https://linktr.ee/thunderinglegion Today we interview Air Force Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) William “Buck” Buckingham who throughout his career flew the C-17 Spec Ops, C-130J initial cadre, C-32 (Boeing 757) at the 89th Air Wing. Episode Notes: Background: Navy Enlisted 1990, Embry Riddle AFROTC, Laughlin Pilot Training, C-17 Spec Ops & Weapons School, CJSC, ACSC Testimony: Refining process in bootcamp. Personal encounter with God (through Gideon Bible on aircraft carrier) in April 1992 then whole family came to Christ after him. Deviated from faith during Air Force career and went through a divorce and came back to place of repentance. Successes and failures: Parallels between teaching and applying the Word and instructing in aviation. Personal trauma with older daughter after divorce. Must trust God in the brokenness in family. Lots of alcohol consumption while traveling on high-dollar accounts. When we gain success and power by God's grace, we tend to become prideful. Became distracted by work and began drinking to numb marital challenges at home. Broke down in 2015 when daughter alienated by fallout of divorce. Calling: We were created for one purpose: worship. We get worship wrong which lead to all kinds of consequences. Called to ministry to trauma cases. People who are contrite in heart are closer to God than those who are self-righteous (the Pharisees). Psalm 51:17. Secular counseling programs don't go deep enough to really deal with the heart issues underlying addiction. Core issue of addiction was that God was not #1. Favorite Books of the Bible: Philippians 2:12 work out salvation in fear and trembling, because God is working through us for His joy. Daily Spiritual Growth: 0400 reading Bible for 2 hours. Need quiet in the mornings: Lamentations 3:23. Spiritual experience to wake up unhurried early and see creation anticipate dawn. Becoming Biblically literate with “spiritual breakfast” Advice: Look to warriors of the faith like Joshua. Seek the Lord daily. God's people are all over the world and He has us in our current position for a purpose. Be focused on where you are at the time. Be the change. Don't get pulled into the distraction. Our purpose in life is to worship God first and foremost. God' word will help us live our best life. Contact Buck: jherc06@gmail.com Reflect: What does this episode reveal about God's character? In the “AIM” Series Dr. Kennetra A. Bryant targets in on how God purposefully placed desires, goals, and AIMS in our hearts to fulfill. It is our responsibility to seek God's guidance regarding the AIMS we are aiming towards. As one begins the process of achieving their AIMS it is of extreme importance to discern the intent, motive, and nature of one's AIMS and honestly ask the question, Are the AIMS I am pursuing God-honoring or Self-Seeking? Holding one's AIMS under the light of God's WORD will provide the answers needed on whether one needs drop their self-seeking AIMS or yield their God-honoring AIMS to God. The AIM is to glorify Our Heavenly Father with every AIM we desire to achieve. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/aimtowardsthetarget/support
Humans are animals that desire. Unlike animal instinct, which is fixed on predetermined objects and cannot change, desire is always a desire for a higher being - for transcendence - and is determined for us by our models, or mediators, or idols, whom we believe to possess that higher, transcendental being. However, the truth is that no human being possesses transcendence. Our erroneous belief in its earthly existence causes all kinds of trouble by making us miserable, envious, greedy, etc.
Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Alyssa: My daughter (2 years old) has developed severe food allergies to peas, lentils, green beans and most recently sesame and chickpeas. We had to use her epi pen for sesame and chickpeas about 4 months ago and these were foods she had previously without any reaction. Fortunately we had her EpiPen for the previous known allergies so we were able to address the multi systemic reaction to the sesame and chickpeas. We have been working with her pediatrician, an allergist, and also a local ND and have incorporated D3, fish oil and acacia powder into her diet along with her probiotics (variety, sometimes I give her the ones I get from you) and a multivitamin. She had eczema as a baby so I put her on a gluten and dairy free diet and the skin issues seem to clear up. Not wanting to restrict a toddler‘s diet too much, we incorporated the dairy and gluten back in. I strive for Whole-based foods, fruits and vegetables, but she can be a very picky eater and most of the gluten and dairy free items such as the cheese she used to eat has chickpea or pea protein in it. What else can I do for my 2-year-old to make sure we never have to use the epi pen again? Any tests or protocols okay for her age to find out what's happening w/ her immune system? She is 25lbs. Natasha: Hi Dr Cabral, thank you for all the incredible work you do! As a former patient of yours, and now student in IHP2, I'm a big fan of your work and mission. As I will soon be working with clients as an IHP and recommending protocols, I would love to be able to recommend the DNS. However, I recently purchased it to use myself after years of being away from it, and am surprised at the “other ingredients.” I am curious to learn why natural flavors are included (versus pure extracts for flavor) and what those consist of, as well as sugar and salt? I'm surprised they are included at all, but They don't even say coconut sugar, Himalayan salt, or one of the other “clean versions” of these ingredients. These are all ingredients I tell my clients to watch out for so I know there would be questions involved if I recommend a product that includes them, and would love to have more insight to help explain that. Thank you in advance, looking forward to hearing back! Anonymous: Hi, hope you're well… What do you think about yoni pearls? Thank you, have a great week ahead! Simon: Hi Dr Cabral, I've been tracking my sleep for the last 18 months with an OURA ring. My deep sleep is quite good however I appear to get very little REM sleep (typically 15-45min). Apart from sleep timing, are you aware of any supplements or practices which affect amount of REM sleep you get? Thanks! Ryan: Hey Doc. I have gone through IHP 1-2, done all of the protocols for improved health that equi life has to offer besides the mold. My question is in regards to deviated septum's and wanted to get your latest take since I know you deal with it as well. I believe I was born with mine. Obviously I focus on gut health and lowering histamine. That does reduce some inflammation. But even at my best, my left nostril just cannot oxygenate very well. I have a cone beam scan that shows the reduced airways which I got done to check on my oral health. I do not want surgery but really want a better option than what I got. What's frustrating is when I do cardio, such as HIIT sprints. My recovery is so much fast if I pull a part my nostrils in between sets. That alone does make me consider surgery to widen it. Because of the major difference I feel when I peel my nostrils out. This must have a dramatic impact on stress in my body if I can't breath well naturally. Is there a directory for finding holistic ENTs or something of the sort? Natalie: What do you think about sole water and are there benefits to drinking a tsp of it in your water daily? Romans 1:18-32; 3:1-2418 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people who suppress the truth by their unrighteousness, 19 because what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world his invisible attributes—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, because they are understood through what has been made. So people are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or give him thanks, but they became futile in their thoughts and their senseless hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for an image resembling mortal human beings or birds or four-footed animals or reptiles.24 Therefore God gave them over in the desires of their hearts to impurity, to dishonor their bodies among themselves. 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshiped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.26 For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged the natural sexual relations for unnatural ones, 27 and likewise the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed in their passions for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what should not be done. 29 They are filled with every kind of unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, malice. They are rife with envy, murder, strife, deceit, hostility. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, contrivers of all sorts of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 senseless, covenant-breakers, heartless, ruthless. 32 Although they fully know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but also approve of those who practice them.10 just as it is written:“There is no one righteous, not even one,11 there is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God.12 All have turned away, together they have become worthless;there is no one who shows kindness, not even one.”13 “Their throats are open graves, they deceive with their tongues, the poison of asps is under their lips.”14 “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood,16 ruin and misery are in their paths,17 and the way of peace they have not known.”18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world may be held accountable to God. 20 For no one is declared righteous before him by the works of the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin. 21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God (although it is attested by the law and the prophets) has been disclosed— 22 namely, the righteousness of God through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. 24 But they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

In this episode I talk about what has been going on with my sleep health and how I will be getting my Deviated Nasal Septum surgery. Overall health is very important to being a professional or entrepreneur. Most social media personalities or 'Influencers' maintain topnotch health. If you are scared of the doctor I highly suggest you make a commitment to go get yourself checked out and work on any issue you may have with your health that could be affecting your performance in other aspects of your life. If our health and sleep are not on point - neither will our dreams and aspirations.
