Some said it couldn't be done. Some said it SHOULDN'T be done. But here we are - the podcast has reached 300 episodes! So the proud parents are taking out the photo album to show off some of their big strong pod-child's embarrassing snaps from its youth. In the time-honoured style of one of those TV retrospective shows, Barry and Ben each share 3 of their favourite facts from the show, 5 of their favourite moments and their favourite episode. Enjoy some classic Worst Foot Forward clips such as Lisztomania, Morrissey's appalling sex scenes, live audience sound FX, George Sitwell's wasp gun and the lifespan of astatine. The show features the following guests, in order of appearance: Bethany Black, Moxie Labouche, Georgie Morrell (now Georgie Wyatt), Joshua Tonks, Seb Falk, Helen Arnie, Professor Elemental, Tristan Bernays, Tulip Siddiq MP, Alexander Bennett, Paul Duncan McGarrity, Dr Kit Chapman, Robyn Perkins, Joel Morris, Bec Hill, Jay Foreman, Ria Lina, Johnny Chiodini, Ellie Gibson, Will Seaward and Dr Keir Shiels. Promote Celtic culture through music at http://celticmusicpodcast.com/. WELCOME TO IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC * Helping you celebrate Celtic culture through music. I am Marc Gunn. I'm a musician and podcaster. If you're new to the podcast, I share my love of Irish and Celtic music from around the globe with you. The artists in this show need your support which you can do by buying their music. You can find a link to all of the artists, along with show times and chapters for each song when you visit our website at celticmusicpodcast.com. You can also support this podcast on Patreon. SPEAKING OF PATREON… I don't know if you knew this. But I donate 10% of all of the money that is earned on Patreon to Celtic Non - Profits. I do the same with our Celtic compilation CDs. The money goes largely to Celtic festivals where we promote Celtic culture through music. I keep track of the donations to all the festivals and organizations on our website. Well, I say that, but I hadn't updated that list in about four years, even though I continued to make donations. We donated $4200 last year to different festivals. To date, we've donated over $45,000. You can find the complete list of Celtic Non - Profit donations on our website. PET PEEVE I have a pet peeve to share. I got a Facebook message from someone representing a Celtic artist. They said, “I see your preferred method of contact is Facebook”. Let me be clear. Facebook is my LAST method of contact. It is the #1 place I promote the podcast. But I do not like Facebook. It also shows a complete disinterest in finding out how to contact me. Don't get me wrong. You are welcome to message me there. I started looking at messages recently after 3 - 5 years of forgetting I could. But I still prefer a direct email. VOTE IN THE CELTIC TOP 20 FOR 2022 This is our way of finding the best songs and artists each year. You can vote for as many songs and tunes that inspire you in each episode. Your vote helps me create next year's Best Celtic music of 2022 episode. Vote Now! WHAT'S NEW IN IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC: BEST OF 2022 Two weeks after the episode is launched, I compile the latest Celtic Top 20 votes to update a playlist on Spotify and Amazon Music. These are the results of your voting. You can help these artists out by following the playlists and adding tracks you love to your playlists. The newest band added to the playlist: Poitin Band, Kilmaine Saints, The Rogues, The Carroll Sisters Listen on Spotify and Amazon Music. BUY SELCOUTH BY MARC GUNN My latest CD features Sci F'Irish music. That means it is original songs fusing pop culture themes with Irish drinking songs. There are some traditional music on the album. But mostly, it features songwriting by Marc Gunn with guests including: Screeched Inn, The Muckers, Jamie Haeuser, Sam Gillogly, Nathan Deese, and Mikey Mason. Selcouth means, “when everything is strange and different, yet you find it marvelous anyway.” The album is not completely Celtic and it's not just science fiction and fantasy. It's a fusion of the two. It's heartfelt and a lot of fun. It's now on sale in my Bandcamp store. Check out Selcouth now. TRAVEL WITH CELTIC INVASION VACATIONS Every year, I take a small group of Celtic music fans on the relaxing adventure of a lifetime. We don't see everything. Instead, we stay in one area. We get to know the region through its culture, history, and legends. You can