His book "The Neuroscience of Tarot", is out Fall 2024 with Llewelyn Worldwide. https://www.brainmystic.com/ About The Neuroscience of Tarot: "What happens inside your brain when you look at a tarot card? How do you attribute significance to symbols? In this book, Siddharth Ramakrishnan, PhD, answers these questions and more as he explores the neuroscience behind intuition and proves that tarot readers aren't just making up their results. Siddharth unveils the fascinating dance between your body and brain that occurs while delivering or receiving a reading. Learn how this unconscious synergy allows you to process tarot imagery, attach personal meaning, and elicit emotional responses, laying the groundwork for prediction. Filled with dozens of journal exercises and full-color images, this book makes it easy to understand what intuition is scientifically and how to enhance it for more accurate readings from both sides of the table." About Missing WitchesAmy Torok and Risa Dickens produce the Missing Witches Podcast. We do every aspect from research to recording, it is a DIY labour of love and craft. Missing Witches is entirely member-supported, and getting to know the members of our Coven has been the most fun, electrifying, unexpectedly radical part of the project. These days the Missing Witches Coven gathers in our private, online coven circle to offer each other collaborative courses in ritual, weaving, divination, and more; we organize writing groups and witchy book clubs; and we gather on the Full and New Moon from all over the world. Our coven includes solitary practitioners, community leaders, techno pagans, crones, baby witches, neuroqueers, and folks who hug trees and have just been looking for their people. Our coven is trans-inclusive, anti-racist, feminist, pro-science, anti-ableist, and full of love. If that sounds like your people, come find out more. In this episode, my guest is the very wise and devoted tarot student and reader Cole of Rosie Cole Reads.   Cole and I explored the symbolism and significance of the Hermit card, exploring its connection to the upcoming year 2025 and The Magician's Table. We also touched on the evolution of tarot symbolism, the importance of trust in tarot readings, and the concept of reverence and devotion in the context of tarot. We discussed: the transformation of the Hermit's tool from an hourglass to a lantern, and its potential connection to the Visconti deck and the concept of time comparing and contrasting the Magician and Hermit cards  the Hermit's lantern as both a personal guide and a tool for sharing wisdom with others the idea of staying true to oneself while staying the course, and how this can be a form of stillness Cole shared her thoughts on the Round Table idea, comparing it to the Magician's Table and the Hermit's lantern, emphasizing the potential and possibility it represents the importance of trust in the process of tarot readings and the value of stepping away from the everyday to fully immerse oneself in the reading Cole's process for choosing a new deck a reading with Cole where I felt a lot of resistance but trusted Cole's trust in the cards, which led to a powerful and emotional experience +++ Decks mentioned: Mysteries of the Black Madonna Tarot, by Hettienne Grobler Website links: https://hergracesacredart.com and https://bookofmarysacredheart.blogspot.com IG: @mysterium_of_mary Lumina Tarot, by Inner Hue / Lauren Aletta (art by Tegan Swyny) Website: https://innerhue.com/ Deck is published mass market from Rockpool IG: @innerhue Tiger Tarot by Lori Field Artist Website: https://www.lori-field.com/about IG: @bunnyplanet1  Deck is currently out of print but the artist updates her IG often if extras become available. She attains her joy in constellating with her community, and aims to elevate and empower her tarot clients as a guide at their side, rather than to lead the way. Cole spent her 20s and early 30s pursuing a career in psychology as a family therapist specializing in adolescent counseling, and she rediscovered her love for tarot just before her first Saturn return. Over the last decade, she has embraced her role as a lifelong student and seeker, standing now at the crossroads of wisdom and mystery, knowing there are more trails to uncover. Pamela Coleman Smith, nicknamed “Pixie,” was a British artist responsible for every single illustration on all seventy-eight cards of the A.E. Waite and Rider Tarot Deck. She was involved heavily in the 1920s Suffragist movement in London. She created many of the posters that were hung throughout the city to let women know where they were gathering, to meet and discuss their rights, where they could get together to support each other, and the Suffragist movement, and to push the government in the direction that they wanted them to go.   