Breathing through your nose is one of those basic things you take for granted until you can't do it anymore. Guest host Laura Cain talks with facial plastic surgeon Dr. Kiersten Riedler about nose surgery, specifically the septoplasty and rhinoplasty surgeries she does to fix the inside and outside of the nose. If you're used to going through life with restricted nasal passages, you might not even realize how much better it could be. The septoplasty is surgery to straighten or correct a deviated septum, while a rhinoplasty is surgery to change the shape of the nose for either cosmetic or functional purposes. If someone wants to change the inside of their nose as well as its outside structure, it can be done in two surgeries, but it's preferred to do them together (septorhinoplasty) because it's less time under anesthesia, less recovery, and easier on the surgeon. Laura asks Dr. Riedler all the questions people are too afraid to ask, from the impact of past cocaine use on the inside of her nose to her honest thoughts on Michael Jackson's nose. Even though nose surgery looks dramatic on tv shows like Botched, it doesn't require a hospital stay and Dr. Riedler reassures us that it's not that scary and you can go home the same day. Dr. Riedler discusses the ins and outs of recovery after a rhinoplasty and septoplasty, where to find reliable information about nose procedures, the revision rate for nose procedures, septal perforation caused by addiction and whether it is fixable, and more. Keeping the upper airway open Breathing while you sleep….it's kind of a big deal. So much so that things like a CPAP exist to save lives, open the airway, and get your body the oxygen it needs to survive. But is this the best option? What happens if you have a septal deviation? Are there any measures we can take to improve airway patency while we sleep, and even train!? To better understand what our options are, we have to look at what a CPAP actually does, and we need to have our bodies be able to do in its place if it's something we want to cease using. So too with nasal breathing. What are the components needed to breathe effectively through our noses? You'll get to find all this out today in this debrief. Orthodontic elastics - These are great cueing devices for tongue placement Nasal saline rinse - Clean your nostrils with this one. CPAP Question: My question for you has to do with the CPAP machine and why it could be bad? I know it's a steady flow of air that can affect the pressure in the ribcage, but can you explain this further? Would an APAP machine that does not have a constant flow of air be better? Or are there still risks? Watch the answer here. Answer: CPAP and APAP are devices that alter the pressure of the air you breathe in, which helps prevent the airway from collapsing while you sleep. Normally, we breathe through negative pressure. This means that as we breathe in, the diaphragm pulls downward, which creates a force that makes the airway and surrounding structures want to collapse inward. Fortunately, air getting pulled in the lungs helps maintain the shape, and life is good. But what happens if this negative pressure is so great that the airway collapses too far and you do not get adequate airflow? Well, now you aren't getting enough oxygen, which causes major problems. Like uh....death. A way to "fix" this is through positive airway pressure, which essentially has the reverse effect of negative pressure—creating expansion. Now I have a situation where I still create negative pressure from the diaphragm, but I change the pressurization of air coming into my body in a manner that allows the airway to fill. Life is good. There are three categories of devices you could go with to utilize this mechanism: Continuous (CPAP): Blows a constant stream of air in under a single set of pressure Automatic (APAP): Samples your breathing and determines what pressure you need to be at Bi-level (BiPAP): The pressure changes depending on the breath cycle. These devices are essential and life-saving for someone who has sleep apnea. This is especially true for central sleep apnea, where the brain causes the apneic events to occur. These devices can also mitigate many of the symptoms felt from sleep deprivation. So if you are someone with apnea, you most likely want to get one of these devices ASAP. In terms of which device you choose, the BiPAP will most likely make a full respiratory cycle occur more easily, but it's also more expensive. Your best bet is to coordinate with your sleep doc. Now before you read onward, let me be clear: PSA - Do not perform the following recommendations without consulting a physician first. This is not medical advice and is for entertainment purposes