Deceiving ourselves trips us up on our spiritual walk. When we deceive ourselves, we are blind to the assumptions we make and think we are right when we are actually wrong. Much of this is delivered through the pulpit; wrong doctrine deceives us so that we do not see the truth of God's love and grace. Our success in life hinges on knowing our true identity as His righteous children. God wants to show us that we are His reflection; understanding this prevents us from being deceived. Letting the Holy Spirit guide us in how to live keeps us humble and protects us from pride, which is closely intertwined with self-deception. Sharing God's perspective though Jesus Christ gives us the spiritual vision we need. To support the ministry financially, text "CDMPodcast" to 74483 or visit www.worldchangers.org.
BOOK:LIONHEARTEDhttps://lionhearted.com/WHY THIS BOOK WHY NOW? WHY YOU? WHY LIONHEARTED? EXPLAIN HOW THE HEART IS THE CENTERPIECE OF OUR MANHOODSTATE OF MANHOOD? There is no such thing as neutrality in the life of faith. Jesus said, “The kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force." Passivity is not an option. Inactivity is a vote to go back to living and looking like the old you. It's the easiest thing in the world for a Christian man to be too passive, and hardness sets in as a result.WHAT FEARS DO YOU HAVE ABOUT THE LITTLE C CHURCH? FULL OF BOX-CHECKING POSERS? RELIGIOUS LABELS PRESSED AND PLEATED WHEN/HOW DID YOU OWN YOUR FAITH?QUOTES: “Going to church is a dangerous hobby. You are operating on the mistaken assumption that putting yourself in proximity to truth will be enough to provoke positive incremental change in you. “ “Your spiritual outlook is the equivalent of the college student sleeping with a textbook under his pillow, hoping he can prepare for the exam by osmosis. The problem is that hearing God's Word without taking the dramatic action that it demands is doing damage to your soul. “ “Doing spiritual things” - you know that's what a Christian is supposed to do - you are playing games with life-and-death truth. Your docile disposition is killing the potential work of God in you.” “And what's so dangerous about that way of living is that the longer you allow that to continue unchecked, the more difficult it becomes to break the cycle. Passivity perpetuates passivity.”TUNA HEARTWHAT DOES A FINELY TUNED HEART LOOK LIKE?HOW DO WE KNOW OUR HEART IS OUT OF TUNE?WHAT ARE INFLUENCES THAT GIVE US FALSE INFORMATION ABOUT HOW IN TUNE OUR HEARTS ARE?TOOLS THAT FINELY TUNE OUR HEARTS?HOW DO WE DEFEND AGAINST THIS COMPLACENCY?You will always need men in your life who can call you out, who can tell you that something is off. Spiritual Principle -Only Christ can deliver me from self - deception.
God has great plans for our lives, but those plans are blocked when we deceive ourselves. Deceiving ourselves makes us spiritually blind to the truth of a situation; this is something God wants to deliver us from. Self-deception springs from the fall of man in the garden of Eden, and our sinful nature that resulted from it. The devil works through this and tries to convince us that our identity is based on our bad behavior instead of on God's Word concerning our righteousness. What was true under the law may no longer be true under grace; we fool ourselves when we think we must live by an outdated covenant. The lies we believe about ourselves neutralize us. Recognizing who we are in Christ and believing what God says about us opens our eyes to the truth about ourselves. There is nothing worse we can do to ourselves as traders and investors than deceive ourselves. Deception can be a tricky thing. Self deception can be an even trickier thing. I wouldn't say I was shocked by the discovery, but the livestream on YouTube continues to deliver valuable lessons and reminders for us in the trading world. There is quite a bit of self deception occurring and I'm doing my best to put an end to it. I used to fall victim to it as it is something that seems to be totally innocent. The problem is, if you start playing the game you will begin to take yourself down the pathways which lead to confusion and headaches. Let me walk you through how this game is played and why it's so damaging. Avoiding this temptation will keep you grounded in reality and give you a much better chance to be efficient with your time.