Pamela was a very wild and super individualistic in a period in time where women didn't really have a lot of personality. She didn't care who looked at her, what they thought, how they interpreted her actions or her behaviors, because she was very eccentric, and she just wanted to define herself as the woman, the witch, the feminist, the suffragist, the lesbian, and the mixed race female that she was. Pamela illustrated over twenty books and she wrote and illustrated two books about Jamaican folklore as well as illustrated Bram Stroker's novel, The Lair of the White Worm.   Resources: Pamela Colman Smith: The Untold Story by Stuart R.   Nicholas de Phares is a tarot reader and actor living in New York City. Under the name “Tarot Vista” he has read for A-list celebrities, Fortune-500 company CEOs, and been the featured reader at major NYC tarot events. He grew up in the northernmost reaches of New York State in the small city of Watertown, in a region known as the “North Country.” His family were some of the original settlers of the North Country 200 years ago, and it is here, in this land of snow, ice, and forests that he first learned to read the cards. Nicholas's great-great-grandmother got her start reading tea leaves and fortunes early in the last century, and the women in Nicholas's family have passed down the art of divining the future for over a hundred years. His mother gave him his first deck of tarot cards in the Adirondack Mountains when he was 10, and it was from his grandmother, great-grandmother, and older cousins that he learned the arts of tea leaf reading, dream interpretation, and seeing spirits. However, it wasn't until Nicholas moved away from home that he even realized peering beyond the veil was something unusual. Studying directly under Rachel Pollack, author of 78 Degrees of Wisdom (1980) and Mary K. Greer, author of Tarot For Yourself (1984), Nicholas combined the raw, folk magic of his ancestors with the leading tarot practices of the age. Today, Nicholas has taught classes on palm reading, tea leaf reading, and divination, and offers tarot reading to believers and skeptics alike. With a Masters Degree in creative writing, Nicholas believes every reading is an opportunity to uncover where you are in your life's story, and decide how you want to next chapters to unfold. Deeply rooted in the ancestral memories of his tutors, Nicholas draws upon a love of the past, a touch of humor, and folksy know-how. Tarot Vista is a unique combination of timelessness, style, wit, and divine insight. Find Nicholas on Instagram: @tarotvista

ONLY SHORT SHOW-NOTES STILL FOR THIS EPISODE,NEXT WEEK FULL NOTES SHOULD BE BACK! This week I am happy and honoured to welcome once again one of those great "Tarot Ladies" on Thoth Hermes, Mary K. Greer. It is a pleasure to talk to her about her vast experience in the field, about how she got into all that, about different ways of using this Art, and many more details. The original idea to invite Mary came from another angle, though, and that gave also the title to this episode. Back in the 90's, she wrote that wonderful and thick book on the "Women of the Golden Dawn", which is still available and also seems to be the only one on the matter. And we speak about those four women whose path she describes in the book, her motivation to take up that subject, and also - very important - what it means today to be part of one of those occultist groups as a woman. Two of Mary's books she in particular talks about in the interview Mary K. Greer's website Her books on Amazon Music played in this episode This week, two of the three tracks are from Thoth Hermes listener Fabio Pedrotti. Fabio starts his own esoteric path at the age of 18, through his first initiation to Andean Shamanism, one of the few uninterrupted lineages in the world, of which he will gain the fullness of the three main initiations through a decade. He studies with Dr. Nader Butto and learns the Palestinian divination techniques, how to approach the equilibrium of the Chinese meridians, and bioenergetic treatments. In the following years, he continues his study through western modern astrology, classical 1800s authors such as Levi, Papus, Steiner, and Goethe, the Tarot system, the practice of Chaos and Ceremonial Magick, and the