only. There are a few issues with using these devices as a treatment: Compliance is SUPER low. 50% of users after 1 year will stop. Several side effects can happen such as dry throat, difficulty falling asleep, etc. The device may not be fixing the problem if sleep apnea is obstructive and not central. What I mean by point number 3 is that the problem of sleep apnea has to do with the airway collapsing at some location. The machine does not fix the structural collapse but creates an artificial breathing environment; acting like a stent for your airway. Stents open up the pipe, but don't fix the underlying issue. This could be why CPAPs do NOT have cardioprotective effects. You could still have many of the following issues: Restricted nasal airway Low resting tongue posture, whcih collapses the pharyngeal wall during sleep Low soft palate posture restricted airway size Limited cervical dynamics Limited thorax dynamics All of these factors could limit your ability to breathe effectively during sleep and life. I think they need to be addressed to really "fix" the problem. [caption id="attachment_13405" align="aligncenter" width="386"] Make that airway dynamic AF, fam![/caption] Consider if you cannot adequately breathe through your nose for whatever reason. You will not get nitric oxide production needed to dilate blood vessels, which has several cardioprotective effects by reducing blood pressure and such. The key is to restore this mechanism. How would you do that? That I cannot answer, as each individual's needs will be unique. You need data, imaging, and a physical examination to make decisions. Pursuing upper airway restoration involves working under a skilled physician (Dentist, sleep doctor, ENT). Treatments could include the following: Surgeries to impact airway at any level (maxillomandibular advancement, septoplasty or other nasal surgeries, surgical palate expansion, tongue-tie release, etc) Oral appliance and airway orthodontics Myofunctional therapy and physical therapy Maximizing sleep environment Eating foods that support a healthy sleep environment Whatever you need, please consult a physician skilled in this domain, but I do think going this route is essential for improving upper airway dynamics, and subsequently sleep. If you want to check out some of the stuff I've tried, you can see them below: Maxillary expansion Tongue-tie release and septoplasty Wisdom teeth extraction Oral appliance Deviated septum Question: When dealing with a client with a deviated septum, that is a constant mouth breather. What is the best route to take with them in order for them to improve their breathing during training? Would the tongue drill help? Are there other drills? Watch the debrief here. Answer: The best route to "fix" a deviated septum would be consulting a practitioner who specializes in the upper airway. What will likely need to happen is some changes in mouth structure and position to improve the floor of the nose (aka roof of the mouth) and potentially a surgical procedure to correct the deviation pending the degree. There are likely no conservative measures that can alter a septal deviation, this is a structural issue. That said, many folks can still nasal breathe well despite this structural issue. In fact, I know someone right now who has an 80% blockage in one nostril who nasal breathes like a boss! Just like you can have osteoarthritis without pain and a high level of function, so too can you have a structural problem in your nose but still breathe well. The key is to have all the pieces in places needed to ensure a nasal breathing environment: Palatal tongue posture Ability to breathe through your nose Carbon dioxide tolerance Let's dive into each! Palatal tongue posture A palatal tongue posture is the ability to place your entire tongue on the roof of your mouth and keep it there. Notice how the tongue is right up against the roof of the mouth (photo credit: Sémhur)The ability to get into this position requires adequate mobility and knowing how to get into position. If you want some good exercises to enhance tongue mobility, check out this post and my Youtube playlist here. If you want to better improve tongue placement, utilizing orthodontic elastics on your mouth can be a big help. Basically, you can put the elastics where you can't get your tongue up to as an external cue. Focus on pressing the elastic into the roof of the mouth. [caption id="attachment_13409" align="aligncenter" width="376"] Elastic on the tongue tip. A good starting point[/caption] Ability to breathe through your nose This is as it sounds. Can you breathe through your nose while keeping a palatal tongue posture? Think breathe quietly and slowly through your nose in this position. You can