $100) and my estimated timeline, they've passed on my services. So I haven't gotten any fees in the six months I've been working on this. I've had some great success, but I have also wasted a ton of time with people shopping me and then taking my itinerary and booking it elsewhere to save $20 (especially on FIT trips). I've got to take control of my time and energy and make sure I'm spending time with the right people. But I have no idea how to actually implement fees and what a reasonable rate/package is. And I don't want to scare off people who could become great clients. --Kristina C. 2. Are Interline rates accessible by any travel agent? Hosting agency? I'm a newbie here looking for a HA -- majority of friends, family and neighbors are airline employees, so this would be a rather large target market for me (and frankly my niche in the cruise market). I'm familiar with Perx/ID90/Interliner, etc-- but can a new agent under a hosting agency access these rates? Or is there some sort of authorization process an agent needs to obtain in order to book these rates for clients? –Sean R. 3. Can you help me understand the technology needed to be a travel agent? What is most important if you are on a budget? –Jamie T. Hello and welcome to episode 173 of the ACPG Podcast. This week Ben is zooming with the delightful Willie J Healey. They talk about his new album Bunny, touring with the Arctic Monkeys and Jamie T, working with Yala records and more. Thank you to Jay for setting up the interview. And thank you to Willie for his time and rearranging time for a clash in Ben's diary. We have a special artist in Willie and, as I mention, new album ‘Bunny' is something of a new dawn for him. Recorded in NYC with producer Loren Humphrey (Florence + The Machine, Arctic Monkeys, Lana Del Rey) he stepped out of his comfort zone, pushed himself to be more honest with what he wanted to do, and ultimately discovered that there was a freedom to be found in embracing that honesty. There is a maturity and warmth to the songs here, whether he's pondering the cost of ambition (‘Dreams') or revisiting themes of love (‘Sure Feels Good'), contentment (‘Woke Up Smiling') and appreciation (‘Thank You'). It's the sound of Willie at the happiest he's been in a while, and I think this comes from being able to strike a perfect balance between determination to create what he wants, and knowing when to accept that – whatever style of album he makes – it will always have signposts to the parts of himself that he can't change.  Sliding into new musical territory, he welcomes hypnotic grooves, gospel harmonies and brass flourishes to support his own organic, understated falsetto. Fusing soul, rock and R&B, ‘Bunny' is Willie J Healey waking up a dormant side of his musical world and rolling with it.

Been a while since I uploaded an episode of this podcast – Christmas and New Year kind of got in the way. I think as a historical document, it makes for interesting listening, and there's previously unheard interviews with Biffy Clyro, Mumford & Sons, Jamie T, Slash, Muse, Kaya Scodelario from Skins, Lily Allen, James Buckley from The Inbetweeners and Russell Tovey from Being Human. The Terrace Podcast Welcomes this weeks guest : Yousef with a very groovy set recorded live from Space Ibiza in the Carl Cox (Revolution Party) The new decade sees Yousef consolidating his status as an international DJ, Producer, Club Promoter and Music aficionado with ever greater impact. Running one of Europe's premier clubnights co-exists alongside manning a record label of the same name, whilst his reputation as a DJ grows with increasing stature and a constantly escalating global calendar. His productions continue to leave an indelible imprint on the world; the release of second artist album ‘Indigo Child', the follow-up to 2009's impressive LP ‘A Collection of scars and situations', is scheduled for later on in 2011. A hugely expansive collection much like its predecessor, it marks a return to Circus Recordings after Yousef took a twelve month sabbatical to work exclusively with a select band of record labels, including Saved, Cocoon, Harthouse, and Monique Musique. The return will be kick-started with the release of one 8 track EPs entitled ‘Yousef's Circus Reworks'. The focus is simple; transformations of several productions with the Circus dancefloor specifically in mind, Jamie T, Fourtet, Giles Peterson, Moby and Sven Vath among the producers contributing material for Yousef to re-jig alongside his own peerless ‘Come Home'. Each track represents a certain time of the night or certain room; painting a personal musical projection of what Circus means to Yousef and an ideological snapshot of the clubnight's musical DNA. The event is quite the beast. Now in its ninth year, it's quickly moved from being the best night in Liverpool to one of the most talked about and well respected soirees on the continent, the flagship for the refurbished and Funktion One equipped Masque. The high profile nature