I can feel the emotion. I can drop into the moment. And then what I do is do something called transforming negative emotions. Neutralizing them into being centered in the moment Thoughts On Breathing Breath is life. I mean, breath is chi. When you take a deep breath. You are bringing energy into your body and that was what sustains and keeps you alive. You breathe about 20, 000 times a day, but not all of those breaths are equal. So if you're breathing shallow, you're sending a message to your nervous system; I'm stressed out. If you breathe deep and full, you're sending a message to your nervous system; I'm relaxed. So slow, deep breathing and being attentive to your breath is going to bring you into the moment. It's going to clear stress out of your nervous system and you're going to be more grounded and balanced. Bullying Story Raising four daughters, aged 3 to 15, exposes me to diverse forms of bullying. It goes beyond mere exclusion or name-calling; it involves clashes of opinions. When one of my older girls faced criticism over her political stance, I emphasized empathy and a broader outlook. We actively stepped into each other's perspectives, cultivating empathy and understanding. The result? They mediated between friends with differing views, diffusing tensions within days. Bullying's complexity led me to advocate mindful practices like Qigong, clarifying the line between genuine threats and hurtful situations. These practices empower us to seek support confidently. Strengthened internally, asking for help becomes more accessible, enabling us to choose healthier social circles. Grounded in ourselves, solutions emerge, countering the usual sense of powerlessness in such situations. Part of my mission in starting Third Opinion MD is to offer you a blended perspective about healthcare, and to provide you with simple tools to restore and maintain your health. In this short guided meditation, I'm introducing you to something that I learned from my studies with qigong: the Inner Smile Meditation. I first learned this from qigong master, Lee Holden, who had learned it from his mentor, Mantak Chia. In this bonus episode of my podcast, I'm sharing my version of this meditation with you. The Inner Smile Meditation As part of the introduction to this meditation, it's important to keep your mind focused and listen to my voice as I guide you through it. You will be smiling just slightly on the outside, and you will be sending your smile to five important organs in your body. I think this meditation is one of the most loving and adorable meditations. Why? Once you've smiled at your organs, your organs will start to smile back at you. Each of them has a life of their own, they're a part of you, and you will get to visualize them in a new way as you smile at each other. There's research that shows that doing this type of visualization work helps with mind-body work. It also helps quiet the “monkey mind,” which is what Qigong https://thirdopinionmd.org/introduction-to-qigong-master-liu-he/ (Master, Liu He), calls the racing thoughts that are often taking up space in our heads. I like the Inner Smile Meditation because it provides a single thing for your mind to focus on, while also setting the “Yi,” or intention, to guide your Qi (your life force energy) in a positive and healthy way through your body. "Qi Gong helps us get into that flow state where we feel our best selves and bring our best selves into all the activities of our lives."Lee Holden (8:56-9:08) Would you like to be able to release stress and gain energy in just a few minutes? By practicing a form of ancient Chinese medicine called Qi Gong, you can do just that. It's is an easy feel-good practice that can be done in just a short amount of time to access your internal energy and clear stress and tension out of your system. Qi Gong involves stretching and breathing exercises along with flowing movements and is easier than either Yoga or Tai Chi. It is actually the most widely practiced form of exercise in the world - even though it's not well-known in the western hemisphere. Lee Holden, a doctor of Chinese medicine and a world-renowned teacher of Qi Gong, is working to change that. By bringing it to public television and working with corporations like Weight Watchers, Lee has been able to make Qi Gong more mainstream and accessible to westerners. "What you've done is taken this ancient practice of Chinese medicine and translated into the modern western lifestyle." - Lori Taylor (4:47-5:03) The key to Qi Gong's overall effectiveness is doing it consistently and habitually. Just as brushing your teeth is meant to be done at least twice a day, doing Qi Gong twice a day will bring the results you desire. Doing Qi breaks of seven minutes or so