also use a saline rinse through your nose to keep it open and clean. [caption id="attachment_13411" align="aligncenter" width="376"] Keep ya nose clean, fam![/caption] Carbon dioxide tolerance Mouth breathing is useful for keeping blood pH in a tight window during exercise. pH is governed by carbon dioxide, so the better you can tolerate carbon dioxide, the longer you can nasal breathe. This quality can be improved by working on a controlled pause. Here are the steps to this action: Attain palatal tongue posture Exhale a normal amount through your nose Pause and do not breathe. Hold to the point of first experiencing air hunger (where you feel the need to breathe in) Breathe in lightly through your nose, and exhale again; repeating step 3. Over time, your ability to tolerate air hunger should improve, and NO ONE will mess with you. Sum up CPAPs help keep the airway open and oxygen in your body, but improving airway dynamics and structure are key to "fixing" sleep apnea Nasal breathing requires a palatal tongue posture, regular nasal breathing, and carbon dioxide tolerance Image by https://www.myupchar.com/en

Is There a Connections Between Sinusitis and Sleep Apnea? We've all experienced a poor night's sleep due to a stuffy nose. It's hard to sleep when it's hard to breathe as we become uncomfortable and possibly start to snore. The result is an inability to get a good night's sleep that leaves you feeling tired in the morning. What is Sinusitis?Sinusitis or sinus infection is the swelling and inflammation in the sinuses. The sinuses are small air spaces located behind your forehead, nose, cheekbones, and in between the eyes. These produce mucus that keeps nasal passages moist and traps dirt particles and germs. The congestion and swelling in the sinuses make it difficult for air to pass through, which can be uncomfortable (2). According to the American Rhinologic Society, your reflex is to breathe through your nose while you're asleep. But the sinus inflammation and swelling caused by sinusitis can force you to breathe through your mouth instead. There are different types of sinusitis that can last for different lengths of time;Acute sinusitis: It has the shortest duration and may last for up to 4 weeks (3). Sub-acute sinusitis: Symptoms last longer than the standard acute period, for up to 3 months. It commonly occurs with bacterial infections or seasonal allergies.Chronic sinusitis: Symptoms persist, or frequently return, after 12 weeks. It may need more invasive treatment.Usually, your sinuses drain every 10 minutes to maintain a clear passage. When you get a cold or suffer from allergies, the nasal passages typically swell up. It blocks the flow of the sinuses. However, when you are sick, the nasal passages are unable to clean themselves naturally. It leads to a build-up of mucus that contains bacteria. If bacteria continue to build up in the nasal passages, it leads to inflammation. Subsequent nasal congestion will most likely prevent you from getting a good night's sleep. The symptoms vary depending on the type and severity of the infection. They are similar to those of a common cold that may include:Reduced sense of smellFeverStuffy or runny noseHeadache from sinus pressureFatigueCoughFast Facts On SinusitisIt affects 31 million people in the United States each year (4).Allergies, bacteria, or a virus can cause sinus infection.Swimmers, smokers, second-hand smokers are more likely to contract sinusitis. This condition usually goes away without treatment, but sometimes medical attention is needed.Doctors often refer to sinusitis as rhinosinusitis (inflammation of the nose known as rhinitis).Final words from Well-Aware-System ExpertsObstructive sleep apnea is a sleep disorder, while sinusitis is a temporary infection. The definite connection between sinusitis and sleep apnea is still not clear. But sinusitis can worse your OSA symptoms.Deviated septum of your nose cannot cause sleep apnea. But if you already have an airway obstruction, it can worse your sleep apnea. Sleep Apnea associated with chronic sinusitis can be treated effectively if you treat your sinusitis.Support the show (https://wellawaresystems.com/)

Talkin about my upcoming surgery. Deviated septum is why I cant breath and now I am going to have surgery to fix it. My wife and her friend sometimes enjoy Ice Cream before dinner. Making any decision in life no matter whether it is good or bad always effects other people. Admitting fault is hard but manageable. In these tough times we have to remember the people we are closest to and give them a call. Now that we cant get together and hang out. I find this to be important and a personal struggle of mine. I am going to try and change this in my life.

