What's better than throwing a Harry Potter-themed birthday party? How about taking your child on a real Harry Potter adventure across Scotland and London! That's exactly what Megan did for her daughter's 10th birthday—making the magic come alive with points and miles. In this episode, Megan explains how she made this trip happen for her family of five—and how using points made it more affordable than a trip to Universal Studios! Flying to Scotland on Points Megan and her family started their journey with flights on KLM Flying Blue, taking advantage of the 25% discount for kids under 12. Because they were able to book five economy tickets for just 85,000 points plus taxes/fees, they were able to splurge some on an upgrade to premium economy at check-in. Add in Priority Pass lounge access during their layover (thanks, credit card benefits!) and the whole experience got even better. Exploring Scotland: The Highlands & Harry Potter Locations After landing in Edinburgh, Megan and her family hit the road to explore Scotland's most famous sights—including key Harry Potter filming locations at Glencoe, Glenfinnan Viaduct, and Loch Shiel. From Scotland to London: Train Travel & Harry Potter Studio Tour After road-tripping through Scotland, the family took the train from Edinburgh to London, booking first-class seats for extra space and lounge access. London's Harry Potter Activities! Megan's family visited: King's Cross Station (Platform 9 ¾) – A must for any fan. Warner Bros. Harry Potter Studio Tour – The ultimate experience, where her daughter got to open the doors to the Hogwarts Great Hall because it was her birthday! They spent over five hours exploring movie sets, props, and magical effects. London on Points: Hyatt Regency Blackfriars & The Cursed Child Play For accommodations, used Hyatt points and the Hyatt Family Plan Rate, getting four nights at the Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars for: ✅ 77,000 points for one room ✅ $700 total for the second room The hotel's location meant Megan's family got free wristbands allowing access to the prime areas for watching New Year's Eve fireworks over Big Ben and the London Eye! To top off their trip, they saw Harry Potter and the Cursed Child—a six-hour theater experience that still had the kids completely engaged. Find out what blew Megan away and why going to the play in London is worth traveling for. Episode 45: Show Notes. We're always looking to try new things, but our recent trip to Colombia and Spain unlocked new levels of exploring the unknown! We centered the trip around 1 single itinerary, and didn't have our flights home until more than halfway through the trip. Our exploration of two cities begins in the one with higher altitude than we're used to: Bogotá, Colombia, and we explain how we devised our itinerary and why we insisted on flying LATAM. We assess the Priority Pass restaurant options at Houston Airport, how Bogotá welcomed us (and especially Thomas!) with a feast of local delights, what hotel hopping is like in Colombia, the attractions and activities of Colombia's sprawling capital, and the exercise one can get traversing the El Dorado airport lounge. Then, we unpack everything that happened on our flight to our second destination, Madrid, with a brief interlude to the recent spate of airline alliance dissolutions. We discuss our first experience of AC Hotels by Marriot, how exploring new areas in Madrid led to a wonderful steak dinner for Trevor's birthday, why we changed flights multiple times and what these changes cost, and why many hotels are choosing to consistently shuffle their inventories. To end, we detail the trip home via Germany on Lufthansa First Class, why Lufthansa's onboard lavatory system always leaves us scratching our heads, the joys of Global Entry's Mobile App, and an important event to look forward to on the 9th of December, 2024. Ever wonder whether the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve is the right card for you? Well, today we're diving deep into both to help you figure out which card might fit your wallet better. Hey, we're the Travel Mom Squad (Pam, Jess, and Alex), and in today's chat, we're breaking down everything you need to know about these two popular cards from Chase. From the nitty-gritty of their benefits to the best ways to utilize their perks, we've got you covered. The Chase Sapphire Preferred is our go-to recommendation for those new to the points game. With a lower annual fee and solid rewards, it's a powerhouse for anyone starting out. On the flip side, the Chase Sapphire Reserve is like the Preferred's big sibling, with a heftier fee but a ton of premium perks. Think $300 travel credit that you can use for just about anything travel-related, from taxis to flights, which makes its higher fee more palatable. Both cards have their merits, and the best one for you depends heavily on how much you travel and what kinds of benefits you value most. If you're a frequent traveler who loves splurging on travel and dining, the Reserve might be up your alley. But if you're just dipping your toes into the world of travel rewards, the Preferred might be a better fit. So, are you ready to pick a card that aligns with your travel aspirations and spending habits? Join us as we delve into the details, share our personal experiences, and maybe, just maybe, help you decide which card will earn a spot in your wallet. Remember, the right card for you is the one that matches your travel style and budget. Hit play to get the full scoop and kickstart your journey with the right Chase card for you! Back behind the microphone after, despite my finely tuned travel plans, I had to resort to being stubbornly cranky to fix a ORD connection drama when coming home from a tulip-peeping trip in Holland. We also wander into the world of flâneuring, aimlessly walking around a city as a way to swerve overtourism. Listeners weigh in on Priority Pass lounge access and online passport renewal experiences, and I count all the apps I needed to go cashless in Holland.Check out this episode's show notes here