masonic tradition.Always fascinated by Egyptian esoteric knowledge he will enter western Orders: Misraim and Memphis tradition (Order and Rite of Venice) and SIRC (Societas Italica Rosae Crucis), which still maintains the original lineage of the Padri Serviti that transmitted an alchemical knowledge in Mount Senario, near Florence already in the XV century, long before the emergence of the Tubinga circle, that would become famous during the 1600 with the publication of the three renowned Manifestos. Graduated Naturopath since 2005, kinesiologist since 2012, he is also the creator of the Meridiantunes vibro-therapy system, a digital sonic application made to equilibrate the Chinese meridians through sound, today tested in several osteopathic and physiotherapic centers with great results. Today Fabio Pedrotti continues his study, gives lectures, and teaches courses on the western esoterical traditions, such as Alchemy, Rosy Cross, and Egyptian knowledge. The Book of Thoth, a musical duo with the electronic composer Filippo Corradin, was formed in 2021 and will launch 22 songs. Each one arises indeed from one of the 22 major Arcana, giving a glimpse of the realms living in each card. A journey through traditional magic, between jazz, pop, noise, and psychedelic soundscapes. 1) THE AEON (The Judgement) - Fabio Pedrotti Wake up wake upor anything will ever make sensebefore sunrise even stars awaitbut why, whyare you looking for ladders out there? You already know all the strenght it takesWake up Wake uphave you ever sensed the world for realwith eyes disclosedthrough a thinner ear? Why, whydo you stumble upon fears and talesyou could become everything you wishWhy become afraid of light to survive?

One of the most common questions for tarot readers is about how people can find ways to make a living doing what they love. In this episode, we talk about how the Knight of Pentacles attempts to answer that question, and get to some ecology and mythology along the way. We discuss the Bee Goddesses of ancient Crete, pollinators, the Great Plains buffalo, astrological correspondences, and where the bulls and the bees meet in the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. This episode is dedicated to Amanda's kitty familiar, Pagan, who passed from this world in the early hours of January 12th, and all the listeners who have recently lost their loved ones. This episode was recorded in December 2020 when Melissa had a birthday. Strap in everyone, we get nerdy this week. Listener Chuck K reminded us to talk about the birth card stuff that Hilary and Jaymi use in their readings. So, we did, and Melissa got to be the primary test case. She was kicking and huffing as we gladly analyzed her from this tarot by the numbers perspective.  How do you calculate birth cards? Well, it’s easier than you think. Add the numbers together. Keep adding until the number is between 1 and 22 (this is your Personality Number). You may then add the digits of that sum to find your Soul Number. [birth month, birth day, birth year] ____ + ____ + ____ + ____ = ____ [birth number] “Since we are looking for twenty-two possible results for a Personality Card, then a method of adding dates that maximizes these results will serve us best. That is why [Mary K. Greer] recommends[s] the addition method.” —Who Are You in the Tarot?, p. 36 If you get a single-digit or a sum greater than 22: Since there are only 22 cards in the Major Arcana, reduce the number to 22 or less (to result in a single-digit). In cases like these, it results in the same Personality and Soul Card (in Melissa’s case, she is a Single 9 Hermit; in Hilary’s case, she is a Single 4 Emperor; and Jaymi reduces her 21 World card to a 3 Empress). If you get 19, you have three cards: The Sun/The Magician/The Wheel of Fortune (MLK is a 19, for example) If you get 22, Emperor/Fool: combine great impulsiveness and mastery/22 is a master number in Numerology The constellations of the tarot run through the Magician to the Hermit card. For example, if you get a 16, you’re not the Tower alone! You’re in the constellation of the Chariot (Mastery through Change 16/7) because 16 reduces by addition to 7 (1+6=7).  Homework: Test out the Birth Card systems and see what they have to say for you. When the 10 of Swords appears, it's usually because you’re ready to call it. The battle is over. There’s no going back, and it’s time to MOVE ON.  