We started podcasting exactly 12 months ago in the midst of the pandemic, but finally, FINALLY, we have, FOR THE FIRST TIME, a review of not a years-old classic but a BRAND NEW RELEASE, in theaters, RIGHT NOW, in July 2021. This week we review the 24th MCU film, "BLACK WIDOW." And... Eh, it's okay. We discuss the overall feel of the movie, its value & placement within the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the experience of being back in the theater for the first time in 1.5 years. Grab your tight-fitting leather uniform, guns, electroshock batons, Widow's Bite, and vest of many pockets, as we strike a showy fighting pose with...Black Widow. Note: Because we wanted to keep this review spoiler-free, and full disclosure, it was one of three episodes we recorded in one night, this review is brief and not our usual deep dive. *But*, if you'd like us to take a deeper dive and/or spoiler-filled approach on this movie, or have feedback about any other topics, you can contact us at... Andrew Forrest taught a live online Bible study instead.  This is a recording of that study. What if the pandemic is preparation? There is a ten year period in which the Apostle Paul drops out of history following his encounter with Jesus on the Road to Damascus and subsequent transformation.  He is sent home to Tarsus and we don’t hear from him again until Barnabas goes to fetch him and bring him to Antioch around AD 48. What happened in that 10 year period?  We don’t know, but we do know that God used Paul in a mighty way after that. What if God is using the pandemic as preparation for you? Far less than 1% die from the coronavirus. So why the paranoia? It is widely agreed that the covid-19 virus is extremely contagious and people can, and have, died from contracting it. It is also a fact that most people survive covid-19 and don't usually suffer any long-lasting effects. Now that we know more about this virus, who is most effected, and why, perhaps we can stop panicking and end the lockdowns. More and more doctors around the world are stating that they have seen huge success treating coronavirus patients with over the counter products combined with specific vitamins and minerals. They talk about meeting Bob Hope, and being on his show. Before they leave to meet Bob, they spend a few moments talking with the downtrodden maid. As they enter the studio, Jerry talks candidly with a couple old ladies. They go in to rehearse. While Jerry Aledgedly leads the band, Dean sings, Dreamland Is Not Very Far. Bob Hope appears with the guise of introducing them on his own show. Bob talks about his worries over his own show, and encourages Dean and Jerry. Jerry has his hair teased. Jerry also gets teased about how young he is. Bob plugs their new movie, and Jerry talks to Bob about his film. . If Dean's lucky, maybe Bob and Jerry will let him cut in. The guys flub some lines, but comeback with adlibs. Bob invites the guys to an informal party. By now, the script has been left far behind, and adlibs rule the day. Despite the adlibs, the script is almost returned to. With all the rflubbed lines in an adlib, it works. There are some hilarious moments. Obviously enough to get them their own series in the weeks to come. Note: Because this is an audition, and with the additional adlibs, the show does run quite long. Well over 30 minutes. In fact, about the time that Bob makes a comment about being an hour show, it just went past the 30 minute mark.

This is the first of three episodes on Ray Bradbury's novel Something Wicked This Way Comes (1962). In this episode, we dive right into discussing all the elements we liked -- the characters, the feel, the prose, Charles Halloway, and the spooky thrill of hovering threat. Brick waxes eloquent about nostalgia, while Kathryn struggles to say anything beyond, "I love this book." We both love this book. Note: Because it is us, we also spent about fifty minutes arguing about the book's conception of the way in which evil functions ... Our editor declared, "Enough! This is already long enough!" and excised that section. The recording, however, does still exist and may make an appearance at some point if there is enough popular (or unpopular) demand.