join us with an auditory and visual adventure through podcasts and videos. Learn more about the invasion at http://celticinvasion.com/ WE HAVE A COMPANION PODCAST Pub Songs & Stories is a Virtual Public House for musicians to share the stories and inspiration behind their music. I ask musicians on this show to share a story about a song or tune, from a gig, or maybe even just a piece of Celtic history that they love. I share their story and the related song in the podcast. I also share songs from the Best of 2022 playlist. And of course, I talk about some of my songs and what's new with me. Just like this show, it is free to subscribe. THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST! Because of Your kind and generous support, this show comes out at least four times a month. Your generosity funds the creation, promotion and production of the show. It allows us to attract new listeners and to help our community grow. A super special thanks to our newest Patrons: Shelley W, Andrew P Now I mentioned the show comes out at least four times a month. Typically, I plan to take a week off every quarter. But the podcast lost a few patrons over the past month. Meanwhile, our expenses went up last year. I have an audio engineer, graphic artist, social media person, plus there's advertising expenses and I buy the music from all of the artists who complete the permission form. So I think it's time for a new patronage milestone. The next off week is June 2. I want to do a very special 2 - 3 hour episode. I'm not sure of the theme. I'll let you know in the coming weeks. But I set the goal at $850 per episode. That means we need to raise $70 per episode. That will cover the new expenses. That's about 15 new people subscribing on Patreon. I know that's a pretty tough goal to reach. But you have until May 1 to sign up. If we can do that, then you will get that incredible show on June 2. Oh! And every patron will get a bumper sticker as well as a small way of saying thanks. You also get to hear episodes before regular listeners. Any amount is great. You can pledge a dollar or more per episode and cap how much you want to spend each month over on Patreon. You can also get music - only episodes when you become a Song Henger. You can become a generous Patron of the Podcast on Patreon at SongHenge.com. #celticmusic #irishmusic #celticmusicpodcast I WANT YOUR FEEDBACK What are you doing today while listening to the podcast? You can send a written comment along with a picture of what you're doing while listening. Email a voicemail message to celticpodcast@gmail.com Bonnie Menard replied on a Facebook post: "Marc, I just have to tell you. I was listening to another Irish & Celtic Music Podcast at work and then I found yours. This week I switched to Pub Songs and Stories and I am loving it. On both your podcasts all the music and artists are great, but my favorite is you. By Amazing Grace and the Mingulay Boat song are amazing. Such a powerful voice. Food inherently is meant to sustain life, but this has not always been the case, in fact, for as far back as history goes food has also been used as a vehicle, not for invigorating life, but for delivering death. In this episode, we're looking at some of the most bizarre moments in which food was involved in assassination plots throughout history. .In an extra special segment in today's episode, my friend Moxie LaBouche from the podcast Your Brain On Facts takes us through some of the more creative assassination attempts on the late Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro.-------------------Please support me on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/foodhistorypod and get early access to episodes, bonus content and even free merch!Find transcripts and references on the website: www.foodhistorypodcast.com-------------------Huge thanks also go to Kind Bar for sponsoring this episode.KIND is working hard to shift the food industry and empower their community and our listeners to make better, informed choices about their health.Kindness can be a transformative force for good and that is why we are teaming up with KIND and PODGO to bring our listeners between 10% and 15% off for military, teachers, students, first responders, doctors and nurses in a time where they have given so much to all of us.Go to www.podgo.co/kindKind Bar, creating a kinder and healthier world - one act, one snack at a time-------------------