The  10 cards are often about our collective experience. In this episode, we think about the social causes of defeat, or “ruin” as it’s called in the Thoth deck. Because we live in an individualist society we tend to think that when we experience ruin it’s our own fault, but often it’s a social set up. You’re asking for Hecate to guide you at this crossroads in your life, through this transition. Before you set out to the crossroads do a ceremonial clearing with fumigation herbs like mugwort or cedar or rosemary, have a ritual bath and anoint yourself with oil of cypress, or brush yourself down with a soft brush. Then go to a crossroads where three roads come together. You can leave coins for her, or pour a libation of water, milk (you can use any milk, oat milk, etc) - she is also the goddess of childbearing, wine or honey, snake skins for transformation, fish or eggs (for you non-vegan friends), or garlic also works, or onion, you can also leave cakes. Leaving offerings for Hecate on the dark moon (the night before the new moon), in ancient Greece the ritual to Hecate (involving a ceremonial dinner for her) was called a Deipnon. After the dinner your supposed to leave offerings for her at the crossroads where three roads come together, and say,“Torch bearing Hekate, powerful wanderer through realms of night, guide me through this crossroads of my life, lend your wisdom to mine and show me the way. Deliver me to the wisest course of action. Please accept these offerings as thanks for your wisdom and your guidance.”After leaving the offerings, walk away and don’t look back**********************************Get in touch with sponsorship inquiries for Between the Worlds at betweentheworldspodcast@gmail.com.Or, contact Amanda to book a session, or Carolyn just to find out more, below:*****Amanda Yates Garcia (art witch, healer, writer):www.oracleoflosangeles.comTo sign up for Amanda's newsletter, CLICK HERE.To order Amanda's book, "Initiated: Memoir of a Witch" CLICK HERE.Amanda's InstagramAmanda's Facebook**Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs (musician, artist, producer):www.carolynpennypackerriggs.comCarolyn's Instagram**CONTRIBUTORS:Amanda Yates Garcia (host) & Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs (producer) & Ann Friedman (special guest). The One with July's Ask Cardsy B July came in hard and fast like Miley on a Wrecking ball. If decisions are in your hands this month the Chariot reminds us to not proceed on emotions alone. But the Chariot is a victorious card that often brings in something we desire. Our other card of the month, 3 of Cups, indicates we will be celebrating a new source of abundance with our core peeps in July. And this week brings us 8 of cups- if there is something that you know is not aligned and is holding you back- have the strength to walk away from it. As Marie Kondo teaches with releasing physical clutter- its important to express gratitude for how it served you in the pass and release it with love.     Healers and Readers referenced in this episode:   Cara Kovacs: https://www.carakovacs.com/ Christopher Beaver: https://www.songlinesbyjewel.com/   Mary K. Greer https://marykgreer.com/   Angela Mary Magick https://angelamarymagick.com/   Phil Good: https://www.philgoodlife.com/   What Am I listening to? Host Cardsy B is a fashion industry survivor, tarot reader, and creator of the Badass Bitches Tarot by Cardsy B deck. Through intuitive readings served with a side of pop culture, Cardsy B offers an entertaining intro to the world of Tarot. Who the F is Cardsy B? Rebecca “Bex” Szymczak- aka Cardsy B- picked up her first deck of tarot cards at age eleven. After abandoning them to fit in with the cool kids in highschool she worked her way up the fashion industry by designing for DKNY, NIKE, and eventually serving as Creative Director/VP of Design for Playboy. After experiencing several traumatic losses in a period of five years, (Saturn return back to back with Saturn in her sun sign!) she pulled herself out of a pretty tragic Millennial meltdown using Tarot as healing tool. Tarot For Your Self 19 Tips for Reading Tarot with Mary K Greer - 012

