Being a guest on other podcasts is a powerful way to grow your audience. However to achieve success, you need to refine your speaking skills. SPEAKING SKILLS WITH A STRATEGY Just being on other podcasts isn't enough. You need a strategy. Being a guest on other podcasts benefits you in two ways. First, it puts you in front of people who do not know you. You're finding new listeners. Second, you benefit with search engine currency. As you appear on more shows, you appear on more platforms and websites. The more you show up online, the more search engines will find you. This second reason is how you can benefit even if the podcast doesn't have a huge audience. Sure, you want to be in front of as many people as possible. But don't forget about the SEO benefit. YOUR ONE CHANCE STRATEGY Remember that as you are in front of new audiences, you only get one chance to make a first impression. Make it good. To connect with others and bring them into your world, improve your speaking skills. Your speaking skills strategy includes your confidence, your content, and your context. Start by believing in what you know and what you have to offer. Lean into your superpower. Next, shape your speaking skills by crafting your content that relates to the audience of that specific show. Finally, add context. Wrap your content in stories so the audience gets to know who you are, what you value, and what you believe. Great speaking skills are something you can learn and master. The fear of public speaking comes from not being prepared and confident in your content. Nobody knows your story better than you do. Embrace it. Great speaking skills are about sharing one thing in many ways through your story. SANTOU CARTER In this episode, I bring you an engaging conversation with Santou Carter. Rev. Santou Carter is an international best-selling author, a multi-award-winning performing artist and systemic psychotherapist working with fear and anxiety. Santou integrates her skills as a performer, preacher and psychotherapist to provide her unique S.T.E.E.R. framework using a holistic ‘Body, Mind, Spirit' approach to ensure her clients can captivate an audience with an engaging, anxiety-free presence to increase their sales and wealth. She has also been nominated for a Women in Podcasting Award, in the category of Best Guest Expert. YOU KNOW ENOUGH In this episode, Santou shares invaluable insights on the journey of podcasting, emphasizing the importance of tapping into your holistic self and leveraging all your experiences and skills. Together, we explore why it's unnecessary to wait until you feel completely knowledgeable to start a podcast, because growth and learning happen along the way. We delve into Santou's unique approaches, including her S.T.E.E.R. framework, which integrates Spirituality, Techniques, Education, Emotional space, and Relationships, to guide personal and professional development. She offers powerful strategies for using podcasts to grow your business, repurpose content, and effectively engage audiences. Plus, Santou shares her candid experiences performing with her husband and the cultural significance of those moments. Join us as we uncover why podcasting is a potent tool for creating lasting connections and vibrant energy. Whether you're an aspiring podcaster or looking to amplify your existing efforts, this episode is packed with actionable advice and inspiring stories. Let's dive in! SPEAKING SKILLS INCLUDE YOUR WHOLE SELF As a seasoned public speaker and group facilitator, Santou shares invaluable insights into how podcasters can blend their professional and personal experiences to create engaging content. She emphasizes the importance of bringing your holistic self into the podcasting realm, leveraging all your skills and expertise to build confidence and foster genuine connections with your audience. Santou discusses the flexibility of podcasting, comparing it to rediscovering an old favorite song; just as forgotten notes come alive, latent skills can emerge during the podcasting journey. Aspiring podcasters need not wait until they feel completely knowledgeable. Starting with the confidence that 'you know enough' is crucial. The podcasting process itself will help illuminate additional skills and knowledge as you go along, making it a journey of continuous growth and learning. THE LONG TAIL Touching on the longevity and ownership benefits of podcasting, Santou explains how podcast content remains accessible and valuable long after its release, unlike the fleeting nature of social media platforms. She introduces her unique STEER framework. It is a holistic approach that enables podcasters to create content that resonates deeply and offers lasting value to their audience. Santou shares practical strategies to maximize podcast reach and impact. She discusses how repurposing podcast transcripts into blogs or books, and using platforms like YouTube, can broaden your content's consumption. She highlights the effectiveness of