We are officially past the launch weekend for Nintendo Switch 2 and we wanted to dig into an interesting topic about the lessons Nintendo learned from this launch. This is something we know Nintendo is discussing right now inside the company as they examine what went wrong and right with this launch. They did some things well but they also had some challenging moments too but most importantly, did Nintendo learn some "wrong" lessons? We discuss it all here. Also in this episode, we have some fresh thoughts about Switch 2 after spending a whole weekend with the system and we are playing A TON of new Switch 2 games (over 10 wow!). We wrap up a beefy episode with questions from our Patreon subscribers. In this episode, David Wollinsky, author of The Hivemind Swarmed: Conversations on Gamergate, the Aftermath, and the Quest for a Safer Internet, and Sam Close, Assistant Professor at DePaul University College of Communication, join us to unpack systemic challenges in the video game industry. From gender and racial discrimination to toxic workplace culture, they highlight the need for moral courage, ethical decision-making, and structural changes to foster a more inclusive and equitable environment. The discussion revisits key moments like Gamergate, a flashpoint that exposed deep-seated harassment, and explores movements like the "girls game movement" that sought to empower women in gaming. Despite progress through women-led initiatives and increased awareness, the industry continues to grapple with significant barriers to inclusion and diversity. Here are some of the references from this episode, for those who want to dig a little deeper:The Hivemind Swarmed: Conversations on Gamergate, the Aftermath, and the Quest for a Safer InternetGamergate - WikipediaGamergate | Summary, Facts, & Zoe Quinn | BritannicaWhat Gamergate should have taught us about the 'alt-right'Atari founder Nolan Bushnell on why life is 'a game'Purple MoonWhat makes a AAA game a AAA game?Party Like It's 1995: The Rise and Fall of the Girl GameThe ‘Girl Games' of the '90s Were Fun and FeministThe Three Theories of Criminal JusticeConclave on IMDb, official trailerWatch the uncensored moment Will Smith smacks Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars, drops F-bombMetacriticBooks Mentioned:Broad Band: The Untold Story of the Women Who Made the Internet by Claire L. The gaming landscape is shifting beneath our feet, and we're here to guide you through the tremors. This week, we dive deep into the Nintendo Switch 2 phenomenon as pre-orders vanish instantly and retailers prepare their displays for the imminent launch. But as excitement builds, a shadow looms: the controversial "game key cards" that threaten true physical ownership of your games.Against this digital tide stands CD Projekt RED, boldly declaring that Cyberpunk 2077 for Switch 2 will be fully playable from the cartridge—no massive downloads required. "This is the right thing to do," they proclaimed, as collectors and preservation enthusiasts breathed a collective sigh of relief. We explore why this stance matters in an era where physical media fights for relevance, and what it means for the future of game collections. The technological frontier marches forward relentlessly as Doom: The Dark Age promises kaiju-fighting mechs and dragon-riding mayhem, requiring ever-more-powerful hardware to experience. Meanwhile, Microsoft's strategy undergoes a seismic shift with Xbox franchises potentially heading to PlayStation and a new ASUS handheld collaboration raising eyebrows. In this episode of Geek Freaks, Frank and Squeaks sit down with middle school teacher Mark Daumier, who's using comic books to revolutionize how kids engage with reading. Mark shares how he turned his love of comics into a classroom staple, building a library of over 14,000 comics and using them to teach visual literacy, historical events, and critical thinking. If you're a fan of comics, games, or how pop culture shapes education, this one's for you. Mark Daumier uses over 14,000 comics in his curriculum, including creative assignments like comic-style reports. Comics like Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns are powerful but carefully used depending on student maturity. Star Wars, Captain America, and Spider-Man continue to resonate with students. The Vision series and Jocasta casting hint at deeper Marvel storytelling on the horizon. EA's canceled Black Panther game reflects broader industry issues. The Switch 2 launches with improvements but raises concerns about internet requirements. Original stories from Disney and Pixar are in demand more than retellings. Memorable Quotes: “If you read 20–25 comic books, that's the same as reading a novel.” — Mark Daumier “Comics help kids visualize what they're reading. That unlocks everything else.” — Mark Daumier “I was like, can I teach in your class now?” — Frank Lourence “Nintendo throws stuff at the wall to see what sticks. Sometimes they reinvent the industry.” — Squeaks Call to Action: Love what you heard? Subscribe to Geek Freaks on your favorite podcast platform and leave us a review. Welcome to Spitting Nonsense—where two self-proclaimed amateurs, Jasmine and Zach, chat about all things nerdy (and plenty that's not). None of this is fact, but it's definitely our brand of nonsense! We're still recording regularly—no promises on hitting exact days anymore—but you can always count on us for plenty of off-the-wall commentary. And now, you can leave comments on Spotify! Tell us what's on your mind; we see every comment and might even respond on the show. Thanks for listening, and enjoy the nonsense!
