In this episode, Ali Mezey share the concept of 'Soma' as illuminated by Master Bodyworker and Author, Thomas Hanna, in his book The Body of Life. Thomas Hanna coined the term 'somatic' now used extensively by practitioners of many body-based disciplines - he is one of the grandfathers of body therapy practiced all over the world in infinite variation. in this episode, Ali reads  out of the introductory chapter which discussing the distinction between the physical body and the living, dynamic 'Soma' and dives into the broader context of human embodiment. Hanna's body of work, and this episode, offer a profound perspective on the interconnectedness, adaptability, and intrinsic intelligence of living systems. He was 61.Born November 21, 1928, in Waco, Texas, Hanna was the founder of the Novato Institute for Somatic Research and Training in Novato, California and the editor of Somatics: Magazine-Journal of the Bodily Arts and Sciences. He also authored seven books, perhaps best know for Bodies in Revolt: A Primer in Somatic Thinking (1970) and Somatics (1989).Hanna is survived by his wife, Eleanor Criswell, and three children, daughters Tad Hanna and Wendell Zitelman , and son Michael Hanna. As an undergraduate at Texas Christian University from which he received a bachelor's in 1949, Hanna initially thought about going into theology. He continued studies at the University of Chicago, later receiving a Bachelor of Divinity and then a doctorate in philosophy.Hanna taught in Europe and several colleges throughout the U.S. At his memorial service held, Aug. 12, several people referred to his popularity as a teacher. One speaker recalled an incident while Hanna was teaching at the University of Florida. He was having car trouble and was going to be late getting to his class. He called his secretary as asked her to notify the class that he would be there but would arrive late. When he did arrive an hour and a half late, the class of 700 yoga students was still waiting for him in the ROTC quadrangle where the class met. Truly he was an engaging teacher. His commitment and involvement with his material, as well as his skill at communicating it, inspired his students. In his early seminal books, he posed philosophical questions about humanity, i.e. what is it to be human, to be embodied, to be free? Those questions run like themes though his work. They were questions he never ceased exploring. In the early 1970's, after reading Bodies in Revolt, a well-known member of the bodywork world suggested he meet and study with Moshe Feldenkrais. As a result, Hanna studied with Feldenkrais in 1973 and 1974, and organized the first four-year Feldenkrais training program in the U.S. in 1975. He also founded the Novato Institute in 1975.Hanna considered himself a writer, philosopher and teacher, not a bodyworker. He called the hands-on work Clinical Somatic Education. It was his strong belief that real change can only occur from within and not be imposed on someone from the outside. It is the difference between working on someone and working with someone. The goal was not to change tissue but to restore awareness and voluntary control over the sensory-motor system. He believed that people were affected by a condition he termed sensory motor amnesia (SMA), and his work was designed to correct this. The concept of SMA is that if you lose your awareness of a part of your body, either through trauma or habituation, you lose your ability o move that part. Restoring awareness restores voluntary control. This can then be reinforced with simple movement patterns similar to Feldenkrais movement.Hanna often referred to F.M. Alexander and Feldenkrais as important teachers for him. According to Hanna, Feldenkrais has made a tremendously important discovery about body function, but hadn't fully explored the implications of that discovery himself. Hanna used the analogy that Feldenkrais had opened the door to a vast new territory, but had not gone inside to explore. Hanna had gone through the door and was exploring this new territory in light of recent development in neurophysiology, and the implications were breathtaking. Feldenkrais had said, and Hanna reiterated, that there is no limit what people can learn. In an editorial last fall/winter, Hanna wrote about human mortality, analogizing it with his flowers:“There was only one difference between the flowers and me: the impatiens affirmed the eternity of life, and I did not. The impatiens were pure in the way they lived, and I was sullied with contradiction…I realized that, all things considered, it was the impatiens who lived life to the fullest, whereas I was living my life, hamstrung. It was not I who was superior, but they…Is total affirmation of life and growth the highest good, or is it some kind of sinful ignorance? Should I live awaiting the end that I have envisaged, or should I live expecting only life and only future?“Who is wiser? I, or the impatiens? I think the impatiens are wiser. They assume only what they know and feel. They do not assume something they do not know and feel…“And so I water my impatiens this summer and into the autumn. And I gaze at their happy innocence. They are my teachers, just as my mother is my teacher. And the water sinks down into the soil, giving life. It is the same soil from which I sprang and my mother sprang. And it is the same soil that will receive us both.“If I trusted it to give us life at the beginning, I might just as well trust it to give us life at the end. In that way, I have joined in a wisdom that tells me that my mother, my flowers, and I myself are now together and somehow will always be.”- Victoria Carmona, a student of Hanna's, contributed to this report. From Massa...