social media for promotional purposes, advising the use of quote cards and leveraging Pinterest for its evergreen content ability. Santou also reveals a free resource on using podcasting to increase sales and underscores the importance of nurturing audiences through email marketing. During our conversation, Santou shares personal anecdotes from her ow speaking skills and performing career, including her memorable concert singing orthodox music with her husband and his recent opera performance in her native language. Bringing it all back to podcasting, she highlights how personal stories and relationships play a crucial role in developing speaking skills and creating relatable content. Welcome back to another episode of Hustle & Flowchart. As always, I'm here to provide you with actionable strategies that you can implement right away. In this episode, I'm diving deep into the best practices for pitching to podcasters and ensuring you're the guest they can't wait to have on. Whether you're aiming to enhance your media presence or hone your pitching skills, this episode is packed with insider tips directly from the podcasting trenches. The Growing Importance of Podcasting Podcasting has rapidly evolved into a significant media platform, with countless shows covering every topic imaginable. This saturation creates a noisy environment where standing out as a guest becomes increasingly challenging. Yet, the benefits are immense, offering long-term media presence and numerous networking opportunities.  Mastering the Art of Pitching One of the focal points of this episode is how to effectively pitch yourself as a podcast guest. Having received numerous pitches myself, I've observed what makes a pitch successful versus what leads to a quick dismissal. A compelling pitch involves understanding the podcast's theme, respecting the host's work, and aligning your message with their audience's interests. I emphasized the need to transform your pitches from generic templates to personalized messages that capture the essence of your unique value proposition. Effective Use of Outreach Templates During the episode, I shared an outreach template that has proven effective for many in securing guest spots on podcasts. This template helps to structure your pitch by including elements like a personalized greeting, a concise introduction of yourself, an explanation of why you're a great fit for the show, and a proposal of topics that you're prepared to discuss. Emphasizing how you can add value to their podcast is crucial, and providing examples of your previous engagements can significantly bolster your credibility. Setting Up Effective Guest Screening Processes Hosting a podcast comes with its challenges, one of which is vetting potential guests. It's essential to streamline this process to manage the high volume of requests efficiently. I discussed setting up a Google Form or similar tool to filter initial inquiries, asking potential guests to provide detailed information about themselves and their expertise. Such systems not only save time but also ensure that those who make it through are more likely to provide value to your audience. Ensuring Podcast Promotion and Follow-up Finally, we covered the critical aspect of promotion and follow-up post-podcast appearance. As guests, it's advantageous to actively participate in promoting the episode to maximize reach and impact. Detailed planning on how the episode will be shared across different platforms, including social media and email newsletters, can lead to better engagement and show your commitment as a guest.   In conclusion, this episode of the Hustle & Flowchart unpacks the intricacies of becoming a desirable podcast guest, from perfecting your pitch to ensuring effective post-show promotion. Whether you're a seasoned expert or just stepping into the world of podcasts, the insights shared today are designed to equip you with the tools you need to succeed. Remember, being a great guest is not just about showing up; it's about adding value every step of the way. Here's to making your next podcast guest appearance a smashing success! This week, the Black Lincoln Collective Podcast hits you with Episode 136, where the usual suspects, Parker, Fred, and Alan (the sound wizard), get serenaded by none other than the velvet-voiced Landon James This episode is no ordinary chat; it's a full-blown Elvis experience with a modern twist. It's all proving to be a little overwhelming. Here to help us make sense of it all is Brian Hollingsworth, a brand consultant and graphic designer based in London who has become passionate about social media ever since he worked for The Conservative Party in 2018 and, later, a leading urban streetwear brand. We wanted to know whether social media is still worthwhile – whether we're tweeting, X'ing or threading – how we can stand out amongst the noise without burning ourselves out, and where we are best focusing our time and attention to get the best possible return.