throughout the day recharges your whole system and makes you more efficient. Lee often calls Qi Gong “mindfulness in motion.” By practicing Qi Gong, we can meet life's demands with relaxation and flow instead of stress and tension. Qi Gong is a means of gaining energy to flow with life's demands and not get stressed out, tense, and depleted. Fruits and vegetables are the ultimate Qi. In connecting Qi Gong to fresh produce and healthy eating, Lee emphasizes that eating is really about gaining energy (Qi) to give our bodies the sustenance it needs to perform. The Qi (energy) of food is important, which is why getting organic, locally produced, and good sources of fruits and veggies is so important. They give us that Qi that we need to get us through our days and keep us healthy. "Our bodies have tremendous healing power. And if we remove the blocks and charge up the system, our bodies heal themselves." - Lee Holden (23:41-23:50) In our western mindset, we often think that we need to take something to make ourselves feel better. However, in the long run, taking something can create other problems. Having tools and resources to take charge of our own health and healing is tremendously empowering. "Qi Gong helps us get into that flow state where we feel our best selves and bring our best selves into all the activities of our lives."Lee Holden (8:56-9:08) Would you like to be able to release stress and gain energy in just a few minutes? By practicing a form of ancient Chinese medicine called Qi Gong, you can do just that. It's is an easy feel-good practice that can be done in just a short amount of time to access your internal energy and clear stress and tension out of your system. Qi Gong involves stretching and breathing exercises along with flowing movements and is easier than either Yoga or Tai Chi. It is actually the most widely practiced form of exercise in the world - even though it's not well-known in the western hemisphere. Lee Holden, a doctor of Chinese medicine and a world-renowned teacher of Qi Gong, is working to change that. By bringing it to public television and working with corporations like Weight Watchers, Lee has been able to make Qi Gong more mainstream and accessible to westerners. "What you've done is taken this ancient practice of Chinese medicine and translated into the modern western lifestyle." - Lori Taylor (4:47-5:03) The key to Qi Gong's overall effectiveness is doing it consistently and habitually. Just as brushing your teeth is meant to be done at least twice a day, doing Qi Gong twice a day will bring the results you desire. Doing Qi breaks of seven minutes or so throughout the day recharges your whole system and makes you more efficient. Lee often calls Qi Gong “mindfulness in motion.” By practicing Qi Gong, we can meet life's demands with relaxation and flow instead of stress and tension. Qi Gong is a means of gaining energy to flow with life's demands and not get stressed out, tense, and depleted. Fruits and vegetables are the ultimate Qi. In connecting Qi Gong to fresh produce and healthy eating, Lee emphasizes that eating is really about gaining energy (Qi) to give our bodies the sustenance it needs to perform. The Qi (energy) of food is important, which is why getting organic, locally produced, and good sources of fruits and veggies is so important. They give us that Qi that we need to get us through our days and keep us healthy. "Our bodies have tremendous healing power. And if we remove the blocks and charge up the system, our bodies heal themselves." - Lee Holden (23:41-23:50) In our western mindset, we often think that we need to take something to make ourselves feel better. However, in the long run, taking something can create other problems. Having tools and resources to take charge of our own health and healing is tremendously empowering. Die meisten aber sind in beiden Bereichen tätig und verbinden in ihrer kulturellen Praxis Musik und Kunst auf unterschiedlichste Weise. Entsprechend abwechslungsreich erweisen sich die Tribute-Tracks. Einige setzen mehr auf das Wort, andere produzieren Soundcollagen ohne Text. Nicht wenige schufen Songs. Einige der Songtexte zitieren Metzger direkt, andere reflektieren über ihn. Die Mehrzahl der Tracks bezieht sich auf seine Idee der Autodestruktiven Kunst. Tami Simon speaks with Lee Holden, an internationally recognized qi gong master and Chinese medicine doctor. He is also the cofounder of the Santa Cruz Integrative Medicine and Chi Center. Lee has published dozens of books on topics ranging from t'ai chi to stress management. With Sounds True, Lee has created the audio learning series Taoist Sexual Secrets as well as a series on Your Body of Light, and a new home study course and online course Qi Gong for Health and Healing.