In the quiet aftermath of a personal storm, Scott Forrester found solace and strength in the Feldenkrais method. His journey is not just about physical recovery; it's a poignant narrative of resilience amid life's harshest trials – loss, grief, and reinvention.Forrester's story began with an accident that challenged conventional healing methods. Physical therapy couldn't mend what was broken within him. Then he realized that our struggles often lie deeper than muscle or bone—nestle in the intricate dance between mind and body.Through Feldenkrais, Forrester teaches us to listen—to really listen—to our bodies whispers before they become screams. This method isn't confined to those seeking physical relief; it extends its embrace to anyone yearning for emotional liberation from grief's heavy chains. His tale weaves through his own tapestry of loss—of loved ones who have passed on but whose presence still guide him like unseen stars guiding sailors home. He speaks candidly about embracing life as a way to honor those we've lost rather than being anchored by their absence. But this isn't just a story about coping with sorrow—it's also one of profound love. Over 50 years married, Forrester learned that marriage thrives on more than promises—it blossoms through unspoken understandings, shared growth, and enduring friendship.Scott Forrester stands as a testament to living fully—not despite losses—but because of them, transforming pain into purposeful strides forward...into awareness...into hope.RESOURCES:Book | The Aware AthleteThe Faldenkrais MethodCONNECT:WebsiteFacebookInstagram_______NEED HELP?National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255Crisis Text Line provides free, 24/7 support via text message. Transforming lives through healing traumaReactions to overwhelming experiences, danger and mortal threat are adaptive physiological functions of necessity but if the physiological processes cannot return to baseline in a reasonable timeframe the result can impact our future on physiological, cognitive, behavioral, spiritual and relational level. It is called trauma reaction. What are basis for understanding these maladaptive patterns? How they can change to become less rigid, more stable and flexible? What is the differences between acute danger and pervasive trauma? What can we do on daily basis to heal and transform traumas?Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented modality that helps heal trauma and other stress disorders. Developed by Peter Levine, Ph.D., it is the result of the multidisciplinary study of stress physiology, psychology, ethology, biology, neuroscience, indigenous healing practices, and medical biophysics, with more than 45 years of successful application. SE resolves symptoms of stress, shock, and trauma that accumulate in our bodies. When we are stuck in patterns of fight, flight, or freeze, SE helps to release, recover, and become more resilient. How are traumatic memories stored in the body? How has Somatic Experiencing helped thousands of people release the symptoms of trauma through bodily practices rather than talky therapy? How did Peter resolve his own devastating childhood trauma? What will a trauma aware society be like? In this episode we have the fascinating question of the different ways traumatic memories are stored to think about, and how the body itself and not only the brain is instrumental in the way the memory's are made and processed, and so in how we might ease the symptoms of the trauma later on. We're going to delve into the brain-body connection in traumatic memory, looking at the way trauma can influence our bodily states and so in turn the way we can use bodily methods in a bottom-up approach, to re-train the brain to feel safe and integrate traumatic memories.  For this there can be no better person than the psychotherapist, Dr. Peter Levine, the creator of the Somatic Experiencing therapy method, founder of the Institute of Somatic Education and author of many books on trauma and therapy, including “Waking the Tiger”, “Healing Trauma”, “Trauma Through a Childs Eyes”, “Trauma and Memory” which we'll be discussing today, and his brand new book, which this episode is happy to celebrate the release of “An autobiography of Trauma: A healing Journey”. Minus 1 minute What we discuss: 00:00 Intro. 06:00 Conscious memories start earlier than we might imagine. 07:00 Descartes was wrong, better “I move, I sense, I feel, I have images, I have thoughts: therefore I am.” 07:30 The mid-1960's session with Nancy that started it all for Peter. 14:20 The 3 different nervous system bodily states: fight or flight, freeze and social engagement. 20:00 Body/Nervous system bi-directionality: Influences between Polyvagal theory and Somatic Experiencing. 26:00 Exercises to switch the hyper-aroused message coming from the body. 29:00 Animal kingdom research into ‘shaking off' daily life threatening experiences. 