In this episode, Corrine and Neil reflect on a lesson that took years to come full circle: the power of listening to your gut, even when it goes against popular advice.Corrine opens up about the decision to restart her Mint Arrow Instagram account from scratch, a choice that felt right in her spirit but went against the advice of nearly everyone around her. Years later, that gut feeling was affirmed by an expert who told her it was exactly what he would've recommended. This leads into a deeper conversation about mentorship, personal revelation, and learning to filter advice through your own values, character, and calling.Together, Corrine and Neil share why it's so important to choose mentors whose lives align with the kind of future you actually want—and how to recognize red flags when someone's influence, even well-meaning, might be pulling you out of alignment. They also talk about the difference between mimicking someone else's path and building your own with authenticity, wisdom, and spiritual discernment. This episode is a reminder that not all good advice is your good advice—and sometimes, the Spirit will confirm what you already know deep down.Resource mentioned:Leadership and Self-Deception by The Arbinger InstituteSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
The most dangerous thing about self-deception is that when we are operating in it, we do not even know that we are being deceived. Failing to be true to what we believe is right causes us to rationalize and make excuses. Being true to our sense of what the right thing is relieves us from having to explain our actions; if we are false to our belief, then our excuses make the wrong thing that we are doing appear right. Deceiving ourselves causes a disturbance in us that we cannot reconcile because deep down inside, we know exactly what we should do. Fooling ourselves in this manner results in spiritual blindness us to the truth. This type of thinking is something we must beware of because it is built into the world's norms and values. The best way to avoid this trap is to follow through and live the Word of grace after hearing it; this powerfully internalizes the truth as it is now. To experience God's best, it is important not to live in deception. This especially applies to us because believing the wrong thing causes us to deceive ourselves. Operating too long in deception can harden our hearts and lead us to believe a lie. We are all susceptible to this; God therefore wants to work with us to help us stop fooling ourselves. Letting Him guide us in this area keeps our spiritual eyes open so that we can see the dangers of associating with the wrong kinds of people and avoid being corrupted. When we see others in self-deception, we must tell them the truth, but do so in love. Studying God's Word concerning this keeps us from falling into this trap. Resilient discipleship begins with radical honesty. Not performance, not projection, but a courageous look at what we're actually serving and how we're actually living. Self-deception is subtle. It tells us we're fine while we slowly drift. It normalizes compromise, numbs conviction, and slowly pulls our hearts away from the Kingdom Jesus calls us to seek first. In Matthew 6:19–24, Jesus invites us to examine our interior attachments. He speaks of treasure, sight, and loyalty but beneath it all is a deeper question: what is truly forming us?This week, we're asking: Where is my heart invested? What am I treasuring? What do my habits, choices, and rhythms reveal? Honesty lets the light in so that Jesus can truly lead us from the inside out. Because if we are to become a resilient community of resilient disciples walking out a resilient faith, then we have to Holy Spirit expose our false attachments.
One of the most dangerous traps in life is self-deception. We are in trouble when we think more highly of ourselves than we should. We can see in someone else's life when they are deceiving themselves. However, we do not see this in our own lives because we are blind and unaware of the genuine reality about ourselves. It is time to stop lying to ourselves. Yes, unquestionably, one of the most dangerous traps in life is self-deception. Stay tuned and inform others now. I am about to share with you in my 50th episode of this podcast about THE TRAP OF SELF-DECEPTION. Please do not miss it.

From Self-Deception to Self-Trust: Honoring Emotions After Betrayal In this deeply moving episode, Dr. Kevin Skinner and MaryAnn Michaels are joined by special guest Jennifer Johnson, a clinical mental health counselor and expert in betrayal trauma and sex addiction recovery. Together, they explore the nuanced concept of self-deception—not as a character flaw, but as a survival response often rooted in upbringing, family systems, and emotional safety. They discuss how many betrayed partners struggle to trust their instincts and emotions, often minimizing their experiences or denying them altogether due to social conditioning, gaslighting, or fear of the truth. The conversation highlights the importance of self-awareness, emotional identification, and self-compassion as key steps toward healing and reclaiming authenticity. Jennifer shares powerful insights on learning to honor emotions through body awareness, identifying internalized shame, and rediscovering one's inherent worth. Dr. Skinner closes with a formula: Self-Compassion → Self-Trust = Authenticity—emphasizing that true intimacy begins with being real, both with ourselves and others. ---
Wellness + Wisdom | Episode 726 What if the greatest threat to your success isn't the world around you, but the self-sabotaging lies in your mind? Bizzie Gold, Brain Pattern Mapping + Behavior Expert, joins Josh Trent on the Wellness + Wisdom Podcast, episode 726, to reveal the hidden pathways of self-deception, how subconscious patterns distort our sense of identity and drive us to repeat old destructive emotional loops we mistake for “normal” life, and the roadmap to rewiring your brain so you can finally live in alignment with your true potential. "Every person's brain pattern type has a unique set of self-deceptive tendencies. Self-deception is the fuel for everything negative that we experience in our lives. Every loop that we get stuck in, every pain and conflict that we have in a relationship, it's all a byproduct of self-deception." - Bizzie Gold
