POPULARITY
With his dynamic, powerful voice, it is through God's grace that gospel sensation Kevin Vasser is on a path to immeasurable greatness. Vasser's robust, energetic, incomparable sound, combined with his willingness to share his testimony to help others, makes him one of the most uplifting and talented artists the gospel industry has experienced in a while. As the son of a preacher and with influences such as Sam Cooke, Joe Ligon, and Marvin Winans, singing has always been part of the equation for Vasser. He joined the church choir at age five and then formed the group Youth Edition with his older brother and two cousins while only in middle school. With his father as their manager, the group sang around Chicago for years, entering competitions and talent shows. Later, they released two projects, the second under their new name Kinzmen. While connected to the group, Kinzmen, Vasser continues to answer the call. After releasing two solo projects, he returns with his 3rd project, “I Believe.” This project is not just new music but introduces a new group and movement - Kevin Vasser and BLVRS (Believers). This lively group of singers is centered and focused on helping others in their area of believing and giving others the push needed to keep believing. While preparing for this latest project, God instructed Vasser to ask those attending to do one thing: BELIEVE. Vasser's belief and obedience to God opened the door to receiving a kidney transplant. Thirteen years ago, Vasser was diagnosed with kidney failure and underwent kidney dialysis three times a week. Finally, the day before his live recording, he received a call that a match had been found. The next night, he completed the recording and received a miracle! Vasser's relationship with God strengthens each day, even in the face of adversity. He has loving support, encouragement, and praise from his wife, Erica, and their two children, Khyra and Kevin Jr. He includes his family in every facet of his ministry. The extra time spent with them helps him to grow more spiritually. With everything God has blessed Vasser to do musically, he still stands firm in his original call to preach, teach and share the good news of Jesus Christ. Preaching his first sermon at 12, Vasser is an ordained elder today. When he is not preaching, recording, or performing, Vasser leads the Worship & Arts Ministry at the legendary Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, shepherded by Pastor Reginald Wayne Sharpe Jr. and served under Pastor Emeritus Charles Jenkins. For the past 21 years, this church has become such an essential staple in his life. In addition, Vasser has been featured in multiple musical recordings with Fellowship Chicago Choir and has received numerous Stellar Awards. Because he is a hard-working, professional, undeniably gifted artist, and a faithful believer in God's glory, whatever it is Vasser chooses to do, he will do so with grace, dignity, and passion. “I am a person of strong faith. It is important to stay true to who you are and hear the voice and follow the direction of God. I want to be what God wants me to be,” he says. “I don't want to please man. I want to make sure I please God. And as long as I am connected to Him and in a place where I can hear Him speaking and follow His leadership, I think I'll be in good standing.”

A Sunday morning sermon by Pastor Brett Deal. The other morning driving up 95, my thoughts were running about as fast as my minivan (which between you and me was probably a little too fast for useful thinking or the congested traffic). Wisely, I eased up on the pedal and put on a gospel playlist. Over the soft hum of the organ, the voice of the singer spoke the words of found in Nehemiah 8.6: “And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God, and all the people answered, “Amen, Amen,” lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.” With each invitation, I found my heart singing “Amen!” This beautiful song, composed by Andrae Crouch and sung by Marvin Winans, is an invitation for all of us to step back from the hectic sprint of our minds and the hustle and bustle of our days. Every stanza and chorus is an invitation to stand with Ezra and Nehemiah and the Israelites gathered home in Jerusalem. Every line, a new chance to agree with their words of worship. Ezra blessed the Lord and the people said, “Amen!” This isn't just a long ago celebration of who God has been, but a present place of agreement for who God is right here and right now. It is also a prayer packed with hope and faith, rejoicing in who God forever will be! Here and now let us agree and say, "Amen!” Truly, if there is—and I know there is—“any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2.1-4). Beloved, with the Apostle Paul, and the great cloud of witnesses, let the Church say, “Amen!”

When it comes to making a proper evaluation, one has to have a set standard or criteria that is universally agreed upon. The criteria that were set were vocality (ability to sing), catalog, and impact. When it comes to these pillars there are only 10 names that crack the list. You would be surprised who gets left out. Is it Marvin Winans or Luther Vandross? Enjoy this wildly entertaining episode featuring the homie @stev0_speakzz as we debate each other's top 10 list. Growing up, AR Base came to learn this truth from a very early age. Born as the seventh child, he was often disregarded as the “shy boy.” In school, he struggled to learn new concepts, and it was from this obstacle that he began writing catchy songs as a way to memorize facts. Little did he realize it at the time, but God was already pushing him towards his destiny. By the age of twelve, AR gave his life to Christ, and within just a few years he was forced to overcome his shyness when he risked being kicked out of school to become a high school pastor at the age of fifteen. Within the next year, he started an outreach, where he would boldly proclaim the gospel from places like public buses, and by the age of seventeen he was already working full-time in an evangelical ministry. It was from these humble beginnings that AR learned the value of determination, and pressing on in the face of adversity. It was from this path, that AR Base's music ministry really began. Influenced by living in Inglewood, California during his early adult years, AR began to develop and extend his ministry's vision to be founded in his love for music. Although he gained experience as a lead singer for House on the Rock Church and was signed to Gee Ray Records in 2006, he really accredits his growth in the music industry from his time singing for the world-renowned West Angeles Church of God in Christ Mass Choir. It was there that he had the privilege of singing behind legends such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Winans, Donnie McClurkin, Shirley Ceasar, and Beverly Crawford. He even had the honor of being chosen as backup for the “Godmother of Soul” and Grammy Award Winning Patti LaBelle..

Marvin Lawrence Winans is an American gospel singer, pastor, and member of the musical Winans family. He is also known for his recurring role in the hit show Tyler Perry's House of Payne. Pastor Marvin L. Winans is the founder and pastor of Perfecting Church, one of Detroit, Michigan's foremost congregations and a growing ministry family that extends far beyond its active local campus. Raised in a household of faith by his parents, David and Delores Winans, Pastor Winans received the Gospel message at an early age and preached his first sermon at the age of 18; the first-fruit of a ministry calling he accepted in 1970 during a 150-day revival led by Mother Estella Boyd, whom God used to lay hands on him and give him a vision for a future life in ministry. Since heeding the call, Pastor Winans' ministry has grown exponentially, from a humble gathering of eight in his own basement on May 28, 1989 to a membership of more than of 4,500 faithful who congregate weekly in Perfecting's expansive, 165,000 square foot site facility.

Learning behind the greats forever changed and molded AR Base's own musical stylings to begin combining his R&B roots, flavored with Gospel, while adding a hint of Neo Soul, and a dash of Hip-Hop influences. Ironically, it was during this time of great musical growth that AR was quietly fighting battles in his personal life. In fact, it was during this challenging period in his life that he wrote the song, “I Need a Miracle Now,” off his album Change My Heart. A heartfelt cry out to God in desperate times, it ministers to the truth of God's care for our every need, and it quickly rose to become one of the most requested singles. In 2014, AR dropped the album entitled Love Worship, which focused on the power of praise through any of life's circumstances. ...
