Nova Scotia based group Nap Eyes are a truly unique band in many ways. From the emotional elements of Chapman's poetry, the overall sonic tones unforcingly expressed from the band and most importantly the delivery of their boundless energy. I first heard and saw Nap Eyes during a very formative summer in 2018 and it was totally magical! The guys talked to us and made us feel like we were friends right off the bat that night. It doesn't always work that way, but these guys are the real deal! On this episode of the Primitive Man Soundz Podcast we explore Chapman's youth growing up listeing to Green Day's "Dookie", picking up the guitar for the first time, meeting his future bandmates, forming Nap Eyes, science and chemistry, signing to Paradise Of Bachelors/Jagjaguwar, the pandemic, the emotional states of being a person and artist during these times, their most recent record "Snapshot Of A Beginner" and much more!
Hola everyone in and from the Real Human Bings zone! We love that you are still zoning with us. Here's another Frankensteined episode with some random bits we talked about. Specifically, how we'd fix playoff sports and a rant about rich people and corpos hating on the workers of the world. Yeah, that's right, we're true Marxists now guys. (And don't worry, we go down the same conversation rabbit holes we always do about D&D, Star Wars, and our own egos.) Lastly, Picks of the Week. That is all. While the daily lives of most of us have been reduced to lying on our couches in sweatpants, musicians have attempted to carry on their somewhat normal lives. Sure, the gigs have been cancelled but they’re still out there creating. And while everything on tonight’s show was obviously recorded long before the current epidemic, the fact that this past month has seen so much great new music released gives those of us sitting at home something to get us through the day. In fact, there was so much great music unleashed these last few weeks that this month’s “new release” episode is a two part extravaganza. Not only that, but both this week’s and next week’s shows go well past the two hour mark. (Well, that’s the plan for next week’s part two. That may change due to unseen circumstances.) So what’s in store in part one? There’s a trio of new Replacements covers, new tunes by Ledge favorites such as Nap Eyes and The Buttertones, entire sets devoted to Big Stir Records and Rum Bar Records, plenty of brand new bands, and cover set that includes tracks from Ty Segall’s surprise release of a Harry Nillson covers EP. There’s also the reunions […]

Shelby and Aesop sit down with accomplished author (Swedish Death Metal, Violent Italy, Swedish Sensationsfilms) and musician (Insision, Iron Lamb, Diskonto, Third Storm, Tyrant, Usurpress, Dellamorte, etc) Daniel Ekeroth to discuss his career in extreme media, from the punk and hardcore roots of metal to the European influx of B-movie slasher and horror films to the undeniable fact that Finland doesn't actually exist. It's a surreal, over-saturated giallo of discourse, culminating in a tense, horrifying shocker of a finale--leaving all participants confused, blood-covered, and wielding large kitchen knives. What else? Well: Band Economics 101, People Are Allowed To Have Opinions, Dario Argento's Comic Book Store, Born-Again Christian Harry Reems, Drunk At The Gym, A Miserable Small Town In Northern Sweden Ripped Wide Open By Napalm Death, Yngwie J. Malmsteen Smoking Crack Inside of A Hollowed-Out Marshall Cabinet, Japanese Hardcore And You And Me, Aesop's Cool Story About The Nocturnus Book He Didn't Write (Extended, Remixed Version), Exactly One Hundred Years of Censorship, Let The Write One In, The Day Burzum Ruined Everything, Where The Fish Are Made of Candy, Remembering The Alamo (Drafthouse), Dismember-ing The Malmö (Sweden), Drinking Vodka Whilst Driving And Also Yelling At Pedestrians, Sacramento: California's Finland, Wishing A Speedy Recovery To Lemmy Kilmeister, Daniel Tells That Same Story Everyone Has About Their Mom Throwing Out All Their Old Star Wars And Ninja Turtles Action Figures Except It's About Obscure Death Metal Demos This Time, Floridian Methamphetamines And The Bentonomicon, Krug Life, Talkin' Vomitory, The Shape of Cum To Punk, The Malort Connection, Enamel Pin Chat, Last Houses: On The Lefts vs On Dead End Streets, Cult Movie Convention Etiquette, Remember When Voivod Covered The Batman Theme Song?, That Tacqueria In Oslo, Norway That The Guy From Wall of Voodoo Owns, Death Lays An Egg, An Amuse Bouche of Riffs, 100 Beers A Day From 1985 To 1995, "Rashomon" Except It's A Sex Comedy, A Sandwich (The Wegetarian Wersion), No Klingon Dick, The Time Aesop Punched Shelby At The Ruby Room, Beach Friend, Hat Talk, Nap Eyes, Overwhelming Colorfast (Again), Jackin' It To Swedish Aviation Magazines, Les Schwab: Pride And Performance, "The Chicago Handshake", Cutlering Books, Porn And Toilets, Un-Nice Scene Beef, 3 People In A Shitty Hotel Wayyy Outside Baltimore, Kind Of Goblinlike, Rancid Shit, Soft Puke, Torsos, The DMD Bump, and, as always, Fatherly Advice. Not gonna lie, this is a really good episode. Well... It's ok. It's... It's at least better than that last one with Tony Molina. Music: Insision, "World Impaled" Usurpress, "Interregnum" Slamahoochee, "Denny's Lumberjack Slam Breakfast (Come Undone)(feat. Tony Molina)" PS: That Korean horror movie from 2016 is "The Wailing", dammit.

I met up with the core of Monomyth, Josh Salter and Seamus Dalton right before the annual Mint Records Ridiculously Early Christmas Party in 2015. They wanted me to hold this interview until their new record was ready to come out. Finally the new record, Happy Pop Family, comes out November 4, 2016 on Mint Records. Why'd it take so long? Josh and Seamus moonlight in slacker-rock band, Nap Eyes--Josh is Nap Eyes' bassist and Seamus is the drummer. When I hung out with Josh and Seamus, they were staying at a secret band house in East Vancouver. I walked in the door and my jaw dropped: there were crushed PBR cans all over the living room, covering the table, floor and couches. So we each cracked open another beer and started to talk. Josh and Seamus were just the right kind of buzzed for a hilarious conversation. Tracks played on the show... 1) Monomyth, Saturnalia Regalia (2014) “Pac Ambition” 2) Monomyth, King, Does This Not Please You? (Behold the Power) (2013) “Cigarette” 3) Monomyth, Monomyth (2012) “Feeling” 4) Monomyth, Saturnalia Regalia (2014) “Theme From Monomyth” ALL songs CANCON
