It's never ideal to lose your job, but losing it on your birthday feels like an angsty Alanis Morissette song. Early on in our lives and careers, we hear messaging that is pushing this desire for us to find job security. The issue here, especially in the arts, job security is more of an illusion than a tangible reality. In this episode, Brandon share three ways to protect against and combat job loss. Although dancers traditionally move from job to job, how can we refocus our goals from job security, to job fulfillment? In today's Podcast Episode, I wanted to talk about one of the key takeaways from last week's podcast interview with Allison Mell from Tots and Target. Did you know that the CDC recently removed crawling as a developmental milestone? As a dance teacher, this is really concerning! Crawling provides so many benefits to young children, not just in the physical sense but also for their brain and sensory development! What can we do as dance teachers to help students who may have skipped the crawling phase, or performed a-typical crawling patterns without being corrected. Listen to today's episode for some ideas! In today's Podcast Episode, I have the privilege of interviewing Allison Mell with Tots on Target, a Physical Therapist who works side by side with Mary Deutsch, a Licensed Occupational Therapist to help parents understand how their children grow and develop. I recently completed their Babies on the Move course which was BRILLIANT (it's linked below) and I was captivated about the section on red flags and crawling. So it had me wondering, how can some of these "red flags" present themselves in the later years, the years of 3, 4 and 5 when dancers are ready to sign up for dance classes for the first time? In this episode we discuss Development, Crawling, Red-Flags, Balancing, W-Sitting and More! You don't want to miss it! Hello Dance Teacher Friends! Happy Wednesday and welcome to another episode of the Dance to Learn® Podcast! I'm your host Jessica Strong and today I wanted to talk about limiting distractions inside the dance studio. I started my teaching career teaching in both a studio setting as well as inside schools such as private preschools and public elementary schools. Teaching in a school setting taught me a lot on how unnecessary some “essential” tools inside the dance studio are really not necessary at all for younger and beginning level dancers and can really be more of a distraction than a beneficial tool. Today I'm going to share my thoughts on how you can limit distractions created by the Dance Studio Mirrors and the Ballet Barres! To be a Guest on the Podcast or for Advertising Inquiries, please email info@dancetolearn.co The Dance to Learn Podcast airs every Wednesday at 9:00am MT on Apple, Spotify and YouTube. We discuss what somatics is, the principles it is based in, and where it fits within/alongside theoretical frameworks and motor learning. Edel suggests what a somatic approach might be able to give us in dance training, discussing the potential benefits and the importance of experience. The covid pandemic really turned the dance industry upside down and in March of 2020, dance teachers around the world moved to teaching virtually. Some chose to share their class via social media like Facebook or Instagram, while others brought their class to Zoom. Anyway, they chose to do it, teaching online provided greater accessibility to dancers who wouldn't have the opportunity to take teachers classes in person. In this episode, Brandon talks about his own teaching journey and how to start your own process of teaching online. There are a lot of tough realities we have to face when it comes to teaching and teaching online specifically. How to we confront and overcome these challenges and create a class that serves our students needs? The ideas shared in this episode will help you find more joy and confidence as you start teaching online.