Michael describes how his most positive songs have come from "his darkest places" and how he's learned to embrace livestreaming as a way to connect with his audience this year. As always, Franti is inspiring. This particular chat is just a little moreso. During times of crisis, restaurants are there for us. They're where we celebrate, gather, catch-up, connect, and nourish ourselves body, mind, and spirit. At this unprecedented and uncertain moment when people are told to socially isolate because of coronavirus, many of them are in danger of shutting down for good. Food & Wine senior editor Kat Kinsman spoke by phone from her home in Brooklyn with Houston chefs Chris Shepherd and Ryan Lachaine, NYC chef Amanda Cohen, and No Kid Hungry's National Director, Chef and Culinary Professional Relations Jenny Dirksen about how they're supporting their teams and communities during this time, and what the dining public can do to make sure the restaurants they love will still be around. “If we really care about the future of girls in sports, we need to invest in the girls that are actually playing these sports.”Lindsay CrouseA perfect companion piece to my recent conversation with Lauren Fleshman -- and in furtherance of better understanding the issues that swirl around gender, sport and fairness -- today I sit down with an investigative journalist breaking some of the biggest stories in women's sports.Meet Lindsay Crouse.A graduate of Harvard University, where she competed in both cross country and track and field, Lindsay is a senior staff editor and senior OpDocs producer at The New York Times. If you’ve been paying any attention to running news (or just big headlines in general) then you are already familiar with Lindsay’s work. At the epicenter of the conversation that surrounds sports and power, Lindsay is behind some of the biggest sports stories and opinion pieces in recent memory, with a particular focus on the role and state of women's distance running. Some of Lindsay's most popular pieces include How The 'Shalane Flanagan Effect' Works, which examined the former podcast guest and New York City Marathon victor's elevating impact on other women; she broke the story on Nike's refusal to guarantee female athletes' salaries during or immediately post-pregnancy; and she produced the piece in which Allyson Felix told her story around Nike and pregnancy.Lindsay also worked with last week’s guest Lauren Fleshman on her powerful November Op-Ed, I Changed My Body For My Sport. No Girl Should and is responsible for the bombshell opinion piece about the emotional abuse suffered by Mary Cain under her former coach, Alberto Salazar. I Was The Fastest Girl in America, Until I Joined Nike created such a stir, it went on to become the 42nd most read New York Times piece for all of 2019.In her role as a senior producer of OpDocs, Lindsay's many credits include the wonderful film about minimalist marathoner Memo and Walk, Run, Cha Cha, which was recently lauded with an Academy Awards nomination in the documentary short subject category. In addition, Lindsay is an accomplished athlete in her own right. With 12 marathons under her belt, she recently posted an impressive 2:53 26.2 PR -- a feat accomplished (subsequent to our conversation) while balancing the tremendous rigors of her demanding career.I first came across Lindsay by way of her recurring cameos in my friend (and RRP guest from episodes 73, 144, & 174) Casey Neistat's wildly popular vlog. So in 2015, I began following Lindsay's career. As I watched her work mature and profile grow, I eagerly awaited each new article -- and anticipated an opportunity to share her experience and insight on the podcast.Today is that day. And it's everything I hoped it would be. We begin with Lindsay's personal trajectory from Rhode Island roots and attending Harvard to landing a job at the most prestigious newspaper in the world. We discuss maternity rights and the gender wage gap by going behind the scenes on Nike' relationship with pregnant athletes. The controversies surrounding Alberto Salazar and the Nike Oregon Project. The personal stories shared by Mary Cain, Lara Goucher, Alysia Montaño and Allyson Felix. And gymnast Katelyn Ohashi's campaign to secure fair pay for NCAA athletes. We explore the ways in which the sports industry has failed to make way for women. Why almost all current sports science is based on men. And why conventional coaching has led to a sordid history of harming female athletes. In addition, Lindsay recounts what it's actually like to work at The New York Times in our post-truth, 'fake news' world. The unique pressures that accompany breaking big stories. And how she manages to balance everything -- and still kick serious ass in running. The ongoing impact of Lindsay's journalism is immeasurable. So it was an absolute honor and a delight to sit down with her.Note: Because this conversation transpired at the New York Times offices (as opposed to my studio), we did not film the conversation. In addition, it was recorded in mid-October and thus not current with the immediate news cycle.I can't say enough good things about Lindsay and the work she is doing to advance the role and voice of women in sports. I love this conversation. I sincerely hope you do as well.Peace + Plants,Listen, Watch & Subscribe Apple Podcasts | YouTube | Spotify | Stitcher | Google PodcastsThanks to this week’s sponsorsCalm: The #1 app for meditation and sleep with 100+ guided meditations covering anxiety, focus, stress, sleep, relationships and more. Cocoa Powder, unsweetened1 tsp Vanilla Extract1/8 tsp Kosher SaltPreparation:1.Gather all ingredients and equipment.2.Preheat oven to 350 Fahrenheit (180 Celsius).3.In a small blender, blend oats on high speed to create a fine powder. Move the oats to a medium size bowl.4.In a microwave safe bowl, add chocolate chips and microwave for 30 seconds. Remove and stir. Microwave for another 30 seconds or until thoroughly melted.5.Drain black beans in a colander and thoroughly rinse them off.6.In a pitcher blender, combine chocolate, black beans, oil, syrup, baking powder, cocoa powder, vanilla, and salt. Welcome back! We are so lucky to have a guest host this week--all the way from Sweden! Katarina was so awesome to stay up late (a 9-hour time difference) to chat with us about "Monday Night Football" and "The One Where Joey Moves Out". **NOTE: Because of Skype, we had minor sound issues for the first few minutes.