If there's one person in movies that makes Bob feel so happy and then so mad it's George Lucas. Good news is that Bob totally loves Willow! Like unironically loves. He is joined by Moxie LaBouche and Tim Holly on the podcast and they discuss how to correctly pronounce Warwick Davis' name, uncooperative pigs, 1988 tv shows, Wilhelm screams, and whether Madmartigan was the greatest movie name of all time. Remember the good old days when hacking didn't mean election tampering? It just meant pirating a broadcast signal or putting a less than appropriate picture on the front page of someone's website. Well, we long for those simpler times and on this week's episode we're covering one of the most famous in history (hijacking broadcast signals…not naughty pictures). The Max Headroom Signal Hijacking took place here in the lower 4th (Chicago) on two separate stations (WGN / WTTW) on the same November night in 1987. And while the content wasn't sinister - it certainly did cause an uproar. The strange broadcast interruption was a weird blend of anti-establishment rant and absurdist comedy (with some spanking thrown in for good measure). The strangest thing? The case has never been solved. So grab you New Coke, pop in a blank VHS and hit record as we cover the The Max Headroom Signal Hijacking this week. Plus Conspiracy Bot goes all Outer Limits on us, then C-Bot decides to go hack someone else's podcast with Kyle's help, and Moxie LaBouche of the Your Brain on Facts podcast goes slummin' and joins this dumpster fire to help sort out the insanity. All of that and more on the podcast that's never been hacked (unless you count the robot co-host) - Hysteria 51.Special thanks to this week’s research sources:Research Assistant - Raymond Walden IVBooksYour Brain on Facts: Things You Didn't Know, Things You Thought You Knew, and Things You Never Knew You Never Knew (Trivia, Quizzes, Fun Facts) | Moxie LaBoucheVideosHijacking Video - https://youtu.be/oqgeM6rWSkwWho Was Behind the Max Headroom Incident? - https://youtu.be/8rRo5CHFxAI}Max Headroom WTTW Pirating Incident - 11/22/87 - https://youtu.be/tWdgAMYjYSsThe Original Max Talking Headroom Show - https://imdb.to/2NTEyg2The Story of Max Headroom: Live on Network 23 - https://youtu.be/UzFWQIIe8U4WebsitesMax Headroom Signal Hijacking - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Headroom_signal_hijackingThe Max Headroom Show - https://bit.ly/2tw3F1vMax Headroom - https://bit.ly/37iLdrRVICE - https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/pgay3n/headroom-hackerCaptain Midnight broadcast signal intrusion - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Midnight_broadcast_signal_intrusionCheck out This Week’s Guest: Moxie LaBoucheWebsite - http://yourbrainonfacts.com/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/yourbrainonfacts/Twitter - https://twitter.com/BrainOnFactspodInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/YourBrainOnFacts/Find More Great PodcastsForthHand Media - http://forthhand.com/shows/
This week, Jeremy talks to Moxie LaBouche from Your Brain On Facts! If you love history and trivia then you will absolutely adore Your Brain On Facts!
KFC This episode is not explicit. Your Brain on Facts is a half-hour podcast of things you didn’t know, things you thought you knew, and things you never knew you never knew, covering topics as diverse as science-fiction, funerals, food origins, heroic animals, and the strategic butter reserve. Before she started the Your Brain On Facts podcast to safely vent the copious bonus facts in her brain, Moxie LaBouche performed and produced burlesque, specifically "nerd-lesque." It was her privilege to produce the only George R. R. Martin-approved burlesque tribute to Game of Thrones and even to play for the man himself. Moxie has presented a local TED talk, is the prolific author of unfinished fiction, knows seven words of Latin, and previously earned her living as a goat farmer and soap maker. She is also the creator and co-host of the Science With Savannah, Age 7 podcast and YouTube channel. Moxie lives in Virginia with her husband and a dozen or so pets. http://yourbrainonfacts.com/ TRANSCRIPT This episode of Listen Rinse Repeat is brought to you by Moxie LaBouche of Your Brain On Facts. Ready steady wash. The official KFC Twitter account only follows six men named Herb and the five Spice Girls. The person who noticed it, or at least broadcast their discovery, was awarded a portrait of himself getting a piggy-back ride from Colonel Sanders. You may now rinse your hands.