31:00 The very sensations that help animals release, are scary to us so we block them. 31:40 Vitality, movement and exuberance VS a disembodied society. 33:20 As children we learn to limit our exuberance, so as not to disturb adults. 35:30 Different types of memory and the role of the body in recording them. 36:00 Declarative conscious memory. 36:45 Autobiographical conscious memory. 38:30 Emotional unconscious memory (associative). 39:00 Procedural/body unconscious memories (to protect oneself). 39:45 Peter as Chiron “The Woundd Healer” archetype. 45.10 Being heard, witnessed and listened to: why reflection and mirroring are important. 47:00 “I don't think there is consciousness without being mirrored”. 47:40 A trauma aware society. 51:00 Being heard and mirrored leads to resilience. 54:00 Peter's devastating childhood trauma and shame: “An Autobiography of Trauma” 57:00 Confronting shame tends to intensify it. 59:30 Why share such a personal vulnerable story with the world? 01:01:00 The dream that helped him choose whether or not to publish this deeply personal story. 01:02:20 Encouraging others to tell their stories: cathartic sharing. 01:04:45 Sharing vulnerability with the compassionate other. 01:05:30 Is trauma required to transform or is it just an inevitability of life? 01:07:00 Trauma is a rite of passage towards being truly compassionate. 01:07:40 Gabor Mate, “Compassionate Enquiry”. 01:08:00 Curiosity can't co-exist with fear, use it to shift the process. Please welcome Efu Nyaki to Lifeyness! Efu is a seasoned a therapist and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner with Dr. Peter Levine's Ergos Institute of Somatic Education. We are talking about overcoming personal trauma and anxiety to live a happier and more joyful life.  SE® is a healing modality that takes a more holistic approach to mental health, a psychologicaltherapy that takes the body into consideration. Soma means body. This mind/body approach comes in different forms but one of its guiding principles is that trauma can be trapped in the body and expressed in posture, facial expressions, tone of voice, and even muscular pain.  Invented by renowned psychologist Dr. Peter Levine, "The Somatic Experiencing® method is a body-oriented approach to healing trauma and other stress disorders. It is based on a multidisciplinary study of stress physiology, ethology, biology, neuroscience, psychology, and indigenous healing practices, together with over 50 years of successful clinical application."   Today's episode is all about embracing playfulness, healing from trauma, and the transformative power of embodiment. Efu, originally from Tanzania, is a legacy faculty member of the Ergos Institute of Somatic Experiencing and a co-founder of AFYA, a women's holistic healing center where she now lives in Brazil. Efu has dedicated her life to helping  people reconnect with their bodies and find healing from trauma, especially women from war-torn areas and underserved communities through her work with the Maryknoll sisters. Somatic Experiencing focuses on the body's innate ability to heal itself from trauma, allowing individuals to restore their sense of safety, resilience, and aliveness. One of the key goals in healing trauma, as Efu will explain, is to get back to a state of playful curiosity, the same way that animals in the wild can quickly return to equilibrium after surviving a would-be predator. Humans seem to hold onto trauma more so than other animals. So listen up for tips on how to overcome everyday stress and trauma such as anxiety and become more functional in your own life!   To find more information about Efu's practice check out this link, and to see the website for Dr. Peter Levine's Ergos Institute of Somatic Education please click here   Please connect with me @book_of_lifeyness on Instagram

Featured teacher for Vocal Health Education and co-host of the Thinking Voice podcast, Robert Sussuma joins Alexa this week on Singing Teachers Talk. He's here to discuss how you can develop a singer's self awareness and clarifying intention. Robert will also be presenting at BAST's Focus On: The Body and the Singer event on the 27th of June.    KEY TAKEAWAYS Feldenkrais lessons are designed to work at the level where your system runs the system. They update you from within at this deep core nervous system level so that when you go to do things in a more conscious way, then the system is already there to support you.  In the Feldenkrais method there are two modalities for doing this, functional integration which is hands on and none verbal, and the other version is awareness through movement or ATMs, which are verbally led.  Teaching someone to become self aware involves a lot of novelty, telling them to do something strange or something they know how to do but in a totally new way. It's tricking the nervous system into paying attention through novelty.  