** We've celebrated Halloween and Christmas with the HIMYM gang, and now it's time for Ted's favorite holiday: the Super Bowl. And once again, he "Ted's Out" and stresses everyone else out too. But we get some great lines AND the Sensory Deprivator 5000--which should be mass produced! Joey is finally making money on DOOL and decided it might be time for him to move out. But not before challenging standard social norms and making the rest of us wonder about sharing soap. We had a lot of fun this week--which you can tell by the extended length. Katta was a fantastic guest host! Don't forget to check out our YouTube channel--we're making new videos asap. Next week we'll cover "The One Where Eddie Moves In" and "Lucky Penny." We can't wait! Rate and review us on iTunes and subscribe on your favorite podcast app to get the newest episode when it posts. This week, we've got a super-sized episode of the show (nearly an hour!) as I sit down with Christopher McKittrick, author of Can't Give it Away on Seventh Avenue: The Rolling Stones and New York City. Chris and I had a fascinating chat about the band and their long-term relationship with New York. All of them, whether collectively or as individuals, spent a lot more time there than you probably suspect, and McKittrick takes us along on the journey, demonstrating how the city infused itself into their lyrics, perhaps subtly at first in albums such as Goat's Head Soup, but certainly more overtly by the time they got to one of their best albums, Some Girls. Christopher took the time to run down a bunch of rumors related to the Rolling Stones, some of them started (as it turns out) by the band themselves. It's a fascinating journey for fans of both the Stones, the City, and Rock and Roll in general. If you're not already subscribing to the show, or if you're a new listener (Welcome!), here's the player/download link: And, as usual, if you're enjoying this show then please take the time to share it with someone else, and/or leave a rating on your favorite podcatcher. If you'd like to purchase your own copy of the book, click here to get it from Amazon. This link will take you through the Amazon Smile portal, so if you're a participant, the purchase will go toward your chosen charity. Click here if you want to see more of Christopher's writing (oh, I think you do). NOTE: Because this show is largely unscripted, there is no transcript for the show at this time. Sharon Dodua Otoo describes herself as “Black British mother, activist, author and editor”. She has published two novellas in English, the things i am thinking while smiling politely (2012) and Synchronicity (2014), and is the editor of the English-language book series Witnessed which focusses on the experiences of Black people in Germany. In 2016 Otoo won the prestigious Ingeborg-Bachmann prize for her German short story "Herr Gröttrupp setzt sich hin" (Herr Gröttrup Sits Down). Currently, she is working on her first novel in German which will be published in 2020.In this interview, we speak about how the experiences as a writer and editor inform each other, if some stories can only be written in a specific language, and why trying to write as non-discriminatory as possible is not self-censorship but opens up new creative pathways. Note: Because this episode was recorded in November 2018, when we refer to "this year" we speak about 2018, and "next year" means 2019.

Everything is audible, but some of the hiccups that get edited out couldn't be this time.) Andi managed to get Lise into the paranormal Canadian awesome that is Wynonna Earp and now here they are doing a talk about Season 2, which gave more of everything that is so good about the show, but also delved even more into the relationships between characters and introduced a few more—one becomes part of our Earp posse, the other proves a nice foil for Doc Holliday and the others prove to be amazing paranormal villain-types. Both Andi and Lise love how the writing of the show is so strong and weaves so many subplots into the main themes and narratives and how you miss things the first time through and when you re-watch, it’s a richer experience, in some ways, than the first time through because you then see how the threads of the show are woven together so tightly and how the character arcs evolve. Download episode here.In the tenth episode of Bloodsuckers, The Girls Necks Door answer some listener questions and respond to some comments, as well as read a poem by a fan. We discuss some news and freak out about the first chapter and cover of Breaking Dawn. The character profile this week is James, the tracker vampire who tried to kill Bella. The featured scene of the week is the meadow scene with Bella and Edward. Swooning happens, as usual, over Edward’s Nauseatingly Adorable Quote of the week. And this week it was Lauren’s instead of A Ray’s Cheesy Vampire Joke of the Week. We end the show by discussing how I’ll Run by The Cab relates to the Twilight series. Also, stay tuned at the end of the episode for a special blooper reel.