BURLESQUE Moxie LaBouche knows facts that are about as random as her career trajectory. She's going to tell you all about those things. She can't stop. Among other roles, she's a podcast host and author (yourbrainonfacts.com), voice-over artist, former goat farmer, TED talk speaker, and with a name like that, wouldn't you guess? A burlesque performer. She puts Greg in trance with her flow of information in the same way her husband put George R.R. Martin in a trance when he removed his boxer briefs. Yup. It's in this episode. Moxie and Greg delve into sideshow entertainment, hating Scottish surnames for little girls, and groundhog blood on your nephew. And weirdly enough, that's less than a 1/10th of what's covered. We have the unstoppable force of factual factoids, Moxie from Your Brain on Facts, our newest instant recurring guest! We kick things off by talking about her random ass podcast and why she started it before delving into some meta podcasting chatting. (15:02) We get into the Lightning Strike and her ensuing neuro-cognitive struggles of which Capt. Concussion over here can totally relate to, so I put my stanky Medical Anth Blue Jay’s hat on and ask her some inappropriately personal questions! Fun!! (22:30) Matty throws a sudden and unexpected left-hand turn down and we start talking burlesque, how Moxie got into this fantastic art form, what Nerdy stuff she incorporated, how her hubby donned a “fat-suit” and trampolined into the heart of the one and only George R.R. Martin! Matty gets to do his own nerding out here, big fan of fashion even through Evan has described my look as “like a ramshackle restaurant with surprisingly good food but you don’t want to see the kitchen..” I love drag and burlesque, love RuRu and Tim Gunn, so I extended this convo into the gendered dynamics of the forms including Male-ID’ing burlesque performers and drag-kings. What makes a screwball comedy? Well, to get technical, screwball comedies began as a sub-genre of romantic comedy in the 1930's. The term has become a little more broad over time, and movies that we consider to be screwball comedies today might not focus specifically on a love story, but have elements that still turn the classic romance on its head. Come join us as we discuss some famous comedy parodies (specifically of the Zucker, Abrahams, and Zucker variety.) This episode we have a special guest! She hosts the awesome podcast, Your Brain on Facts. Please welcome Moxie LaBouche! We want to thank her for coming up with the topic for the week which is Screwball Comedy Parodies! He actually would have lived slightly longer if he’d stayed in jail.

About a dozen times. The fire suppression system was a hazard in and of itself, 4,000 doors were mislabeled, and there was fear the roof would collapse. It’s still not open and now it needs more money for things like burned-out arrival/departure screens.

He was cast to play Native American characters over 100 times and stuck to the fake story of his life even after a reporter talked to his family. In his defense, he did push directors to portray Native characters in a better light.

In the 1870s, new farmsteads on the American plains were beset by enormous swarms of grasshoppers sweeping eastward from the Rocky Mountains. The insects were a disaster for vulnerable farmers, attacking in enormous numbers and devouring everything before them. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll describe the grasshopper plagues and the settlers' struggles against them. We'll also delve into urban legends and puzzle over some vanishing children. Intro: In 2001, a Washington earthquake drew a rose with a pendulum. In 2003, Japanese web designer Nobuyuki Kayahara created a curiously ambiguous animation. Sources for our feature on the grasshopper plagues: Jeffrey A. Hey! Happy April Fool's day! Amid the fake pregnancies, proposals, and deaths, I'm thrilled to bring you a real awesome podcast. The lovely Moxie LaBouche from Your Brain on Facts Podcast put together a super secret group of podcasters to switch up our episodes on April 1st and I was paired up with pulp fiction novel review podcast Terrible Book Club. Before she started the Your Brain On Facts podcast as a way to vent the copious factoids from her brain, Moxie LaBouche performed and produced burlesque, specializing in “nerd-lesque,” ie dressing up (then undressing as) beloved fictional characters, everything from Cheetarah to Dracula's assistant Renfield. It was also her privilege to produce the only George R. R. Martin-approved burlesque tribute tour and even to play for him. She was a presenter in a local TED talk, talking unsurprisingly about burlesque, and previously earned her living as a goat farmer. 600 Second Saga Music is provided by MADS.