has seen shows with Planet E, Bedrock, Meganite and Teutonic techno institution Cocoon, not to mention a superlative collaboration with the BBC for the 500th Essential Mix. Loco dice, Pete Tong Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Sven Vath, Ricardo Vilalobos, Laurent Garnier, Luciano, Carl Craig, Adam Beyer, John Digweed, Davide Squillace, Raresh, Dennis Ferrer, Heidi, Nic Fanciulli, Tim Green and countless others have all played for Yousef and his party in the last 12 months. Many more are slanted for future shows in 2011 and beyond as it nears an unprecedented ten years of rave carnage. And Yousef continues to push further ground as a DJ. 2011 will see his second year as one of the residents at Carl Cox presents... at Space, arguably the internationally renowned nightclub's finest party of the season. A recent tour of South America saw a consolidation of his status as one of the premier foreign DJs for the continent (a debut at Warung Beach a particular highlight), and he remains a huge draw from the sun kissed shores of Melbourne to Miami to the sweat soaked basements of Manchester and Munich. One thing's for sure; Yousef will continue to leave a huge personal footprint upon electronic music both behind the scenes and behind the decks of the world's finest clubs, whilst creating the musical soundtracks that pulsate through their clubber's ears. He simply knows no other w www.theterracepodcast.com

Born in Zimbabwe 25 years ago, Tinashé is a prodigious pop talent whose accessible guitar and keys driven future classics take gleeful inspiration from everyone from Arctic Monkeys and the Bloc Party to Jack Penate, Jamie T, Paul Simon and original afro-beat sounds.  Filtering his own life experience into supremely addictive chart-friendly tuneage, Tinashé exacts a lightness of touch that means the results are always euphoric and life-affirming. Take the strutting guitars and elegant strings on the delirious new single also called ‘Saved', which was written after Tinashé was accosted by a particularly forthright tramp who thought he was an angel.   He wrote and produced his debut album, with assistance from engineer Cenzo Townshend (Bloc Party, Late Of The Pier, Florence and the Machine). Front and centre is Tinashé's signature vocal, instantly recognisable and easily sliding from giddy and urgent, as on the yearning love song ‘If You Say So', to lived-in and careworn, especially on the end-of-his-tether ballad ‘Decency'.  Tinashé has more than proved his talent as a live performer, with a host of thrillingly addictive shows, supporting the likes of Ellie Goulding, I Blame Coco, Marina & the Diamonds and Kate Nash and her new riot grrrl band The Receeders.

Miami Sessions with DJ Yousef - M.U.M. Episode 153 - Miami Underground Movement The new decade sees Yousef consolidating his status as an international DJ, Producer, Club Promoter and Music aficionado with ever greater impact. Last year saw him achieve a first, the release of his debut artist album - A Collection of Scars & Situations’ finally laying down on wax a watermark of his effervescent personality. It showcased the different dynamics to his sound as a performer - heavy support from the usual rag tag ensemble of dance music greats; Sasha, Danny Tengalia, Nic Fanciulli, Carl Cox, Steve Lawler, Radio Slave and Nick Curly among them.  ‘A Collection of Scars & Situations’ was more than just your typical DJ led collection of bangers. They are catered for of course, most resplendently by the pulsating tech house monster ‘Legacy’ (bolstered by a superb archaic vocal from Derrick Carter) and the Beyer - esque ‘Equilibrium’. But it’s the haunting electronica of ‘Birthday Thoughts’ and ‘A Moment of Clarity’ that gave the album its gritty edge, two bleak almost dystopian efforts which channel the darker undercurrents of electronic music perfectly, DJs, clubbers and the Music media were universal in the praise.  “Legacy” was picked up for global single release by Renaissance. It garnered plays all over specialist dance radio worldwide (most notably John Digweed, Carl Cox and BBC Radio One’s Pete Tong), as well the coveted DMC single of the week; it was dubbed “one of the stand out tracks of 2009”. When Yousef was asked to contribute an essential mix from the world renowned Creamfields, he set about remaking the track into the ‘Terrace Edit’, taking the track into a newer and fresher direction (two further ep’s are set to drop for renaissance in 2010).  It continued the mutual love affair between Yousef and Germany, the hub of worldwide electronic music. He signed two new EP’s to Mannheim’s premier league label Plastic City, and after season long support from Sven Vath, “Come home” was released on the world’s most followed electronic music brand Cocoon. It blew up, cutting across the spectrum of house and techno, making ‘Essential new tune’ on Pete Tong’s Radio One show, with consistent support from John Digweed, Laurent Garnier and of course Vath himself. A certain dj names Sasha fell in love with the composition so much he asjked to remix it, which he has in fine style (out on cocoon in mid 2010). Yousef was then signed to Berlins’ leading DJ agency WILDE for his bookings in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, while he remains in the hands of Safehouse management for the rest of the world, also home to Carl Cox.  