On a recent trip, I flew out of Sacramento International Airport in the Capitol city of California. The lounge options are limited there with no Centurion, Delta, United, or American lounges. Likewise, Priority Pass has no affiliate lounges in Sacramento. The only two lounge options are two Escape Lounges, Centurion Studio Partners, located in terminals A and B. Brian Chappon, CEO of CENTRED, is a self-described "recovering Wall Street guy." Along with CMO Sarah Gallo (also founder of The Five Foot Traveler and an OG in the travel space!) and the rest of the team, have been able to put together something literally nobody else has been able to do in the HALO sector previously--although many have tried! CENTRED can be described as a "global wellness-focused travel platform that re-writes the blueprint for travel, fitness, tele-health, and beauty/lifestyle to make the traveler's experience safe and healthy, all with the convenience of using just one app." It's a kind of "ClassPass meets Priority Pass for the next generation traveler" and shortly, an AI concierge will be available to help HALO-conscience travelers find events and put "butts in seats" for brands in the CENTRED ecosystem. "We're raising capital now, but I think what we're most proud of when we talk to investors, is . . .'Look at what we're able to do with hardly any capital! It's incredible!' That's for sure . . . Getting people to buy into your vision is one thing, but getting people to execute over a long period of time, that's another," states Chappon. As the world continues to open up post-pandemic, the spotlight on taking responsibility for your health and fitness is brighter than it's ever been . . . and brands need to meet that demand. CENTRED is the app that is going to lead the charge by continuing to bring those worlds together and make it all seamless. They've been able to accomplish a tremendous amount thus far on (more or less) a shoestring. Reach out to the team now if you're interested in investing and if you're a HALO brand looking to get on their platform. Click here to download transcript.

Often getting through an airport is the worst part of a trip. The hassle, the rush, the stress -- the people! This week on the podcast, Kim and Tamara share their tips for making the airport experience as low-stress as possible, even when traveling with kids. ON THE PODCAST 00:30 - Sponsor - Comrad Socks 02:08 - Getting to the airport 14:13 - Getting through TSA security 17:45 - TSA Precheck/Clear 23:38 - Global Entry/Nexus 27:18 - In the Airport 38:10 - International Airport This episode is sponsored by Comrad Socks. Comrad compression socks are an essential no serious traveler should board a flight without — at least on LA-NY or transoceanic segments — and makes a major difference in how your legs and feet feel during the flight, upon arrival, and the next day. Their aim is to make the best, most stylish, comfortable version of what's traditionally been a boring but useful product—and that's why travel customers that already know and wear compression are getting excited about. Receive 20% off your first using discount code VACATIONMAVENS. TIPS FOR TRAVELING THROUGH AN AIRPORT When you are taking a trip by plane, be mindful of your boarding times. When you are planning when you need to leave for the airport make sure to not just look at your departure time. You want to make sure to go by your boarding time. Depending on the flight and airport this could be anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes before your departure time. Checking in in advance helps reduce your time at the airport waiting in lines, particularly if you aren't checking bags. Even if you are checking luggage you can pay in advance and just need to print your luggage tag when you arrive. Make sure you have all of your essential items easily accessible, like your boarding pass, ID, credit cards/cash, luggage tags filled out on all your bags. This will help when it is time to pull something out as you won’t have to fumble around to find what you are looking for. If you are traveling during a peak time make sure to look into your parking situation. Find out if you have the option to prepay for parking or if you need to park in an off site lot which will then require you to have to take a shuttle to the airport. If that is the case make sure that you give yourself a little extra time to unload your car onto a shuttle and for the shuttle to get you to the airport. Even just finding a parking spot in a lot or garage may take you some time. You will find that some airports may have Skycap available outside of the terminal. They can take your checked baggage and print out boarding passes for you right there, which can help you skip the indoor lines. Having one spot for all your documents really comes in handy for going through TSA Security. For some this might be an exterior pocket on their backpack/carry on. If you plan on keeping these items in a pocket on your person you may want to rethink for when you have to go through security. Since you have to empty all of your pockets to go through this can cause you to misplace or lose items if you have to shove them into a pocket or in a basket for them to go through the scanners. If you don’t have TSA Precheck, you should really think about what you are going to wear to the airport. Especially when it comes to your shoes. Wearing a kind of slip on shoe would be your best option verses a shoe that you have to tie and untie to get them on and off. You will usually have an okay amount of time while you are putting items on the security belt but afterwards you will need to grab and move your stuff to get out of the way pretty quickly once they come through the otherside. You should also make sure to not wear any clothing that a lot of metal as these show up on the scanners and you may have to get pulled aside to get patted down. Having TSA Pre check is a separate line from regular security check, where you don’t have to take out your toiletries or laptop/tablet as well as you will not have to take off your shoes. There is also a program called Clear that is a paid program which breaks down to $15/month. With or without precheck