Our Creator God is true north. The primary landmark that we should always be able to see is, “I am created body and spirit. Wonderfully and fearfully made! Finally, alignment with our community brings us full circle in our life. Physical drives and desires can't be “running the show.” The human spirit cannot be in denial of the life of one's body. Healthy self-awareness is to live in harmony with one's total self - body & spirit. These alignments are the source of immunity to a life of deceiving others through out own self-deception. Alignment is wholeness in our community and world. Scriptures include Hebrews 11:1-3, 6; 2Thessalonians 5:23-24; 1Peter 2:11-12; 2Timothy 3:1-15; and James 2:26.Support the showTonyKafka on Patreon
Can you navigate the fine line between divine guidance and self-deception? On this episode of the Jamie Luce podcast, we unravel the complex story of Balaam, a figure in scripture who heard God's voice yet strayed into the realm of false prophecy. Balaam's narrative serves as a powerful lesson on the importance of aligning our hearts with divine will, emphasizing the transition from spiritual infancy to maturity. As we walk through Balaam's journey, listeners are encouraged to reflect on their spiritual growth and the fruits it bears in their lives and those around them. Our exploration doesn't stop there; we journey into the saga of Balaam and Balak, drawing connections to the modern-day challenges we face. This episode underscores the importance of surrounding ourselves with positive influences and making discerning choices. Through the lens of Balaam's story, we stress that God's blessings are insurmountable and highlight the unique, personalized guidance God offers every individual. Hear how understanding and valuing God's "no's" can be as life-altering as embracing His "yeses," especially for young adults and parents navigating complex social dynamics. Lastly, we tackle the concept of idolatry born from self-deception, using Balaam's misguided attempts for personal gain as a cautionary tale. Balaam's donkey, a surprising source of truth, prompts us to examine our own motivations and remain vigilant against rationalizing disobedience. This discussion serves as a reminder to hold steadfast to our faith amidst worldly temptations, aiming to embody a life that reflects God's image. Join us for a thought-provoking conversation that challenges conventional wisdom and invites listeners to embrace a life rooted in sincerity and alignment with biblical teachings. In Part 3 of his series on I & II Samuel, Rabbi Schiller looks at the story of Saul and the Amalekites and Samuel removing the kingship from Saul for his disobedience, and we look at how in our own life we can resist self-deception only if we fully acknowledge the LORD as our King.
In life, there are people who are going to try to treat you badly. Your gut is going to tell you that what they're doing is NOT OK, and your gut KNOWS you need to get out of there. But if you were abused or neglected as a kid? There's something a lot stronger than what you know to be true, and that's the fear of leaving someone you've formed an attachment with. It will make you doubt what you see and hear with your own eyes, and you'll talk yourself into putting up with something that two hours ago you KNEW was a deal breaker. Too often, church leaders and institutions protect their own reputation, power, and influence instead of the wounded and abused. This episode is a crucial conversation with world-renowned trauma expert Dr. Diane Langberg, who has spent over five decades counseling survivors of abuse and working to bring truth and light into the darkest places within the church. In this episode, Leslie Vernick and Dr. Langberg discuss how churches can—and must—do better. They expose the dangerous ways churches enable abuse, misuse power, and silence victims in the name of God. If you've ever felt unheard, dismissed, or spiritually manipulated by those in leadership, this conversation will offer both validation and hope. Key Takeaways: 1. Why Churches Struggle to See and Address Abuse The church has been slow to acknowledge abuse within its walls. Too often, the institution is prioritized over the people. Jesus called leaders to "feed my sheep," yet many churches protect the system instead. Abuse survivors need churches that reflect Christ's heart, not just uphold doctrine. 2. The Harmful Messages Women Hear About Abuse and Marriage Many women are told that preserving marriage at all costs is God's will, even at the expense of their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. But God hates sin more than divorce. Jesus himself walked away from people who refused truth, and women are not called to stay in destructive relationships to honor God. 3. The Self-Deception of Abusive Church Leaders Abusive pastors and leaders often twist Scripture to justify their actions. They protect their reputations and minimize their sins, deceiving not only others but themselves. True repentance requires exposure and accountability, not secrecy and cover-ups. 4. How to Create Safer Churches for Abuse Survivors Churches must shift their focus from building large institutions to becoming places that reflect Christ's love and justice. This means listening to survivors, seeking expert training, and prioritizing character over charisma in leadership. 5. God's Heart for the Wounded For those who have been harmed by their church, Dr. Langberg offers a powerful reminder: God sees, weeps, and hates the evil done in His name. He does not ask you to stay in an abusive situation. He is for you, not against you. HR is often asked to help increase accountability in the workplace. Because people just aren't doing their jobs they way they are supposed to! We often think it's because they don't care. Sometimes that's the case, but other times they just don't care about the impact they're having on others. I spoke to Mitch Warner, Managing Partner of the Arbinger Institute. Things got a little uncomfortable for me - but I guess that's when the learning happens right? He talks about an aspect of accountability that we don't think about often. That is, the accountability to others so they get their work done. The impact on others is frequently overlooked. This episode will make you think - every once in a while I have a guest who turns a topic on their head and this was one of them and I was there for it!