These awareness lessons are like experiments outside of life that get deep into the system. When you come back to life, if the system has truly changed, there is a change in the self image, in the nervous system, in the foundation of how you act. The lesson will automatically have an effect on that action when you do that action again.    BEST MOMENTS ‘I have a student who calls it updating the motherboard'  ‘Working with novelty is really effective but strange compared to what most people do'  ‘The lesson isn't what we do, it's what we're learning having done it'  ‘We can all do the same lesson and learn something different'    EPISODE RESOURCES  BAST Training  Guest Website: @robert_sussuma   Relevant Links & Mentions:  BAST Focus On The Body & The Singer Event: https://www.basttraining.com/event/focus-on-the-body-and-the-singer/ Vocal Health Education: vocalhealth.co.uk The Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education  Thinking Voice Podcast - The Endings Conversation: https://open.spotify.com/episode/4WPhNUEgbRulnsf6OBd313?si=6e04fa1041bb4d38 Vocology in Practice: www.vocologyinpractice.org Singing Teachers Talk Podcast - Ep. 32 - The Bio-Psycho-Social Model with Stephen King: https://open.spotify.com/episode/4R13bvilWjwQnd9WOfTiVc?si=1ffb4c437bdd4f34 The Joys of Singing and Sex?!? - A Somatic Approach (Blog): https://thesingingself.com/joys-of-singing-and-sex-somatic-approach/ Sense and Sensuality Event: https://thesingingself.com/voice-incorporated-2022-sense-and-sensuality/   ABOUT THE GUEST  Robert Sussuma, a native New Yorker, is an explorer, a life-long learner and a connoisseur of connections: movement, speaking and singing, voice science, emotions, music history, motor learning, existentialism, neurology-in-action, consciousness and deep personal development - to name a few. Posture is an incredibly loaded topic in our culture. If you've been involved in yoga for any time you've been receiving messages about posture that may not be helping you. We have hundreds of not thousands of sources daily telling us that our bad posture is the cause of maladies such as chronic pain functional movement issues breathing issues and more. The problem with these well meaning sources of advice, is that they are not evidence-based. We don't really have any evidence to show that "poor posture" can cause chronic pain, in fact the opposite is true with regard to neck pain especially. We see that hypervigilance towards posture seems to be associated with higher levels of neck pain. So this class is designed to help you update your understanding of your posture. I'm hoping to provide a very affirmative experience for you regarding the areas of the body that we typically associate with the posture the upper back the chest the shoulders and the neck.Learn the Yoga Yoga Pose Repertoire through simple daily lessons and practices. When teaching, she encourages her students to be actively involved in their own enquiries so that they find their own path that is honest and true to themselves. Her sessions are known for their explorative nature and are fun and light yet profound. When working with clients, there will be a dialogue first in order to find out what the client is looking for out of a session, then begin weaving the process together with the client. It might be a combination of an on-going dialogue, guided movement practice or following the client's spontaneous movement, hands on work, grounding & centring practice, meditation, breath work, drawing, writing, studying through anatomy, psycho-educational talk and discussion. A constant attention is given explicit / implicitly to the state of the nervous system throughout. One yoga student described her “She is poetic, yet grounded. Focuses on working directly with the nervous system to help people reorganize the non-conscious survival adaptations developed by the sub-cortical or lower brain Definition of Somatic Experiencingthe experience of body in the present moment. What SE Looks Like in PracticePresent-centered because the healing happens in the here-and-now. It’s a process of following what is is happening in the body and taking a pause from the trauma content to down-regulate the amygdala to a state of safety before moving forward. “The trauma’s not in the event. It’s in the nervous system.”The Nervous SystemGetting “Unstuck” – Healing Trauma Through Body Awareness Pendulation – Peter Levine defines that as the expansion of contraction of all things moving between expanded States and contracted States. Orienting Exercise The Biological Model of the Threat Response CycleWild Animals Versus Humans During Threat Cycle:  Orient – aware of something in environment Defensive Orienting – sense threat Moving Into Social Interaction – Moving Into Fight and Flight – these are active defense responses Increased