this program gets you to the front of either of the lines. Unfortunately not every airport offers this program. If you would like to sign up for TSA Precheck, you will need to go on to the government site to fill out an application. The next step will be to make an appointment for an interview. This is not something that you can do right before you book your flight. Global Entry has a similar process. This is a different program but if you receive Global Entry you will also get TSA Precheck. For those of you that don’t know Global Entry is a program that gets you through customs quicker. The price difference is $100 for Global Entry and $85 for TSA Precheck. Nexus is another similar program that offers Pre check for some flights going into Canada. This program also has a faster line for when you are driving across the Canadian border. Once you are through security, find your way to your gate and look for some seats if you have time to wait. If you need to see if you can find seats that have a plug by them. You might not want to use the USB plugs that they offer, there have been reports of viruses and data being stolen from these plugs. If you brought a refillable water bottle you may want to use the time to fill up your bottles and use the bathroom. When you are walking to your gate try and look around to where the bathroom, water fountain/water bottle station or even a place to grab food. This might save you some time trying to find these things after you get to the gate if you already know where it is. If you are nervous about getting through international airports you might want to look into a meet and greet service that airports offer. This is a paid VIP service where someone will meet you when you get off of your flight, they will then walk you to where you need to be. They will usually take you through a quicker security line and you may also be able to board your next flight before your boarding group. If you are an American Express Platinum member, you also receive access to Escape Lounges, Centurion Lounges, and other lounges through a complimentary Priority Pass membership. This can be a much more pleasant way to wait for your flight or to manage layovers. FOLLOW US AND SPREAD THE WORD! HOW TO TRAVEL THE WORLD - TIPS AND TRICKS. Important things for travel prep, like travel insurance? For travel prep I am going to say you have a few must need, or need to know items. These include but are not limited to: Travel insurance - we use World Nomads. Fun fact, we were exempt from needing insurance in 2018 because we were out of the country for the months that we did not have insurance. So, that was winning. Travel insurance does not count as normal medical insurance. Know that. World nomads has a few options, we went with the highest option just to be safe. We were traveling with a drone, camera, lenses, two laptops and some valuables that we felt were worth having coverage for. Nate's wallet was stolen in our first location, Santiago, Chile, and we filed a claim and received $83 I believe it was. Yes, that was stressful, but it was nice to know that when we rented a vehicle, like in Europe for four weeks, we knew we had coverage. They also provide hotlines that you can contact in case of emergency or sickness that will lead you in the direction of English speaking doctors and facilities. Insurance is always for the peace of mind, right? Rarely need it, but sleep a little easier knowing you have it. Next would be two V's of international travel - vaccinations and Visas. Vaccinations - You can look up what vaccinations are required and then suggested for the countries you are planning to visit on the cdc website. Then find a travel clinic near you or simply call your doctors office and they will lead you where you need to go, because it is likely that they do not provide these vaccinations. Visas - The Miller's had a rough go with visas on our first trip around the world. We misunderstood the rules for the European 90 day tourist visa and overstayed by 23 days. That was fun - I've mentioned it before, but we drove, took buses and had flights through 14 European countries so our passports looked like a hot mess and we were not asked about any of it or our timeline until we flew from Poland to Singapore. Plan was to finally leave Europe from the Helinski Airport in Finland. We had a 45 minute transfer and they held us at customs. We were clueless. Long story short, we thought Scotland broke up our 90 days and then restarted a new 90 days when we entered back into the European Union. But the rule is 90 days WITHIN 180 days. And we def stayed for four months in Europe. Oops. Because we weren't coming back anytime soon, they gave us the stamp, let us go, and we sprinted to our gate. When traveling from Philippines to Vietnam, waiting to board our plane, we were informed we needed a visa for Vietnam. Somehow in our planning we just didn't see this. So, having lodging booked and an itinerary we needed to try and stick to, we hopped on the computer, missed our flight, expedited visas, booked a new flight for the next day and got a hotel room near the airport. It was a rush. But it all worked out. Just a few hundred dollars later. Just do a google search fam. “do US citizens need a visa for _____" (enter desired country). From there it can be tricky or super easy depending on the country. Some countries are visa upon arrival, other require more info + passport and a photo to be emailed etc. Just depends. Which is why I say the two V's need to be addressed early on in your planning, VACCINATIONS AND VISAS. Beyond insurance and the two v's I would suggest having a credit card that will benefit you while traveling long term overseas. You don't want to deal with foreign transaction fees or your bank blocking your card because you're in Bangladesh. Plus you get all the points if you use a credit card. We did annoying amounts of research before we left on round 1 and we love the Chase Sapphire. This also gave us the option of tacking on the Priority Pass which gets us into nearly all international lounges. Which fam….I cannot tell you how much lounges have changed my life.