The international love has never been stronger for Yousef. The first international DJ to play the troubled nation of Syria. Ibiza, with its arcane hedonism and wild party ethos has always served as an adequate stomping ground for his cross genre grooves. And of course he’s back there this year... with a vengeance! South America has also shown a stronger allure for Yousef, with further ground being broken in Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil increasing his continental lustre. A recent 6 date tour on Indonesia showed how far yousefs reach is getting. Closer to home, he clocked up his first London Residency by inking a monthly deal at Matter, the brainchild of Fabric impresario Keith Reilly. Matter NYE saw another iconic Yousef DJ set, taking over from Vath at 2am for the inaugural Cocoon party and delivering a three hour onslaught of fierce and brutal house and techno to a 3500 capacity club.  In 2009 yousef remixed Dj Sneak, Fergie and Tobii to devastating effect. 2010 has already seen an earth-shattering remix of Moby’s ‘Wait for me’ completed, plus his touch gifted to Gilles Peterson’s Havana Band project and new kid “Teva” with yousef’s floor devastating circus rework of “you cant teach this”. He remixed two UK legends (X-Press 2’s ‘Say What’ and Fatboy Slim’s ‘Local Town’, the latter featuring rasp voiced rudeboy Jamie T), whilst Nic Fanciulli and his Saved Imprint continue to show their love, with the aforementioned album’s ‘I Suggest’ out now with the superb ‘Firecracker’ on the flip one of two 2010 ep’s for nic’s imprint. The other “my explanation / dis information” already championed by tong on his rather well known radio weekly as well as support from underground house dons Rebbot and Nick Curly among many others. Further Eps for renaissance and debuts on carl cox’s Intec and seminal (vath started) Harthouse records both follow this year… Of course with a follow up on cocoon too…  Yousef’s own Circus Recordings also notched up a year of releases since launching in 2008, churning out eight Yousef singles which have illustrated the madness and hedonism of the club he has created.  Yousefs monthly event celebrated seven years at the apex of Liverpool’s club scene in September last year and he is still pulling line-ups together that makes the accountants balk and the clubbers froth at the mouth. House music at its kaleidoscopic best, heavyweight names such as Laurent Garnier, Luciano, Loco Dice, Dubfire, and Eric Prydz have faced off with the of the young upstarts of the underground like; Jamie Jones, Tim Green, Sebo K and Davide Squillace have been amongst others for debut Liverpool shows. Oh and they got their thug on with Cocoon, bringing Vath and his imperial hedonism to Liverpool for the first time ever in a scintillating party that peaked on every sensory element. There’s little the club night hasn’t done or booked, and with this year already seeing return slots for John Digweed and Derrick Carter, plus debuts for Heidi, Guy Gerber and the irrepressible groove icon Ricardo Vilalobos, there’s seems little left for them to prove. So, just when things couldn’t peak any further for circus Radio One were looking for a club to host the 500th essential mix party. They considered every major club worldwide, circus was (in the words of radio one) the only choice…. Yousef and his long lasting partner Richard went to work, pulling in Richie Hawtin, Sasha, Aeroplane, of course Pete Tong and yousef himself. A 4 hour live global broadcast from circus in its original 1100 capacity club followed. Circus’ finest hour…? Maybe, we’ve thought that before.  It’s this process of constant evolution rather than reinvention which has characterised Yousef’s career, and kept him at the forefront of promoters’ thoughts across the globe. And there’s the small matter of him running the London marathon, raising cash for CALM and showcasing his serious edge to the party reputation he’s always encased. Record Label Owner and Internationally renowned club promoter, it’s a far cry from the excess which defined wilder youth, confirming his professionalism and dedication to the acid house dream.  Whether criss-crossing the globe with his arsenal of varied sounds or impregnating his own individual aural histrionics on wax, Yousef is stamping his identity on dance music and leaving a lasting impression. There’s few who come close in terms of dedication or in the variance of approach, Yousef hits each and every base with alarming regularity. And the best part yet? The journey has only just begun... it’s now a big cliché but, undeniably, but, 2010 really is Yousef’s year. www.yousef.co.uk