In this solo episode of The Greatness Machine, he dives into the importance of embracing life's preciousness, and the role rituals play in grounding us during uncertain times. He discusses the concept of humility, the Dunning-Kruger effect, and why it is vital to approach life with a sense of curiosity and openness. With a focus on empathy, Darius shares how shifting our mindset to see others as humans can deepen our connections. Did you know most people forget about 90% of what they hear within just a week? Now consider this—according to the American Bible Society, only 16% of U.S. adults read the Bible most days of the week. Let's assume they spend a generous 10 minutes a day in Scripture. That adds up to just over an hour a week! But if 90% of what you take in fades quickly, how much of God's Word is truly shaping your life? Maybe it's time to rethink how we engage with Scripture. This is what James is concerned about today. If you are new here, we are excited to have you. Get your James Scripture Journal now so you can take notes as we study this letter together. Our text today is James 1:22: But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. — James 1:22 James doesn't beat around the bush. His advice is simple: don't just listen to God's Word—live it. He understands something we often forget: information without action is deception. Here's the stark difference James points out. One group of believers goes to church, listens to teaching, feels conviction, and gathers information about God. But they stop there. They don't act on what they've heard. The other group does the same—except they put what they learn into action. And that's where transformation begins. Hearing the Word changes nothing until you start doing the Word. So, what do you need to start doing today? Here's my suggestion. I am here every single day—literally every day! And every day, I give you an action to take. I don't do this to encourage effort-based salvation but because I believe in the power of small, consistent steps of obedience done every single day. Why? Because small spiritual actions done daily and immediately leave a more profound and lasting mark on your life than a flood of information that you never act on. It's daily obedient actions in combination with God's Word and Spirit promptings that sanctify change. James boldly confronts us all, declaring believers who hear but don't act live in self-deception. Remember: A faith that listens but doesn't live is no faith at all. #LiveTheWord, #FaithInAction, #DailyObedience Ask This: How much of God's Word are you actively applying in your daily life? What small spiritual action can you take today? Are you living out the truth you've been hearing? How can you move from listening to doing this week? Do This: Listen to the word and act quickly. Pray This: Lord, help me not only to hear Your Word but to live it boldly every day. Show me small ways to act obediently and transform my heart through daily faithfulness. Amen. Play This: I'm Listening.

Unity Without Compromise with Dr. Steven LaTulippe – Deception, especially self-deception, threatens America's future. We celebrate political victories but ignore the deeper issue: rejecting God's moral standard. Our nation falls not from external forces but from unrighteousness. Only by aligning with God's truth can we rebuild. Let us defend the Constitution, confront hypocrisy, and restore hope through faith and justice.

Empathy. It's likely a word that conjures up unnecessary softness or, even weakness. But there's nothing weak about being empathetic and it certainly does mean you need to allow others to wallow in their own self-pity or walk all over you. In fact, when utilized correctly, empathy can be a powerful tool for realizing your full potential and influencing others positively along their own path. My guest today, David Waldy, joins me to make the case for men adding a level of what he calls fierce empathy into their lives. We talk about what empathy really means, why we lie to others and ourselves, how to stop lying, learning to heal yourself strategically and tactically, borrowing from other people's success, and how to craft and utilize a new identity for who you are.