Tarot For Your Self: 19 Tips for Reading Tarot PLUS The Life of Tarot Illustrator Pamela Coleman Smith with Mary K. Greer Tarot is 78 cards that were originally designed as a card game.  In the late 18th century the cards were used for fortune-telling.  56 playing cards plus a set of 21 trump cards (that in the card games could trump any other suit) plus the Fool Card for a total of 78 cards. By studying Tarot you can learn so much about psychology, history, science, mathematics, art, literature, symbolism.  It’s endless what you can learn through the Tarot. There are many myths or misconceptions about Tarot, including where the Tarot came from.  What can be proven is that the Major Arcana (trump cards) were added to a previous set of playing cards between 1420-1440 in northern Italy.  Mary is co-author of the book Pamela Coleman Smith: The Untold Story.  Pamela Coleman Smith was the illustrator for what is known today as the Rider-Waite Tarot deck.  The deck was completed in 1909 and a new edition came out in 1910.  This deck had scenic pictures on each of the minor arcana cards (rather than just symbols as in previous Tarot decks).  Rider was the publisher, Waite was the conceptualizer of the deck. Pamela Coleman Smith born in England (her parents were Americans).  She was a storyteller of Jamaican folktales because she lived several years on Jamaica.  She was also involved in literary theater of England in late 19th and early 20th century.  She lived in England in much of her adult life.  Her grave is unmarked. Mary’s inspiration for writing Tarot For Your Self was inspired by journal writing.  It is really a workbook that takes you through Tarot in a step-by-step manner that makes the cards come alive.  You actually create a relationship with each Tarot card.  It has remained popular for more than 30 years because it gives permission to explore Tarot in your own way and discover your own meanings for the cards.  It’s also a very fun way to explore the Tarot that creates mini-mystical experiences along the way! Description Technique for creating meaning from a Tarot card: Simply describe the card as literally and concretely as possible.  Describe the emotions, mood, and attitude you are experiencing or seeing in the card. Look at what you’ve stated in steps 1 and 2 as metaphors for what is happening in your life. Story Technique for creating meaning from a Tarot card:  Tell a made-up story of fairy tale (start with “Once upon a time . . .) and the card is the key illustration for the story.  Make the story wild and crazy and make it spontaneous.  If you are reading for your self, record yourself telling the story. Develop Three Core Keywords for each Tarot card. Work with the suit and number of the minor arcana:  Identify what all the ‘3’ cards have in common and how the meaning is influenced by the suit of the Tarot card. Compare and contrast between two cards.  Note the similarities and differences. Tips for reading reversed Tarot cards: If you have difficulty reading reversed  Tarot cards, remember you don’t have to read reversals!  Let yourself off the hook if reversals are difficult for you.  Set a clear intent for what the reversed card will mean – this will also work for you. Try looking at reversals as “inner” (unconscious) rather than “outer” (conscious) forces or dynamics. See reversals as the blocks or what the client may be resisting. See reversals as what is delayed or delaying something in the outer world. What is being overturned or what you are breaking through. What is on its way as potential. Tips for reading Court cards: People in your life A reflections or aspects of your own personality Knights can indicate simply going on a journey Aspects of yourself that you are projecting onto others You can also use astrological correspondences (for example, “Cup” court cards refer to water signs, “Sword” court cards refer to air signs, etc.) See the court card as having an opinion on the situation you are bringing to the reading.  What would this court card recommend you do in this situation?  You don’t have to follow these opinions, but they do inform you on what you choose to do. Reversed court cards are NOT bad or evil people. Mary is surprised that Tarot has been so central to her life for over 50 years!  There is infinite variation in its symbolism.  There’s always something new to explore. Mary teaches Tarot at the Omega Institute and has some recorded webinars at the Global Spiritual Studies.  