sympathetic arousal, burst of movements, Moving Into Freeze – passive defense response Heart rate goes into a slow state like for hibernation. Digestion slows down, hello heart rate variability circulation. There’s nothing pumping to the arms and the legs, so everything shifts into this near death state Back to Exploratory Orienting Working With the Nervous SystemTracking Sensation – describing sensations happening in the body as they are happening Noticing Movement Patterns – acknowledging the shifts that occur Completion of Defensive Responses – allowing the body to carry out the response desired (runnint, punching, kicking, etc) but VERY SLOWLY Sympathetic Discharge When Coming Out of Freeze or Down From High Sympathetic Charge Impala and the Baboon Video (https://youtu.be/UN-9aljzsFg) Grounding Exercise Neuroception vs InteroceptionNeuroception is the lower brain assessment of safety/threat in the environment. The Foundations of Somatic Experiencing (SE) Founded by Dr Peter Levine – author of best-selling books “Waking the Tiger- Healing Trauma”, and “In an Unspoken Voice” SE is based on the study of how animals in the wild process and recover from stress and trauma. Focuses on working directly with the nervous system to help people reorganize the non-conscious survival adaptations developed by the sub-cortical or lower brain Definition of Somatic Experiencing the experience of body in the present moment. What SE Looks Like in Practice Present-centered because the healing happens in the here-and-now. It’s a process of following what is is happening in the body and taking a pause from the trauma content to down-regulate the amygdala to a state of safety before moving forward. “The trauma’s not in the event. It’s in the nervous system.” The Nervous System Getting “Unstuck” – Healing Trauma Through Body Awareness Pendulation – Peter Levine defines that as the expansion of contraction of all things moving between expanded States and contracted States. Orienting Exercise The Biological Model of the Threat Response Cycle Wild Animals Versus Humans During Threat Cycle:  Orient – aware of something in environment Defensive Orienting – sense threat Moving Into Social Interaction – Moving Into Fight and Flight – these are active defense responses Increased sympathetic arousal, burst of movements, Moving Into Freeze – passive defense response Heart rate goes into a slow state like for hibernation. Digestion slows down, hello heart rate variability circulation. There’s nothing pumping to the arms and the legs, so everything shifts into this near death state Back to Exploratory Orienting Working With the Nervous System Tracking Sensation – describing sensations happening in the body as they are happening Noticing Movement Patterns – acknowledging the shifts that occur Completion of Defensive Responses – allowing the body to carry out the response desired (runnint, punching, kicking, etc) but VERY SLOWLY Sympathetic Discharge When Coming Out of Freeze or Down From High Sympathetic Charge Impala and the Baboon Video Grounding Exercise Neuroception vs Interoception Neuroception is the lower brain assessment of safety/threat in the environment. Interoception is the awareness of one’s own internal states and can be learned over time. Who is Dr Abi Blakeslee: Dr. Abi Blakeslee is faculty at the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute and Foundation for Human Enrichment. She is additionally Dr. Peter Levine’s legacy faculty at Ergos Institute for Somatic Education. Dr. Blakeslee holds a Ph.D. in Clinical and Somatic Psychology and is a licensed marriage and family therapist. Her dissertation, with a committee that included Dr. Daniel Siegel, generated original research on the role of implicit memory in healing trauma. Dr. Blakeslee integrates SE with clinical research, secondary trauma interventions, and the psychobiological principles of attachment and shock trauma. She treats individuals, couples, children and families in her clinical practice. Dr.

This week, we’re talking with Lucién Demaris & Cedar Landsman of Relational Uprising about individualism as a system of oppression; “heroic” cultures of organizing; indigenous traditions of healing in Ecuador; repairing rupture, suspicion, and judgment; and bridging as a form of increasing our ability to hold complexity in our movements. Recommended listening that this episode builds upon: Episode 20: Relational Culture with Mark Fairfield. Download the corresponding practice (32 Practice: Relational Inclusion) to join Cedar in learning how to inquire appreciatively into what we may be inclined to judge, reject, exclude, dismiss, or devalue about another’s experience. We see what new information this brings to us, helping us to see beyond our own entrenched perspective. SHAIR 82: “Healing the Wounds of Childhood” with Dr. Don St. John, delving into the human experience.