Are you looking for the best social media promotion tools in 2018? We share our favorite social media scheduling tools, graphic design tools, and video creation and editing tools. Listen to the podcast to hear about what we consider the best social media promotion tools in 2018 to help you manage post scheduling, design graphics and promote and create your videos. Scheduling Tools Buffer – Allows team sharing in the pro version for an overview of what’s going out and who put them in, but they also have a free version for individuals. It also suggests the best times to post. One drawback, Buffer doesn’t offer the ability to connect with your followers through one dashboard. Hootsuite – Allows you to follow keywords and hashtags and jump into the conversations in social media. The pro account allows you to add team members. AgoraPulse – Great for different types of scheduling, evergreen tweets and recurring tweets. ManageFlitter – Analyzes your Twitter account to tell you the best time to tweet. They also have a lot of amazing features beyond scheduling. SocialJukebox – Great tool for scheduling evergreen tweets where you add it once and and it resends periodically on autopilot. Graphic Design Tools Canva – Use this tool to put together banners, graphics and social media posts. They have great customizable templates you can use to create any graphics you need. They also have a lot of stock photos to choose from that are free or cost only $1. Adobe Spark – They have an app and desktop version. This tool is great to create graphics with quotes, but they also have many templates to use and make designing graphics really easy. SnagIt – This tool allows you to grab screenshots, crop and adjust photos. Plus you can make short screen recordings and edit photos. DepositPhotos – A photography and stock photo collection for purchase to use in your content. If Advances Tip: If you watch for them, AppSumo offers a pack of 100 photos at a discount a few times per year and the credits never expire. Video Creation and Editing Tools Lumen5 – It automatically takes your blog RSS feeds and Lumen5 creates quick video promos you can pin. This is a great tool do create a quick and easy promo video. iMovie – Comes with Mac products and is really easy to use. Apple Clips – This is another Mac product. You can make a video through the app and as you’re talking, it creates the captioning. YouTube Captions – Upload your video to YouTube and use the “add captions” setting, then download it back out of YouTube. Filmora – A great editing package that’s really easy to use and very intuitive. They also have free editing packs available to download. Camtasia – A great, robust video editing tool available on PC or Mac. Videos can be uploaded, saved as an mp3, strip the audio and convert it to a podcast. Viddyoze – They have a marketplace where you can find an intro / outro bumper for a fee. BlueJeans – Beyond going live on social media, this tool is great for streaming at a low bandwidth. You can also add guests to your video. BeLive.tv – This is a great tool for streaming to Facebook. It’s affordable and easy to use. It has great features and also allows you to add guests. You might be wondering why the title of today’s episode is “screw it, let’s do it!” That phrase is certainly relatable to a couple of things in life, but in today’s episode, it’s specific to a travel promotion by Virgin Atlantic Airways that was released last Friday. The title of the promotion was “screw it, let’s do it!” and it was a limited time promotion. The promotion was for a £50 (approx $70 USD) return ticket from London to Miami, and it was limited to just 50 people, however one person could claim up to four tickets for their friends. But as with any promo, there was a catch! In this episode, we share exactly how this promotion worked, how I got it, and all the catches, tips and tricks in between. From Cold Weather to Social Media Marketing Before it Was Called SMM Social Media Marketing! Yes, I was doing social media marketing back in 2010 and I never even thought about it until I got today's question. I started by letting everyone know how happy I was to have plus 10 weather. When I say plus 10, I mean Celsius, not Fahrenheit, that is about 50 F Having such a high temperature this time of the year is not normal in this part of the country. For 10 years I worked in Fort McMurray, Alberta where the winter has an average temperature of -40. Yes, minus 40. Actually for those that don't know, - 40 is the same temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit! I remember being on an Oil site rigging in some water pumps with -56 degrees C, and it was very windy! Wind is a real killer when it starts blowing at temperatures like -56. Well, that was a very hard day of work, trying to work in 5-minute intervals and running back into the pickup trucks that were left running 24x7! Fort McMurray snow Well, enough about the cold. I still have time to read a question today. The question comes from Erich: I would like to start a free WordPress blog on the WordPress site (not my own domain) but I don’t like the themes they provide. Can I use a downloaded theme on there? I have seen some WordPress hosted blogs with different themes, so it looks like it’s possible... Back in the day, I used to run a blog like that... Actually, I went and pulled up that blog and realized I had a few! One, from 2005 about me and my friends doing crazy stuff and partying a lot. Another from 2006 about Poker And finally, a DJ blog promoting me, as a social media promoter for a website I used to own in 2010. The website was called Idol Booster and the domain was Idolbooster.com Wow, I just checked and the website was completely changed but it still offers the same services! What I did back then, is now called Social Media Marketing, or Social Media Promotion. I would rank bands on Myspace and through comments, mentions, and glittery landing pages, promote them to all audiences. I remember one band named Until Dawn, that I was able to generate 19,000 new fans in 1 month on myspace. These days that is not unheard of, but back in 2010 to promote businesses or even products, we had myspace, Google and a few million people on Facebook This brings back so many memories that I even forgot to reply to Erich. Since I don't really know the answer to that question Erich, I will get you to contact me again and we can pick a domain name for your blog, I'll buiy it and host it on my server for free. Let me know if you like that idea, and please get back to me   That is all for today Please don't forget to listen to episode 45, where I talk about Merch by Amazon. That was some of my SMM Social Media MArketing experience back in 010, I may talk about some experiences I had back then, in a future episode.   Thanks Quin