She is also a frequent presenter at regional Tarot conferences throughout the world. Mary K. Before we begin, please note that this episode was recorded before the SCOTUS confirmation hearings. The card of this year is Justice (Major Arcana 11). Yeah. Topical, right? In any case, join us as we discuss how to calculate your Soul Card, your Year Card and THE Card of the Year - what "card of the year" means, controversies, karma, what justice is? Do we get justice through punishment and revenge, or through restoration of balance. We’d love to hear your thoughts via our Social Media pages. Technical Stuff: To calculate THE card of the year, add up the numbers of the year: 2 + 0 + 1 + 8 = 11 = Justice, and some people then reduce 11 down to 1 + 1 = 2 = the High Priestess. To calculate YOUR card of the year, one way of doing it is to add your birth month (for example, April = 4) plus your birth day (let’s say, April 11th = 11) and then add it to the number of THIS year. So: 4 + 11 + 2 + 0 + 1 + 8 = 26 . Then you reduce the number to correspond to the Major Arcana, so 2 + 6 = 8 A great resource to find out more about calculating the card of the year and tarot numerology is Mary K. Greer’s Tarot Constellations: Patterns of Personal Destiny published in 1987 by Newcastle Publishing Co. Vocab: Major Arcana - The 22 archetypal cards (numbers 0 through XXI) that make a tarot deck a tarot deck rather than just a deck of playing cards. Numerology - a system of divination where numbers correspond to mystical meanings. Archetypes - an overarching pattern of behavior or a “way things happen”, specifically refers to religion, mythology, symbols, literature and art. See also Carl Jung. Keys - the keys of the tarot are the tarot cards themselves but most often refer to the Major Arcana. They’re called keys because they open up portholes to new ways of thinking. Correspondences - within the occult, objects, symbols, astrological signs, elements, metals, crystals and many other objects and signs relate to each other through a system known as correspondences. For instance, Major Arcana 3, the Empress, corresponds to the planet Venus. BOGO - Buy One Get One. Get Involved If you’re interested in getting more involved politically, here are some ideas for places you can start. Remember, witches aren’t just about love, light and meditation; we get active in the world and work on behalf of justice for all beings. Last night, Kat and Ging had a very special Witchy Night. Witchy Nights usually involve one or two other people and it’s a mixture of asking questions and reading Tarot or working with other Oracle cards and sharing various interpretations and view points. Last night there were two usual suspects, although they’ve never attended together, Amalia (Mali) and Oscar, and the very special addition of Angela Economakis from Cyprus, who graced our evening with ceremonial cacao and witchy interpretations. After many rounds of tarot, out came bone throwing. Ginger, Kat and Mali love throwing bones and reading the symbols together. Their energies and magick combine for a potent experience with aspects of playfulness. The Geminis discuss trusting in that combination of energy rather than forcing it or trying to make something happen when the other magicks aren’t there. They share how having Mali, a woman in her 20s, in the mix of their lives adds a youthful exuberance and lightness. They also respect the volumes of sage wisdom she carries. Let’s bow down to the beauty of cross-generational relationships where we can all learn from each other. In true Gemini fashion, the conversation gets around to vaginas and how listening to the messages of our physical bodies can help us with emotional processing and release. The body can pave the way for us to dig below the physical experience and talk deeply about what challenges are arising. Sharing vulnerably opens pathways for others to do the same. The Gems wrap up by talking about the magick of setting clear intentions and advise people to let go of ideas about timing. Let magick do its work. Life goes at the speed we can handle it. It’s our fears that hold us back and slow things down. A lot of magick is recognizing it when it shows up — you have to have the eyes to see it because it never looks the way we imagined unless we look below the surface to the intention. Then we can see the gift….. sometimes being ready to receive is the biggest challenge. Special Announcement: 3 Fates Bone Throwing is happening at the Reno Spiritual Wellness Expo, March 18 & 19, 2017 and at the Nevada City Psychic Fair, April 8 & 9, 2017. In this episode, we are ecstatic to be joined by the one, the only Mary K Greer! We chat about a recent discussion Mary started on Facebook on the meaty topic of whether or not Tarot readers should study psychology in order to improve their readings for clients. Mary addresses the arguments that are often brought up about the potential dangers of readers dipping their toes into psychology (and refutes them quite handily we must say). Mary talks about aspects of psychology that will benefit readers, advice for dealing with challenging clients, and where to begin learning.