Don St. John joins us on The SHAIR Podcast, the author of Healing the Wounds of Childhood. In his book, Don shares his personal story and discoveries about what our bodies, our minds and understanding of what it means to be a whole human being and what your relationships need in order to heal from the wounds, the traumas and the toxic stress of life. He also takes us through his battle with addiction and his own journey of recovery. Dr. Don St John has spent over 45 years engaging the process of becoming whole, both personally and professionally, as well as in his own relationship. Most of today's social problems have the same roots—a lack of understanding of what it means to be a whole human being. What if violence, illness, addictions, suicides, toxic stress, depression, anxiety and relationship dysfunctions could be traced to the same source? The implications for education, childrearing and our comprehension of mental and physical health would be staggering. What does it mean to be a “whole human being?” What is “wholeness?” There are four different dimensions we consider. All are separate and all are deeply interrelated. Each influences and is influenced by every other. They are: Somatic Education, Psychological Growth, Relationship Enrichment and Spirituality. Insufficient understanding or lack of support in any of these four dimensions constitutes a wound to the integrity of our organism. As we grow our appreciation and understanding of our dimensionality, recognize where we have been unsupported, suppressed or otherwise wounded, we have a map necessary to effectively continue our journey towards wholeness. There is no end to the opportunities and possibilities to grow into a fuller human being. We can heal into wholeness and well beyond “normal.” If you're looking for something more than just talking about your problems, and you know intuitively that your body is somehow related to what you would like to address, you may be an excellent candidate for what he does. He began his clinical training in 1967 and has been working since as a psychotherapist, relationship therapist and somatic therapist. Over the past few years he has been helping people realize how many more resources they have available within themselves, to learn to connect to those resources and strengths, plus learn to connect well with those they love. The only way to have any real idea of what he does is to invest in one session, after which you will know if it is right for you.

Running technique expert, Jae Gruenke of The Balanced Runner™, lists the top two habits of bad running form (Hint: look at your hips and gait), return Runner of the Week, Jackie Thomas, talks about how she found TRLS and how running has changed her life, Mike Clarke, founder of the Big Beach Marathon, previews race course nutrition, and Serena Marie, RD, talks about a popular New Year's Resolution—to cut out diet soda—and gives some no-calorie and low-calorie healthy drink options. Kari also gives shout outs and housekeeping tidbits at the end of the episode. Jae Gruenke Jae Gruenke, owner of The Balanced Runner™, rocks Kari's world by taking a different approach in talking about proper running form. Learn how to run naturally and efficiently. Jae tells listeners what a running form (US term) or running technique (UK term) expert does. She details how she took her Bachelor's degree in literary studies and being a professional dancer in college to become a running technique expert. Listen to why she was offended by running and how she went about solving it. She explores why gait and posture affect our running forms. Learn about the Alexander Technique and the Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education. Sometimes when runners try to change their forms, that can be the worst thing to do. She shares what makes her cringe as a form expert—including how runners swing their arms (which affects foot strike) and how people try to apply what are considered the rules of posture to running (“posture is for posts”). Jae shares how to position your head when running, how to shift your hips properly (which can lead to IT band issues if done improperly), how to lean from your ankles, and how to tip your pelvis from side to side. Learn why Jae thinks stability shoes are heavy, and they interfere with your ability to use your arch as a spring. Find a way to make running feel natural and safe. Better running form should feel easier. Jae offers free running lessons, so check out her website here. She debunks the “run from heel to toe” theory and details why running tired can actually produce a better form. She tells Kari the three reasons why cross country runners tend to have better form. Check out her Indie Go campaign here.     Runner of the Week: Jackie Thomas “J Thom” (from Episode #72) joins Kari again to talk about how she found TRLS, why she listens, and how running has changed her life. She found TRLS through an iTunes search and wanted something to distract her from her longer runs. She loves TRLS because it's not intimidating and it gives practical tips. Check out her blog post that started it all here. Jackie explains her involvement in the TRLS blog. There will be water and blue Gatorade (Glacier Freeze) every 1.5–2.0 miles and Gu (one being Chocolate Outrage) at Miles 18 and 23 or 24. He answers the all-important question of how Race Directors figure out how many portable toilets to have on half marathon and marathon courses. Toilets will be available around the following miles: 3.5, 5, 8, 10, 12, 16, and 21. There's a 1:50 ratio of toilets to runners.