Flight 093. Paul sounds like a robot (sorry, guys), Alex sounds authoritative (he's always right, no?). The BA Speedbird 100 beer (when need Glen to assess it!). Some on-board pop that foams too much (Alex is the worst passenger). On-board food: increasing portions, farm-to-plane, rooftop potatoes. After the on-board food: the toilet to passenger ratio revealed (but also how to cram gold in a lavatory). Don't get too much on-board food: getting weighted to board (do the 7 layers of clothing count?). The future of ISL Ataturk and Mexico's airports (and BER, the Fyre Festival of airports). The tricky category C airports in Europe, Innsbruck, LCY and others that require special training (and specific technologies). The continuing acts of customer experience contritions by BA (afraid of JetBlue maybe?) and United (but it goes only so far). JAL really did name its low cost Zip Air Tokyo (and used Word to create the logo). The best Priority Pass lounges awards. Tons of feedback. And the uncertain future of the Sukhoi Superjet 100, after the sad tragedy.
The Fiji Islands are high on everyone’s bucket list for good reasons. With unforgettable snorkeling, world-class hospitality, and gorgeous beaches, you will have the time of your life no matter accommodations you plan. In this episode, we will give travel tips on what we experienced with our friends and how it might help you in your adventure to the islands. Not only did we take advantage of having shark at our feet, swim in the best snorkel areas of our lives, and lay near the most beautiful water you can imagine, we also met local families, explored a waterfall, and watched a local rugby match. With my birthday celebration came a kava ceremony, dancers to traditional Fijian music, and a beach bonfire. We had a blast spending 10 days in Fiji and living it up. Please listen in as we share a few tips you might consider before having the trip of our life. Main Topics Covered: Fiji Islands Travel Tips Links Mentioned in the Episode: Check out all of the PARTNERS that have made our lives easy while traveling the world. Nikki’s first published book - Passport Joy - can be found on the Kindle store on Amazon. If you plan on drinking alcohol while in Fiji you will want to take advantage of the prices at the airport. The public bus is available to take you where you need to go from Nadi Airport. It is much cheaper than a taxi but it is a tight squeeze. We stayed at the De Vos Private Residence in Maui Bay, Sigatoka, Fiji. We visited Biausevu Village where we enjoyed a private village tour and waterfall experience with Veronica’s Authentic Tours. We stayed at a great house near the Nadi Airport that had tons of space, a pool, and BBQ area. It was a great stay. I am addicted to the Rugby Sevens now and Fiji dominated when we watched in the HK7’s in April. We went to Lawaqa Park and watched local rugby. These guys are extremely tough. We had the time of our lives with the best snorkeling ever, unbelievable food, and amazing skippers with Coral Cats Sailing. We visited a great barber shop in Fiji called Nomu Barbershop and had an awesome time. The Fiji Airport is fantastic and the lounge access you have with Priority Pass gives you the chance to visit one of the best lounges in the world. We cannot believe how fast the last 18 months have gone on the road. In this episode, we reflect back on the journey and detail all of the places we have visited so far. The path has been fantastic. We then talk through the last week of traveling which took us to the beautiful city of Tallinn, Estonia for 5 days to enjoy the thriving technology hub of Europe. We enjoyed walking around the walled town and meeting other travelers. Then we discuss our flights from Tallinn to Copenhagen, Denmark to Doha, Qatar to Tokyo, Japan. We made the most of our visit to Qatar scheduling a night tour of the city which was amazing. Be sure to be nice to all airline personnel because it will often pay off. I got emergency exit rows on both long flights for free. My buddy in Copenhagen told me to go to the ‘Top Shawarma spot in the world’ so I did. He was right, it was delicious. We cannot stress enough how amazing the lounge access is with Priority Pass. We showered, ate meals, and had space while enjoying the lounges in the cities we flew through. We scheduled a quick 4-hour night tour in Doha, Qatar during our layover and it was well worth it. The tour company did a wonderful job making sure we enjoyed the time in the city. Make sure you understand what to pack. Pack Less! Here is a great post on everything we packed in a single backpack. Since token sales have become Ethereum's first killer app, I'd argue that the Cofound.it token is the ERC20 token that has the highest current network usage value. Using the CFI token, Priority Pass makes it possible for blockchain projects to build communities and network effects on the Cofound.it platform. Jan and I talk about how his background prepared him to lead Cofound.it, and why he's motivated to make Cofound.it a platform that breaks down international boundaries to startup financing.