Is turbinate reduction or deviated septum surgery for mewing effective? In a previous discussion we have talked about whether or not my deviated septum or inflamed turbinates is the cause of my mouth breathing. My ear nose and throat (ENT) doctor outlined how septal deviation and inflammation of turbinates compounds inhibition of nasal circulation.…
Following up on my previous post where I talked about my deviated septum, this topic extends by finding an answer to the cause of my mouth breathing. During my last meeting with my ear nose and throat doctor I asked if the main cause of my mouth breathing was my deviated septum, or the inflammation of my turbinates.…
Can a Chiropractor fix a deviated septum? Some of my followers told me not to get deviated septum surgery and to seek out a Chiropractor instead. Supposedly, they can just snap your nose back into place, and you can avert having to go through surgery entirely.…

In this episode, we finally close out The Fragile era with a discussion on Things Falling Apart, And All That Could Have Been, Still, and The Fragile: Deviations 1. We even have time to talk about the song "Deep," from the Tomb Raider soundtrack as well. The temptation to go track by track through the Tomb Raider soundtrack is compelling, but no one wants to hear Marc talk about U2. Eric, as always, has a lot to say about a remix album. Steve argues true fans of music prefer live albums because who doesn't enjoy bad acoustics and crowd noise, amirite? We did not see Kyrie Irving at Game 7 with his teammates because he was not yet cleared to fly. Irving had a clean up surgery from his facial fracture earlier in the season that required him to wear a mask. Gordon Hayward is back on the court doing one on one stuff as Danny Ainge says. Tracy McGrady of the Jump had some great things to say about the Celtics and what next year looks like for them.

Nose issues that cause your breathing to fail Congestion from allergies, viruses, or infections. Deviated septum - the septum (the bone that separates the nasal cavity and divides your nostrils) can get crooked and change the size and access of the nostrils or nasal cavity. Can be from trauma, or may gradually get crooked from chronic pressure. Turbinate Hypertrophy - over-growth of tissue covering the turbinates (tissue-covered bones that add warmth and moisture to the air you breathe). This can lead to snoring. May be treated by steroid nasal sprays or surgery to remove extra tissue. Nasal Polyps - uneven overgrowth of mucus membranes (symptoms may be runny nose, post-nasal drip, stuffiness). They are not cancerous. Treated by snipping them out. Sinus cancer - a single growing tumor that causes bulging, either around the eye, face, or mouth. Nose issues that cause your smelling to fail Age Deviated septum (see above) Polyps (see above) Chronic sinus infections - the smelling sensors are inflamed or covered with mucus so much that they become damaged or less sensitive. Smoking - smoke and toxins can damage smelling receptors in your nose. Also, the receptors become so clogged up with smoke and tobacco molecules that there's no room for other molecules to be detected. This can be temporary or permanent. Nosebleeds In kids, this is usually from trauma (either bumps and bonks or picking). Can also be caused by dry air in the wintertime (use vaseline in the nostrils). In adults, can be from hypertension (high blood pressure) or chronic use of blood thinners. PSA: Treatment for a nosebleed: DO NOT tip your head backwards!!!!! It makes you swallow that blood! THAT'S GROSS!! Proper treatment: pinch the nose and tip the head forward. This allows a clot to form and clots stop the bleeding. The central compensation of vestibular tonus imbalance due to unilateral peripheral vestibular lesions has been repeatedly documented. Little is known, however, about the central compensation of vestibular tonus imbalance due to central lesions. Dorsolateral medullary infarctions (Wallenberg’s syndrome) typically cause a central vestibular tonus imbalance in the roll plane with deviations of perceived verticality and ipsiversive body lateropulsion. The course of normalisation of the tilts of subjective visual vertical (SVV) in 50 patients who had acute Wallenberg’s syndrome were retrospectively compared with that in 50 patients with acute vestibular neuritis. The initial displacement of SVV was 9.8° in Wallenberg’s syndrome and 7° in vestibular neuritis. The deviation of SVV significantly decreased over time within days to weeks in both groups. This finding shows that the time courses of the central compensation for dorsolateral medullary infarctions and peripheral vestibular lesions are similar.