Send us a textWilliam Gibson described Cyberpunk as a fusion of high-tech and low-life, exploring the intersection of technology, cybernetics, and computer networks on human society in a near-future, often dystopian setting. If you don't know who William Gibson is then shame on you.Like most people out there, my first exposure to Cyberpunk was Blade Runner. The 1982 movie by Ridley Scott blew me away. After that I watched movies like Freejack and Johnny Mnemonic, Akira, and Ghost in the Shell. it wasn't until the late 90's that I started diving into the literary world of Cyberpunk with Nuromancer and Snowcrash.I loved the setting, the style, the tech, and the action, but I never got into the roleplaying games. I heard about Cyberpunk, and Cyberpunk 2020. But for some strange reason I never picked them up.Then Mike asked me if I was interested in playing Cyberpunk Red.I jumped at the chance.Mike ran our group though almost a year of Cyberpunk using the Cyberpunk Red rules and we have recently started up again focusing more on the Edgerunner 2077 expansion for Cyberpunk Red.After that much game time, we got opinions. In this episode Mike, Christina and I are going to give you an honest, unbiased review of Cyberpunk Red.But before we do that, Christina, break down the legalese for us.[Kick to Christina so she can go on about how we haven't been paid or compensated in any way for our opinion and we bought the shit with money out of our own pocket.]Now Mike, Start us off on our review of Cyberpunk Red.

Clément "Kero" Renault wanted to be an architect when he was younger. During that time, he also learned about computers and built his first website - and he never stopped building. Funny story, he lost that first website cause it wasn't on Git. Outside of his professional life, he likes to draw, craft and to cook. He also enjoys video games, and mentioned Hidden Reign was his favorite game of all time, alongside the likes of Cyberpunk.Seven years ago, Kero was in school, and he wanted to build a solid search experience, but not just a general search - one that indexed your data, and allowed you to have a "Google" just for your info. After winning a school hackathon, Kero and his mates wanted to take it to the next level. This is the creation story of Meilisearch.SponsorsPaddle.comSema SoftwarePropelAuthLinkshttps://www.meilisearch.com/https://www.linkedin.com/in/kerollmops/Our Sponsors:* Check out Kinsta: https://kinsta.com* Check out Vanta: https://vanta.com/CODESTORYSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/code-story/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Featuring: AmmosArt, Ashgar, Belghast, Grace, Kodra, and Tamrielo Hey Folks! We are down a Thalen this week, but that is mostly because he was up visiting Bel Town, so Bel talks a bit about that. Kodra discusses how playing a lot of Blue Prince has ruined his brain for every other game… especially Cyberpunk 2077. It is Path of Exile 3.26 Spoiler Season, and Bel talks about some of the quality of life changes coming. Tam shares his experiences with Skin Deep and why it may not be the “sandbox stealth” game that it is purported to be. Kodra and Tam talk about their experiences playing Lorelei and the Laser Eyes “Co-Op” without official support for that. The early looter shooter Defiance makes a return, and Bel talks about that, and then Tam shares the realization that given enough time, you massively improve almost anything that you try… in his case, painting miniatures. Topics Discussed: Blue Prince Rewires Brain Path of Exile 3.26 Spoiler Season Skin Deep Fuga: Melodies of Steel 3 Lorelei and the Laser Eyes “Co-Op” Defiance Returns Painting Realization
